Cauchy's Problem for Degenerate Quasilinear Hyperbolic Equations with Measures as Initial Values

The aim of this paper is to discuss the Cauchy problem for degenerate quasilinear hyperbolic equations of the form \frac{∂u}{∂t} + \frac{∂u^m}{∂x} = -u^p, m > 1, p > 0 with measures as initial conditions. The existence and uniqueness of solutions are obtained. In particular, we prove the following results: (1) 0 < p < 1 is a necessary and sufficient condition for the above equations to have extinction property; (2) 0 < p < m is a necessary and sufficient condition for the above equations to have localization property of the propagation of perturbations.

A Dimensional Splitting Method for Quasilinear Hyperbolic Equations with Variable Coefficients

A numerical method is presented for the variable coefficient, nonlinear hyperbolic equation u _t + _i=1 ^d V _i(x, t)f _i(u) _{x i} = 0 in arbitrary space dimension for bounded velocities that are Lipschitz continuous in the x variable. The method is based on dimensional splitting and uses a recent front tracking method to solve the resulting one-dimensional non-conservative equations. The method is unconditionally stable, and it produces a subsequence that converges to the entropy solution as the discretization of time and space tends to zero. Four numerical examples are presented; numerical error mechanisms are illustrated for two linear equations, the efficiency of the method compared with a high-resolution TVD method is discussed for a nonlinear problem, and finally, applications to reservoir simulation are presented.     

Stability of Solution of a Class of Quasilinear Elliptic Equations

In this paper, using capacity theory and extension theorem of Lipschitz functions we first discuss the uniqueness of weak solution of nonhomogeneous quasilinear elliptic equationsin space W(θ,p)(Ω), which is bigger than W1,p(Ω). Next, using revise reverse Holder inequality we prove that if ωc is uniformly p-think, then there exists a neighborhood U of p, such that for all t ∈U, the weak solutions of equation corresponding t are bounded uniformly. Finally, we get the stability of weak solutions on exponent p.     

On Quasilinear Generalized Canonical Hyperbolic Systems of First-Order Partial Differential Equations

By using the method of characteristics, we prove theorems on continuous solvability and on properties of solutions of the mixed Cauchy boundary-value problem for the generalized canonical hyperbolic system of quasilinear partial differential equations of the first order in a general connected domain in (m+ 1)-dimensions.
