In this paper, we introduce a Hopf algebra, developed by the author and André Henriques, which is usable in the computation of the -homology of a space. As an application, we compute the -homology of in a manner analogous to Mahowald and Milgram's computation of the -homology .

Let be the Hochschild complex of cochains on and let be the space of multivector fields on . In this paper we prove that given any -structure (i.e. Gerstenhaber algebra up to homotopy structure) on , and any -morphism (i.e. morphism of a commutative, associative algebra up to homotopy) between and , there exists a -morphism between and that restricts to . We also show that any -morphism (i.e. morphism of a Lie algebra up to homotopy), in particular the one constructed by Kontsevich, can be deformed into a -morphism, using Tamarkin's method for any -structure on . We also show that any two of such -morphisms are homotopic.

In this paper we show the following sharp result: For any positive integers and , if there is such that the fractional part of is , then there are at least such subsets of . This extends an earlier result of M. Z. Zhang and an extension by Z. W. Sun. Also, we generalize the above result to -covers of the integral ring of any algebraic number field with a power integral basis.

In this paper, we present a new class of strongly singular maximal abelian subalgebras living inside the -folded tensor product of the free group factor with itself (). The notions of strongly singular masas in type factors and that of asymptotic homomorphism were introduced by A. Sinclair and R. Smith. One of their first examples was the Laplacian subalgebra of the free group factor, generated by the sum of words of length 1 in . This subalgebra was known to be a singular masa. Using the results of A. Sinclair and R. Smith, we show that the unique trace-preserving conditional expectation onto the Laplacian subalgebra of is an asymptotic homomorphism, and hence the Laplacian subalgebra is a strongly singular masa for every .

We prove that for any real expansive matrix , there exists a bounded -dilation wavelet set in the frequency domain (the inverse Fourier transform of whose characteristic function is a band-limited single wavelet in the time domain ). Moreover these wavelet sets can approximate a cube in arbitrarily. This result improves Dai, Larson and Speegle's result about the existence of (basically unbounded) wavelet sets for real expansive matrices.

We prove a Pohozaev type identity for non-linear eigenvalue equations of the Dirac operator on Riemannian spin manifolds with boundary. As an application, we obtain that the mean curvature of a conformal immersion satisfies where is a conformal vector field on and where the integration is carried out with respect to the Euclidean volume measure of the image. This identity is analogous to the Kazdan-Warner obstruction that appears in the problem of prescribing the scalar curvature on inside the standard conformal class.

We give an example of a subgroup of which is a strictly ascending HNN extension of a non-abelian finitely generated free group . In particular, we exhibit a free group in of rank which is conjugate to a proper subgroup of itself. This answers positively a question of Drutu and Sapir (2005). The main ingredient in our construction is a specific finite volume (non-compact) hyperbolic 3-manifold which is a surface bundle over the circle. In particular, most of comes from the fundamental group of a surface fiber. A key feature of is that there is an element of in with an eigenvalue which is the square root of a rational integer. We also use the Bass-Serre tree of a field with a discrete valuation to show that the group we construct is actually free.

A quadratic form over is said to be regular if globally represents all polynomials that are represented by the genus of . In this paper, we study definite regular quadratic forms over . It is shown that for a fixed , there are only finitely many equivalence classes of regular definite primitive quadratic forms over , regardless of the number of variables. Characterizations of those which are universal are also given.
