We investigate the equivariant cohomology of the natural torus action on a K-contact manifold and its relation to the topology of the Reeb flow. Using the contact moment map, we show that the equivariant cohomology of this action is Cohen–Macaulay, the natural substitute of equivariant formality for torus actions without fixed points. As a consequence, generic components of the contact moment map are perfect Morse-Bott functions for the basic cohomology of the orbit foliation ${{\mathcal F}}$ of the Reeb flow. Assuming that the closed Reeb orbits are isolated, we show that the basic cohomology of ${{\mathcal F}}$ vanishes in odd degrees, and that its dimension equals the number of closed Reeb orbits. We characterize K-contact manifolds with minimal number of closed Reeb orbits as real cohomology spheres. We also prove a GKM-type theorem for K-contact manifolds which allows to calculate the equivariant cohomology algebra under the nonisolated GKM condition.  相似文献

A new method for localization of algebro-topological invariants of smooth manifolds via equivariant tangent vector fields is presented. Main realizations of direct image constructions (the Gysin map and the BeckerGottlieb transfer map) are calculated for Grassmannizations of complex vector bundles and for a complex-oriented cohomology theory. In 2006 Masuda and Suh asked if two compact non-singular toric varieties having isomorphic cohomology rings are homeomorphic. In the first part of this paper we discuss this question for topological generalizations of toric varieties, so-called torus manifolds. For example we show that there are homotopy equivalent torus manifolds which are not homeomorphic. Moreover, we characterize those groups which appear as the fundamental groups of locally standard torus manifolds. In the second part we give a classification of quasitoric manifolds and certain six-dimensional torus manifolds up to equivariant diffeomorphism. In the third part we enumerate the number of conjugacy classes of tori in the diffeomorphism group of torus manifolds. For torus manifolds of dimension greater than six there are always infinitely many conjugacy classes. We give examples which show that this does not hold for six-dimensional torus manifolds.  相似文献

We consider simply connected compact Kähler manifolds which have a holomorphic action of a torus group. We use the existing equivariant models for rational homotopy to show that these spaces satisfy an equivariant formality condition over the complex numbers.  相似文献

We show that the well-known fact that the equivariant cohomology (with real coefficients) of a torus action is a torsion-free module if and only if the map induced by the inclusion of the fixed point set is injective generalises to actions of arbitrary compact connected Lie groups if one replaces the fixed point set by the set of points with isotropy rank equal to the rank of the acting group. This is true essentially because the action on this set is always equivariantly formal. In case this set is empty we show that the induced action on the set of points with highest occuring isotropy rank is Cohen-Macaulay. It turns out that just as equivariant formality of an action is equivalent to equivariant formality of the action of a maximal torus, the same holds true for equivariant injectivity and the Cohen-Macaulay property. In addition, we find a topological criterion for equivariant injectivity in terms of orbit spaces.  相似文献

For several important classes of manifolds acted on by the torus, the information about the action can be encoded combinatorially by a regular n-valent graph with vector labels on its edges, which we refer to as the torus graph. By analogy with the GKM-graphs, we introduce the notion of equivariant cohomology of a torus graph, and show that it is isomorphic to the face ring of the associated simplicial poset. This extends a series of previous results on the equivariant cohomology of torus manifolds. As a primary combinatorial application, we show that a simplicial poset is Cohen-Macaulay if its face ring is Cohen-Macaulay. This completes the algebraic characterisation of Cohen-Macaulay posets initiated by Stanley. We also study blow-ups of torus graphs and manifolds from both the algebraic and the topological points of view.  相似文献

The equivariant cohomology of a space with a group action is not only a ring but also an algebra over the cohomology ring of the classifying space of the acting group. We prove that toric manifolds (i.e. compact smooth toric varieties) are isomorphic as varieties if and only if their equivariant cohomology algebras are weakly isomorphic. We also prove that quasitoric manifolds, which can be thought of as a topological counterpart to toric manifolds, are equivariantly homeomorphic if and only if their equivariant cohomology algebras are isomorphic.  相似文献

Using an idea of Witten (see [8]), we give a localization formula in equivariant cohomology in the case of an Hamiltonian torus action on a compact symplectic manifold χ. The integral over χ of an equivariant closed form can be written as an integral over the submanifold of critical points of the square of the moment map.  相似文献

We introduce the notion of a local torus action modeled on the standard representation (for simplicity, we call it a local torus action). It is a generalization of a locally standard torus action and also an underlying structure of a locally toric Lagrangian fibration. For a local torus action, we define two invariants called a characteristic pair and an Euler class of the orbit map, and prove that local torus actions are classified topologically by them. As a corollary, we obtain a topological classification of locally standard torus actions, which includes the topological classifications of quasi-toric manifolds by Davis and Januszkiewicz and of effective T2-actions on four-dimensional manifolds without nontrivial finite stabilizers by Orlik and Raymond. We discuss locally toric Lagrangian fibrations from the viewpoint of local torus actions. We also investigate the topology of a manifold equipped with a local torus action when the Euler class of the orbit map vanishes.  相似文献

We establish an equivariant generalization of the Novikov inequalities which allows us to estimate the topology of the set of critical points of a closed basic invariant form by means of twisted equivariant cohomology of the manifold. We apply these inequalities to study cohomology of the fixed points set of a symplectic torus action. We show that in this case our inequalities are perfect, i.e. they are in fact equalities.  相似文献

Comparing to the construction of stringy cohomology ring of equivariant stable almost complex manifolds and its relation with the Chen-Ruan cohomology ring of the quotient almost complex orbifolds, the authors construct in this note a Chen-Ruan cohomology ring for a stable almost complex orbifold. The authors show that for a finite group G and a G-equivariant stable almost complex manifold X, the G-invariant part of the stringy cohomology ring of (X, G) is isomorphic to the Chen-Ruan cohomology ring of the global quotient stable almost complex orbifold [X/G]. Similar result holds when G is a torus and the action is locally free. Moreover, for a compact presentable stable almost complex orbifold, they study the stringy orbifold K-theory and its relation with Chen-Ruan cohomology ring.  相似文献

We introduce equivariant twisted cohomology of a simplicial set equipped with simplicial action of a discrete group and prove that for suitable twisting function induced from a given equivariant local coefficients, the simplicial version of Bredon-Illman cohomology with local coefficients is isomorphic to equivariant twisted cohomology. The main aim of this paper is to prove a classification theorem for equivariant simplicial cohomology with local coefficients.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop a method of localization in equivariant cohomology based on the notion of partition of unity cohomology. We apply this method in two cases. In the first case, this method gives a refinement of the localization of Atiyah–Bott and Berline–Vergne (in the frame given by Bismut). After, we consider the Hamiltonian action of a torus, and we realise, following the idea of Witten, the localization on the critical points of the square of the moment map.  相似文献

We investigate what information on the orbit type stratification of a torus action on a compact space is contained in its rational equivariant cohomology algebra. Regarding the (labelled) poset structure of the stratification, we show that equivariant cohomology encodes the subposet of ramified elements. For equivariantly formal actions, we also examine what cohomological information of the stratification is encoded. In the smooth setting, we show that under certain conditions—which in particular hold for a compact orientable manifold with discrete fixed point set—the equivariant cohomologies of the strata are encoded in the equivariant cohomology of the manifold.

Let G be a compact torus acting on a compact symplectic manifold M in a Hamiltonian fashion, and T a subtorus of G. We prove that the kernel of is generated by a small number of classes satisfying very explicit restriction properties. Our main tool is the equivariant Kirwan map, a natural map from the G-equivariant cohomology of M to the G/T-equivariant cohomology of the symplectic reduction of M by T . We show this map is surjective. This is an equivariant version of the well-known result that the (nonequivariant) Kirwan map is surjective. We also compute the kernel of the equivariant Kirwan map, generalizing the result due to Tolman and Weitsman [TW] in the case T = G and allowing us to apply their methods inductively. This result is new even in the case that dim T = 1. We close with a worked example: the cohomology ring of the product of two , quotiented by the diagonal 2-torus action. Suppose that G is a compact Lie group, M and N are orientable, free G-manifolds and f : M → N is an equivariant map. We show that the degree of f satisfies a formula involving data given by the classifying maps of the orbit spaces M/G and N/G. In particular, if the generator of the top dimensional cohomology of M/G with integer coefficients is in the image of the cohomology map induced by the classifying map for M, then the degree is one. The condition that the map be equivariant can be relaxed: it is enough to require that it be “nearly equivariant”, up to a positive constant. We will also discuss the G-average construction and show that the requirement that the map be equivariant can be replaced by a somewhat weaker condition involving the average of the map. These results are applied to maps into real, complex and quaternionic Stiefel manifolds. In particular, we show that a nearly equivariant map of a complex or quaternionic Stiefel manifold into itself has degree one. Dedicated to the memory of Jean Leray  相似文献

We construct a new equivariant cohomology theory for a certain class of differential vertex algebras, which we call the chiral equivariant cohomology. A principal example of a differential vertex algebra in this class is the chiral de Rham complex of Malikov-Schechtman-Vaintrob of a manifold with a group action. The main idea in this paper is to synthesize the algebraic approach to classical equivariant cohomology due to H. Cartan,2 with the theory of differential vertex algebras, by using an appropriate notion of invariant theory. We also construct the vertex algebra analogues of the Mathai-Quillen isomorphism, the Weil and the Cartan models for equivariant cohomology, and the Chern-Weil map. We give interesting cohomology classes in the new theory that have no classical analogues.  相似文献

We give new weighted decompositions for simple polytopes, generalizing previous results of Lawrence-Varchenko and Brianchon-Gram. We start with Witten's non-abelian localization principle in equivariant cohomology for the norm-square of the moment map in the context of toric varieties to obtain a decomposition for Delzant polytopes. Then, by a purely combinatorial argument, we show that this formula holds for any simple polytope. As an application, we study Euler-Maclaurin formulas.  相似文献

We present a new geometric interpretation of equivariant cohomology in which one replaces a smooth, complex G-variety X by its associated arc space J X, with its induced G-action. This not only allows us to obtain geometric classes in equivariant cohomology of arbitrarily high degree, but also provides more flexibility for equivariantly deforming classes and geometrically interpreting multiplication in the equivariant cohomology ring. Under appropriate hypotheses, we obtain explicit bijections between $ \mathbb{Z} $ -bases for the equivariant cohomology rings of smooth varieties related by an equivariant, proper birational map. We also show that self-intersection classes can be represented as classes of contact loci, under certain restrictions on singularities of subvarieties. We give several applications. Motivated by the relation between self-intersection and contact loci, we define higher-order equivariant multiplicities, generalizing the equivariant multiplicities of Brion and Rossmann; these are shown to be local singularity invariants, and computed in some cases. We also present geometric $ \mathbb{Z} $ -bases for the equivariant cohomology rings of a smooth toric variety (with respect to the dense torus) and a partial flag variety (with respect to the general linear group).  相似文献
