Given a metric continuum X, let X2 denote the hyperspace of all nonempty closed subsets of X. For each positive integer k let Ck(X) stand for the hyperspace of members of X2 having at most k components. Consider mappings (where BCm(X)) and both defined by A?AB. We give necessary and sufficient conditions under which these mappings are deformation retractions (under a special convention for φB). The conditions are related to the contractibility of the corresponding hyperspaces.  相似文献

Given a dendroid X, an open selection is an open map such that s(A)∈A for every AC(X). We show that a smooth fan X admits an open selection if and only if X is locally connected.  相似文献

Let X be a metric continuum and C(X) the hyperspace of all nonempty subcontinua of X. Let AC(X), A is said to make a hole in C(X), if C(X)−{A} is not unicoherent. In this paper we study the following problem.Problem: For which AC(X), A makes a hole in C(X).In this paper we present some partial solutions to this problem in the following cases: (1) A is a free arc; (2) A is a one-point set; (3) A is a free simple closed curve; (4) A=X.  相似文献

The aim of the paper is to generalize the notion of the Haar integral. For a compact semigroup S acting continuously on a Hausdorff compact space Ω, the algebra A(S)⊂C(Ω,R) of S-invariant functions and the linear space M(S) of S-invariant (real-valued) finite signed measures are considered. It is shown that if S has a left and right invariant measure, then the dual space of A(S) is isometrically lattice-isomorphic to M(S) and that there exists a unique linear operator (called the Haar integral) such that for each fA(S) and for any fC(Ω,R) and sS, , where .  相似文献

Let Mn(R) be the linear space of all n×n matrices over the real field R. For any AMn(R), let ρ(A) and ‖A denote the spectral radius and the infinity norm of A, respectively. By introducing a class of transformations φa on Mn(R), we show that, for any AMn(R), ρ(A)<‖A if . If AMn(R) is nonnegative, we prove that ρ(A)<‖A if and only if , and ρ(A)=‖A if and only if the transformation φA preserves the spectral radius and the infinity norm of A. As an application, we investigate a class of linear discrete dynamic systems in the form of X(k+1)=AX(k). The asymptotical stability of the zero solution of the system is established by a simple algebraic method.  相似文献

Let be a surjective continuous map between compact Hausdorff spaces. The map π induces, by composition, an injective morphism C(Y)→C(X) between the corresponding rings of real-valued continuous functions, and this morphism allows us to consider C(Y) as a subring of C(X). This paper deals with algebraic properties of the ring extension C(Y)⊆C(X) in relation to topological properties of the map . We prove that if the extension C(Y)⊆C(X) has a primitive element, i.e., C(X)=C(Y)[f], then it is a finite extension and, consequently, the map π is locally injective. Moreover, for each primitive element f we consider the ideal and prove that, for a connected space Y, If is a principal ideal if and only if is a trivial covering.  相似文献

Let X be a completely regular Hausdorff space, E Hausdorff a quasi-complete locally convex space and Cb(X,E) all E-valued bounded continuous functions on X with strict topologies βt, , . We prove that a linear continuous mapping T:Cb(X,E)→E arises from a scalar measure μ∈(Cb(X),βz)(z=t,∞,τ) if and only if g(T(f))=0 whenever gf=0 for any fCb(X,E), gE.  相似文献

Let H0(X) (H(X)) denote the set of all (nonempty) closed subsets of X endowed with the Vietoris topology. A basic problem concerning H(X) is to characterize those X for which H(X) is countably compact. We conjecture that u-compactness of X for some uω (or equivalently: all powers of X are countably compact) may be such a characterization. We give some results that point into this direction. We define the property R(κ): for every family of closed subsets of X separated by pairwise disjoint open sets and any family of natural numbers, the product is countably compact, and prove that if H(X) is countably compact for a T2-space X then X satisfies R(κ) for all κ. A space has R(1) iff all its finite powers are countably compact, so this generalizes a theorem of J. Ginsburg: if X is T2 and H(X) is countably compact, then so is Xn for all n<ω. We also prove that, for κ<t, if the T3 space X satisfies a weak form of R(κ), the orbit of every point in X is dense, and X contains κ pairwise disjoint open sets, then Xκ is countably compact. This generalizes the following theorem of J. Cao, T. Nogura, and A. Tomita: if X is T3, homogeneous, and H(X) is countably compact, then so is Xω.Then we study the Frolík sum (also called “one-point countable-compactification”) of a family . We use the Frolík sum to produce countably compact spaces with additional properties (like first countability) whose hyperspaces are not countably compact. We also prove that any product α<κH0(Xα) embeds into .  相似文献

In this paper, we establish some minimax theorems, of purely topological nature, that, through the variational methods, can be usefully applied to nonlinear differential equations. Here is a (simplified) sample: Let X be a Hausdorff topological space, IR an interval and . Assume that the function Ψ(x,⋅) is lower semicontinuous and quasi-concave in I for all xX, while the function Ψ(⋅,q) has compact sublevel sets and one local minimum at most for each q in a dense subset of I. Then, one has

The notion of a modular is introduced as follows. A (metric) modular on a set X is a function w:(0,X×X→[0,] satisfying, for all x,y,zX, the following three properties: x=y if and only if w(λ,x,y)=0 for all λ>0; w(λ,x,y)=w(λ,y,x) for all λ>0; w(λ+μ,x,y)≤w(λ,x,z)+w(μ,y,z) for all λ,μ>0. We show that, given x0X, the set Xw={xX:limλw(λ,x,x0)=0} is a metric space with metric , called a modular space. The modular w is said to be convex if (λ,x,y)?λw(λ,x,y) is also a modular on X. In this case Xw coincides with the set of all xX such that w(λ,x,x0)< for some λ=λ(x)>0 and is metrizable by . Moreover, if or , then ; otherwise, the reverse inequalities hold. We develop the theory of metric spaces, generated by modulars, and extend the results by H. Nakano, J. Musielak, W. Orlicz, Ph. Turpin and others for modulars on linear spaces.  相似文献

For AB(X), BB(Y) and CB(Y,X), let MC be the operator defined on XY by . In this paper, we study defect set (Σ(A)∪Σ(B))?Σ(MC), where Σ is the Browder spectrum, the essential approximate point spectrum and Browder essential approximate point spectrum. We then give application for Weyl's and Browder's theorems.  相似文献

We construct, assuming the continuum hypothesis, an example of nonmetrizable n-dimensional Cantor manifold Xn(nN) with the following properties: 1) is hereditarily separable for all kN; 2) is perfectly normal for every kN; 3) the space F(Xn) is hereditarily normal for every seminormal functor F that preserves weights and one-to-one points and such that sp(F)={1,k}; in particular, and λ3Xn are hereditarily normal. This example is a generalization of famous Gruenhage's example given in Gruenhage and Nyikos (1993) [4].  相似文献

Let (X,μ) be a measurable topological space. Let S1,S2,… be a family of finite subsets of X. Suppose each xSi has a weight wixR+ assigned to it. We say {Si} is {wi}-distributed with respect to the measure μ if for any continuous function f on X, we have .Let S(N,k) be the space of modular cusp forms over Γ0(N) of weight k and let be a basis which consists of Hecke eigenforms. Let ar(h) be the rth Fourier coefficient of h. Let xph be the eigenvalue of h relative to the normalized Hecke operator Tp. Let ||·|| be the Petersson norm on S(N,k). In this paper we will show that for any even integer k?3, is -distributed with respect to a polynomial times the Sato-Tate measure when N→∞.  相似文献
