We study the nil groups in the algebraic K-theory of the group ring of a virtually cyclic group. We prove these vanish in low degrees and mention some consequences in case the Farrell–Jones Isomorphism conjecture is valid.  相似文献

We discuss an analogon to the Farrell-Jones Conjecture for homotopy algebraic K-theory. In particular, we prove that if a group G acts on a tree and all isotropy groups satisfy this conjecture, then G satisfies this conjecture. This result can be used to get rational injectivity results for the assembly map in the Farrell-Jones Conjecture in algebraic K-theory.  相似文献

Using a recent result of Bartels and Lück (The Borel conjecture for hyperbolic and CAT(0)-groups (preprint) \({{\tt arXiv:0901.0442v1}}\)) we deduce that the Farrell–Jones Fibered Isomorphism conjecture in \({L^{\langle -\infty \rangle}}\)-theory is true for any group which contains a finite index strongly poly-free normal subgroup, in particular, for the Artin full braid groups. As a consequence we explicitly compute the surgery groups of the Artin pure braid groups. This is obtained as a corollary to a computation of the surgery groups of a more general class of groups, namely for the fundamental group of the complement of any fiber-type hyperplane arrangement in \({{\mathbb C}^n}\).  相似文献

This is the first of three articles on the Fibered Isomorphism Conjecture of Farrell and Jones for L-theory. Here we prove the conjecture for several well-known classes of groups. In fact we consider a general class of groups satisfying certain conditions which includes the above classes of groups.  相似文献

We introduce the Farrell-Jones Conjecture with coefficients in an additive category with G-action. This is a variant of the Farrell-Jones Conjecture about the algebraic K- or L-theory of a group ring RG. It allows to treat twisted group rings and crossed product rings. The conjecture with coefficients is stronger than the original conjecture but it has better inheritance properties. Since known proofs using controlled algebra carry over to the set-up with coefficients we obtain new results about the original Farrell-Jones Conjecture. The conjecture with coefficients implies the fibered version of the Farrell-Jones Conjecture.  相似文献

F.T. Farrell and L.E. Jones conjectured in [7] that Algebraic K-theory of virtually cyclic subgroups V should constitute `building blocks' for the Algebraic K-theory of an arbitrary group G. In [6], they obtained some results on lower K-theory of V. In this paper, we obtain results on higher K-theory of virtually infinite cyclic groups V in the two cases: (i) when V admits an epimorphism (with finite kernel) to the infinite cyclic group (see 2.1 and 2.2(a),(b)) and (ii) when V admits an epimorphism (with finite kernel) to the infinite dihedral group (see 3.1, 3.2, 3.3). Following the introduction of an algebraic K-theory of special groups in [Dickmann and Miraglia, Algebra Colloq. 10 (2003) 149-176], generalizing Milnor's mod 2 K-theory for fields, the aim of this paper is to compute the K-theory of Boolean algebras, inductive limits, finite products, extensions, SG-sums and (finitely) filtered Boolean powers of special groups. A parallel theme is the preservation by these constructions of property [SMC], an analog for the K-theory of special groups of the property “multiplication by l(-1) is injective” in Milnor's mod 2 K-theory (see [Milnor, Invent. Math. 9 (1970) 318-344]).  相似文献

The Isomorphism Conjecture is a conceptional approach towards a calculation of the algebraic K-theory of a group ring , where Γ is an infinite group. In this paper we prove the conjecture in dimensions n<2 for fundamental groups of closed Riemannian manifolds with strictly negative sectional curvature and arbitrary coefficient rings R. If R is regular this leads to a concrete calculation of low dimensional K-theory groups of in terms of the K-theory of R and the homology of the group.  相似文献

Odd K-theory has the interesting property that it admits an infinite number of inequivalent differential refinements. In this paper we provide a bundle theoretic model for odd differential K-theory using the caloron correspondence and prove that this refinement is unique up to a unique natural isomorphism. We characterise the odd Chern character and its transgression form in terms of a connection and Higgs field and discuss some applications. Our model can be seen as the odd counterpart to the Simons–Sullivan construction of even differential K-theory. We use this model to prove a conjecture of Tradler–Wilson–Zeinalian [16], which states that the model developed there also defines the unique differential extension of odd K-theory.  相似文献

We study the behavior of the Nil-subgroups of K-groups under localization. As a consequence of our results, we obtain that the relative assembly map from the family of finite subgroups to the family of virtually cyclic subgroups is rationally an isomorphism. Combined with the equivariant Chern character, we obtain a complete computation of the rationalized source of the K-theoretic assembly map that appears in the Farrell-Jones conjecture in terms of group homology and the K-groups of finite cyclic subgroups.Specifically we prove that under mild assumptions we can always write the Nil-groups and End-groups of the localized ring as a certain colimit over the Nil-groups and End-groups of the ring, generalizing a result of Vorst. We define Frobenius and Verschiebung operations on certain Nil-groups. These operations provide the tool to prove that Nil-groups are modules over the ring of Witt-vectors and are either trivial or not finitely generated as Abelian groups. Combining the localization results with the Witt-vector module structure, we obtain that Nil and localization at an appropriate multiplicatively closed set S commute, i.e. . An important corollary is that the Nil-groups appearing in the decomposition of the K-groups of virtually cyclic groups are torsion groups.  相似文献

We settle two conjectures for computing higher Grothendieck–Witt groups (also known as Hermitian K-groups) of noetherian schemes X, under some mild conditions. It is shown that the comparison map from the Hermitian K-theory of X to the homotopy fixed points of K  -theory under the natural Z/2Z/2-action is a 2-adic equivalence. We also prove that the mod 2ν2ν comparison map between the Hermitian K-theory of X and its étale version is an isomorphism on homotopy groups in the same range as for the Quillen–Lichtenbaum conjecture in K-theory. Applications compute higher Grothendieck–Witt groups of complex algebraic varieties and rings of 2-integers in number fields, and hence values of Dedekind zeta-functions.  相似文献

We show that the oriented Chow groups of Barge–Morel appear in the E 2-term of the coniveau spectral sequence for Hermitian K-theory. This includes a localization theorem and the Gersten conjecture (over infinite base fields) for Hermitian K-theory. We also discuss the conjectural relationship between oriented and higher oriented Chow groups and Levine’s homotopy coniveau spectral sequence when applied to Hermitian K-theory.  相似文献

Let C be a small category and k a field. There are two interesting mathematical subjects: the category algebra kC and the classifying space |C|=BC. We study the ring homomorphism HH(kC)→H(|C|,k) and prove it is split surjective, using the factorization category of Quillen [D. Quillen, Higher algebraic K-theory I, in: Lecture Notes in Math., vol. 341, Springer-Verlag, Berlin, 1973, pp. 85-147] and certain techniques from functor cohomology theory. This generalizes the well-known theorems for groups and posets. Based on this result, we construct a seven-dimensional category algebra whose Hochschild cohomology ring modulo nilpotents is not finitely generated, disproving a conjecture of Snashall and Solberg [N. Snashall, Ø. Solberg, Support varieties and Hochschild cohomology rings, Proc. London Math. Soc. 88 (3) (2004) 705-732].  相似文献

The Dirac operator plays a fundamental role in the geometric construction of the discrete series for semisimple Lie groups. We show that, at the level of K-theory, the Dirac operator also plays a central role in connection with the principal series for complex connected semisimple Lie groups. This proves the Connes-Kasparov conjecture for such groups.  相似文献

An algebraic variety defined over the real numbers has an associated topological space with involution, and algebraic vector bundles give rise to Real vector bundles. We show that the associated map from algebraic K-theory to Atiyah's Real K-theory is, after completion at two, an isomorphism on homotopy groups above the dimension of the variety.  相似文献

We prove the additivity theorem for the K-theory of triangulated derivators. This solves one of the conjectures made by Maltsiniotis in [G. Maltsiniotis, La K-théorie d'un dérivateur triangulé, in: Alexei Davydov, Michael Batanin, Michael Johnson, Stephen Lack, Amnon Neeman (Eds.), Categories in Algebra, Geometry and Physics, Conference and Workshop in honor of Ross Street's 60th Birthday, in: Contemp. Math., vol. 431, Amer. Math. Soc., 2007, pp. 341-368]. We also review some basic definitions and results in the theory of derivators in the sense of Grothendieck.  相似文献

The cycling operation is a special kind of conjugation that can be applied to elements in Artin’s braid groups, in order to reduce their length. It is a key ingredient of the usual solutions to the conjugacy problem in braid groups. In their seminal paper on braid-cryptography, Ko, Lee et al. proposed the cycling problem as a hard problem in braid groups that could be interesting for cryptography. In this paper we give a polynomial solution to that problem, mainly by showing that cycling is surjective, and using a result by Maffre which shows that pre-images under cycling can be computed fast. This result also holds in every Artin-Tits group of spherical type, endowed with the Artin Garside structure. On the other hand, the conjugacy search problem in braid groups is usually solved by computing some finite sets called (left) ultra summit sets (left-USSs), using left normal forms of braids. But one can equally use right normal forms and compute right-USSs. Hard instances of the conjugacy search problem correspond to elements having big (left and right) USSs. One may think that even if some element has a big left-USS, it could possibly have a small right-USS. We show that this is not the case in the important particular case of rigid braids. More precisely, we show that the left-USS and the right-USS of a given rigid braid determine isomorphic graphs, with the arrows reversed, the isomorphism being defined using iterated cycling. We conjecture that the same is true for every element, not necessarily rigid, in braid groups and Artin-Tits groups of spherical type.  相似文献

Smooth K-functors are constructed on the category of locally convex real (resp. complex) algebras. The Karoubi's conjecture for the smooth K-theory on the isomorphism of algebraic and smooth K-functors is confirmed on the category of real (resp. complex) quasi-stable Fréchet algebras.
