Smooth stable planes have been introduced in [3]. At every point p of a smooth stable plane the tangent spaces of the lines through p form a compact spread (see the definition in Section 2) on the tangent space thus defining a locally compact topological affine translation plane . We introduce the moduli space of isomorphism classes of compact spreads, . We show that for the topology of is not by constructing a sequence of non-classical spreads in that converges to the classical spread in , where . Moreover, we prove that the isomorphism type of varies continuously with the point p. Finally, we give examples of smooth affine planes which have both classical and non-classical tangent translation planes. (Received 15 April 1999; in revised form 22 October 1999)  相似文献

Existing bounds on the minimum weight d of the dual 7-ary code of a projective plane of order 49 show that this must be in the range 76 ≤ d ≤ 98. We use combinatorial arguments to improve this range to 88 ≤ d ≤ 98, noting that the upper bound can be taken to be 91 if the plane has a Baer subplane, as in the desarguesian case. A brief survey of known results for the minimum weight of the dual codes of finite projective planes is also included. Dedicated to Dan Hughes on the occasion of his 80th birthday.  相似文献

Let II be a translation plane of orderq 3, with kernel GF(q) forq a prime power, that admits a collineation groupG of orderq 3 in the linear translation complement. Moreover, assume thatG fixes a point at infinity, acts transitively on the remaining points at infinity andG/E is an abelian group of orderq 2, whereE is the elation group ofG.In this article, we determined all such translation planes. They are (i) elusive planes of type I or II or (ii) desirable planes.Furthermore, we completely determined the translation planes of orderp 3, forp a prime, admitting a collineation groupG of orderp 3 in the translation complement such thatG fixes a point at infinity and acts transitively on the remaining points at infinity. They are (i) semifield planes of orderp 3 or (ii) the Sherk plane of order 27.  相似文献

We characterise all spreads that are obtainable from Desarguesian spreads by replacing a partial spread consisting of translation ovals; the corresponding ovally-derived planes are generalised André planes, of order 2 N , although not all generalised André planes are ovallyderived from Desarguesian planes. Our analysis allows us to obtain a complete classification of all nearfield planes that are ovally-derived from Desarguesian planes. It turns out that whether or not a nearfield plane is ovally-derived from a Desarguesian plane depends solely on the parametersq andr, where GF (q) is the kern, andr is the dimension of the plane. Our results also imply that a Hall plane of even orderq 2 can be ovally-derived from a Desarguesian spread if and only ifq is a square.  相似文献

We study hypercyclicity and supercyclicity of weighted shifts on ℓ, with respect to the weak * topology. We show that there exist bilateral shifts that are weak * hypercyclic but fail to be weak * sequentially hypercyclic. In the unilateral case, a shift T is weak * hypercyclic if and only if it is weak * sequentially hypercyclic, and this is equivalent to T being either norm, weak, or weak-sequentially hypercyclic on c0 or ℓp (1 ≤ p < ∞). We also show that the set of weak * hypercyclic vectors of any unilateral or bilateral shift on ℓ is norm nowhere dense. Finally, we show that ℓ supports an isometry that is weak * sequentially supercyclic.  相似文献

We obtain nontrivial estimates of character sums over short intervals for almost all moduli. These bounds and the method of Karatsuba for solving multiplicative ternary problems are used to prove that for π(X)(1 + o(1)) primes p,pX, there are p(1 + o(1)) residue classes modulo p of the form xy (mod p), where 1 ≤ x, yp?(log p)1,087. We also prove that for any prime p there are p(1 + o(1)) residue classes modulo p of the form xy* (mod p), where 1 ≤ x, yp?(log p)1+o(1) and y* is defined by yy* ≡ 1 (mod p).  相似文献

The following result is well-known for finite projective spaces. The smallest cardinality of a set of points of PG(n, q) with the property that every s-subspace has a point in the set is (q n+1-s - 1)/(q - 1). We solve in finite projective spaces PG(n, q) the following problem. Given integers s and b with 0 ≤ sn - 1 and 1 ≤ b ≤ (q n+1-s - 1)/(q - 1), what is the smallest number of s-subspaces that must miss a set of b points. If d is the smallest integer such that b ≤ (q d+1 - 1)/(q - 1), then we shall see that the smallest number is obtained only when the b points generate a subspace of dimension d. We then also determine the smallest number of s-subspaces that must miss a set of b points of PG(n, q) which do not lie together in a subspace of dimension d. The results are obtained by geometrical and combinatorial arguments that rely on a strong algebraic result for projective planes by T. Szőnyi and Z. Weiner.  相似文献

We show that the size of the 1-norm condition number of the univariate Bernstein basis for polynomials of degree n is O (2n / √n). This is consistent with known estimates [3], [5] for p = 2 and p = ∞ and leads to asymptotically correct results for the p-norm condition number of the Bernstein basis for any p with 1 ≤ p ≤ ∞.  相似文献

We study the setP X of scalarsp such thatL p is lattice-isomorphically embedded into a given rearrangement invariant (r.i.) function spaceX[0, 1]. Given 0<αβ<∞, we construct a family of Orlicz function spacesX=L F [0, 1], with Boyd indicesα andβ, whose associated setsP X are the closed intervals [γ, β], for everyγ withαγβ. In particular forα>2, this proves the existence of separable 2-convex r.i. function spaces on [0,1] containing isomorphically scales ofL p -spaces for different values ofp. We also show that, in general, the associated setP X is not closed. Similar questions in the setting of Banach spaces with uncountable symmetric basis are also considered. Thus, we construct a family of Orlicz spaces ℓ F (I), with symmetric basis and indices fixed in advance, containing ℓ p (Γ-subspaces for differentp’s and uncountable Λ⊂I. In contrast with the behavior in the countable case (Lindenstrauss and Tzafriri [L-T1]), we show that the set of scalarsp for which ℓ p (Γ) is isomorphic to a subspace of a given Orlicz space ℓ F (I) is not in general closed. In this paper, the spaceD p(Ω) of functions holomorphic on bounded symmetric domain ofC n is defined. We prove thatH p(Ω)⊂D p(Ω) if 0<p≤2, andD p(Ω)⊂H p(Ω) ifp≥2, and both the inclusions are proper. Further, we find that some theorems onH p(Ω) can be extended to a wider classD p(Ω) for 0<p≤2.  相似文献

A new multivariate approximation scheme on R d using scattered translates of the “shifted” surface spline function is developed. The scheme is shown to provide spectral L p -approximation orders with 1 ≤ p ≤ ∞, i.e., approximation orders that depend on the smoothness of the approximands. In addition, it applies to noisy data as well as noiseless data. A numerical example is presented with a comparison between the new scheme and the surface spline interpolation method.  相似文献

Optimal order error estimates in H 1, for the Q 1 isoparametric interpolation were obtained in Acosta and Durán (SIAM J Numer Anal37, 18–36, 1999) for a very general class of degenerate convex quadrilateral elements. In this work we show that the same conlusions are valid in W 1,p for 1≤ p < 3 and we give a counterexample for the case p ≥ 3, showing that the result cannot be generalized for more regular functions. Despite this fact, we show that optimal order error estimates are valid for any p ≥ 1, keeping the interior angles of the element bounded away from 0 and π, independently of the aspect ratio. We also show that the restriction on the maximum angle is sharp for p ≥ 3.  相似文献

We study the approximation of functions of several variables by bilinear forms that are the pairwise products of functions of fewer variables. The order of approximation of Sobolev classesW q r by bilinear forms inL p for 2≤qp≤∞ is found. Translated by N. K. This paper shows that the odd order two-dimensional flag-transitive planes constructed by Kantor-Suetake constitute the same family of planes as those constructed by Baker-Ebert. Moreover, for orders satisfying a modest number theoretical assumption this family consists of all possible such planes of that order. In particular, it is shown that the number of isomorphism classes of (non-Desarguesian) two-dimensional flag-transitive affine planes of order q 2 is precisely (q–1)/2 when q is an odd prime and precisely (q–1)/2e when q=p e is an odd prime power with exponent e that is a power of 2. An enumeration is given in other cases that uses the Möbius inversion formula. This work was partially supported by NSA grant MDA 904-95-H-1013.This work was partially supported by NSA grant MDA 904-94-H-2033.  相似文献

In this paper, the Moufang-Klingenberg plane over a local alternative ring R of dual numbers is studied. It is shown that its collineation group is transitive on quadrangles. It is therefore shown that the coordinatization of these Moufang-Klingenberg planes is independent of the choice of the coordinatization quadrangle. Also, the concept of 6-figures is extended to these Moufang-Klingenberg planes and it is shown that any 6-figure corresponds to only one inversible mR.  相似文献

Given 0<αpβ<∞, we construct Orlicz function spacesL F [0, 1] with Boyd indicesα andβ such thatL p is lattice isomorphic to a sublattice ofL F [0, 1]. Forp>2 this shows the existence of (non-trivial) separable r.i. spaces on [0, 1] containing an isomorphic copy ofL p . The discrete case of Orlicz spaces ℓ F (I) containing an isomorphic copy of ℓ p (Γ) for uncountable sets Γ ⊂I is also considered. Supported in part by DGICYT, grant PB91-0377.  相似文献

This paper contains a study of the structure of the Fréchet space L p , 1< p ≤∞, defined as the intersection of L q [0,1] for q<p, and endowed with the projective topology. The main topics covered are: normable, Schwartz and nuclear subspaces of L p ; construction of uncomplemented copies of ?2 inside L p for p<2; construction of Montel non-Schwartz subspaces; the space L p is primary. For 1 ≤p ≤ ∞ we show that there are no denting points in the unit ball of ℓ(lp). This extends a result recently proved by Grząślewicz and Scherwentke whenp = 2 [GS1]. We also show that for any Banach spaceX and for any measure space (Ω, A, μ), the unit ball of ℓ(L 1 (μ), X) has denting points iffL 1(μ) is finite dimensional and the unit ball ofX has a denting point. We also exhibit other classes of Banach spacesX andY for which the unit ball of ℓ(X, Y) has no denting points. When X* has the extreme point intersection property, we show that all ‘nice’ operators in the unit ball of ℓ(X, Y) are strongly extreme points.  相似文献

We investigate finite translation planes of odd dimension over their kernels in which the translation complement induces on each component l a permutation group whose order is divisible by a p-primitive divisor. Using results of this investigation, we show that rank 3 affine planes of odd dimension over their kernels are either generalized André planes or semi-field planes. A similar result is given for translation planes having a collineation group which is doubly transitive on each affine line; besides the above two possibilities, there is a third possibility; the plane has order 27, the translation complement is doubly transitive on , and SL(2, 13) is contained in the translation complement. We also consider translation planes of odd dimension over their kernels which have a collineation group isomorphic to SL(2, w) with w prime to 5 and the characteristic, and having no affine perspectivity. We show that such planes have order 27, the prime power w=13, and the given group together with the translations forms a doubly transitive collineation group on {ie153-1}. This indicates quite strongly that the Hering translation plane of order 27 is unique with respect to the above properties. Both authors supported in part by NSF Grant No. MCS76-0661 A01.  相似文献

In this paper the structure of subspaces and quotients ofl p N of dimension very close toN is studied, for 1≤p≤∞. In particular, the maximal dimensionk=k(p, m, N) so that an arbitrarym-dimensional subspaceX ofl p N contains a good copy ofl p k , is investigated form=No(N). In several cases the obtained results are sharp.  相似文献
