Our aim in this paper is to characterize some classes of infinitely divisible distributions on locally compact abelian groups. Firstly infinitely divisible distributions with no idempotent factor on locally compact abelian groups are characterized by means of limit distributions of sums of independent random variables. We introduce semi-selfdecomposable distributions on topological fields, and in case of totally disconnected fields we give a limit theorem for them. We also give a characterization of semistable laws on p-adic field and show that semistable processes are constructed as scaling limits of sums of i.i.d.  相似文献

P.S. numbers are introduced in relation to absolute continuity of some infinite Bernoulli convolutions. Absolute continuity and continuous singularity of some semi-selfdecomposable distributions are studied as marginal distributions of subordinators. It is shown that these properties are widely different according as their spans are P.V. numbers or the reciprocals of P.S. numbers. A simple example of a subordinator whose distribution is continuous singular for small time and absolutely continuous for large time is given. Absolute continuity of convolutions of multidimensional homogeneous self-similar measures are also discussed. Semi-stable distributions, in classical probability theory, are characterized as limiting distributions of subsequences of normalized partial sums of independent and identically distributed random variables. We establish the noncommutative counterpart of semi-stable distributions. We study the characterization of noncommutative semi-stability through free cumulant transform and develop the free semi-stability and domain of semi-stable attraction in free probability theory.  相似文献

Summary. We prove almost sure convergence of a representation of normalized partial sum processes of a sequence of i.i.d. random variables from the domain of attraction of an α-stable law, α<2. We obtain an explicit form of the limit in terms of the LePage series representation of stable laws. One consequence of these results is a conditional invariance principle having applications to option pricing as well as to resampling by signs and permutations. We present a notion of semi-self-decomposability for distributions with support in Z +. We show that discrete semi-self-decomposable distributions are infinitely divisible and are characterized by the absolute monotonicity of a specific function. The class of discrete semi-self-decomposable distributions is shown to contain the discrete semistable distributions and the discrete geometric semistable distributions. We identify a proper subclass of semi-self-decomposable distributions that arise as weak limits of subsequences of binomially thinned sums of independent Z +-valued random variables. Multiple semi-self-decomposability on Z + is also discussed.  相似文献

Moment inequalities and central limit properties of isotropic convex bodies   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6
The object of our investigations are isotropic convex bodies , centred at the origin and normed to volume one, in arbitrary dimensions. We show that a certain subset of these bodies – specified by bounds on the second and fourth moments – is invariant under forming ‘expanded joinsrsquo;. Considering a body K as above as a probability space and taking , we define random variables on K. It is known that for subclasses of isotropic convex bodies satisfying a ‘concentration of mass property’, the distributions of these random variables are close to Gaussian distributions, for high dimensions n and ‘most’ directions . We show that this ‘central limit property’, which is known to hold with respect to convergence in law, is also true with respect to -convergence and -convergence of the corresponding densities. We consider the distributions of the lengths of the longest weakly increasing and strongly decreasing subsequences in words of length N from an alphabet of k letters. (In the limit as k→∞ these become the corresponding distributions for permutations on N letters.) We find Toeplitz determinant representations for the exponential generating functions (on N) of these distribution functions and show that they are expressible in terms of solutions of Painlevé V equations. We show further that in the weakly increasing case the generating unction gives the distribution of the smallest eigenvalue in the k×k Laguerre random matrix ensemble and that the distribution itself has, after centering and normalizing, an N→∞ limit which is equal to the distribution function for the largest eigenvalue in the Gaussian Unitary Ensemble of k×k hermitian matrices of trace zero. We consider various approximations in the central limit theorem for distributions of sums of independent random variables. We study how many summands in the normalized sums guarantee the precision 10−3 for these approximations. It turns out that for the same distribution but different approximations this number varies from hundreds of thousands to a few tens.  相似文献

Hincin characterized the class of infinitely divisible distributions on the line as the class of all distributional limits of sums of infinitesimal independent random variables. We show that an analogue of this characterization is true in the addition theory of free random variables introduced by Voiculescu.

Bolthausen used a variation of Stein’s method to give an inductive proof of the Berry-Esseen theorem for sums of independent, identically distributed random variables. We modify this technique to prove a Berry-Esseen theorem for character ratios of a random representation of the symmetric group on transpositions. An analogous result is proved for Jack measure on partitions. Received March 11, 2005  相似文献

We study limit distributions of independent random matrices as well as limit joint distributions of their blocks under normalized partial traces composed with classical expectation. In particular, we are concerned with the ensemble of symmetric blocks of independent Hermitian random matrices which are asymptotically free, asymptotically free from diagonal deterministic matrices, and whose norms are uniformly bounded almost surely. This class contains symmetric blocks of unitarily invariant Hermitian random matrices whose asymptotic distributions are compactly supported probability measures on the real line. Our approach is based on the concept of matricial freeness which is a generalization of freeness in free probability. We show that the associated matricially free Gaussian operators provide a unified framework for studying the limit distributions of sums and products of independent rectangular random matrices, including non-Hermitian Gaussian matrices and matrices of Wishart type.  相似文献

We investigate precise large deviations for heavy-tailed random sums. We prove a general asymptotic relation in the compound renewal risk model for consistently varying-tailed distributions. This model was introduced in [Q. Tang, C. Su, T. Jiang, and J.S. Zang, Large deviation for heavy-tailed random sums in compound renewal model, Stat. Probab. Lett., 52:91–100, 2001] as a more practical risk model. The proof is based on the inequality found in [D. Fuk and S.V. Nagaev, Probability for sums of independent random variables, Theory Probab. Appl., 16:600–675, 1971].  相似文献

We study some discrete isoperimetric and Poincaré-type inequalities for product probability measures μ n on the discrete cube {0, 1} n and on the lattice Z n . In particular we prove sharp lower estimates for the product measures of boundaries of arbitrary sets in the discrete cube. More generally, we characterize those probability distributions μ on Z which satisfy these inequalities on Z n . The class of these distributions can be described by a certain class of monotone transforms of the two-sided exponential measure. A similar characterization of distributions on R which satisfy Poincaré inequalities on the class of convex functions is proved in terms of variances of suprema of linear processes. Approximating Probability Distributions Using Small Sample Spaces   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
We formulate the notion of a "good approximation" to a probability distribution over a finite abelian group ?. The quality of the approximating distribution is characterized by a parameter ɛ which is a bound on the difference between corresponding Fourier coefficients of the two distributions. It is also required that the sample space of the approximating distribution be of size polynomial in and 1/ɛ. Such approximations are useful in reducing or eliminating the use of randomness in certain randomized algorithms. We demonstrate the existence of such good approximations to arbitrary distributions. In the case of n random variables distributed uniformly and independently over the range , we provide an efficient construction of a good approximation. The approximation constructed has the property that any linear combination of the random variables (modulo d) has essentially the same behavior under the approximating distribution as it does under the uniform distribution over . Our analysis is based on Weil's character sum estimates. We apply this result to the construction of a non-binary linear code where the alphabet symbols appear almost uniformly in each non-zero code-word. In this paper we propose pricing bounds for European-style discrete arithmetic Asian basket options in a Black and Scholes framework. We start from methods used for basket options and Asian options. First, we use the general approach for deriving upper and lower bounds for stop-loss premia of sums of non-independent random variables as in Kaas et al. [Upper and lower bounds for sums of random variables, Insurance Math. Econom. 27 (2000) 151–168] or Dhaene et al. [The concept of comonotonicity in actuarial science and finance: theory, Insurance Math. Econom. 31(1) (2002) 3–33]. We generalize the methods in Deelstra et al. [Pricing of arithmetic basket options by conditioning, Insurance Math. Econom. 34 (2004) 55–57] and Vanmaele et al. [Bounds for the price of discrete sampled arithmetic Asian options, J. Comput. Appl. Math. 185(1) (2006) 51–90]. Afterwards we show how to derive an analytical closed-form expression for a lower bound in the non-comonotonic case. Finally, we derive upper bounds for Asian basket options by applying techniques as in Thompson [Fast narrow bounds on the value of Asian options, Working Paper, University of Cambridge, 1999] and Lord [Partially exact and bounded approximations for arithmetic Asian options, J. Comput. Finance 10 (2) (2006) 1–52]. Numerical results are included and on the basis of our numerical tests, we explain which method we recommend depending on moneyness and time-to-maturity.  相似文献

Summary.   Let X,X 1,X 2,… be a sequence of i.i.d. random vectors taking values in a d-dimensional real linear space ℝ d . Assume that E X=0 and that X is not concentrated in a proper subspace of ℝ d . Let G denote a mean zero Gaussian random vector with the same covariance operator as that of X. We investigate the distributions of non-degenerate quadratic forms ℚ[S N ] of the normalized sums S N =N −1/2(X 1+⋯+X N ) and show that
provided that d≥9 and the fourth moment of X exists. The bound ?(N −1) is optimal and improves, e.g., the well-known bound ?(N d /( d +1)) due to Esseen (1945). The result extends to the case of random vectors taking values in a Hilbert space. Furthermore, we provide explicit bounds for Δ N and for the concentration function of the random variable ℚ[S N ]. Hermite processes are self-similar processes with stationary increments which appear as limits of normalized sums of random variables with long range dependence. The Hermite process of order 1 is fractional Brownian motion and the Hermite process of order 2 is the Rosenblatt process. We consider here the sum of two Hermite processes of orders q≥1q1 and q+1q+1 and of different Hurst parameters. We then study its quadratic variations at different scales. This is akin to a wavelet decomposition. We study both the cases where the Hermite processes are dependent and where they are independent. In the dependent case, we show that the quadratic variation, suitably normalized, converges either to a normal or to a Rosenblatt distribution, whatever the order of the original Hermite processes.  相似文献

Characterizations of the classes of selfdecomposable (semi-selfdecomposable, resp.) by a stochastic integral with respect to Lévy process (semi-Lévy process, resp.) are known. A similar characterization for the Urbanik–Sato nested subclasses of the class of selfdecomposable distributions is also known. In this paper, a characterization of the nested subclasses of the class of semi-selfdecomposable distributions is given in terms of stochastic integral with respect to semi-Lévy process.  相似文献

Summary. We study the almost sure limiting behavior of the smallest maximal increment of partial sums of independent identically distributed random variables for a variety of increment sizes , where is a sequence of integers satisfying , and going to infinity at various rates. Our aim is to obtain universal results on such behavior under little or no assumptions on the underlying distribution function. Received: 30 August 1995 / In revised form: 27 September 1996  相似文献
