In this paper we develop and study a new stabilized finite volume method for the two-dimensional Stokes equations. This method is based on a local Gauss integration technique and the conforming elements of the lowest-equal order pair (i.e., the P 1P 1 pair). After a relationship between this method and a stabilized finite element method is established, an error estimate of optimal order in the H 1-norm for velocity and an estimate in the L 2-norm for pressure are obtained. An optimal error estimate in the L 2-norm for the velocity is derived under an additional assumption on the body force. Arnold conjecture states (possibly under additional conditions) that the number of intersection section points ofL and φ (L) can be estimated by #{Lϒφ (L)}≥ cuplength +1. We provide lower estimates on the minimal number of generators of the profinite completion of free products of finite groups. In particular, we show that if C 1, ..., C n are finite cyclic groups then there exists a finite group G which is generated by isomorphic copies of C 1, ..., C n and the minimal number of generators of G is n. A frame is a fmaily {f i } i=1 of elements in a Hilbert space with the property that every element in can be written as a (infinite) linear combination of the frame elements. Frame theory describes how one can choose the corresponding coefficients, which are called frame coefficients. From the mathematical point of view this is gratifying, but for applications it is a problem that the calculation requires inversion of an operator on . The projection method is introduced in order to avoid this problem. The basic idea is to consider finite subfamilies {f i } i=1 n of the frame and the orthogonal projection Pn onto its span. For has a representation as a linear combination of fi, i=1,2,..., n and the corresponding coefficients can be calculated using finite dimensional methods. We find conditions implying that those coefficients converge to the correct frame coefficients as n→∞, in which case we have avoided the inversion problem. In the same spirit we approximate the solution to a moment problem. It turns out, that the class of “well-behaving frames” are identical for the two problems we consider. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for the uniformly non-l n (1) property of Musielak-Orlicz sequence spacesl Φ generated by a sequence Φ=(ϕn:n⩾l) of finite Orlicz functions such that for eachn∈ℕ. As a result, forn 0⩾2, there exist spacesl Φ which are only uniformly non-l n (1) fornn 0. Moreover we obtain a characterization of uniformly non-l n (1) and reflexive Orlicz sequence spaces over a wide class of purely atomic measures and of uniformly non-l n (1) Nakano sequence spaces. It is proved that if the probabilityP is normalised Lebesgue measure on one of thel p n balls in R n , then for any sequencet 1 , t 2 , …, t n of positive numbers, the coordinate slabs {|x i |≤t i } are subindependent, namely, . A consequence of this result is that the proportion of the volume of thel 1 n ball which is inside the cube[−1, t] n is less than or equal tof n (t)=(1−(1−t) n ) n . It turns out that this estimate is remarkably accurate over most of the range of values oft. A reverse inequality, demonstrating this, is the second major result of the article. We explore the connection between this problem and a Wiener-Tauberian type theorem for theM(n) action onL q(ℝn) for various values ofq. We also take up the question of whenP E is injective in caseE is of finite, positive measure, but is not necessarily a bounded set. In this paper we give an analytic proof of the identity A 5,3,3(n)=B 5,3,30(n), where A 5,3,3(n) counts the number of partitions of n subject to certain restrictions on their parts, and B 5,3,30(n) counts the number of partitions of n subject to certain other restrictions on their parts, both too long to be stated in the abstract. Our proof establishes actually a refinement of that partition identity. The original identity was first discovered by the first author jointly with M. Ruby Salestina and S.R. Sudarshan in [Proceedings of the International Conference on Analytic Number Theory with Special Emphasis on L-functions, Ramanujan Math. Soc., Mysore, 2005, pp. 57–70], where it was also given a combinatorial proof, thus answering a question of Andrews. In this note the AK invariant of a surface in ℂ3 which is given byx n y=P(z) wheren>1 and deg(P)=d>1 is computed. Then this information is used to find the group of automorphisms of this surface and the isomorphism classes of such surfaces. As a consequence we show that ifR n is covered bym sets withm<(1+o(1)) (1.2) n then there is one set within which all the distances are realised. Let B(k,0,n) denote the group with k generators which is free in the group variety defined by the identity x n =1. Let B slo (k,1,n) denote the semilattice-ordered semigroup with k generators which is free in the semilattice-ordered semigroup variety defined by the identity x n =x. We prove a generalization of the Green-Rees theorem: B slo (k,1,n) is finite for all k≥1 if and only if B(k,0,n−1) is finite for all k≥1. We find a formula for card(B slo (1,1,n)). We present the construction for a u-product G1 ○ G2 of two u-groups G1 and G2, and prove that G1 ○ G2 is also a u-group and that every u-group, which contains G1 and G2 as subgroups and is generated by these, is a homomorphic image of G1 ○ G2. It is stated that if G is a u-group then the coordinate group of an affine space Gn is equal to G ○ Fn, where Fn is a free metabelian group of rank n. Lower bounds are obtained for thegl constants and hence also for the unconditional basis constants of subspaces of finite dimensional Banach spaces. Sharp results are obtained for subspaces ofl n , while in the general case thegl constants of “random large” subspaces are related to the distance of “random large” subspaces to Euclidean spaces. In addition, a new isometric characterization ofl n is given, some new information is obtained concerningp-absolutely summing operators, and it is proved that every Banach space of dimensionn contains a subspace whose projection constant is of ordern 1/2. Minimal, rigid foliations by curves on ℂℙ n   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
We prove the existence of minimal and rigid singular holomorphic foliations by curves on the projective space ℂℙ n for every dimension n≥2 and every degree d≥2. Precisely, we construct a foliation ℱ which is induced by a homogeneous vector field of degree d, has a finite singular set and all the regular leaves are dense in the whole of ℂℙ n . Moreover, ℱ satisfies many additional properties expected from chaotic dynamics and is rigid in the following sense: if ℱ is conjugate to another holomorphic foliation by a homeomorphism sufficiently close to the identity, then these foliations are also conjugate by a projective transformation. Finally, all these properties are persistent for small perturbations of ℱ.?This is done by considering pseudo-groups generated on the unit ball 𝔹 n ⊆ℂ n by small perturbations of elements in Diff(ℂ n ,0). Under open conditions on the generators, we prove the existence of many pseudo-flows in their closure (for the C 0-topology) acting transitively on the ball. Dynamical features as minimality, ergodicity, positive entropy and rigidity may easily be derived from this approach. Finally, some of these pseudo-groups are realized in the transverse dynamics of polynomial vector fields in ℂℙ n . Certain p-local orders in n-dimensional division algebras over the rational numbers occur as endomorphism rings of torsion-free abelian groups of rank n if and only if an associated finite poset P has a strict faithful representation of dimension less than |P| over the field with p elements. Let F n be the free group of rank n, and let Aut+(F n ) be its special automorphism group. For an epimorphism π : F n G of the free group F n onto a finite group G we call the standard congruence subgroup of Aut+(F n ) associated to G and π. In the case n = 2 we fully describe the abelianization of Γ+(G, π) for finite abelian groups G. Moreover, we show that if G is a finite non-perfect group, then Γ+(G, π) ≤ Aut+(F 2) has infinite abelianization.  相似文献
