In the classic blockmodel formulation, a social network among members of a population with n actors and k relations (types of tie) is arrayed as k n X n matrices. Though this is a three‐dimensional data structure, it is typically reduced to a two‐way analysis. In this paper, a three‐way procedure for analyzing multigraph data is developed. Specifically, in addition to applying the rule of structural equivalence to collapse actors, it is also applied to the relations (the third dimension), and structurally equivalent sets of relations are collapsed. The result is a three‐dimensional blockmodel (image) of social structure that is a more parsimonious representation of social structure than the classic two‐dimensional blockmodel images. The three‐dimensional approach is illustrated by application to three case studies: Homan's Bank Wiring Room, Sampson's monastery, and a local economy of hospital services. The structural equivalence approach to relations is further explored by applying it to the individual‐level Liking and Antagonism relations and their compounds (of length four or less) in the Bank Wiring Room. This application demonstrates that the structural equivalence approach can be used to identify equality equations for primitive and compound relations.  相似文献

We investigate the stabilizing effect of convection in three‐dimensional incompressible Euler and Navier‐Stokes equations. The convection term is the main source of nonlinearity for these equations. It is often considered destabilizing although it conserves energy due to the incompressibility condition. In this paper, we show that the convection term together with the incompressibility condition actually has a surprising stabilizing effect. We demonstrate this by constructing a new three‐dimensional model that is derived for axisymmetric flows with swirl using a set of new variables. This model preserves almost all the properties of the full three‐dimensional Euler or Navier‐Stokes equations except for the convection term, which is neglected in our model. If we added the convection term back to our model, we would recover the full Navier‐Stokes equations. We will present numerical evidence that seems to support that the three‐dimensional model may develop a potential finite time singularity. We will also analyze the mechanism that leads to these singular events in the new three‐dimensional model and how the convection term in the full Euler and Navier‐Stokes equations destroys such a mechanism, thus preventing the singularity from forming in a finite time. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the existence of time periodic solutions of the 3-D viscous primitive equations of large-scale dry atmosphere. We used the Galerkin method. Firstly, by Leray-Schauder fixed point theorem, we prove the existence of approximate solutions of the primitive equations, then we show the convergence of the approximate solutions, and we also get the uniqueness to the primitive equations.  相似文献

We investigate the stability of two‐dimensional periodic solutions to magnetohydrodynamics equations in the class of three‐dimensional periodic solutions. We show the existence of global, strong three‐dimensional solutions to magnetohydrodynamics equations, which are close to two‐dimensional solutions. This paper studies a special case of graded central extensions of three dimen-sional Artin-Schelter regular algebras, see [9, §3]. The algebras are homoge-nizations of two classes of three dimensional skew polynomial algebras. We refer to these algebras as Type I and Type II algebras. We describe the non-commutative projective geometry and compute the finite dimensional simple modules for the homogenization of Type I algebras in the case that α is not a primitive root of unity. In this case, all finite dimensional simple modules are quotients of line modules that are homogenizations of Verma modules.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the dynamic stability of the three‐dimensional axisymmetric Navier‐Stokes Equations with swirl. To this purpose, we propose a new one‐dimensional model that approximates the Navier‐Stokes equations along the symmetry axis. An important property of this one‐dimensional model is that one can construct from its solutions a family of exact solutions of the three‐dimensionaFinal Navier‐Stokes equations. The nonlinear structure of the one‐dimensional model has some very interesting properties. On one hand, it can lead to tremendous dynamic growth of the solution within a short time. On the other hand, it has a surprising dynamic depletion mechanism that prevents the solution from blowing up in finite time. By exploiting this special nonlinear structure, we prove the global regularity of the three‐dimensional Navier‐Stokes equations for a family of initial data, whose solutions can lead to large dynamic growth, but yet have global smooth solutions. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the initial boundary value problem of the three‐dimensional primitive equations for planetary oceanic and atmospheric dynamics with only horizontal eddy viscosity in the horizontal momentum equations and only horizontal diffusion in the temperature equation. Global well‐posedness of the strong solution is established for any H2 initial data. An N‐dimensional logarithmic Sobolev embedding inequality, which bounds the L‐norm in terms of the Lq‐norms up to a logarithm of the Lp‐norm for p > N of the first‐order derivatives, and a system version of the classic Grönwall inequality are exploited to establish the required a~priori H2 estimates for global regularity.© 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

Two models based on the hydrostatic primitive equations are proposed. The first model is the primitive equations with partial viscosity only, and is oriented towards large-scale wave structures in the ocean and atmosphere. The second model is the viscous primitive equations with spectral eddy viscosity, and is oriented towards turbulent geophysical flows. For both models, the existence and uniqueness of global strong solutions are established. For the second model, the convergence of the solutions to the solutions of the classical primitive equations as eddy viscosity parameters tend to zero is also established.  相似文献

本文利用原始变量有限元法求解混合边界条件下的三维定常旋转Navier-Stokes方程,证明了离散问题解的存在唯一性,得到了有限元解的最优误差估计.给出了求解原始变量有限元逼近解的简单迭代算法,并证明了算法的收敛性.针对三维情况下计算资源的限制,采用压缩的行存储格式存储刚度矩阵的非零元素,并利用不完全的LU分解作预处理的GMRES方法求解线性方程组.最后分析了简单迭代和牛顿迭代的优劣对比,数值算例表明在同样精度下简单迭代更节约计算时间.  相似文献

This paper is dedicated to establishing the global regularity for the two dimensional magnetohydrodynamic equations with fractional anisotropic dissipation when the fractional powers are restricted to some certain ranges. In addition, the global regularity results for the two dimensional magnetohydrodynamic equations with partial dissipation are also obtained. Consequently, these results bring us more closer to the resolution of the global regularity problem on the two dimensional magnetohydrodynamic equations with standard Laplacian magnetic diffusion.  相似文献

The possible high dimensional integrable models are studied in three different aspects: (i) starting from a strong symmetry operator of a known (1+1) -dimensional integrable model, we can construct a type of (n+1)-dimensional integrable models, high dimensional breaking soliton equations; (ii) from every concrete realization of the generalized Virasoro algebra, we can get many high dimensional integrable models in the meaning that the models possess generalized Virasoro symmetry algebra; (iii) starting from the Schwartz equations which possess conformal invariance, we can also get various high dimensional integrable models in the meaning that they possess Painlevé property. We present the improved three‐dimensional axially symmetric incompressible magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) equations with nonzero swirl. We consider three kinds of smooth axially symmetric particular solutions to the MHD equations: (1) uθ=0,Br=Bz=0, (2) Br=Bz=0, and (3) Bθ=0. In particular, we derive new regularity criteria for these three kinds of the three‐dimensional axially symmetric smooth solutions to the MHD equations. Our results also reveal some interesting dynamic behavior of the interaction by the angular vorticity field ωθ and the angular current density field jθ. We study the equations describing the motion of a thermal non-equilibrium gas with one non-equilibriummode. In three space dimensions it is a hyperbolic system of six equations with a relaxation term. The dissipation mechanism induced by the relaxation is weak in the sense that Shizuta-Kawashima criterion is violated. However, there is a significant difference between one dimensional and three dimensional flows in how the criterion is violated. As a consequence, the velocity components in their solutionsbehave differentlywhile thermal dynamic variables share common properties.  相似文献
