A Finite Difference Scheme for Blow-Up Solutions of Nonlinear Wave Equations

<正>We consider a finite difference scheme for a nonlinear wave equation,whose solutions may lose their smoothness in finite time,i.e.,blow up in finite time.In order to numerically reproduce blow-up solutions,we propose a rule for a time-stepping, which is a variant of what was successfully used in the case of nonlinear parabolic equations.A numerical blow-up time is defined and is proved to converge,under a certain hypothesis,to the real blow-up time as the grid size tends to zero.     

KAM Theory for Partial Differential Equations

In the last years much progress has been achieved in KAM theory concerning bifurcation of quasi-periodic solutions of Hamiltonian or reversible partial differential equations.We provide an overview of the state of the art in this field.

Local Unstable Entropy and Local Unstable Pressure for Partially Hyperbolic Endomorphisms*

In this paper, local unstable metric entropy, local unstable topological entropy and local unstable pressure for partially hyperbolic endomorphisms are introduced and investigated. Specially, two variational principles concerning relationships among the above mentioned numbers are formulated.     

A Direct Method of Moving Planes to Fractional Power SubLaplace Equations on the Heisenberg Group

We give the direct method of moving planes for solutions to the conformally invariant fractional power sub Laplace equation on the Heisenberg group.The method is based on four maximum principles derived here.Then symmetry and nonexistence of positive cylindrical solutions are proved.     

Nonconforming Finite Element Methods for the Constrained Optimal Control Problems Governed by Nonsmooth Elliptic Equations

In this paper,nonconforming finite element methods(FEMs)are proposed for the constrained optimal control problems(OCPs)governed by the nonsmooth elliptic equations,in which the popular EQr1 ot element is employed to approximate the state and adjoint state,and the piecewise constant element is used to approximate the control.Firstly,the convergence and superconvergence properties for the nonsmooth elliptic equation are obtained by introducing an auxiliary problem.Secondly,the goal-oriented error estimates are obtained for the objective function through establishing the negative norm error estimate.Lastly,the methods are extended to some other well-known nonconforming elements.

Hölder,Sobolev,weak-type and BMO estimates in mixed-norm with weights for parabolic equations

We prove weighted mixed-norm Lqt(W2,px)and Lqt(C2,αx)estimates for 10,x∈Rn.x∈Rn,The coefficients a(t)=(aij(t))are just bounded,measurable,symmetric and uniformly elliptic.Furthermore,we show strong,weak type and BMO-Sobolev estimates with parabolic Muckenhoupt weights.It is quite remarkable that most of our results are new even for the classical heat equation?tu?Δu+u=f.     

ON THE DIFFERENTIAL AND DIFFERENCE INDEPENDENCE OFΓANDζ

In this paper,we study the algebraic differential and the difference independence between the Riemann zeta function and the Euler gamma function.It is proved that the Riemann zeta function and the Euler gamma function cannot satisfy a class of nontrivial algebraic differential equations and algebraic difference equations.     

PRECISE VALUES OF THE BLOCH CONSTANTS OF CERTAIN LOG-p-HARMONIC MAPPINGS

The aim of this article is twofold.One aim is to establish the precise forms of Landau-Bloch type theorems for certain polyharmonic mappings in the unit disk by applying a geometric method.The other is to obtain the precise values of Bloch constants for certain log-p-harmonic mappings.These results improve upon the corresponding results given in Bai et al.(Complex Anal.Oper.Theory,13(2):321-340,2019).

The shape of the hazard function for cancer incidence

A population-based cohort consisting of 126,141 men and 122,208 women born between 1874 and 1931 and at risk for breast or colorectal cancer after 1965 was identified by linking the Utah Population Data Base and the Utah Cancer Registry. The hazard function for cancer incidence is estimated from left truncated and right censored data based on the conditional likelihood. Four estimation procedures based on the conditional likelihood are used to estimate the age-specific hazard function from the data; these were the life-table method, a kernel method based on the Nelson Aalen estimator, a spline estimate, and a proportional hazards estimate based on splines with birth year as sole covariate.The results are consistent with an increasing hazard for both breast and colorectal cancer through age 85 or 90. After age 85 or 90, the hazard function for female breast and colorectal cancer may reach a plateua or decrease, although the hazard function for male colorectal cancer appears to continue to rise through age 105. The hazard function for both breast and colorectal cancer appears to be higher for more recent birth cohorts, with a more pronounced birth-cohort effect for breast cancer than for colorectal cancer. The age specific for colorectal cancer appears to be higher for men than for women. The shape of the hazard function for both breast and colorectal cancer appear to be consistent with a two-stage model for spontaneous carcinogenesis in which the initiation rate is constant or increasing. Inheritance of initiated cells appears to play a minor role.     

On bounds for the mode and median of the generalized hyperbolic and related distributions

Except for certain parameter values, a closed form formula for the mode of the generalized hyperbolic (GH) distribution is not available. In this paper, we exploit results from the literature on modified Bessel functions and their ratios to obtain simple but tight two-sided inequalities for the mode of the GH distribution for general parameter values. As a special case, we deduce tight two-sided inequalities for the mode of the variance-gamma (VG) distribution, and through a similar approach we also obtain tight two-sided inequalities for the mode of the McKay Type I distribution. The analogous problem for the median is more challenging, but we conjecture some monotonicity results for the median of the VG and McKay Type I distributions, from we which we conjecture some tight two-sided inequalities for their medians. Numerical experiments support these conjectures and also lead us to a conjectured tight lower bound for the median of the GH distribution.     

Determinants of matrices over semirings

In this paper, the concept of determinants for the matrices over a commutative semiring is introduced, and a development of determinantal identities is presented. This includes a generalization of the Laplace and Binet–Cauchy Theorems, as well as on adjoint matrices. Also, the determinants and the adjoint matrices over a commutative difference-ordered semiring are discussed and some inequalities for the determinants and for the adjoint matrices are obtained. The main results in this paper generalize the corresponding results for matrices over commutative rings, for fuzzy matrices, for lattice matrices and for incline matrices.

On value functions for impulsive control of piecewise-deterministic processes

The paper deals with value functions for optimal stopping and impulsive control for piecewise-deterministic processes with discounted cost. The associated dynamic programming equations are variational and quasi-variational inequalities with integral and first-order differential terms The technique used is to approximate the value functions for an optimal stopping (impulsive control. switching control) problem for a piecewise-deterministic process by value functions for optimal stopping (impulsive control, switching control) problems for Feller piecewise-deterministic processes     

Non-compact generalized variational inequalities for quasi-monotone and hemi-continuous operators with applications

Some results are obtained for non-compact cases in topological vector spaces for the existence problem of solutions for some set-valued variational inequalities with quasi-monotone and lower hemi-continuous operators, and with quasi-semi-monotone and upper hemi-continuous operators. Some applications are given in non-reflexive Banach spaces for these existence problems of solutions and for perturbation problems for these set-valued variational inequalities with quasi-monotone and quasi-semi-monotone operators. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.     

‘Strong’-‘weak’ precedence in scheduling: Extensions to series-parallel orders

We examine computational complexity implications for scheduling problems with job precedence relations with respect to strong precedence versus weak precedence. We propose a consistent definition of strong precedence for chains, trees, and series-parallel orders. Using modular decomposition for partially ordered sets (posets), we restate and extend past complexity results for chains and trees as summarized in Dror (1997) [5]. Moreover, for series-parallel posets we establish new computational complexity results for strong precedence constraints for single- and multi-machine problems.
