This paper considers several probability maximization models for multi-scenario portfolio selection problems in the case that future returns in possible scenarios are multi-dimensional random variables. In order to consider occurrence probabilities and decision makers’ predictions with respect to all scenarios, a portfolio selection problem setting a weight with flexibility to each scenario is proposed. Furthermore, by introducing aspiration levels to occurrence probabilities or future target profit and maximizing the minimum aspiration level, a robust portfolio selection problem is considered. Since these problems are formulated as stochastic programming problems due to the inclusion of random variables, they are transformed into deterministic equivalent problems introducing chance constraints based on the stochastic programming approach. Then, using a relation between the variance and absolute deviation of random variables, our proposed models are transformed into linear programming problems and efficient solution methods are developed to obtain the global optimal solution. Furthermore, a numerical example of a portfolio selection problem is provided to compare our proposed models with the basic model.  相似文献

We consider bounds for the price of a European-style call option under regime switching. Stochastic semidefinite programming models are developed that incorporate a lattice generated by a finite-state Markov chain regime-switching model as a representation of scenarios (uncertainty) to compute bounds. The optimal first-stage bound value is equivalent to a Value at Risk quantity, and the optimal solution can be obtained via simple sorting. The upper (lower) bounds from the stochastic model are bounded below (above) by the corresponding deterministic bounds and are always less conservative than their robust optimization (min-max) counterparts. In addition, penalty parameters in the model allow controllability in the degree to which the regime switching dynamics are incorporated into the bounds. We demonstrate the value of the stochastic solution (bound) and computational experiments using the S&P 500 index are performed that illustrate the advantages of the stochastic programming approach over the deterministic strategy.  相似文献

This paper deals with two-stage and multi-stage stochastic programs in which the right-hand sides of the constraints are Gaussian random variables. Such problems are of interest since the use of Gaussian estimators of random variables is widespread. We introduce algorithms to find upper bounds on the optimal value of two-stage and multi-stage stochastic (minimization) programs with Gaussian right-hand sides. The upper bounds are obtained by solving deterministic mathematical programming problems with dimensions that do not depend on the sample space size. The algorithm for the two-stage problem involves the solution of a deterministic linear program and a simple semidefinite program. The algorithm for the multi-stage problem invovles the solution of a quadratically constrained convex programming problem.  相似文献

This paper presents a chance constrained programming approach to the problem of maximizing the ratio of two linear functions of decision variables which are subject to linear inequality constraints. The coefficient parameters of the numerator of the objective function are assumed to be random variables with a known multivariate normal probability distribution. A deterministic equivalent of the stochastic linear fractional programming formulation has been obtained and a subsidiary convex program is given to solve the deterministic problem.  相似文献

Uncertainty in the parameters of a mathematical program may present a modeller with considerable difficulties. Most approaches in the stochastic programming literature place an apparent heavy data and computational burden on the user and as such are often intractable. Moreover, the models themselves are difficult to understand. This probably explains why one seldom sees a fundamentally stochastic model being solved using stochastic programming techniques. Instead, it is common practice to solve a deterministic model with different assumed scenarios for the random coefficients. In this paper we present a simple approach to solving a stochastic model, based on a particular method for combining such scenario solutions into a single, feasible policy. The approach is computationally simple and easy to understand. Because of its generality, it can handle multiple competing objectives, complex stochastic constraints and may be applied in contexts other than optimization. To illustrate our model, we consider two distinct, important applications: the optimal management of a hydro-thermal generating system and an application taken from portfolio optimization.  相似文献

This paper proposes a stochastic programming model and solution algorithm for solving supply chain network design problems of a realistic scale. Existing approaches for these problems are either restricted to deterministic environments or can only address a modest number of scenarios for the uncertain problem parameters. Our solution methodology integrates a recently proposed sampling strategy, the sample average approximation (SAA) scheme, with an accelerated Benders decomposition algorithm to quickly compute high quality solutions to large-scale stochastic supply chain design problems with a huge (potentially infinite) number of scenarios. A computational study involving two real supply chain networks are presented to highlight the significance of the stochastic model as well as the efficiency of the proposed solution strategy.  相似文献

In this paper we show how one can get stochastic solutions of Stochastic Multi-objective Problem (SMOP) using goal programming models. In literature it is well known that one can reduce a SMOP to deterministic equivalent problems and reduce the analysis of a stochastic problem to a collection of deterministic problems. The first sections of this paper will be devoted to the introduction of deterministic equivalent problems when the feasible set is a random set and we show how to solve them using goal programming technique. In the second part we try to go more in depth on notion of SMOP solution and we suppose that it has to be a random variable. We will present stochastic goal programming model for finding stochastic solutions of SMOP. Our approach requires more computational time than the one based on deterministic equivalent problems due to the fact that several optimization programs (which depend on the number of experiments to be run) needed to be solved. On the other hand, since in our approach we suppose that a SMOP solution is a random variable, according to the Central Limit Theorem the larger will be the sample size and the more precise will be the estimation of the statistical moments of a SMOP solution. The developed model will be illustrated through numerical examples.  相似文献

The subject of this paper is to study a realistic planning environment in wafer fabrication for the control or dummy (C/D) wafers problem with uncertain demand. The demand of each product is assumed with a geometric Brownian motion and approximated by a finite discrete set of scenarios. A two‐stage stochastic programming model is developed based on scenarios and solved by a deterministic equivalent large linear programming model. The model explicitly considers the objective to minimize the total cost of C/D wafers. A real‐world example is given to illustrate the practicality of a stochastic approach. The results are better in comparison with deterministic linear programming by using expectation instead of stochastic demands. The model improved the performance of control and dummy wafers management and the flexibility of determining the downgrading policy. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

From the point of view of a price-taking hydropower producer participating in the day-ahead power market, market prices are highly uncertain. The present paper provides a model for determining optimal bidding strategies taking this uncertainty into account. In particular, market price scenarios are generated and a stochastic mixed-integer linear programming model that involves both hydropower production and physical trading aspects is developed. The idea is to explore the effects of including uncertainty explicitly into optimization by comparing the stochastic approach to a deterministic approach. The model is illustrated with data from a Norwegian hydropower producer and the Nordic power market at Nord Pool.  相似文献

In this paper we apply stochastic programming modelling and solution techniques to planning problems for a consortium of oil companies. A multiperiod supply, transformation and distribution scheduling problem—the Depot and Refinery Optimization Problem (DROP)—is formulated for strategic or tactical level planning of the consortium's activities. This deterministic model is used as a basis for implementing a stochastic programming formulation with uncertainty in the product demands and spot supply costs (DROPS), whose solution process utilizes the deterministic equivalent linear programming problem. We employ our STOCHGEN general purpose stochastic problem generator to ‘recreate’ the decision (scenario) tree for the unfolding future as this deterministic equivalent. To project random demands for oil products at different spatial locations into the future and to generate random fluctuations in their future prices/costs a stochastic input data simulator is developed and calibrated to historical industry data. The models are written in the modelling language XPRESS-MP and solved by the XPRESS suite of linear programming solvers. From the viewpoint of implementation of large-scale stochastic programming models this study involves decisions in both space and time and careful revision of the original deterministic formulation. The first part of the paper treats the specification, generation and solution of the deterministic DROP model. The stochastic version of the model (DROPS) and its implementation are studied in detail in the second part and a number of related research questions and implications discussed.  相似文献

The nature of hydrologic parameters in reservoir management models is uncertain. In mathematical programming models the uncertainties are dealt with either indirectly (sensitivity analysis of a deterministic model) or directly by applying a chance-constrained type of formulation or some of the stochastic programming techniques (LP and DP based models). Various approaches are reviewed in the paper. Moran's theory of storage is an alternative stochastic modelling approach to mathematical programming techniques. The basis of the approach and its application is presented. Reliability programming is a stochastic technique based on the chance-constrained approach, where the reliabilities of the chance constraints are considered as extra decision variables in the model. The problem of random event treatment in the reservoir management model formulation using reliability programming is addressed in this paper.  相似文献

Using the decomposition of solution of SDE, we consider the stochastic optimal control problem with anticipative controls as a family of deterministic control problems parametrized by the paths of the driving Wiener process and of a newly introduced Lagrange multiplier stochastic process (nonanticipativity equality constraint). It is shown that the value function of these problems is the unique global solution of a robust equation (random partial differential equation) associated to a linear backward Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman stochastic partial differential equation (HJB SPDE). This appears as limiting SPDE for a sequence of random HJB PDE's when linear interpolation approximation of the Wiener process is used. Our approach extends the Wong-Zakai type results [20] from SDE to the stochastic dynamic programming equation by showing how this arises as average of the limit of a sequence of deterministic dynamic programming equations. The stochastic characteristics method of Kunita [13] is used to represent the value function. By choosing the Lagrange multiplier equal to its nonanticipative constraint value the usual stochastic (nonanticipative) optimal control and optimal cost are recovered. This suggests a method for solving the anticipative control problems by almost sure deterministic optimal control. We obtain a PDE for the “cost of perfect information” the difference between the cost function of the nonanticipative control problem and the cost of the anticipative problem which satisfies a nonlinear backward HJB SPDE. Poisson bracket conditions are found ensuring this has a global solution. The cost of perfect information is shown to be zero when a Lagrangian submanifold is invariant for the stochastic characteristics. The LQG problem and a nonlinear anticipative control problem are considered as examples in this framework  相似文献

Motivated by sawmill production planning, this paper investigates multi-period, multi-product (MPMP) production planning in a manufacturing environment with non-homogeneous raw materials, and consequently random process yields. A two-stage stochastic program with recourse is proposed to address the problem. The random yields are modelled as scenarios with stationary probability distributions during the planning horizon. The solution methodology is based on the sample average approximation (SAA) scheme. The stochastic sawmill production planning model is validated through the Monte Carlo simulation. The computational results for a real medium capacity sawmill highlight the significance of using the stochastic model as a viable tool for production planning instead of the mean-value deterministic model, which is a traditional production planning tool in many sawmills.  相似文献

Uncertainty is one of the characteristics of product recovery networks. In particular the strategic design of their logistic infrastructure has to take uncertain information into account. In this paper we present a stochastic programming based approach by which a deterministic location model for product recovery network design may be extended to explicitly account for the uncertainties. Such a stochastic model seeks a solution which is appropriately balanced between some alternative scenarios identified by field experts. We apply the stochastic models to a representative real case study on recycling sand from demolition waste in The Netherlands. The interpretation of the results is meant to give more insight into decision-making under uncertainty for reverse logistics.  相似文献

We consider the optimal portfolio selection problem in a multiple period setting where the investor maximizes the expected utility of the terminal wealth in a stochastic market. The utility function has an exponential structure and the market states change according to a Markov chain. The states of the market describe the prevailing economic, financial, social and other conditions that affect the deterministic and probabilistic parameters of the model. This includes the distributions of the random asset returns as well as the utility function. The problem is solved using the dynamic programming approach to obtain the optimal solution and an explicit characterization of the optimal policy. We also discuss the stochastic structure of the wealth process under the optimal policy and determine various quantities of interest including its Fourier transform. The exponential return-risk frontier of the terminal wealth is shown to have a linear form. Special cases of multivariate normal and exponential returns are disussed together with a numerical illustration.  相似文献

Although stochastic programming is a powerful tool for modeling decision-making under uncertainty, various impediments have historically prevented its wide-spread use. One factor involves the ability of non-specialists to easily express stochastic programming problems as extensions of their deterministic counterparts, which are typically formulated first. A second factor relates to the difficulty of solving stochastic programming models, particularly in the mixed-integer, non-linear, and/or multi-stage cases. Intricate, configurable, and parallel decomposition strategies are frequently required to achieve tractable run-times on large-scale problems. We simultaneously address both of these factors in our PySP software package, which is part of the Coopr open-source Python repository for optimization; the latter is distributed as part of IBM’s COIN-OR repository. To formulate a stochastic program in PySP, the user specifies both the deterministic base model (supporting linear, non-linear, and mixed-integer components) and the scenario tree model (defining the problem stages and the nature of uncertain parameters) in the Pyomo open-source algebraic modeling language. Given these two models, PySP provides two paths for solution of the corresponding stochastic program. The first alternative involves passing an extensive form to a standard deterministic solver. For more complex stochastic programs, we provide an implementation of Rockafellar and Wets’ Progressive Hedging algorithm. Our particular focus is on the use of Progressive Hedging as an effective heuristic for obtaining approximate solutions to multi-stage stochastic programs. By leveraging the combination of a high-level programming language (Python) and the embedding of the base deterministic model in that language (Pyomo), we are able to provide completely generic and highly configurable solver implementations. PySP has been used by a number of research groups, including our own, to rapidly prototype and solve difficult stochastic programming problems.  相似文献

This paper presents a stochastic optimization model and efficient decomposition algorithm for multi-site capacity planning under the uncertainty of the TFT-LCD industry. The objective of the stochastic capacity planning is to determine a robust capacity allocation and expansion policy hedged against demand uncertainties because the demand forecasts faced by TFT-LCD manufacturers are usually inaccurate and vary rapidly over time. A two-stage scenario-based stochastic mixed integer programming model that extends the deterministic multi-site capacity planning model proposed by Chen et al. (2010) [1] is developed to discuss the multi-site capacity planning problem in the face of uncertain demands. In addition a three-step methodology is proposed to generate discrete demand scenarios within the stochastic optimization model by approximating the stochastic continuous demand process fitted from the historical data. An expected shadow-price based decomposition, a novel algorithm for the stage decomposition approach, is developed to obtain a near-optimal solution efficiently through iterative procedures and parallel computing. Preliminary computational study shows that the proposed decomposition algorithm successfully addresses the large-scale stochastic capacity planning model in terms of solution quality and computation time. The proposed algorithm also outperforms the plain use of the CPLEX MIP solver as the problem size becomes larger and the number of demand scenarios increases.  相似文献

We survey in this paper various solution approaches for multiobjective stochastic problems where random variables can be in both objectives and constraints parameters. Once a problem requires a stochastic formulation, a first step consists in transforming the problem into its deterministic formulation. We propose to classify and evaluate such transformations with regards to the many proposed concepts of efficiency. The paper addresses also some applications of the multiobjective stochastic programming models.  相似文献

This paper presents a formulation and resolution of a two-stage stochastic linear programming model with recourse for sow farms producing piglets. The proposed model considers a medium-term planning horizon and specifically allows optimal replacement and schedule of purchases to be obtained for the first stage. This model takes into account sow herd dynamics, housing facilities, reproduction management, herd size with initial and final inventory of sows and uncertain parameters such as litter size, mortality and fertility rates. These last parameters are explicitly incorporated via a finite set of scenarios. The proposed model is solved by using the algebraic modelling software OPL Studio from ILOG, in combination with the solver CPLEX to solve the linear models resulting from different instances considered. The article also presents results obtained with previous deterministic models assessing the suitability of the stochastic approach. Finally, the conclusions drawn from the study including an outlook are presented.   相似文献

This paper considers optimal feedback control policies for a class of discrete stochastic distributed-parameter systems. The class under consideration has the property that the random variable in the dynamic systems depends only on the time and possesses the Markovian property with stationary transition probabilities. A necessary condition for optimality of a feedback control policy, which has form similar to the Hamiltonian form in the deterministic case, is derived via a dynamic programming approach.  相似文献
