As shown in [1], for each compact Hausdorff space K without isolated points, there exists a compact Hausdorff P′-space X but not an F-space such that C(K) is isometrically Riesz isomorphic to a Riesz subspace of C(X). The proof is technical and depends heavily on some representation theorems. In this paper we give a simple and direct proof without any assumptions on isolated points. Some generalizations of these results are mentioned.  相似文献

We study a new cardinal-valued invariant ndw(X) (calling it the nd-weight of X) of a topological space which is defined as the least upper bound of the weights of nowhere dense subsets of X. The main result is the proof of the inequality hl(X)ndw(X) for compact sets without isolated points ((hl is the hereditary Lindelof number). This inequality implies that a compact space without isolated points of countable nd-weight is completely normal. Assuming the continuum hypothesis, we construct an example of a nonmetrizable compact space of countable nd-weight without isolated points.  相似文献

A map f:XY between Hausdorff topological spaces is k-continuous if its restriction f| K to every compact subspace K of X is continuous. X is called a k R -space if every k-continuous function from X to a Tychonoff space is continuous. In this paper we investigate the category of Tychonoff k R -spaces, and show that it is Cartesian closed (thus convenient in the sense of Wyler).  相似文献

The paper discusses some equivalent ways of construction of infinite-dimensional homotopic groups of subsets and pairs of subsets in real Hilbert spaces. In the admissible class of K 0-continuous mappings, the homotopic invariance of the mentioned groups and their isomorphism are demonstrated in the case where the basic points belong to the same component of K 0-linear connectivity.  相似文献

We define a notion of strong K-theoretic amenability for a locally compact group G. This notion coincides with the K-theoretic amenability of many groups. Given Banach spaces X, Yand a compact Hausdorff space K, we use polymeasures to give necessary conditions for a multilinear operator from C(K, X) into Yto be completely continuous (resp. unconditionally converging). We deduce necessary and sufficient conditions for Xto have the Schur property (resp. to contain no copy of c 0), and for Kto be scattered. This extends results concerning linear operators.  相似文献

Let Z be a boundedness control space and p: X Z be a continuous map. The boundedly controlled Whitehead group Wh bc (X, p) is defined to be a quotient of the boundedly controlled K 1-group K 1 bc (X, p) by a certain subgroup whose generators are explicitly given. In general, little is known about this subgroup and it is even possible that it vanishes; i.e. that the boundedly controlled K 1 and Whitehead groups are identical. This paper examines the structure of this subgroup in the case when p is the open cone on a PL map between compact polyhedra. A subset MX of a normed linear space X is a Chebyshev set if, for every xX, the set of all nearest points from M to x is a singleton. We obtain a geometrical characterisation of approximatively compact Chebyshev sets in c0. Also, given an approximatively compact Chebyshev set M in c0 and a coordinate affine subspace Hc0 of finite codimension, if MH≠, then MH is a Chebyshev set in H, where the norm on H is induced from c0.  相似文献

Given a space M, a family of sets A of a space X is ordered by M if A={AK:K is a compact subset of M} and KL implies AKAL. We study the class M of spaces which have compact covers ordered by a second countable space. We prove that a space Cp(X) belongs to M if and only if it is a Lindelöf Σ-space. Under MA(ω1), if X is compact and (X×X)\Δ has a compact cover ordered by a Polish space then X is metrizable; here Δ={(x,x):xX} is the diagonal of the space X. Besides, if X is a compact space of countable tightness and X2\Δ belongs to M then X is metrizable in ZFC.We also consider the class M? of spaces X which have a compact cover F ordered by a second countable space with the additional property that, for every compact set PX there exists FF with PF. It is a ZFC result that if X is a compact space and (X×X)\Δ belongs to M? then X is metrizable. We also establish that, under CH, if X is compact and Cp(X) belongs to M? then X is countable.  相似文献

Hermitian structures onA ring spaces are studied as necessary input data for HermitianK-theory of spaces. The well-known formula of Riemann-Hurwitz gives the change of genuses in ann-fold covering of compact connected Riemann surfaces. In Iwasawa theory, there existp-adic analogues which give the change of certain ±-invariants in ap-extension ofCM number fields. Using functorial and arithmetical properties ofK 3, we extend such Riemann-Hurwitzp-adic formulas to non-CM fields, assuming some restrictive hypotheses on the capitulation ofK 2.

It is shown that a flag-transitive C 3-geometry of finite order (x, y) with x2 is either a finite building of type C 3 (and hence the classical polar space for a 6-dimensional symplectic space, a 6-dimensional orthogonal space of plus type, a 6- or 7-dimensional hermitian space, a 7-dimensional orthogonal space, or an 8-dimensional orthogonal space of minus type) or the sporadic A 7-geometry with 7 points.  相似文献

Elliptic operators on smooth compact manifolds are classified by K-homology. We prove that a similar classification is valid also for manifolds with simplest singularities: isolated conical points and edges. The main ingredients of the proof of these results are: Atiyah–Singer difference construction in the noncommutative case and Poincaré isomorphism in K-theory for (our) singular manifolds. Let SB(X,Y) be the set of the bounded sublinear operators from a Banach space X into a Banach lattice Y. Consider π2(X,Y) the set of 2-summing sublinear operators. We study in this paper a variation of Grothendieck's theorem in the sublinear operators case. We prove under some conditions that every operator in SB(C(K),H) is in π2(C(K),H) for any compact K and any Hilbert H. In the noncommutative case the problem is still open.  相似文献
