The (strong) Laplace-Beltrami derivative and related operators appear quite frequently in many problems involving Fourier series, spherical harmonics, approximation of functions and smoothness. This article intends to provide an overview with updates on such operators. While most of the results concerning the Laplace-Beltrami derivative found in the literature are stated in the three-dimensional setting, our approach includes higher-dimensional spheres. We present proofs for results which are labeled as known but are just mentioned elsewhere. Spherical moduli of smoothness and decay rates for eigenvalues of integral operators are also among the covered topics.  相似文献

It was conjectured by the first author and Peetre that the higher Laplace–Beltrami operators generate the whole ring of invariant operators on bounded symmetric domains. We give a proof of the conjecture for domains of rank ≤ 6 by using a graph manipulation of K¨ahler curvature tensor. We also compute higher order terms in the asymptotic expansions of the Bergman kernels and the Berezin transform on bounded symmetric domain.  相似文献

This paper deals with conditionally positive definite kernels on Euclidean spaces. The focus here is on dot product kernels, that is, those depending on the inner product of the variables. Among the results, we include some properties relating conditional positive definiteness and standard convolution in the line and also results related to the characterization of the conditionally positive definite dot product kernels with respect to finite-dimensional polynomial spaces. We also introduce and characterize two large classes of strictly conditionally positive definite dot product kernels.  相似文献

We show how conditionally negative definite functions on spheres coupled with strictly completely monotone functions (or functions whose derivative is strictly completely monotone) can be used for Hermite interpolation. The classes of functions thus obtained have the advantage over the strictly positive definite functions studied in [17] that closed form representations (as opposed to series expansions) are readily available. Furthermore, our functions include the historically significant spherical multiquadrics. Numerical results are also presented. Through a double-layer potential argument the inner and outer Poisson kernels, the Cauchy-type conjugate inner and outer Poisson kernels, and the kernels of the Cauchy-type inner and outer Hilbert transformations on the sphere are deduced. We investigate existence and uniqueness of solutions to semilinear parabolic and elliptic equations in bounded domains of the n-dimensional hyperbolic space (n?3). LpLq estimates for the semigroup generated by the Laplace-Beltrami operator are obtained and then used to prove existence and uniqueness results for parabolic problems. Moreover, under proper assumptions on the nonlinear function, we establish uniqueness of positive classical solutions and nonuniqueness of singular solutions of the elliptic problem; furthermore, for the corresponding semilinear parabolic problem, nonuniqueness of weak solutions is stated.  相似文献

This paper characterizes several classes of conditionally positive definite kernels on a domain Ω of either or . Among the classes is that composed of strictly conditionally positive definite kernels. These kernels are known to be useful in the solution of variational interpolation problems on Ω. Our study covers the case in which Ω is the sphere Sl−1 of or a similar manifold. Among other things, our results imply that the characterization of (strict) conditional positive definiteness on Ω can be obtained from a characterization of (strict) positive definiteness on Ω. The bi-zonal strictly conditionally positive definite kernels on Sl−1, l?3, are described.  相似文献

In this paper we study the general localization principle for Fourier-Laplace series on unit sphere SNRN+1. Weak type (1,1) property of maximal functions is used to establish the estimates of the maximal operators of Riesz means at critical index . The properties Jacobi polynomials are used in estimating the maximal operators of spectral expansions in L2(SN). For extending positive results on critical line , 1?p?2, we apply interpolation theorem for the family of the linear operators of weak types. The generalized localization principle is established by the analysis of spectral expansions in L2. We have proved the sufficient conditions for the almost everywhere convergence of Fourier-Laplace series by Riesz means on the critical line.  相似文献

We prove a well-posedness result for two pseudo-parabolic problems, which can be seen as two models for the same electrical conduction phenomenon in heterogeneous media, neglecting the magnetic field. One of the problems is the concentration limit of the other one, when the thickness of the dielectric inclusions goes to zero. The concentrated problem involves a transmission condition through interfaces, which is mediated by a suitable Laplace-Beltrami type equation.  相似文献

We derive a set of differential inequalities for positive definite functions based on previous results derived for positive definite kernels by purely algebraic methods. Our main results show that the global behavior of a smooth positive definite function is, to a large extent, determined solely by the sequence of even-order derivatives at the origin: if a single one of these vanishes then the function is constant; if they are all non-zero and satisfy a natural growth condition, the function is real-analytic and consequently extends holomorphically to a maximal horizontal strip of the complex plane.  相似文献
