ABSTRACT

Investigation of multiplace functions by algebraic methods plays an important role in modern mathematics were we consider various operations on sets of functions, which are naturally defined. The basic operation for functions is superposition (composition), but there are some other naturally defined operations, which are also worth of consideration. For example, the operation of set-theoretic intersection and the operation of projections. In this paper we find an abstract characterization of the set of multiplace functions which are closely related to these three operations.  相似文献

Godambe (1985) introduced a class of optimum estimating functions which can be regarded as a generalization of quasilikelihood score functions. The “optimality” established by Godambe (1985) within a certain class is for estimating functions and it is based on finite samples. The question that arises naturally is what (if any) asymptotic optimality properties do the estimators and tests based on optimum estimating functions possess. In this paper, we establish, via presenting a convolution theorem, asymptotic optimality of estimators and tests obtained from Godambe optimum estimating functions. It is noted that we do not require the knowledge of the likelihood function.  相似文献

We show for a general class of parabolic equations that every bounded superparabolic function is a weak supersolution and, in particular, has derivatives in a Sobolev sense. To this end, we establish various comparison principles between super- and subparabolic functions, and show that a pointwise limit of uniformly bounded weak supersolutions is a weak supersolution.  相似文献

Investigation of partial multiplace functions by algebraic methods plays an important role in modern mathematics, where we consider various operations on sets of functions, which are naturally defined. The basic operation for n -place functions is an (n + 1)-ary superposition [ ], but there are some other naturally defined operations, which are also worth of consideration. In this article we consider binary Mann's compositions ⊕1,…,⊕ n for partial n-place functions, which have many important applications for the study of binary and n-ary operations. We present methods of representations of such algebras by n-place functions and find an abstract characterization of the set of n-place functions closed with respect to the set-theoretic inclusion.

We study a class of infinite horizon and exit-time control problems for nonlinear systems with unbounded data using the dynamic programming approach. We prove local optimality principles for viscosity super- and subsolutions of degenerate Hamilton–Jacobi equations in a very general setting. We apply these results to characterize the (possibly multiple) discontinuous solutions of Dirichlet and free boundary value problems as suitable value functions for the above-mentioned control problems.  相似文献

A well known theórem about super- and subfunctions for the solution of hyperbolic initial value problems constructs differentiable functions as upper and lower bounds (see Walter [1], 21 XIII). The proof can be done by transforming the differential equation problem into a set of integral equations, using the monotonicity-properties of the arising integral operators. This proof needs an integral representation for twice differentiable functions. It is shown that this proceeding can be generalized to get upper and lower bounds in terms of finite element functions. To do this, we give an integral representation for continuous, piecewise differentiable functions, including the discontinuities of their derivatives. Then the generalization of the classical proof yields interface conditions for the finite element functions. Finally, it is demonstrated how to realize numerically these conditions.  相似文献

We introduce a new basis for quasisymmetric functions, which arise from a specialization of nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials to standard bases, also known as Demazure atoms. Our new basis is called the basis of quasisymmetric Schur functions, since the basis elements refine Schur functions in a natural way. We derive expansions for quasisymmetric Schur functions in terms of monomial and fundamental quasisymmetric functions, which give rise to quasisymmetric refinements of Kostka numbers and standard (reverse) tableaux. From here we derive a Pieri rule for quasisymmetric Schur functions that naturally refines the Pieri rule for Schur functions. After surveying combinatorial formulas for Macdonald polynomials, including an expansion of Macdonald polynomials into fundamental quasisymmetric functions, we show how some of our results can be extended to include the t parameter from Hall-Littlewood theory.  相似文献

In this paper, we study composition operators on a Banach space of analytic functions, denoted byX, which includes the Bloch space. This space arises naturally as the dual space of analytic functions in the Bergman spaceL α 1 (D) which admit an atomic decomposition. We characterize the functions which induce compact composition operators and those which induce Fredholm operatorson this space. We also investigate when a composition operator has a closed range. In this paper we construct a flat connection (possibly with torsion) on Lagrangian submanifolds which is connected with formulas for asymptotic wave functions generated by this submanifold. In this paper, we study some new special functions that arise naturally within the framework of Hermitian Clifford analysis, which concerns the study of Dirac‐like systems in several complex variables. In particular, we focus on Hermite polynomials, Bessel functions, and generalized powers. We also derive a Vekua system for solutions of Hermitian systems in axially symmetric domains. In 1985 H. Ishii [Is85] proposed a generalization of the notion of (continuous) viscosity solution for an Hamilton-Jacobi equation with a t-measurable Hamiltonian—that is, a Hamiltonian which is measurable in time and continuous in the other variables. This notion turned out to agree with natural applications, like Control and Differential Games Theory. Since then, several improvements have been achieved for the standard situation when the Hamiltonian is continuous. It is someway an accepted general idea that parallel improvements are likely for t-measurable Hamiltonians as well, though such a job might appear a bit tedious because of the necessarily involved technicalities.In this paper we show that Ishii’s definition of viscosity solution coincides with the one which would arise by extending by density the standard definition. Namely, we regard a t-measurable Hamiltonian H as an element of the closure (for suitable topologies) of a class of continuous Hamiltonians. On the other hand, we show that the set of Ishii’s (sub-, super-) solutions for H is nothing but the limit set of the (sub-, super-) solutions corresponding to continuous Hamiltonians approaching H. This put us in the condition of establishing comparison, existence, and regularity results by deriving them from the analogous results for the case of continuous Hamiltonians.  相似文献

Adapting the method introduced in Graph Minors X, we propose a new proof of the duality between the bramble number of a graph and its tree-width. Our approach is based on a new definition of submodularity on partition functions which naturally extends the usual one on set functions. The proof does not rely on Menger’s theorem, and thus generalises the original one. It thus provides a dual for matroid tree-width. One can also derive all known dual notions of other classical width-parameters from it.  相似文献

The main goal of this paper is to give an affirmative answer to the long-standing conjecture which asserts that the affine map is a uniquely extremal quasiconformal map in the Teichmüller space of the complex plane punctured at the integer lattice points. In addition we derive a corollary related to the geometry of the corresponding Teichmüller space. Besides that we consider the classical dual extremal problem which naturally arises in the tangent space of the Teichmüller space. In particular we prove the uniqueness of Hahn-Banach extension of the associated linear functional given on the Bergman space of the integer lattice domain. Several useful estimates related to the local and global properties of integrable meromorphic functions and the delta functional (see the definition below) are also obtained. These estimates are intended to study the behavior of integrable functions near singularities and they are valid in general settings.

We study certain nearby cycles sheaves on an affine flag manifold which arise naturally in the Beilinson–Gaitsgory deformation of the affine flag manifold to the affine Grassmannian. We study the multiplicity functions we introduced in an earlier paper, which encode the data of the Jordan-Hölder series. We prove the multiplicity functions are polynomials in q, and we give a sharp bound for their degrees. Our results apply as well to the nearby cycles in the p-adic deformation of Laumon–Haines–Ngô, and also to Wakimoto sheaves.  相似文献

For ordinary and iterated Tikhonov regularization of linear ill-posed problems, we propose a parameter choice strategy that leads to optimal (super-) convergence rates for certain linear functionals of the regularized solution. An FFT-based method, introduced by Moulinec and Suquet [1] in 1994, is an effective alternative to conventional Finite Element Method (FEM) for numerical homogenization of periodic media. Here, we summarize the recent variational reformulation and discretizations by Vondřejc et al. [2–6], which are based on conforming Galerkin approximations with trigonometric polynomials as basis functions. This insight, naturally leading to guaranteed bounds on homogenized matrix, opens a wide area of further investigations, which are also briefly discussed here. (© 2014 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
