We investigate some subtle and interesting phenomena in the duality theory of operator spaces and operator algebras, and give several applications of the surprising fact that certain maps are always weak*-continuous on dual spaces. In particular, if X is a subspace of a C*-algebra A, and if aA satisfies aXX, then we show that the function x?ax on X is automatically weak* continuous if either (a) X is a dual operator space, or (b) a*XX and X is a dual Banach space. These results hinge on a generalization to Banach modules of Tomiyama's famous theorem on contractive projections onto a C*-subalgebra. Applications include a new characterization of the σ-weakly closed (possibly nonunital and nonselfadjoint) operator algebras, and a generalization of the theory of W*-modules to the framework of modules over such algebras. We also give a Banach module characterization of σ-weakly closed spaces of operators which are invariant under the action of a von Neumann algebra.  相似文献

An operatorT on a complex Banach spaceX is callednormal if there exists an operatorS such that (1/2)(T+S) and (1/2i)(T?S) are hermitian, andTS=ST. We show thatT: X→X is normal iffT′: X » X is normal. Using a generalization of the principle of local reflexivity this result enables us to prove that multipliers on complexL 1-predual spaces are always normal.  相似文献

It is well known that every compactification of a completely regular space X can be generated, via a Tychonoff-type embedding, by some suitably chosen subset of C1(X). Different subsets may give rise to equivalent compactifications, and we are concerned with the problem of finding all subsets of C1(X) which yield a given compactification αX. The problem is easier if generalized: we say that a subset F of C1(X) “determines” the compactification αX if αX is the smallest compactification to which every element of F extends, and give a simple necessary and sufficient condition for F to determine a given compactification αX. A number of sufficient conditions for two sets to determine the same compactification are given, and the relation between sets which determine αX and those which generate αX (via an embedding) is considered. Generally, a much smaller set of functions is required to determine αX than to generate it; the number needed to determine αX is never more than the weight of αX?X, while the number required to generate it is, if infinite, equal to the weight of αX.  相似文献

We show that for every Borel-measurable mapping Δ: [ω]ωR there exists A ∈ [ω]ω and there exists a continuous mapping Γ: [A]ω → [A]?ω with Γ(X) ? X such that for all X, Y ∈ [A]ω it follows that Δ(X) = Δ(Y) if Γ(X) = Γ(Y). In a sense, this is generalization of the Erdös-Rado canonization theorem  相似文献

Given two Banach function spaces X and Y related to a measure μ, the Y-dual space XY of X is defined as the space of the multipliers from X to Y. The space XY is a generalization of the classical Köthe dual space of X, which is obtained by taking Y = Lt(μ). Under minimal conditions, we can consider the Y-bidual space XYY of X (i.e. the Y-dual of XY). As in the classical case, the containment X ⊂ XYY always holds. We give conditions guaranteeing that X coincides with XYY, in which case X is said to be Y-perfect. We also study when X is isometrically embedded in XYY. Properties involving p-convexity, p-concavity and the order of X and Y, will have a special relevance.  相似文献

We consider double and (possibly) branched coverings π:XX between real algebraic curves where X is hyperelliptic. We are interested in the topology of such coverings and also in describing them in terms of algebraic equations. In this article we completely solve these two problems. We first analyse the topological features and ramification data of such coverings. Second, for each isomorphism class of these coverings we then describe a representative, with defining polynomial equations for X and for X, a formula for the involution that generates the covering transformation group, and a rational formula for the covering projection π:XX.  相似文献

We propose a construction of full-rank q-ary 1-perfect codes. This is a generalization of the construction of full-rank binary 1-perfect codes by Etzion and Vardy (1994). The properties of the i-components of q-ary Hamming codes are investigated, and the construction of full-rank q-ary 1-perfect codes is based on these properties. The switching construction of 1-perfect codes is generalized to the q-ary case. We propose a generalization of the notion of an i-component of a 1-perfect code and introduce the concept of an (i, σ)-component of a q-ary 1-perfect code. We also present a generalization of the Lindström–Schönheim construction of q-ary 1-perfect codes and provide a lower bound for the number of pairwise distinct q-ary 1-perfect codes of length n.  相似文献

Suppose Γ is a simple closed C2 curve in the complex plane and let W1, W2 be the components of the complement of Γ. Let X be a compact plane set. Necessary and sufficient conditions are given that any two points x1?XW1, and x2?XW2 belong to different Gleason parts for the algebra R(X). We also give an answer to the question: How thin can a nontrivial part for R(X) be ?  相似文献

We study properties of binary codes with parameters close to the parameters of 1-perfect codes. An arbitrary binary (n?=?2 m ? 3, 2 n-m-1, 4) code C, i.e., a code with parameters of a triply-shortened extended Hamming code, is a cell of an equitable partition of the n-cube into six cells. An arbitrary binary (n?=?2 m ? 4, 2 n-m , 3) code D, i.e., a code with parameters of a triply-shortened Hamming code, is a cell of an equitable family (but not a partition) with six cells. As a corollary, the codes C and D are completely semiregular; i.e., the weight distribution of such codes depends only on the minimal and maximal codeword weights and the code parameters. Moreover, if D is self-complementary, then it is completely regular. As an intermediate result, we prove, in terms of distance distributions, a general criterion for a partition of the vertices of a graph (from rather general class of graphs, including the distance-regular graphs) to be equitable.  相似文献

Abstract. How to verify that a given fuzzy set A∈F(X ) is a fuzzy code? In this paper, an al-gorithm of test has been introduced and studied with the example of test. The measure notionfor a fuzzy code and a precise formulation of fuzzy codes and words have been discussed.  相似文献

Given a Markovian Brownian martingale Z, we build a process X which is a martingale in its own filtration and satisfies X1=Z1. We call X a dynamic bridge, because its terminal value Z1 is not known in advance. We compute its semimartingale decomposition explicitly under both its own filtration FX and the filtration FX,Z jointly generated by X and Z. Our construction is heavily based on parabolic partial differential equations and filtering techniques. As an application, we explicitly solve an equilibrium model with insider trading that can be viewed as a non-Gaussian generalization of the model of Back and Pedersen (1998) [3], where the insider’s additional information evolves over time.  相似文献

For a metric space X, we study the space D(X) of bounded functions on X whose pointwise Lipschitz constant is uniformly bounded. D(X) is compared with the space LIP(X) of bounded Lipschitz functions on X, in terms of different properties regarding the geometry of X. We also obtain a Banach-Stone theorem in this context. In the case of a metric measure space, we also compare D(X) with the Newtonian-Sobolev space N1,∞(X). In particular, if X supports a doubling measure and satisfies a local Poincaré inequality, we obtain that D(X)=N1,∞(X).  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to discuss the simpleness of zeros of Stokes multipliers associated with the differential equation -Φ(X)+W(X)Φ(X)=0, where W(X)=Xm+a1Xm-1+?+am is a real monic polynomial. We show that, under a suitable hypothesis on the coefficients ak, all the zeros of the Stokes multipliers are simple.  相似文献

For a graph property X, let Xn be the number of graphs with vertex set {1,…,n} having property X, also known as the speed of X. A property X is called factorial if X is hereditary (i.e. closed under taking induced subgraphs) and nc1nXnnc2n for some constants c1 and c2. Hereditary properties with speed slower than factorial are surprisingly well structured. The situation with factorial properties is more complicated and less explored. Only the properties with speeds up to the Bell number are well studied and well behaved. To better understand the behavior of factorial properties with faster speeds we introduce a structural tool called locally bounded coverings and show that a variety of graph properties can be described by means of this tool.  相似文献

A classification theory is developed for pairs of simple closed curves (A,B) in the sphere S2, assuming that AB has finitely many components. Such a pair of simple closed curves is called an SCC-pair, and two SCC-pairs (A,B) and (A,B) are equivalent if there is a homeomorphism from S2 to itself sending A to A and B to B. The simple cases where A and B coincide or A and B are disjoint are easily handled. The component code is defined to provide a classification of all of the other possibilities. The component code is not uniquely determined for a given SCC-pair, but it is straightforward that it is an invariant; i.e., that if (A,B) and (A,B) are equivalent and C is a component code for (A,B), then C is a component code for (A,B) as well. It is proved that the component code is a classifying invariant in the sense that if two SCC-pairs have a component code in common, then the SCC-pairs are equivalent. Furthermore code transformations on component codes are defined so that if one component code is known for a particular SCC-pair, then all other component codes for the SCC-pair can be determined via code transformations. This provides a notion of equivalence for component codes; specifically, two component codes are equivalent if there is a code transformation mapping one to the other. The main result of the paper asserts that if C and C are component codes for SCC-pairs (A,B) and (A,B), respectively, then (A,B) and (A,B) are equivalent if and only if C and C are equivalent. Finally, a generalization of the Schoenflies theorem to SCC-pairs is presented.  相似文献

LetX be a Banach space andX * its dual space. ForT a densely defined closed linear operator, we denote byT * its adjoint. we show that ifx∈X andx * ∈X * have disjoint local spectrum with empty interior, therefore (x,x *)=0. In the present paper we consider the service system MX/G/∞ characterized by an infinite number of servers anda general service time distribution. The customers arrive at the system in groups of size X, which is a random variable, the time between group arrivals being exponentially distributed. Using simple probability arguments, we obtain probability generating functions (p.g.f.'s) of the number of busy servers at time t and the number that depart by time t. Several other properties of these random variables are also discussed.  相似文献

Let B be a closed linear transformation of the Banach space X into the Banach space Y and let A be a bounded linear transformation of Y into the Banach space Z. A simple condition is shown to be necessary and sufficient for AB to have closed range. Provided B is relatively regular there is a simple necessary and sufficient condition for AB to be relatively regular. Provided B+ and A+ are pseudoinverses for B and A, respectively, the condition that B+A+ is a pseudoinverse for AB is completely characterized.  相似文献

Based on a new reformulation of the bounded approximation property, we develop a unified approach to the lifting of bounded approximation properties from a Banach space X to its dual X*. This encompasses cases when X has the unique extension property or X is extendably locally reflexive. In particular, it is shown that the unique extension property of X permits to lift the metric A-approximation property from X to X*, for any operator ideal A, and that there exists a Banach space X such that X,X**,… are extendably locally reflexive, but X*,X***,… are not.  相似文献

The set of continuous-from-the-right step functions from the half-open unit interval[0, 1[into a topological space X is denoted by X1. Elsewhere a topology has been defined which makes X1 a contractible, locally contractible space with the subspace of constant functions being homeomorphic to X. When X has a bounded metric ?, the topology of X1 may be described by the metric d>(f,g)=01ρ(f(t),g(t))dt.It is shown here that if X is separable, then X1 is separable and if X satisfies the first (or second) axiom of countability, then X1 satisfies it too. In contrast, it is shown that properties such as normality do not extend from X to X1. This follows from the main result: X1 is homeomorphic to its square, and thus contains a copy of X×X (which is closed when X is Hausdorff). The final theorem states that if X has at least two points then X1 is not complete metrizable.  相似文献
