In this paper we study the spatial behaviour of solutions for the three-phase-lag heat equation on a semi-infinite cylinder. The theory of three-phase-lag heat conduction leads to a hyperbolic partial differential equation with a fourth-order derivative with respect to time. First, we investigate the spatial evolution of solutions of an initial boundary-value problem with zero boundary conditions on the lateral surface of the cylinder. Under a boundedness restriction on the initial data, an energy estimate is obtained. An upper bound for the amplitude term in this estimate in terms of the initial and boundary data is also established. For the case of zero initial conditions, a more explicit estimate is obtained which shows that solutions decay exponentially along certain spatial-time lines. A class of non-standard problems is also considered for which the temperature and its first two time derivatives at a fixed time T0 are assumed proportional to their initial values. These results are relevant in the context of the Saint-Venant Principle for heat conduction problems.  相似文献

In this paper we study the spatial behaviour of solutions of some problems for the dual‐phase‐lag heat equation on a semi‐infinite cylinder. The theory of dual‐phase‐lag heat conduction leads to a hyperbolic partial differential equation with a third derivative with respect to time. First, we investigate the spatial evolution of solutions of an initial boundary‐value problem with zero boundary conditions on the lateral surface of the cylinder. Under a boundedness restriction on the initial data, an energy estimate is obtained. An upper bound for the amplitude term in this estimate in terms of the initial and boundary data is also established. For the case of zero initial conditions, a more explicit estimate is obtained which shows that solutions decay exponentially along certain spatial‐time lines. A class of non‐standard problems is also considered for which the temperature and its first two time derivatives at a fixed time T are assumed proportional to their initial values. We consider boundary value problems for the differential equations Δ2 u + B u = 0 with operator coefficients B corresponding to initial-boundary value problems for the diffusion equation Δ3 upu = t u (p > 0) on a right cylinder with inhomogeneous boundary conditions on the lateral surface of the cylinder with zero boundary conditions on the bases of the cylinder and with zero initial condition. For their solution, we derive specific boundary integral equations in which the space integration is performed only over the lateral surface of the cylinder and the kernels are expressed via the fundamental solution of the two-dimensional heat equation and the Green function of corresponding one-dimensional initial-boundary value problems of diffusion. We prove uniqueness theorems and obtain sufficient existence conditions for such solutions in the class of functions with continuous L 2-norm.  相似文献

Long time existence of regular solutions to the Navier–Stokes equations for velocity and pressure coupled with the heat convection equation for temperature in cylindrical pipe with inflow and outflow is shown. We assume the slip boundary conditions for velocity and the Neumann conditions for temperature. First, an appropriate estimate is shown, and next the existence of solutions is proved by the Leray–Schauder fixed point theorem. The estimate is obtained for a long time, which is possible because L2 norms of derivatives in the direction along the cylinder of the initial velocity, initial temperature and the external force are sufficiently small. In this paper, we will study the lower bounds of the life span (the maximal existence time) of solutions to the initial‐boundary value problems with small initial data and zero Neumann boundary data on exterior domain for one‐dimensional general quasilinear wave equations utt?uxx=b(u,Du)uxx+F(u,Du). Our lower bounds of the life span of solutions in the general case and special case are shorter than that of the initial‐Dirichlet boundary value problem for one‐dimensional general quasilinear wave equations. We clarify that although the lower bounds in this paper are same as that in the case of Robin boundary conditions obtained in the earlier paper, however, the results in this paper are not the trivial generalization of that in the case of Robin boundary conditions because the fundamental Lemmas 2.4, 2.5, 2.6, and 2.7, that is, the priori estimates of solutions to initial‐boundary value problems with Neumann boundary conditions, are established differently, and then the specific estimates in this paper are different from that in the case of Robin boundary conditions. Another motivation for the author to write this paper is to show that the well‐posedness of problem 1.1 is the essential precondition of studying the lower bounds of life span of classical solutions to initial‐boundary value problems for general quasilinear wave equations. The lower bound estimates of life span of classical solutions to initial‐boundary value problems is consistent with the actual physical meaning. Finally, we obtain the sharpness on the lower bound of the life span 1.8 in the general case and 1.10 in the special case. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, upper bounds of the L2-decay rate for the Boussinesq equations are considered.Using the L2 decay rate of solutions for the heat equation, and assuming that the solutions of the Boussinesq equations are smooth,we obtain the upper bounds of L2 decay rate for the smooth solutions and difference between the solutions of the Boussinesq equations and those of the heat system with the same initial data. The decay results may then be obtained by passing to the limit of approximating sequences of solutions. The main tool is the Fourier splitting method.  相似文献

Here we consider initial boundary value problems for the heat equation by using the heat potential representation for the solution. Depending on the choice of the representation we are led to a solution of the various boundary integral equations. We discuss the solvability of these equations in anisotropic Sobolev spaces. It turns out that the double-layer heat potential D and its spatial adjoint D′ have smoothing properties similar to the single-layer heat operator. This yields compactness of the operators D and D′. In addition, for any constant c ≠ 0, cI + D′ and cI + D′ are isomorphisms. Based on the coercivity of the single-layer heat operator and the above compactness we establish the coerciveness of the hypersingular heat operator. Moreover, we show an equivalence between the weak solution and the various boundary integral solutions. As a further application we describe a coupling procedure for an exterior initial boundary value problem for the non-homogeneous heat equation.  相似文献

The initial boundary value problem for linear elastodynamic system for viscoporous materials is considered. Exponential decay of solutions via the linear boundary feedback is established. Existence of solutions is obtained through the method of c0‐semigroups. Exponential stabilization is derived via a proper collection of ideas of observability inequality, energy identity and c0‐semigroup of contractions. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We study the asymptotic behavior at infinity of the solutions of a nonlinear elliptic system posed in a cylinder of infinite length. The problem is written in a variational formulation, where we ask the derivative of the solutions to be in Lp. We show that an exponential decay at infinity for the second member implies exponential decay for the derivative of the solutions. We also give an application of this result to the study of boundary layers problems.  相似文献

The Maxwell-Cattaneo system of equations for generalized heat conduction is considered where the temperature and heat flux, respectively, are subject to auxiliary conditions which prescribe a combination of their values initially and at a later time. By means of differential inequalities, L2 exponential decay bounds for the temperature and heat flux are determined in terms of data for a range of values of the parameter in the nonstandard auxiliary condition. Decay bounds are also obtained in two related problems.  相似文献

We consider solutions of the initial-Neumann problem for the heat equation on bounded Lipschitz domains in ℝ N and classify the solutions whose spatial level surfaces are invariant with respect to the time variable. (Of course, the values of each solution on its spatial level surfaces vary with time.) The prototype of such classification is a result of Alessandrini, which proved a conjecture of Klamkin. He considered the initial-Dirichlet problem for the heat equation on bounded domains and showed that if all the spatial level surfaces of the solution are invariant with respect to the time variable under the homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition, then either the initial data is an eigenfunction or the domain is a ball and the solution is radially symmetric with respect to the space variable. His proof is restricted to the initial-Dirichlet problem for the heat equation. In the present paper, in order to deal with the initial-Neumann problem, we overcome this obstruction by using the invariance condition of spatial level surfaces more intensively with the help of the classification theorem ofisoparametric hypersurfaces in Euclidean space of Levi-Civita and Segre. Furthermore, we can deal with nonlinear diffusion equations, such as the porous medium equation.  相似文献

Our aim in this paper is to study a generalization of the Caginalp phase-field system based on the Maxwell-Cattaneo law for heat conduction and endowed with Neumann boundary conditions. In particular, we obtain well-posedness results and study the dissipativity of the associated solution operators. We also prove, when the enthalpy is conserved, the existence of the global attractor. We finally study the spatial behavior of solutions in a semi-infinite cylinder, assuming that such solutions exist and have a proper (spatial) decay at infinity.  相似文献

In this paper, we first consider the Cauchy problem for quasilinear strictly hyperbolic systems with weak linear degeneracy. The existence of global classical solutions for small and decay initial data was established in (Commun. Partial Differential Equations 1994; 19 :1263–1317; Nonlinear Anal. 1997; 28 :1299–1322; Chin. Ann. Math. 2004; 25B :37–56). We give a new, very simple proof of this result and also give a sharp point‐wise decay estimate of the solution. Then, we consider the mixed initial‐boundary‐value problem for quasilinear hyperbolic systems with nonlinear boundary conditions in the first quadrant. Under the assumption that the positive eigenvalues are weakly linearly degenerate, the global existence of classical solution with small and decay initial and boundary data was established in (Discrete Continuous Dynamical Systems 2005; 12 (1):59–78; Zhou and Yang, in press). We also give a simple proof of this result as well as a sharp point‐wise decay estimate of the solution. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A rate of rational decay is obtained for smooth solutions of a PDE model, which has been used in the literature to describe structural acoustic flows. This structural acoustics model is composed of two distinct PDE systems: (i) a wave equation, to model the interior acoustic flow within the given cavity Ω and (ii) a structurally damped elastic equation, to describe time‐evolving displacements along the flexible portion Γ0 of the cavity walls. Moreover, the extent of damping in this elastic component is quantified by parameter η∈[0,1]. The coupling between these two distinct dynamics occurs across the boundary interface Γ0. Our main result is the derivation of uniform decay rates for classical solutions of this particular structural acoustic PDE, decay rates that are obtained without incorporating any additional boundary dissipative feedback mechanisms. In particular, in the case that full Kelvin–Voight damping is present in fourth‐order elastic dynamics, that is, the structural acoustics system as it appears in the literature, solutions that correspond to smooth initial data decay at a rate of . By way of deriving these stability results, necessary a priori inequalities for a certain static structural acoustics PDE model are generated here; these inequalities ultimately allow for an application of a recently derived resolvent criterion for rational decay. In the present paper, we study energy decay and exact boundary controllability for a system of n one-dimensional linear wave equations coupled in parallel. The control obtained is a square integrable of the Neuman type for initial data with finite energy. The controllability time is near optimal value. We treat the case of control in the whole boundary and also in part of it.  相似文献

In this paper, we prove the global existence of smooth solutions to the three‐dimensional incompressible magnetohydrodynamical system with initial data close enough to the equilibrium state, (e3,0). Compared with previous works by Lin, Xu, and Zhang and by Xu and Zhang, here we present a new Lagrangian formulation of the system, which is a damped wave equation and which is nondegenerate only in the direction of the initial magnetic field. Furthermore, we remove the admissible condition on the initial magnetic field, which was required in the earlier works. By using the Frobenius theorem and anisotropic Littlewood‐Paley theory for the Lagrangian formulation of the system, we achieve the global L1‐in‐time Lipschitz estimate of the velocity field, which allows us to conclude the global existence of solutions to this system. In the case when the initial magnetic field is a constant vector, the large‐time decay rate of the solution is also obtained.© 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

Decay bounds are derived for the solution of a heat conduction problem in a semi-infinite cylinder when the lateral surface is held at zero temperature, a nonzero temperature is prescribed on the finite base, and the temperature at time T is prescribed to be a constant multiple of the temperature at initial time. Both energy and pointwise decay bounds are computed for a range of values of the constant multiple. Such problems were originally introduced as a means of stabilizing the backward-in-time problem for the heat equation.  相似文献

This paper employs the weighted energy method to derive estimates for the dynamic behavior of solutions to boundary and initial boundary value problems with nonhomogeneous boundary conditions. In particular, the method is applied to the heat and Laplace equations in a bounded or unbounded region. Extensions to related equations are also studied. Similar estimates but for the spatial behavior is obtained for the heat equation and the backward in time heat equation. Results for blow-up in finite time of solutions to certain nonlinear equations are generalized to include nonhomogeneous boundary conditions, while solutions that vanish on part of the boundary are briefly discussed in the final section.  相似文献
