In this paper, we investigate the stability and convergence of some fully discrete finite element schemes for solving the acoustic wave equation where a discontinuous Galerkin discretization in space is used. We first review and compare conventional time-stepping methods for solving the acoustic wave equation. We identify their main properties and investigate their relationship. The study includes the Newmark algorithm which has been used extensively in applications. We present a rigorous stability analysis based on the energy method and derive sharp stability results covering some well-known CFL conditions. A convergence analysis is carried out and optimal a priori error estimates are obtained. For sufficiently smooth solutions, we demonstrate that the maximal error in the L 2-norm error over a finite time interval converges optimally as O(h p+1+??t s ), where p denotes the polynomial degree, s=1 or 2, h the mesh size, and ??t the time step.  相似文献

We study convergence properties of a numerical method for convection-diffusion problems with characteristic layers on a layer-adapted mesh. The method couples standard Galerkin with an h-version of the nonsymmetric discontinuous Galerkin finite element method with bilinear elements. In an associated norm, we derive the error estimate as well as the supercloseness result that are uniform in the perturbation parameter. Applying a post-processing operator for the discontinuous Galerkin method, we construct a new numerical solution with enhanced convergence properties.  相似文献

In this article, a new weak Galerkin mixed finite element method is introduced and analyzed for the Helmholtz equation with large wave numbers. The stability and well‐posedness of the method are established for any wave number k without mesh size constraint. Allowing the use of discontinuous approximating functions makes weak Galerkin mixed method highly flexible in term of little restrictions on approximations and meshes. In the weak Galerkin mixed finite element formulation, approximation functions can be piecewise polynomials with different degrees on different elements and meshes can consist elements with different shapes. Suboptimal order error estimates in both discrete H1 and L2 norms are established for the weak Galerkin mixed finite element solutions. Numerical examples are tested to support the theory.  相似文献

We consider the original discontinuous Galerkin method for the first-order hyperbolic problems in d-dimensional space. We show that, when the method uses polynomials of degree k, the L2-error estimate is of order k+1 provided the triangulation is made of rectangular elements satisfying certain conditions. Further, we show the O(h2k+1)-order superconvergence for the error on average on some suitably chosen subdomains (including the whole domain) and their outflow faces. Moreover, we also establish a derivative recovery formula for the approximation of the convection directional derivative which is superconvergent with order k+1.  相似文献

In this paper, a fully discrete local discontinuous Galerkin method for a class of multi-term time fractional diffusion equations is proposed and analyzed. Using local discontinuous Galerkin method in spatial direction and classical L1 approximation in temporal direction, a fully discrete scheme is established. By choosing the numerical flux carefully, we prove that the method is unconditionally stable and convergent with order O(h k+1 + (Δt)2?α ), where k, h, and Δt are the degree of piecewise polynomial, the space, and time step sizes, respectively. Numerical examples are carried out to illustrate the effectiveness of the numerical scheme.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the local discontinuous Galerkin (LDG) finite element method for one-dimensional linear time-fractional Tricomi-type equation (TFTTE), which is obtained from the standard one-dimensional linear Tricomi-type equation by replacing the first-order time derivative with a fractional derivative (of order α, with 1?<?α?≤?2). The proposed LDG is based on LDG finite element method for space and finite difference method for time. We prove that the method is unconditionally stable, and the numerical solution converges to the exact one with order O(h k?+?1?+?τ 2), where h, τ and k are the space step size, time step size, polynomial degree, respectively. The comparison of the LDG results with the exact solutions is made, numerical experiments reveal that the LDG is very effective.  相似文献

We employ a piecewise-constant, discontinuous Galerkin method for the time discretization of a sub-diffusion equation. Denoting the maximum time step by k, we prove an a priori error bound of order k under realistic assumptions on the regularity of the solution. We also show that a spatial discretization using continuous, piecewise-linear finite elements leads to an additional error term of order h 2 max (1,logk  − 1). Some simple numerical examples illustrate this convergence behaviour in practice. We thank the University of New South Wales for financial support provided by a Faculty Research Grant.  相似文献

A discontinuous Galerkin method for the numerical approximation for the time-dependent Maxwell’s equations in “stable medium” with supraconductive boundary, is introduced and analysed. its hp-analysis is carried out and error estimates that are optimal in the meshsize h and slightly suboptimal in the approximation degree p are obtained.  相似文献

We develop the error analysis for the h‐version of the discontinuous Galerkin finite element discretization for variational inequalities of first and second kinds. We establish an a priori error estimate for the method which is of optimal order in a mesh dependant as well as L2‐norm.© 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In polynomial and spline interpolation the k-th derivative of the interpolant, as a function of the mesh size h, typically converges at the rate of O(hd+1−k) as h→0, where d is the degree of the polynomial or spline. In this paper we establish, in the important cases k=1,2, the same convergence rate for a recently proposed family of barycentric rational interpolants based on blending polynomial interpolants of degree d.  相似文献
