We develop general approximate Newton methods for solving Lipschitz continuous equations by replacing the iteration matrix with a consistently approximated Jacobian, thereby reducing the computation in the generalized Newton method. Locally superlinear convergence results are presented under moderate assumptions. To construct a consistently approximated Jacobian, we introduce two main methods: the classic difference approximation method and the -generalized Jacobian method. The former can be applied to problems with specific structures, while the latter is expected to work well for general problems. Numerical tests show that the two methods are efficient. Finally, a norm-reducing technique for the global convergence of the generalized Newton method is briefly discussed.  相似文献

 Semismooth Newton methods constitute a major research area for solving mixed complementarity problems (MCPs). Early research on semismooth Newton methods is mainly on infeasible methods. However, some MCPs are not well defined outside the feasible region or the equivalent unconstrained reformulations of other MCPs contain local minimizers outside the feasible region. As both these problems could make the corresponding infeasible methods fail, more recent attention is on feasible methods. In this paper we propose a new feasible semismooth method for MCPs, in which the search direction asymptotically converges to the Newton direction. The new method overcomes the possible non-convergence of the projected semismooth Newton method, which is widely used in various numerical implementations, by minimizing a one-dimensional quadratic convex problem prior to doing (curved) line searches. As with other semismooth Newton methods, the proposed method only solves one linear system of equations at each iteration. The sparsity of the Jacobian of the reformulated system can be exploited, often reducing the size of the system that must be solved. The reason for this is that the projection onto the feasible set increases the likelihood of components of iterates being active. The global and superlinear/quadratic convergence of the proposed method is proved under mild conditions. Numerical results are reported on all problems from the MCPLIB collection [8]. In this paper, we introduce an inexact interior-point algorithm for a constrained system of equations. The formulation of the problem is quite general and includes nonlinear complementarity problems of various kinds. In our convergence theory, we interpret the inexact interior-point method as an inexact Newton method. This enables us to establish a global convergence theory for the proposed algorithm. Under the additional assumption of the invertibility of the Jacobian at the solution, the superlinear convergence of the iteration sequence is proved.  相似文献

Under the assumption of semi-smoothness of the mapping, we prove that the approximation can be obtained through the Clarke generalized Jacobian, Ioffe-Ralph generalized Jacobian, B-subdifferential and their approximations. As an application, we propose a generalized Newton’s method based on the point-based set-valued approximation for solving nonsmooth equations. We show that the proposed method converges locally superlinearly without the assumption of semi-smoothness. Finally we include some well-known generalized Newton’s methods in our method and consolidate the convergence results of these methods. We consider the generalized Nash equilibrium problem (GNEP), where not only the players’ cost functions but also their strategy spaces depend on the rivals’ decision variables. Existence results for GNEPs are typically shown by using a fixed point argument for a certain set-valued function. Here we use a regularization of this set-valued function in order to obtain a single-valued function that is easier to deal with from a numerical point of view. We show that the fixed points of the latter function constitute an important subclass of the generalized equilibria called normalized equilibria. This fixed point formulation is then used to develop a nonsmooth Newton method for computing a normalized equilibrium. The method uses a so-called computable generalized Jacobian that is much easier to compute than Clarke generalized Jacobian or B-subdifferential. We establish local superlinear/quadratic convergence of the method under the constant rank constraint qualification, which is weaker than the frequently used linear independence constraint qualification, and a suitable second-order condition. Some numerical results are presented to illustrate the performance of the method.  相似文献

Newton‐HSS methods, which are variants of inexact Newton methods different from the Newton–Krylov methods, have been shown to be competitive methods for solving large sparse systems of nonlinear equations with positive‐definite Jacobian matrices (J. Comp. Math. 2010; 28 :235–260). In that paper, only local convergence was proved. In this paper, we prove a Kantorovich‐type semilocal convergence. Then we introduce Newton‐HSS methods with a backtracking strategy and analyse their global convergence. Finally, these globally convergent Newton‐HSS methods are shown to work well on several typical examples using different forcing terms to stop the inner iterations. In this paper,we provide a finitely terminated yet efficient approach to compute the Euclidean projection onto the ordered weighted?1(OWL1)norm ball.In particular,an efficient semismooth Newton method is proposed for solving the dual of a reformulation of the original projection problem.Global and local quadratic convergence results,as well as the finite termination property,of the algorithm are proved.Numerical comparisons with the two best-known methods demonstrate the efficiency of our method.In addition,we derive the generalized Jacobian of the studied projector which,we believe,is crucial for the future designing of fast second-order nonsmooth methods for solving general OWL1 norm constrained problems.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a new distinctive version of a generalized Newton method for solving nonsmooth equations. The iterative formula is not the classic Newton type, but an exponential one. Moreover, it uses matrices from B‐differential instead of generalized Jacobian. We prove local convergence of the method and we present some numerical examples.  相似文献

We develop and analyze an affine scaling inexact generalized Newton algorithm in association with nonmonotone interior backtracking line technique for solving systems of semismooth equations subject to bounds on variables. By combining inexact affine scaling generalized Newton with interior backtracking line search technique, each iterate switches to inexact generalized Newton backtracking step to strict interior point feasibility. The global convergence results are developed in a very general setting of computing trial steps by the affine scaling generalized Newton-like method that is augmented by an interior backtracking line search technique projection onto the feasible set. Under some reasonable conditions we establish that close to a regular solution the inexact generalized Newton method is shown to converge locally p-order q-superlinearly. We characterize the order of local convergence based on convergence behavior of the quality of the approximate subdifferentials and indicate how to choose an inexact forcing sequence which preserves the rapid convergence of the proposed algorithm. A nonmonotonic criterion should bring about speeding up the convergence progress in some ill-conditioned cases.  相似文献

We consider an inverse quadratic programming (QP) problem in which the parameters in both the objective function and the constraint set of a given QP problem need to be adjusted as little as possible so that a known feasible solution becomes the optimal one. We formulate this problem as a linear complementarity constrained minimization problem with a positive semidefinite cone constraint. With the help of duality theory, we reformulate this problem as a linear complementarity constrained semismoothly differentiable (SC1) optimization problem with fewer variables than the original one. We propose a perturbation approach to solve the reformulated problem and demonstrate its global convergence. An inexact Newton method is constructed to solve the perturbed problem and its global convergence and local quadratic convergence rate are shown. As the objective function of the problem is a SC1 function involving the projection operator onto the cone of positively semi-definite symmetric matrices, the analysis requires an implicit function theorem for semismooth functions as well as properties of the projection operator in the symmetric-matrix space. Since an approximate proximal point is required in the inexact Newton method, we also give a Newton method to obtain it. Finally we report our numerical results showing that the proposed approach is quite effective.  相似文献
