This paper contains two results. The first establishes, under mild assumptions, the validity of an Edgeworth expansion with remaindero(N –1/2) for aU-statistic with a kernel of degree two using observations from anm-dependent shift. The second result gives a necessary and sufficient condition for the distribution of a sum ofm-dependent random variables to possess an Edgeworth expansion. This generalizes a result of Bickel and Robinson from the i.i.d. case to them-dependent case.This research was supported in part by National Science Foundation, Grant DMS 89-23071.  相似文献

Withers and Nadarajah (Stat Pap 51:247–257; 2010) gave simple Edgeworth-type expansions for log densities of univariate estimates whose cumulants satisfy standard expansions. Here, we extend the Edgeworth-type expansions for multivariate estimates with coefficients expressed in terms of Bell polynomials. Their advantage over the usual Edgeworth expansion for the density is that the kth term is a polynomial of degree only k + 2, not 3k. Our results are very general, and can be applied to the i.i.d. case, multivariate analysis and time series analysis. In this paper we obtain an asymptotic expansion for the distribution of Hotelling'sT2-statisticT2under nonnormality when the sample size is large. In the derivation we find an explicit Edgeworth expansion of the multivariatet-statistic. Our method is to use the Edgeworth expansion and to expand the characteristic function ofT2.  相似文献

Let W be the sum of dependent random variables, and h(x) be a function. This paper provides an Edgeworth expansion of an arbitrary ``length' for %E{h(W)} in terms of certain characteristics of dependency, and of the smoothness of h and/or the distribution of W. The core of the class of dependency structures for which these characteristics are meaningful is the local dependency, but in fact, the class is essentially wider. The remainder is estimated in terms of Lyapunov's ratios. For each positive integer k, the radix representation of the complex numbers in the base –k+i gives rise to a lattice self-affine tile T k in the plane, which consists of all the complex numbers that can be expressed in the form ∑ j≥1 d j (–k+i)j , where d j ∈{0, 1, 2, ...,k 2}. For the censored simple linear regression model, we establish a oneterm Edgeworth expansion for the Koul, Susarla and Van Ryzin type estimator of the regression coefficient. Our approach is to represent the estimator of the regression coefficient as an asymptoticU-statistic plus some ignorable terms and hence apply the known results on the Edgeworth expansions for asymptoticU-statistic. The counting process and martingale techniques are used to provide the proof of the main results.  相似文献

In this paper, by using Mann's iteration process we will establish several weak convergence theorems for approximating a fixed point of k-strictly pseudocontractive mappings with respect to p in p-uniformly convex Banach spaces. Our results answer partially the open question proposed by Marino and Xu, and extend Reich's theorem from nonexpansive mappings to k-strict pseudocontractive mappings.  相似文献

The main motivation of this paper is to introduce a problem of some combinatorial flavor about finite groups which seems to be new in the literature. Letk>1 be a fixed positive integer and denote byf(k, G) the number of elements of orderk in the groupG. We examine the setF(k)={f(k, G)| G a finite group}/{0}. We give a complete characterization ofF(k) if 4|k ork=6 and show some modest partial results for certain other values ofk. It seems to us that the question is surprisingly difficult even in such simple cases ask=3, which we investigate in detail. We consider the Cauchy problem for a second-order parabolic equation with rapidly oscillating coefficients of the forma(ɛ x,ɛ −2k t) in a perforated space ℝ ɛ n . Using the kernel estimator of the pth quantile of a distribution brings about an improvement in comparison to the sample quantile estimator. The size and order of this improvement is revealed when studying the Edgeworth expansion of the kernel estimator. Using one more term beyond the normal approximation significantly improves the accuracy for small to moderate samples. The investigation is non- standard since the influence function of the resulting L-statistic explicitly depends on the sample size. We obtain the expansion, justify its validity and demonstrate the numerical gains in using it.  相似文献

The relationship between the density of this packing inH and the density ofP is investigated. A result from the theory of uniform distribution of linear forms is used to prove an integral formula that enables one to evaluate the density of the induced packing inH (under suitable assumptions on the sets ofP and the functionals used to define the densities). It is shown that this result leads to explicit formulas for the averages of the induced densities under the rotation ofH. If the densities are taken with respect to the mean cross-sectional measures of convex bodies one obtains analogues of the integral geometric intersection formulas of Crofton.Dedicated to Professor E.
