The 1976 paper of G. Dahlquist, [13], has had a wide-ranging impact on our understanding of numerical methods for the solution of stiff differential equation systems. The present paper surveys some of the work of Dahlquist in this area. It also shows how this has led to contributions by other authors. In particular, the paper contains a review of non-linear stability for Runge–Kutta and general linear methods. We show that in any nontrivial Nakano space X=Lp(·) (Ω, Σ, μ) with essentially bounded random exponent function p(·), the range Y = R(P) of a positive contractive projection P is itself representable as a Nakano space LpY(·) (ΩY ΣY, νY), for a certain measurable set YΩ⊆Ω (the support of the range), a certain sub-sigma ring YΣ⊆Σ (with maximal element ΩY) naturally determined by the lattice structure of Y, and a semi-finite measure νY, namely the restriction of some measure Ω on E which is equivalent to μ. Furthermore, we show that the random exponent pY(·) associated with such a range can be taken to be the restriction to ΩY of the random exponent p(·) (this restriction turns out to be ΣY-measurable). As an application of this result, we find Banach lattice isometric characterizations of suitable classes of Nakano spaces. These classes are defined in terms of an important lattice-isometric invariant of Nakano spaces, the essential range of the variable exponent.  相似文献

In this paper we establish the existence of the minimal large positive solution for a general class of nonlinear cooperative systems including the simplest prototype of García-Melián et al. (2016). Precisely, based on the existence of a large positive supersolution, we can infer the existence of the minimal large positive solution. Moreover, we also give some sufficient easily computable conditions for the existence of a large positive supersolution. Our results generalize, very substantially, some of the findings of García-Melián et al. (2016) adopting a rather novel methodology.  相似文献

In this paper, we prove that most of problems in variational relations (in the sense of Baire category) are essential and that, for any problem in variational relations, there exists at least one essential component of its solution set. In the study of hamiltonian graphs, many well known results use degree conditions to ensure sufficient edge density for the existence of a hamiltonian cycle. Recently it was shown that the classic degree conditions of Dirac and Ore actually imply far more than the existence of a hamiltonian cycle in a graph G, but also the existence of a 2-factor with exactly k cycles, where . In this paper we continue to study the number of cycles in 2-factors. Here we consider the well-known result of Moon and Moser which implies the existence of a hamiltonian cycle in a balanced bipartite graph of order 2n. A quasi Fourier-type duality associated with a bandlimited stationary stochastic process can be established. It comes from the spectral representation of the process and a compact support assumption for its spectral density. In this way, for essentially bounded spectral densities we have an isometry between a weightedL2space and the Hilbert space spanned by the process. We can transfer converging expansions for the exponential complex eitw in the :L2-space into a sampling expansion for the process converging in the mean square sense.  相似文献

This paper investigates the existence of periodic solutions of a three-species food-chain diffusive system with Beddington-DeAngelis functional responses and time delays in a two-patch environment on time scales. By using a continuation theorem based on coincidence degree theory, we obtain sufficient criteria for the existence of periodic solutions for the system. Moreover, when the time scale T is chosen as R or Z, the existence of the periodic solutions of the corresponding continuous and discrete models follows. Therefore, the method is unified to provide the existence of the desired solutions for continuous differential equations and discrete difference equations.  相似文献

For abstract linear functional differential equations with a weighted pseudo-almost periodic forcing term, we prove that the existence of a bounded solution on R+ implies the existence of a weighted pseudo-almost periodic solution. Our results extend the classical theorem due to Massera on the existence of periodic solutions for linear periodic ordinary differential equations. Some sufficient conditions are presented for the controllability of general nonlinear systems. First, the controllability problem is transformed into the problem of existence of fixed points for some operator; using Schauder's theorem, it is derived that a sufficient condition for controllability is the existence of a subsetS inC n+m (T) which is invariant for a derived operator. Secondly, with the aid of the notion of comparison principle, the existence of the subsetS is guaranteed by the existence of solutions for some nonlinear integral inequality or equality equations. For example, one solution for such nonlinear integral equations is obtained under the assumption of the uniform boundedness for a nonlinear term of the differential equation.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the existence of periodic solutions for classical Hamiltonian systems without the Palais-Smale condition. We prove that the information of the potential function contained in a finite domain is sufficient for the existence of periodic solutions.
