Summary. We introduce a new algebraic framework to derive discrete absorbing boundary conditions for the wave equation in the one-dimensional case. The idea is to factor directly the discrete wave operator and then use one of the factors as boundary condition. We also analyse the stability of the schemes obtained this way and perform numerical simulations to estimate their practical value. The narrow escape problem consists in deriving the asymptotic expansion of the solution of a drift-diffusion equation with the Dirichlet boundary condition on a small absorbing part of the boundary and the Neumann boundary condition on the remaining reflecting boundaries. Using layer potential techniques, we rigorously find high-order asymptotic expansions of such solutions. The asymptotic formula explicitly exhibits the nonlinear interaction of many small absorbing targets. Based on the asymptotic theory for eigenvalue problems developed in Ammari et al. (2009) [3], we also construct high-order asymptotic formulas for the perturbation of eigenvalues of the Laplace and the drifted Laplace operators for mixed boundary conditions on large and small pieces of the boundary.  相似文献

We proposed absorbing interface conditions for the simulation of linear wave propagation on non-uniform meshes. Based on the superposition principle of second-order linear wave equations, we decompose the interface condition problem into two subproblems around the interface: for the first one the conventional artificial absorbing boundary conditions is applied, while for the second one, the local analytic solutions can be derived. The proposed interface conditions permit a two-way transmission of low-frequency waves across mesh interfaces which can be supported by both coarse and fine meshes, and perform a one-way absorption of high-frequency waves which can only be supported by fine meshes when they travel from fine mesh regions to coarse ones. Numerical examples are presented to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed absorbing interface conditions.  相似文献

Many physical phenomena are modeled by nonclassical hyperbolic boundary value problems with nonlocal boundary conditions. In this paper, the problem of solving the one-dimensional wave equation subject to given initial and non-local boundary conditions is considered. These non-local conditions arise mainly when the data on the boundary cannot be measured directly. Several finite difference methods with low order have been proposed in other papers for the numerical solution of this one dimensional non-classic boundary value problem. Here, we derive a new family of efficient three-level algorithms with higher order to solve the wave equation and also use a Simpson formula with higher order to approximate the integral conditions. Additionally, the fourth-order formula is also adapted to nonlinear equations, in particular to the well-known nonlinear Klein–Gordon equations which many physical problems can be modeled with. Numerical results are presented and are compared with some existing methods showing the efficiency of the new algorithms.  相似文献

The simulation of wave phenomena in unbounded domains generally requires an artificial boundary to truncate the unbounded exterior and limit the computation to a finite region. At the artificial boundary a boundary condition is then needed, which allows the propagating waves to exit the computational domain without spurious reflection. In 1977, Engquist and Majda proposed the first hierarchy of absorbing boundary conditions, which allows a systematic reduction of spurious reflection without moving the artificial boundary farther away from the scatterer. Their pioneering work, which initiated an entire research area, is reviewed here from a modern perspective. Recent developments such as high-order local conditions and their extension to multiple scattering are also presented. Finally, the accuracy of high-order local conditions is demonstrated through numerical experiments.  相似文献

Summary Engquist and Majda [3] proposed a pseudodifferential operator as asymptotically valid absorbing boundary condition for hyperbolic equations. (In the case of the wave equation this boundary condition is valid at all frequencies.) Here, least-squares approximation of the symbol of the pseudodifferential operator is proposed to obtain differential operators as boundary conditions. It is shown that for the wave equation this approach leads to Kreiss well-posed initial boundary value problems and that the expectation of the reflected energy is lower than in the case of Taylor- and Padé-approximations [3, 4]. Numerical examples indicate that this method works even more effectively for hyperbolic systems. The least-squares approach may be used to generate the boundary conditions automatically.  相似文献

In this paper, a new high-order energy-preserving scheme is proposed for the modified Korteweg-de Vries equation. The proposed scheme is constructed by using the Hamiltonian boundary value methods in time, and Fourier pseudospectral method in space. Exploiting this method, we get second-order and fourth-order energy-preserving integrators. The proposed schemes not only have high accuracy, but also exactly conserve the total mass and energy in the discrete level. Finally, single solitary wave and the interaction of two solitary waves are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed schemes.  相似文献

In this article, we study the energy decay rate for an elastic Timoshenko system. This system consists of two coupled wave equations. Only the equation about the rotation angle is damped by one locally distributed feedback at the neighbourhood of the boundary. The equation for the transverse displacement of the beam is only indirectly damped through the coupling. First, we establish an exponential energy decay rate in the case of the same speed of propagation. Next, when the wave speeds are different, a polynomial-type decay rate is obtained. These results are proved by verifying the frequency domain conditions.  相似文献

This paper deals with the energy decay estimates and infinite blow‐up phenomena for a strongly damped semilinear wave equation with logarithmic nonlinear source term under null Dirichlet boundary condition. By constructing a new family of potential wells, together with logarithmic Sobolev inequality and perturbation energy technique, we establish sufficient conditions to guarantee the solution exists globally or occurs infinite blow‐up and derive the polynomial or exponential energy decay estimates under some appropriate conditions.  相似文献

Consider the reconstruction of Dirichlet-to-Neumann map(D-to-N map) from the far-field patterns of the scattered waves in inverse scattering problems, which is the first step in detecting the obstacle boundary by the probe method using far-field measurements corresponding to all incident plane waves. In principle, this problem can be reduced to solving an integral equation of the second kind with the kernels involving the derivatives of the scattered waves for point sources. Based on the mixed reciprocity principle, we propose two simple and feasible numerical schemes for reconstructing D-to-N map. Compared with the well-known obstacle boundary recovering schemes using the simulation of D-to-N map directly, the proposed schemes give the possible ways to realizing the probe methods using practical far-field data, with the advantage of no numerical differentiation for scattered wave in their implementations. We present some numerical examples for the D-to-N map, showing the validity and stability of our schemes.  相似文献

Absorbing boundary conditions have been developed for various types of problems to truncate infinite domains in order to perform computations. But absorbing boundary conditions have a second, recent and important application: parallel computing. We show that absorbing boundary conditions are essential for a good performance of the Schwarz waveform relaxation algorithm applied to the wave equation. In turn this application gives the idea of introducing a layer close to the truncation boundary which leads to a new way of optimizing absorbing boundary conditions for truncating domains. We optimize the conditions in the case of straight boundaries and illustrate our analysis with numerical experiments both for truncating domains and the Schwarz waveform relaxation algorithm.

在弹性波传播的数值模拟中,吸收边界被广泛应用于截取有限空间进行无限空间问题的分析.完全匹配层(perfect matched layer, PML)吸收边界较其他吸收边界条件具有更优越的吸收性能,已被成功应用于直角坐标系下的弹性波方程正演模拟.考虑极坐标系下二阶弹性波动方程,通过采用辅助函数的方法,提出了一种非分裂格式的完全匹配层吸收边界条件.并且基于Galerkin近似技术,给出了非对称以及轴对称条件下的时域有限元计算格式.通过数值算例分析了该极坐标系下分裂格式的完全匹配层吸收边界的有效性.  相似文献

In this paper, the theoretical perfectly absorbing boundary condition on the boundary of a half-space domain is developed for the Maxwell system by considering the system as a whole instead of considering each component of the electromagnetic fields individually. This boundary condition allows any wave motion generated within the domain to pass through the boundary of the domain without generating any reflections back into the interior. By approximating this theoretical boundary condition a class of local absorbing boundary conditions for the Maxwell system can be constructed. Well-posedness in the sense of Kreiss of the Maxwell system with each of these local absorbing boundary conditions is established, and the reflection coefficients are computed as a plane wave strikes the artificial boundary. Numerical experiments are also provided to show the performance of these local absorbing boundary conditions

In this paper we present some new results of symmetry for inhomogeneous Dirichlet eigenvalue problems overdetermined by a condition involving the gradient of the first eigenfunction on the boundary. One specificity of the problem studied is the dependence of the equation and the boundary condition on the distance to the origin. The method of investigation is based on the use of continuous Steiner symmetrization together with some domain derivative tools. A new class of computational far-field boundary conditions for hyperbolic partial differential equations was recently introduced by the authors. These boundary conditions combine properties of absorbing conditions for transient solutions and properties of far-field conditions for steady states.
