This paper reports a spectral tau method for numerically solving multi-point boundary value problems (BVPs) of linear high-order ordinary differential equations. The construction of the shifted Jacobi tau approximation is based on conventional differentiation. This use of differentiation allows the imposition of the governing equation at the whole set of grid points and the straight forward implementation of multiple boundary conditions. Extension of the tau method for high-order multi-point BVPs with variable coefficients is treated using the shifted Jacobi Gauss–Lobatto quadrature. Shifted Jacobi collocation method is developed for solving nonlinear high-order multi-point BVPs. The performance of the proposed methods is investigated by considering several examples. Accurate results and high convergence rates are achieved.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with a generalization of a functional differential equation known as the pantograph equation which contains a linear functional argument. In this article, a new spectral collocation method is applied to solve the generalized pantograph equation with variable coefficients on a semi-infinite domain. This method is based on Jacobi rational functions and Gauss quadrature integration. The Jacobi rational-Gauss method reduces solving the generalized pantograph equation to a system of algebraic equations. Reasonable numerical results are obtained by selecting few Jacobi rational–Gauss collocation points. The proposed Jacobi rational–Gauss method is favorably compared with other methods. Numerical results demonstrate its accuracy, efficiency, and versatility on the half-line.  相似文献

A new spectral Jacobi rational-Gauss collocation (JRC) method is proposed for solving the multi-pantograph delay differential equations on the half-line. The method is based on Jacobi rational functions and Gauss quadrature integration formula. The main idea for obtaining a semi-analytical solution for these equations is essentially developed by reducing the pantograph equations with their initial conditions to systems of algebraic equations in the unknown expansion coefficients. The convergence analysis of the method is analyzed. The method possesses the spectral accuracy. Numerical results indicating the high accuracy and effectiveness of this algorithm are presented. Indeed, the present method is compared favorably with other methods.  相似文献

In this paper, we derived the shifted Jacobi operational matrix (JOM) of fractional derivatives which is applied together with spectral tau method for numerical solution of general linear multi-term fractional differential equations (FDEs). A new approach implementing shifted Jacobi operational matrix in combination with the shifted Jacobi collocation technique is introduced for the numerical solution of nonlinear multi-term FDEs. The main characteristic behind this approach is that it reduces such problems to those of solving a system of algebraic equations which greatly simplifying the problem. The proposed methods are applied for solving linear and nonlinear multi-term FDEs subject to initial or boundary conditions, and the exact solutions are obtained for some tested problems. Special attention is given to the comparison of the numerical results obtained by the new algorithm with those found by other known methods.  相似文献

In this paper, a numerical solution of fractional partial differential equations (FPDEs) for electromagnetic waves in dielectric media will be discussed. For the solution of FPDEs, we developed a numerical collocation method using an algorithm based on two‐dimensional shifted Legendre polynomials approximation, which is proposed for electromagnetic waves in dielectric media. By implementing the partial Riemann–Liouville fractional derivative operators, two‐dimensional shifted Legendre polynomials approximation and its operational matrix along with collocation method are used to convert FPDEs first into weakly singular fractional partial integro‐differential equations and then converted weakly singular fractional partial integro‐differential equations into system of algebraic equation. Some results concerning the convergence analysis and error analysis are obtained. Illustrative examples are included to demonstrate the validity and applicability of the technique. In this paper, we state and prove a new formula expressing explicitly the derivatives of shifted Chebyshev polynomials of any degree and for any fractional-order in terms of shifted Chebyshev polynomials themselves. We develop also a direct solution technique for solving the linear multi-order fractional differential equations (FDEs) with constant coefficients using a spectral tau method. The spatial approximation with its fractional-order derivatives (described in the Caputo sense) are based on shifted Chebyshev polynomials TL,n(x) with x ∈ (0, L), L > 0 and n is the polynomial degree. We presented a shifted Chebyshev collocation method with shifted Chebyshev–Gauss points used as collocation nodes for solving nonlinear multi-order fractional initial value problems. Several numerical examples are considered aiming to demonstrate the validity and applicability of the proposed techniques and to compare with the existing results.  相似文献

In this article, we introduce a new space‐time spectral collocation method for solving the one‐dimensional sine‐Gordon equation. We apply a spectral collocation method for discretizing spatial derivatives, and then use the spectral collocation method for the time integration of the resulting nonlinear second‐order system of ordinary differential equations (ODE). Our formulation has high‐order accurate in both space and time. Optimal a priori error bounds are derived in the L2‐norm for the semidiscrete formulation. Numerical experiments show that our formulation have exponential rates of convergence in both space and time. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We present a class of orthogonal functions on infinite domain based on Jacobi polynomials. These functions are generated by applying a tanh transformation to Jacobi polynomials. We construct interpolation and projection error estimates using weighted pseudo-derivatives tailored to the involved mapping. Then, using the nodes of the newly introduced tanh Jacobi functions, we develop an efficient spectral tanh Jacobi collocation method for the numerical simulation of nonlinear Schrödinger equations on the infinite domain without using artificial boundary conditions. The applicability and accuracy of the solution method are demonstrated by two numerical examples for solving the nonlinear Schrödinger equation and the nonlinear Ginzburg–Landau equation.  相似文献

A Legendre–Gauss–Lobatto spectral collocation method is introduced for the numerical solutions of a class of nonlinear delay differential equations. An efficient algorithm is designed for the single‐step scheme and applied to the multiple‐domain case. As a theoretical result, we obtain a general convergence theorem for the single‐step case. Numerical results show that the suggested algorithm enjoys high‐order accuracy both in time and in the delayed argument and can be implemented in a robust and efficient manner. We develop and analyze a spectral collocation method based on the Chebyshev–Gauss–Lobatto points for nonlinear delay differential equations with vanishing delays. We derive an a priori error estimate in the H1‐norm that is completely explicit with respect to the local time steps and the local polynomial degrees. Several numerical examples are provided to illustrate the theoretical results.  相似文献

This paper presents a shifted fractional‐order Jacobi orthogonal function (SFJF) based on the definition of the classical Jacobi polynomial. A new fractional integral operational matrix of the SFJF is presented and derived. We propose the spectral Tau method, in conjunction with the operational matrices of the Riemann–Liouville fractional integral for SFJF and derivative for Jacobi polynomial, to solve a class of time‐fractional partial differential equations with variable coefficients. In this algorithm, the approximate solution is expanded by means of both SFJFs for temporal discretization and Jacobi polynomials for spatial discretization. The proposed tau scheme, both in temporal and spatial discretizations, successfully reduced such problem into a system of algebraic equations, which is far easier to be solved. Numerical results are provided to demonstrate the high accuracy and superiority of the proposed algorithm over existing ones. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We present a high‐order spectral element method (SEM) using modal (or hierarchical) basis for modeling of some nonlinear second‐order partial differential equations in two‐dimensional spatial space. The discretization is based on the conforming spectral element technique in space and the semi‐implicit or the explicit finite difference formula in time. Unlike the nodal SEM, which is based on the Lagrange polynomials associated with the Gauss–Lobatto–Legendre or Chebyshev quadrature nodes, the Lobatto polynomials are used in this paper as modal basis. Using modal bases due to their orthogonal properties enables us to exactly obtain the elemental matrices provided that the element‐wise mapping has the constant Jacobian. The difficulty of implementation of modal approximations for nonlinear problems is treated in this paper by expanding the nonlinear terms in the weak form of differential equations in terms of the Lobatto polynomials on each element using the fast Fourier transform (FFT). Utilization of the Fourier interpolation on equidistant points in the FFT algorithm and the enough polynomial order of approximation of the nonlinear terms can lead to minimize the aliasing error. Also, this approach leads to finding numerical solution of a nonlinear differential equation through solving a system of linear algebraic equations. Numerical results for some famous nonlinear equations illustrate efficiency, stability and convergence properties of the approximation scheme, which is exponential in space and up to third‐order in time. In this study, a Hermite matrix method is presented to solve high‐order linear Fredholm integro‐differential equations with variable coefficients under the mixed conditions in terms of the Hermite polynomials. The proposed method converts the equation and its conditions to matrix equations, which correspond to a system of linear algebraic equations with unknown Hermite coefficients, by means of collocation points on a finite interval. Then, by solving the matrix equation, the Hermite coefficients and the polynomial approach are obtained. Also, examples that illustrate the pertinent features of the method are presented; the accuracy of the solutions and the error analysis are performed. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In the paper, we apply the generalized polynomial chaos expansion and spectral methods to the Burgers equation with a random perturbation on its left boundary condition. Firstly, the stochastic Galerkin method combined with the Legendre–Galerkin Chebyshev collocation scheme is adopted, which means that the original equation is transformed to the deterministic nonlinear equations by the stochastic Galerkin method and the Legendre–Galerkin Chebyshev collocation scheme is used to deal with the resulting nonlinear equations. Secondly, the stochastic Legendre–Galerkin Chebyshev collocation scheme is developed for solving the stochastic Burgers equation; that is, the stochastic Legendre–Galerkin method is used to discrete the random variable meanwhile the nonlinear term is interpolated through the Chebyshev–Gauss points. Then a set of deterministic linear equations can be obtained, which is in contrast to the other existing methods for the stochastic Burgers equation. The mean square convergence of the former method is analyzed. Numerical experiments are performed to show the effectiveness of our two methods. Both methods provide alternative approaches to deal with the stochastic differential equations with nonlinear terms.  相似文献

A spectral shifted Legendre Gauss–Lobatto collocation method is developed and analyzed to solve numerically one-dimensional two-sided space fractional Boussinesq (SFB) equation with non-classical boundary conditions. The method depends basically on the fact that an expansion in a series of shifted Legendre polynomials \({P_{L,n}(x), \ x\in[0,L]}\) is assumed, for the function and its space-fractional derivatives occurring in the two-sided SFB equation. The Legendre–Gauss–Lobatto quadrature rule is established to treat the non-local conservation conditions, and then the problem with its non-local conservation conditions is reduced to a system of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) in time. Thereby, the expansion coefficients are then determined by reducing the two-sided SFB with its boundary and initial conditions to a system of ODEs for these coefficients. This system may be solved numerically in a step-by-step manner by using implicit Runge–Kutta method of order four. Numerical results indicating the high accuracy and effectiveness of this algorithm are presented.  相似文献

The critical delays of a delay‐differential equation can be computed by solving a nonlinear two‐parameter eigenvalue problem. The solution of this two‐parameter problem can be translated to solving a quadratic eigenvalue problem of squared dimension. We present a structure preserving QR‐type method for solving such quadratic eigenvalue problem that only computes real‐valued critical delays; that is, complex critical delays, which have no physical meaning, are discarded. For large‐scale problems, we propose new correction equations for a Newton‐type or Jacobi–Davidson style method, which also forces real‐valued critical delays. We present three different equations: one real‐valued equation using a direct linear system solver, one complex valued equation using a direct linear system solver, and one Jacobi–Davidson style correction equation that is suitable for an iterative linear system solver. We show numerical examples for large‐scale problems arising from PDEs. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this work, we propose an adaptive spectral element algorithm for solving non-linear optimal control problems. The method employs orthogonal collocation at the shifted Gegenbauer–Gauss points combined with very accurate and stable numerical quadratures to fully discretize the multiple-phase integral form of the optimal control problem. The proposed algorithm relies on exploiting the underlying smoothness properties of the solutions for computing approximate solutions efficiently. In particular, the method brackets discontinuities and ‘points of nonsmoothness’ through a novel local adaptive algorithm, which achieves a desired accuracy on the discrete dynamical system equations by adjusting both the mesh size and the degree of the approximating polynomials. A rigorous error analysis of the developed numerical quadratures is presented. Finally, the efficiency of the proposed method is demonstrated on three test examples from the open literature.  相似文献
