Let p be a prime k|p−1, t=(p−1)/k and γ(k,p) be the minimal value of s such that every number is a sum of s kth powers . We prove Heilbronn's conjecture that γ(k,p)?k1/2 for t>2. More generally we show that for any positive integer q, γ(k,p)?C(q)k1/q for ?(t)?q. A comparable lower bound is also given. We also establish exact values for γ(k,p) when ?(t)=2. For instance, when t=3, γ(k,p)=a+b−1 where a>b>0 are the unique integers with a2+b2+ab=p, and when t=4, γ(k,p)=a−1 where a>b>0 are the unique integers with a2+b2=p.  相似文献

We investigate the existence of nonnegative weak solutions to the problem ut=Δ(um)−p|∇u| in Rn×(0,∞) with +(1−2/n)<m<1. It will be proved that: (i) When 1<p<2, if the initial datum u0D(Rn) then there exists a solution; (ii) When 1<p<(2+mn)/(n+1), if the initial datum u0(x) is a bounded and nonnegative measure then the solution exists; (iii) When (2+mn)/(n+1)?p<2, if the initial datum is a Dirac mass then the solution does not exist. We also study the large time behavior of the L1-norm of solutions for 1<p?(2+mn)/(n+1), and the large time behavior of t1/βu(⋅,t)−Ec(⋅,t)L for (2+mn)/(n+1)<p<2.  相似文献

We study the long time behavior of solutions for damped wave equations with absorption. These equations are generally accepted as models of wave propagation in heterogeneous media with space-time dependent friction a(t,x)ut and nonlinear absorption |u|p−1u (Ikawa (2000) [17]). We consider 1<p<(n+2)/(n−2) and separable a(t,x)=λ(x)η(t) with λ(x)∼(1+|x|)α and η(t)∼(1+t)β satisfying conditions (A1) or (A2) which are given. The main results are precise decay estimates for the energy, L2 and Lp+1 norms of solutions. We also observe the following behavior: if α∈[0,1), β∈(−1,1) and 0<α+β<1, there are three different regions for the decay of solutions depending on p; if α∈(−,0) and β∈(−1,1), there are only two different regions for the decay of the solutions depending on p.  相似文献

We consider the boundary value problems: (?p(x(t)))+q(t)f(t,x(t),x(t−1),x(t))=0, ?p(s)=|s|p−2s, p>1, t∈(0,1), subject to some boundary conditions. By using a generalization of the Leggett-Williams fixed-point theorem due to Avery and Peterson, we provide sufficient conditions for the existence of at least three positive solutions to the above problems.  相似文献

The existence of a -global attractor is proved for the p-Laplacian equation ut−div(|∇u|p−2u)+f(u)=g on a bounded domain ΩRn(n?3) with Dirichlet boundary condition, where p?2. The nonlinear term f is supposed to satisfy the polynomial growth condition of arbitrary order c1q|u|−k?f(u)u?c2q|u|+k and f(u)?−l, where q?2 is arbitrary. There is no other restriction on p and q. The asymptotic compactness of the corresponding semigroup is proved by using a new a priori estimate method, called asymptotic a priori estimate.  相似文献

The existence of local (in time) solutions of the initial-boundary value problem for the following degenerate parabolic equation: ut(x,t)−Δpu(x,t)−|u|q−2u(x,t)=f(x,t), (x,t)∈Ω×(0,T), where 2?p<q<+∞, Ω is a bounded domain in RN, is given and Δp denotes the so-called p-Laplacian defined by Δpu:=∇⋅(|∇u|p−2u), with initial data u0Lr(Ω) is proved under r>N(qp)/p without imposing any smallness on u0 and f. To this end, the above problem is reduced into the Cauchy problem for an evolution equation governed by the difference of two subdifferential operators in a reflexive Banach space, and the theory of subdifferential operators and potential well method are employed to establish energy estimates. Particularly, Lr-estimates of solutions play a crucial role to construct a time-local solution and reveal the dependence of the time interval [0,T0] in which the problem admits a solution. A Hilbert space operator A ∈ B(H) is said to be p-quasi-hyponormal for some 0 < p ? 1, A ∈ p − QH, if A(∣A2p − ∣A2p)A ? 0. If H is infinite dimensional, then operators A ∈ p − QH are not supercyclic. Restricting ourselves to those A ∈ p − QH for which A−1(0) ⊆ A∗-1(0), A ∈ p − QH, a necessary and sufficient condition for the adjoint of a pure p − QH operator to be supercyclic is proved. Operators in p − QH satisfy Bishop’s property (β). Each A ∈ p − QH has the finite ascent property and the quasi-nilpotent part H0(A − λI) of A equals (A − λI)-1(0) for all complex numbers λ; hence f(A) satisfies Weyl’s theorem, and f(A) satisfies a-Weyl’s theorem, for all non-constant functions f which are analytic on a neighborhood of σ(A). In this article we prove weighted norm inequalities and pointwise estimates between the multilinear fractional integral operator and the multilinear fractional maximal. As a consequence of these estimations we obtain weighted weak and strong inequalities for the multilinear fractional maximal operator or function. In particular, we extend some results given in Carro et al. (2005) [7] to the multilinear context. On the other hand we prove weighted pointwise estimates between the multilinear fractional maximal operator Mα,B associated to a Young function B and the multilinear maximal operators Mψ=M0,ψ, ψ(t)=B(t1−α/(nm))nm/(nmα). As an application of these estimate we obtain a direct proof of the LpLq boundedness results of Mα,B for the case B(t)=t and Bk(t)=tk(1+log+t) when 1/q=1/pα/n. We also give sufficient conditions on the weights involved in the boundedness results of Mα,B that generalizes those given in Moen (2009) [22] for B(t)=t. Finally, we prove some boundedness results in Banach function spaces for a generalized version of the multilinear fractional maximal operator.  相似文献

The unitary group U(n) has elements εiπ2i+1(U(n)) (0?i?n−1) of its homotopy groups in the stable range. In this paper we show that certain multi Samelson products of type 〈εi,〈εj,εk〉〉 are non-trivial. This leads us to the result that the nilpotency class of the group of the self homotopy set [SU(n),SU(n)] is no less than 3, if 4?n. Also by the power of generalized Samelson products, we can see the further result that, for a prime p and an integer n=pk, nil[SU(n),SU(n)](p)?3, if (1) p?7 or (2) p=5 and n≡0 or 1mod4.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with positive solutions of the boundary value problem (|y|p−2y)+f(y)=0, y(−b)=0=y(b) where p>1, b is a positive parameter. Assume that f is continuous on (0,+∞), changes sign from nonpositive to positive, and f(y)/yp−1 is nondecreasing in the interval of f>0. Let p be an odd prime and γ(k,pn) be the smallest positive integer s such that every integer is a sum of s kth powers . We establish γ(k,pn)?[k/2]+2 and provided that k is not divisible by (p−1)/2. Next, let t=(p−1)/(p−1,k), and q be any positive integer. We show that if ?(t)?q then γ(k,pn)?c(q)k1/q for some constant c(q). These results generalize results known for the case of prime moduli.
