We consider a variation of a classical Turán-type extremal problem (F. Chung, R. Graham, Erd s on Graphs: His Legacy of Unsolved Problems, AK Peters Ltd., Wellesley, 1998, Chapter 3) as follows: Determine the smallest even integer σ(Kr,s,n) such that every n-term graphic sequence π=(d1,d2,…,dn) with term sum σ(π)=d1+d2++dnσ(Kr,s,n) is potentially Kr,s-graphic, where Kr,s is a r×s complete bipartite graph, i.e., π has a realization G containing Kr,s as its subgraph. In this paper, we first give sufficient conditions for a graphic sequence being potentially Kr,s-graphic, and then we determine σ(Kr,r,n) for r=3,4.  相似文献

For a 1-dependent stationary sequence {Xn} we first show that if u satisfies p1=p1(u)=P(X1>u)0.025 and n>3 is such that 88np131, then
P{max(X1,…,Xn)u}=ν·μn+O{p13(88n(1+124np13)+561)}, n>3,
where
ν=1−p2+2p3−3p4+p12+6p22−6p1p2,μ=(1+p1p2+p3p4+2p12+3p22−5p1p2)−1
with
pk=pk(u)=P{min(X1,…,Xk)>u}, k1
and
|O(x)||x|.
From this result we deduce, for a stationary T-dependent process with a.s. continuous path {Ys}, a similar, in terms of P{max0skTYs<u}, k=1,2 formula for P{max0stYsu}, t>3T and apply this formula to the process Ys=W(s+1)−W(s), s0, where {W(s)} is the Wiener process. We then obtain numerical estimations of the above probabilities.  相似文献

This paper presents in the first section the exact evaluation of three single integrals relating to the dielectric behavior of two-dimensional electron plasmas. In the second section we present a procedure for reducing 3d-dimensional integrals of the form: ∫∫∫dqdpdkD(q)(p+k+q)ƒ(p)[1−ƒ(p+q)]ƒ(k)[1−ƒ(k+q)], where the vectors lie in d-dimensional space and ƒ denotes the Fermi function, to tractable form. The second-order exchange integral for a d-dimensional electron gas is taken as an example and is evaluated in closed form as a function of d.  相似文献

We consider a sequence of integer-valued random variables Xn, n 1, representing a special Markov process with transition probability λn, l, satisfying Pn, l = (1 − λn, l) Pn−1, l + λn, l−1 Pn−1, l−1. Whenever the transition probability is given by λn, l = qn + βl + γ and λn, l = 1 − qnl, we can find closed forms for the distribution and the moments of the corresponding random variables, showing that they involve functions such as the q-binomial coefficients and the q-Stirling numbers. In general, it turns out that the q-notation, up to now mainly used in the theory of q-hypergeometrical series, represents a powerful tool to deal with these kinds of problems. In this context we speak therefore about q-distributions. Finally, we present some possible, mainly graph theoretical interpretations of these random variables for special choices of , β and γ.  相似文献

The usual construction of (v,q+1,1)−BIBD's from vector spaces over GF(q) is generalized to the class of near vector spaces over GF(q). It is shown that every (v,q+1,1)−BIBD can be constructed from a near vector space over GF(q). Some corollaries are: Given a (v1,q+1,1)−BIBD P1,B1 and a (v2,q+1,1)−BIBD P2,B2, there is a ((q−1)v1v2+v1+v2,q+1,1)−BIBD P3,B3 containing P1,B1 and P2,B2 as disjoint subdesigns. If there is a (v,q+1,1)−BIBD then there is a ((q−1)v+1,q,1)−BIBD. Every finite partial (v,q,1)−BIBD can be embedded in a finite (v′,q+1,1)−BIBD.  相似文献

In a finite geometry of order q2 we define a (qmqr)-affine cap to be a set of cardinality qm which is a disjoint union ot qm affine subgeometrics AG(r,q). such that no three points are coliinear unless contained in the same AG(r,q).

Given a PG(n,q2), where n = 2t + 1 or 2t + 2, and an n + 1 by n + 1 Hermitian matrix H over Gh(q2) with minimal polynomial (x - λ)n + 1. we show that H induces a partition of the AG(n, q2) obtained by deleting a distinguished hyperplane from the PG, into (qn,ql + 1)-affine caps; these caps can be viewed as the "large points" of an AG (n,q) with a natural incidence relation. It is also shown that H induces another partition of AG(n,q2), into qn - l 1-caps, constituting the "large points" of an affine geometry AG(n + t + 1,q).

Also, the collineation C of PG(n, q2) given by xc = HTx induces collineations on the AG(n,q) and AG(n + t + 1,q).  相似文献

Let W be an n-dimensional vector space over a field F; for each positive integer m, let the m-tuples (U1, …, Um) of vector subspaces of W be uniformly distributed; and consider the statistics Xm,1 dimF(∑i=1m Ui) and Xm,2 dimF (∩i=1m Ui). If F is finite of cardinality q, we determine lim E(Xm,1k), and lim E(Xm,2k), and hence, lim var(Xm,1) and lim var(Xm,2), for any k > 0, where the limits are taken as q → ∞ (for fixed n). Further, we determine whether these, and other related, limits are attained monotonically. Analogous issues are also addressed for the case of infinite F.  相似文献

Given a set X of points in the plane, two distinguished points s,tX, and a set Φ of obstacles represented by line segments, we wish to compute a simple polygonal path from s to t that uses only points in X as vertices and avoids the obstacles in Φ. We present two results: (1) we show that finding such simple paths among arbitrary obstacles is NP-complete, and (2) we give a polynomial-time algorithm that computes simple paths when the obstacles form a simple polygon P and X is inside P. Our algorithm runs in time O(m2n2), where m is the number of vertices of P and n is the number of points in X.  相似文献

Let X1, X2,…be identically distributed random variables from an unknown continuous distribution. Further let Ir(1), Ir(2),…be a sequence of indicator functions defined on X1, X2,…by Ir(k) = 0 if k < r, Ir(k) = 1 if Xk is a r-record AND = 0 otherwise. Suppose that we observe X1, X2,… at times T1 < T2 <… where the Tk's are realisations of some regular counting process (N(τ)) defined on the positive half-line. Having observed [0, τ], say, the problem is to predict the future behaviour of the counting processes (Rr(τ, s)) = # r-records in [τ, s]. More specifically the objective of this paper is to show that these processes can be (inhomogeneous) Poisson processes even if (N(τ))τ0 has dependent increments.

The strong link between optimal selection and optimal stopping of record sequences or record processes, perhaps not fully recognized so far, is pointed out in this paper. It is shown to lead to a unification of the treatment of problems which, at first sight, are rather different. Moreover the stopping of record processes in continuous time can lead to rigorous and elegant solutions in cases where dynamic programming is bound to fail. Several examples will be given to facilitate a comparison with other methods.  相似文献

Gould et al. (Combinatorics, Graph Theory and Algorithms, Vol. 1, 1999, pp. 387–400) considered a variation of the classical Turán-type extremal problems as follows: For a given graph H, determine the smallest even integer σ(H,n) such that every n-term graphic sequence π=(d1,d2,…,dn) with term sum σ(π)=d1+d2++dnσ(H,n) has a realization G containing H as a subgraph. In this paper, for given integers k and ℓ, ℓ7 and 3kℓ, we completely determine the smallest even integer σ(kC,n) such that each n-term graphic sequence π=(d1,d2,…,dn) with term sum σ(π)=d1+d2++dnσ(kC,n) has a realization G containing a cycle of length r for each r, krℓ.  相似文献

The results in this paper are based on a previously constructed exhaustion of a locally symmetric space VX by Riemannian polyhedra, i.e., compact submanifolds with corners: V=s0V(s). We show that the interior of every polyhedron V(s) is homeomorphic to V. The universal covering space X(s) of V(s) is quasi-isometric to the discrete group Γ. It can be written as the complement of a Γ-invariant union of horoballs in X (which in general have intersections giving rise to the corners). This yields exponential isoperimetric inequalities for Γπ1(V(s)). We also discuss the relation of this compactification of V with the Borel–Serre compactification.  相似文献

Given a graph G and a positive integer d, an L(d,1)-labeling of G is a function f that assigns to each vertex of G a non-negative integer such that if two vertices u and v are adjacent, then |f(u)−f(v)|d; if u and v are not adjacent but there is a two-edge path between them, then |f(u)−f(v)|1. The L(d,1)-number of G, λd(G), is defined as the minimum m such that there is an L(d,1)-labeling f of G with f(V){0,1,2,…,m}. Motivated by the channel assignment problem introduced by Hale (Proc. IEEE 68 (1980) 1497–1514), the L(2,1)-labeling and the L(1,1)-labeling (as d=2 and 1, respectively) have been studied extensively in the past decade. This article extends the study to all positive integers d. We prove that λd(G2+(d−1)Δ for any graph G with maximum degree Δ. Different lower and upper bounds of λd(G) for some families of graphs including trees and chordal graphs are presented. In particular, we show that the lower and the upper bounds for trees are both attainable, and the upper bound for chordal graphs can be improved for several subclasses of chordal graphs.  相似文献

Let Dn,r denote the largest rth nearest neighbor link for n points drawn independently and uniformly from the unit d-cube Cd. We show that according as r < d or r>d, the limiting behavior of Dn,r, as n → ∞, is determined by the two-dimensional ‘faces’ respectively one-dimensional ‘edges’ of the boundary of Cd. If d = r, a ‘balance’ between faces and edges occurs. In case of a d-dimensional sphere (instead of a cube) the boundary dominates the asymptotic behavior of Dn,r if d 3 or if d = 2, r 3.  相似文献

It has been shown by Lei, in his recent paper, that there exists a large set of Kirkman triple systems of order uv (LKTS(uv)) if there exist an LKTS(v), a TKTS(v) and an LR(u), where a TKTS(v) is a transitive Kirkman triple system of order v, and an LR(u) is a new kind of design introduced by Lei. In this paper, we improve this product construction by removing the condition “there exists a TKTS(v)”. Our main idea is to use transitive resolvable idempotent symmetric quasigroups instead of TKTS. As an application, we can combine the known results on LKTS and LR-designs to obtain the existence of an LKTS(3nm(2·13n1+1)(2·13nt+1)) for n1, m{1,5,11,17,25,35,43,67,91,123}{22r+125s+1 : r0,s0}, t0 and ni1 (i=1,…,t).  相似文献

Let X be a Banach space, S(X) - x ε X : #x02016; = 1 be the unit sphere of X.The parameter, modulus of W*-convexity, W*(ε) = inf <(xy)/2, fx> : x, y S(X), xy ≥ ε, fx Δx , where 0 ≤ ε ≤ 2 and Δx S(X*) be the set of norm 1 supporting functionals of S(X) at x, is investigated_ The relationship among uniform nonsquareness, uniform normal structure and the parameter W*(ε) are studied, and a known result is improved. The main result is that for a Banach space X, if there is ε, where 0 < ε < 1/2, such that W*(1 + ε) > ε/2 where W*(1 + ε) = lim→ε W* (1 + ), then X has normal structure.  相似文献

On oscillation of second order neutral type delay differential equations   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
Oscillation criteria are obtained by using the so called H-method for the second order neutral type delay differential equations of the form
(r(t)ψ(x(t))z(t))+q(t)f(x(σ(t)))=0, tt0,
where z(t)=x(t)+p(t)x(τ(t)), r, p, q, τ, σ, C([t0,∞),R) and fC(R,R).

The results of the paper contains several results obtained previously as special cases. Furthermore, we are also able to fix an error in a recent paper related to the oscillation of second order nonneutral delay differential equations.  相似文献

Let λ be an irreducible character of Sn corresponding to the partition (r,s) of n. Let A be a positive semidefinite Hermitian n × n matrix. Let dλ(A) and per(A) be the immanants corresponding to λ and to the trivial character of Sn, respectively. A proof of the inequality dλ(A)≤λ(id)per(A) is given.  相似文献

By using the algorithm of Nürnberger and Riessinger (1995), we construct Hermite interpolation sets for spaces of bivariate splines Sqr1) of arbitrary smoothness defined on the uniform type triangulations. It is shown that our Hermite interpolation method yields optimal approximation order for q 3.5r + 1. In order to prove this, we use the concept of weak interpolation and arguments of Birkhoff interpolation.  相似文献

The following results are obtained. (i) Let p, d, and k be fixed positive integers, and let G be a graph whose vertex set can be partitioned into parts V1, V2,…, Va such that for each i at most d vertices in V1Vi have neighbors in Vi+1 and r(Kk, Vi) p | V(G) |, where Vi denotes the subgraph of G induced by Vi. Then there exists a number c depending only on p, d, and k such that r(Kk, G)c | V(G) |. (ii) Let d be a positive integer and let G be a graph in which there is an independent set I V(G) such that each component of GI has at most d vertices and at most two neighbors in I. Then r(G,G)c | V(G) |, where c is a number depending only on d. As a special case, r(G, G) 6 | V(G) | for a graph G in which all vertices of degree at least three are independent. The constant 6 cannot be replaced by one less than 4.  相似文献

Let q*(G) denote the minimum integer t for which E(G) can be partitioned into t induced matchings of G. Faudree et al. conjectured that q*(G)d2, if G is a bipartite graph and d is the maximum degree of G. In this note, we give an affirmative answer for d=3, the first nontrivial case of this conjecture.  相似文献
