We study the standing periodic waves in the semidiscrete integrable system modeled by the Ablowitz–Ladik (AL) equation. We have related the stability spectrum to the Lax spectrum by separating the variables and by finding the characteristic polynomial for the standing periodic waves. We have also obtained rogue waves on the background of the modulationally unstable standing periodic waves by using the end points of spectral bands and the corresponding eigenfunctions. The magnification factors for the rogue waves have been computed analytically and compared with their continuous counterparts. The main novelty of this work is that we explore a nonstandard linear Lax system, which is different from the standard Lax representation of the AL equation.  相似文献

In this paper, we prove existence, symmetry and uniqueness of standing waves for a coupled Gross–Pitaevskii equations modeling component Bose–Einstein condensates BEC with an internal atomic Josephson junction. We will then address the orbital stability of these standing waves and characterize their orbit.  相似文献

We study standing wave solutions to nonlinear Schrödinger equations, on a manifold with a rotational symmetry, which transform in a natural fashion under the group of rotations. We call these vortex solutions. They are higher dimensional versions of vortex standing waves that have been studied on the Euclidean plane. We focus on two types of vortex solutions, which we call spherical vortices and axial vortices.  相似文献

The development of nonlinear waves on the free surface of a heavy liquid initially at rest is treated analytically in cases where the external pressure force of limited power is distributed over a large area in the free surface but is otherwise arbitrary. In [1] approximate (up to small terms of higher order) solution of the problem is obtained in the form of functional series. In the present article the convergence theorems for the series are proved. When the pressure varies with time sinusoidally, the sums of the series are found in closed form. By passing to the limit in the solution as time goes to infinity, the form of the nonlinear steady-state wave is found. According to the solution, when the steady-state wave gets away from the variable pressure zone, a long chain of structures develops similar to so called Kelvin-Helmholtz billows. The existence of nonlinear standing waves is discovered, which have a finite number of nodes in the free surface infinite in extent, and the frequency spectrum and the form of these waves are found explicitly.  相似文献

We study the existence and stability of standing waves for the periodic cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a point defect determined by the periodic Dirac distribution at the origin. We show that this model admits a smooth curve of periodic‐peak standing wave solutions with a profile determined by the Jacobi elliptic function of cnoidal type. Via a perturbation method and continuation argument, we obtain that in the repulsive defect, the cnoidal‐peak standing wave solutions are unstable in $H^1_{per}$ with respect to perturbations which have the same period as the wave itself. Global well‐posedness is verified for the Cauchy problem in $H^1_{per}$ .  相似文献

This paper deals with the standing waves for a class of coupled nonlinear Klein-Gordon equations with space dimension N ≥ 3, 0 〈 p, q 〈 2/N-2 and p + q 〈 4/N. By using the variational calculus and scaling argument, we establish the existence of standing waves with ground state, discuss the behavior of standing waves as a function of the frequency ω and give the sufficient conditions of the stability of the standing waves with the least energy for the equations under study.  相似文献

We consider the Isobe-Kakinuma model for two-dimensional water waves in the case of a flat bottom. The Isobe-Kakinuma model is a system of Euler-Lagrange equations for a Lagrangian approximating Luke's Lagrangian for water waves. We show theoretically the existence of a family of small amplitude solitary wave solutions to the Isobe-Kakinuma model in the long wave regime. Numerical analysis for large amplitude solitary wave solutions is also provided and suggests the existence of a solitary wave of extreme form with a sharp crest.  相似文献

We formulate and discuss the shallow water limit dynamics of the layered flow with three layers of immiscible fluids of different densities bounded above and below by horizontal walls. We obtain a resulting system of four equations, which may be nonlocal in the non‐Boussinesq case. We provide a systematic way to pass to the Boussinesq limit, and then study those equations, which are first‐order PDEs of mixed type, more carefully. We show that in a symmetric case the solutions remain on an invariant surface and using simple waves we illustrate that this is not the case for nonsymmetric cases. Reduced models consisting of systems of two equations are also proposed and compared to the full system.  相似文献

We consider the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a harmonic potential in the presence of two combined energy-subcritical power nonlinearities. We assume that the larger power is defocusing, and the smaller power is focusing. Such a framework includes physical models, and ensures that finite energy solutions are global in time. We address the questions of the existence and the orbital stability of the set of standing waves. Given the mathematical features of the equation (external potential and inhomogeneous nonlinearity), the set of parameters for which standing waves exist in unclear. In the two-dimensional case, we adapt the method of fundamental frequency solutions, introduced by the second author in the higher-dimensional case without potential. This makes it possible to describe accurately the set of fundamental frequency standing waves and ground states, and to prove its orbital stability.  相似文献

The classical derivation of the radiation stress tensor, for progressive and standing waves, in one dimension, due to Longuet-Higgins and Stewart is generalized to apply to any two-dimensional pattern of waves, standing or progressive, which can be described by a complex velocity potential.  相似文献

In this work, we solve the Euler's equations for periodic waves traveling under a sheet of ice. These waves are referred to as flexural‐gravity waves. We compare and contrast two models for the effect of the ice: a linear model and a nonlinear model. The benefit of this reformulation is that it facilitates the asymptotic analysis. We use it to derive the nonlinear Schrödinger equation that describes the modulational instability of periodic traveling waves. We compare this asymptotic result with the numerical computation of stability using the Fourier–Floquet–Hill method to show they agree qualitatively. We show that different models have different stability regimes for large values of the flexural rigidity parameter. Numerical computations are also used to analyze high‐frequency instabilities in addition to the modulational instability. In the regions examined, these are shown to be the same regardless of the model representing ice.  相似文献

§ 1.Introduction Consider the nonlinear ODE with two parametersut+ g(u,λ,α) =0 (1 .1 )and its steady-state equationg(u,λ,α) =0 , (1 .2 )where g:U× R2 → U is a sufficiently smooth nonlinear mapping,and U a finitedimensional Hilbertspace.We remark thatitis easy to generalize ourresults to the casewhere g:U×R2→ V and U and V are infinite dimensional Hilbert spaces.So(1 .1 ) canbe e.g. a PDE. We assume that g is O(2 ) symmetric (equivalent,commutable) ,thatisγg(u,λ,α) =g(γu,…  相似文献

We consider propagation of electromagnetic waves in magnetic dipole and gravitational fields proceeding in accordance with the nonlinear vacuum electrodynamics laws. We derive formulas describing the effect of nonlinear electrodynamic lensing of electromagnetic waves in the magnetic dipole field. We show that rotation of the magnetic dipole moment about an axis noncoincident with this moment leads to a nonlinear electrodynamic modulation of the electromagnetic radiation intensity by frequencies that are multiples of the dipole rotation frequency. __________ Translated from Teoreticheskaya i Matematicheskaya Fizika, Vol. 150, No. 1, pp. 85–94, January, 2007.  相似文献

A third-order analytical solution for the gravity–capillary standing wave is derived in Lagrangian coordinates through the Lindstedt–Poincare perturbation method. By numerical computation, the dynamical properties of nonlinear standing waves with surface tension in finite water depth, including particle trajectory and surface profile are investigated. We find that the presence of surface tension leads to a change of the crest form. Moreover, we also find that the particle trajectories near the surface oscillate back and forth along the arcs which will change from concave to convex as the inverse Bond number increases. There is no mass transport of the particles in a wave period.  相似文献

We study the linear stability of traveling wave solutions for the nonlinear wave equation and coupled nonlinear wave equations. It is shown that periodic waves of the dnoidal type are spectrally unstable with respect to co-periodic perturbations. Our arguments rely on a careful spectral analysis of various self-adjoint operators, both scalar and matrix and on instability index count theory for Hamiltonian systems.  相似文献

Propagation of nonlinear shear horizontal (SH) waves in a homogeneous, isotropic and incompressible elastic plate of uniform thickness is considered. The constituent material of the plate is assumed to be generalized neo-Hookean. By employing a perturbation method and balancing the weak nonlinearity and dispersion in the analysis, it is shown that the nonlinear modulation of waves is governed asymptotically by a nonlinear Schr?dinger (NLS) equation. Then the effect of nonlinearity on the propagation characteristics of asymptotic waves is discussed on the basis of this equation. It is found that, irrespective of the plate thickness, the wave number and the mode number, when the plate material is softening in shear then the nonlinear plane periodic waves are unstable under infinitesimal perturbations and therefore the bright (envelope) solitary SH waves will exist and propagate in such a plate. But if the plate material is hardening in shear in this case nonlinear plane periodic waves are stable and only the dark solitary SH waves may exist.  相似文献
