In the paper, two evolutionary approaches to the general DNA sequencing problem, assuming both negative and positive errors in the spectrum, are compared. The older of them is based on the idea of genetic approach and is enhanced by a greedy algorithm. The newly proposed algorithm combines the tabu search and the scatter search methods. After conducting experiments with random and coding DNA sequences, our results suggest that the tabu and scatter search algorithm finds solutions of higher quality and more reliably than the genetic algorithm.  相似文献

Optimising a train schedule on a single line track is known to be NP-Hard with respect to the number of conflicts in the schedule. This makes it difficult to determine optimum solutions to real life problems in reasonable time and raises the need for good heuristic techniques. The heuristics applied and compared in this paper are a local search heuristic with an improved neighbourhood structure, genetic algorithms, tabu search and two hybrid algorithms. When no time constraints are enforced on solution time, the genetic and hybrid algorithms were within five percent of the optimal solution for at least ninety percent of the test problems.  相似文献

In recent years, there has been a great deal of interest in metaheuristics in the optimization community. Tabu Search (TS) represents a popular class of metaheuristics. However, compared with other metaheuristics like genetic algorithm and simulated annealing, contributions of TS that deals with continuous problems are still very limited. In this paper, we introduce a continuous TS called Directed Tabu Search (DTS) method. In the DTS method, direct-search-based strategies are used to direct a tabu search. These strategies are based on the well-known Nelder–Mead method and a new pattern search procedure called adaptive pattern search. Moreover, we introduce a new tabu list conception with anti-cycling rules called Tabu Regions and Semi-Tabu Regions. In addition, Diversification and Intensification Search schemes are employed. Numerical results show that the proposed method is promising and produces high quality solutions.  相似文献

In the p-Median Problem, it is assumed that, once the facilities are opened, they may not fail. In practice some of the facilities may become unavailable due to several factors. In the Reliability p-Median Problem some of the facilities may not be operative during certain periods. The objective now is to find facility locations that are both inexpensive and also reliable. We present different configurations of two hybrid metaheuristics to solve the problem, a genetic algorithm and a scatter search approach. We have carried out an extensive computational experiment to study the performance of the algorithms and compare its efficiency solving well-known benchmark instances.  相似文献

禁忌搜索算法是一种元启发式的全局优化算法,是局部搜索算法的一种推广,已被成功地应用于许多组合优化问题中。本文针对有界闭区域上的连续函数全局优化问题,提出了一种改进的禁忌搜索算法,并进行了理论分析和数值实验。数值实验表明,对于连续函数全局优化问题的求解该算法是可行有效的,并且结构简单,迭代次数较少,是一种较好的全局启发式优化算法。  相似文献

They have had widespread successes in attacking a variety of difficult combinatorial optimization problems that arise in many practical areas. This bibliography provides a classification of a comprehensive list of 1380 references on the theory and application of metaheuristics. Metaheuristics include but are not limited to constraint logic programming; greedy random adaptive search procedures; natural evolutionary computation; neural networks; non-monotonic search strategies; space-search methods; simulated annealing; tabu search; threshold algorithms and their hybrids. In this paper we use a scatter search framework to solve the vehicle routing problem with time windows (VRPTW). Our objective is to achieve effective solutions and to investigate the effects of reference set design parameters pertaining to size, quality and diversity. Both a common arc method and an optimization-based set covering model are used to combine vehicle routing solutions. A reactive tabu search metaheuristic and a tabu search with an advanced recovery feature, together with a set covering procedure are used for solution improvement. Our approach led to a robust solution method, generating solution quality that is competitive with the current best metaheuristics.  相似文献

This paper presents a multiobjective hybrid metaheuristic approach for an intelligent spatial zoning model in order to draw territory line for geographical or spatial zone for the purpose of space control. The model employs a Geographic Information System (GIS) and uses multiobjective combinatorial optimization techniques as its components. The proposed hybrid metaheuristic consists of the symbiosis between tabu search and scatter search method and it is used heuristically to generate non-dominated alternatives. The approach works with a set of current solution, which through manipulation of weights are optimized towards the non-dominated frontier while at the same time, seek to disperse over the frontier by a strategic oscillation concept. The general procedure and its algorithms are given as well as its implementation in the GIS environment. The computation has resulted in tremendous improvements in spatial zoning.  相似文献

Flexibility has become an important priority in the formulation and implementation of manufacturing strategies. This in turn has opened up a new class of design problems for such systems. Flexible assembly systems (FAS), consisting of a variety of processors and operations, provide the opportunity for improving product manufacturing flexibility, hence gaining competitive advantages. This paper considers a particular design decision problem for FAS. A matrix-based, polynomial-time lower bound algorithm is presented. Simulated annealing and tabu search metaheuristics are formulated to address the problems. Computational experience with these metaheuristics is reported.  相似文献

In this work we present a review and comparative evaluation of heuristics and metaheuristics for the well-known permutation flowshop problem with the makespan criterion. A number of reviews and evaluations have already been proposed. However, the evaluations do not include the latest heuristics available and there is still no comparison of metaheuristics. Furthermore, since no common benchmarks and computing platforms are used, the results cannot be generalised. We propose a comparison of 25 methods, ranging from the classical Johnson's algorithm or dispatching rules to the most recent metaheuristics, including tabu search, simulated annealing, genetic algorithms, iterated local search and hybrid techniques. For the evaluation we use the standard test of Taillard [Eur. J. Operation. Res. 64 (1993) 278] composed of 120 instances of different sizes. In the evaluations we use the experimental design approach to obtain valid conclusions on the effectiveness and efficiency of the different methods tested.  相似文献

This paper deals with two main problems in forest harvesting. The first is that of selecting the locations for the machinery to haul logs from the points where they are felled to the roadside. The second consists in designing the access road network connecting the existing road network with the points where machinery is installed. Their combination induces a very important and difficult problem to solve in forest harvesting. It can be formulated as a combination of two difficult optimization problems: a plant location problem and a fixed charge network flow problem. In this paper, we propose a solution approach based on tabu search. The proposed heuristic includes several enhancements of the basic tabu search framework. The main difficulty lies in evaluating neighboring solutions, which involves decisions related to location of machinery and to road network arcs. Hence, the neighborhood is more complex than in typical applications of metaheuristics. Minimum spanning tree algorithms and Steiner tree heuristics are used to deal with this problem. Numerical results indicate that the heuristic approach is very attractive and leads to better solutions than those provided by state-of-the-art integer programming codes in limited computation times, with solution times significantly smaller. The numerical results do not vary too much when typical parameters such as the tabu tenure are modified, except for the dimension of neighborhood.  相似文献

Local search techniques are widely used to obtain approximate solutions to a variety of combinatorial optimization problems. Two important categories of local search methods are neighbourhood search and genetic algorithms. Commonly used neighbourhood search methods include descent, threshold accepting, simulated annealing and tabu search. In this paper, we present a computational study that compares these four neighbourhood search methods, a genetic algorithm, and a hybrid method in which descent is incorporated into the genetic algorithm. The performance of these six local search methods is evaluated on the problem of scheduling jobs in a permutation flow shop to minimize the total weighted completion time. Based on the results of extensive computational tests, simulated annealing is found to generate better quality solutions than the other neighborhood search methods. However, the results also indicate that the hybrid genetic descent algorithm is superior to simulated annealing.  相似文献

We propose a hybrid heuristic procedure based on scatter search and tabu search for the problem of clustering objects to optimize multiple criteria. Our goal is to search for good approximations of the efficient frontier for this class of problems and provide a means for improving decision making in multiple application areas. Our procedure can be viewed as an extension of SSPMO (a scatter search application to nonlinear multiobjective optimization) to which we add new elements and strategies specially suited for combinatorial optimization problems. Clustering problems have been the subject of numerous studies; however, most of the work has focused on single-objective problems. Clustering using multiple criteria and/or multiple data sources has received limited attention in the operational research literature. Our scatter tabu search implementation is general and tackles several problems classes within this area of combinatorial data analysis. We conduct extensive experimentation to show that our method is capable of delivering good approximations of the efficient frontier for improved analysis and decision making.  相似文献

We propose a new metaheuristic, FRACTOP, for global optimization. FRACTOP is based on the geometric partitioning of the feasible region so that search metaheuristics such as Simulated Annealing (SA), or Genetic Algorithms (GA) which are activated in smaller subregions, have increased reliability in locating the global optimum. FRACTOP is able to incorporate any search heuristic devised for global optimization. The main contribution of FRACTOP is that it provides an intelligent guidance (through fuzzy measures) in locating the subregion containing the global optimum solution for the search heuristics imbedded in it. By executing the search in nonoverlapping subregions, FRACTOP eliminates the repetitive visits of the search heuristics to the same local area and furthermore, it becomes amenable for parallel processing. As FRACTOP conducts the search deeper into smaller subregions, many unpromising subregions are discarded from the feasible region. Thus, the initial feasible region gains a fractal structure with many space gaps which economizes on computation time. Computational experiments with FRACTOP indicate that the metaheuristic improves significantly the results obtained by random search (RS), SA and GA.  相似文献

Scatter search is an evolutionary method that, unlike genetic algorithms, operates on a small set of solutions and makes only limited use of randomization as a proxy for diversification when searching for a globally optimal solution. The scatter search framework is flexible, allowing the development of alternative implementations with varying degrees of sophistication. In this paper, we test the merit of several scatter search designs in the context of global optimization of multimodal functions. We compare these designs among themselves and choose one to compare against a well-known genetic algorithm that has been specifically developed for this class of problems. The testing is performed on a set of benchmark multimodal functions with known global minima.  相似文献

This paper examines the application of genetic algorithm, tabu search and simulated annealing metaheuristic approaches to finding the cardinality constrained efficient frontier that arises in financial portfolio optimisation. We consider the mean-variance model of Markowitz as extended to include the discrete restrictions of buy-in thresholds and cardinality constraints. Computational results are reported for publicly available data sets drawn from seven major market indices involving up to 1318 assets. Our results are compared with previous results given in the literature illustrating the effectiveness of the proposed metaheuristics in terms of solution quality and computation time.  相似文献

Based on the analysis of the basic schemes of a variety of population-based metaheuristics (PBMH), the main components of PBMH are described with functional relationships in this paper and a unified framework (UF) is proposed for PBMH to provide a comprehensive way of viewing PBMH and to help understand the essential philosophy of PBMH from a systematic standpoint. The relevance of the proposed UF and some typical PBMH methods is illustrated, including particle swarm optimization, differential evolution, scatter search, ant colony optimization, genetic algorithm, evolutionary programming, and evolution strategies, which can be viewed as the instances of the UF. In addition, as a platform to develop the new population-based metaheuristics, the UF is further explained to provide some designing issues for effective/efficient PBMH algorithms. Subsequently, the UF is extended, namely UFmeme to describe the Memetic Algorithms (MAs) by adding local search (memetic component) to the framework as an extra-feature. Finally, we theoretically analyze the asymptotic convergence properties of PBMH described by the UF and MAs by the UFmeme.  相似文献

This paper formulates tabu search strategies that guide generalized hill climbing (GHC) algorithms for addressing NP-hard discrete optimization problems. The resulting framework, termed tabu guided generalized hill climbing (TG2HC) algorithms, uses a tabu release parameter that probabilistically accepts solutions currently on the tabu list. TG2HC algorithms are modeled as a set of stationary Markov chains, where the tabu list is fixed for each outer loop iteration. This framework provides practitioners with guidelines for developing tabu search strategies to use in conjunction with GHC algorithms that preserve some of the algorithms known performance properties. In particular, sufficient conditions are obtained that indicate how to design iterations of problem-specific tabu search strategies, where the stationary distributions associated with each of these iterations converge to the distribution with zero weight on all non-optimal solutions.  相似文献

Some genetic algorithms are considered for the graph coloring problem. As is the case for other combinatorial optimization problems, pure genetic algorithms are outperformed by neighborhood search heuristic procedures such as tabu search. Nevertheless, we examine the performance of several hybrid schemes that can obtain solutions of excellent quality. For some graphs, we illustrate that genetic operators can fulfill long-term strategic functions for a tabu search implementation that is chiefly founded on short-term memory strategies.  相似文献

Genetic algorithm (GA) is well-known for its effectiveness in global search and optimization. To balance selection pressure and population diversity is an important issue of designing GA. This paper proposes a novel hybridization of GA and tabu search (TS) to address this issue. The proposed method embeds the key elements of TS—tabu restriction and aspiration criterion—into the survival selection operator of GA. More specifically, the tabu restriction is used to prevent inbreeding for diversity maintenance, and the aspiration criterion is activated to provide moderate selection pressure under the tabu restriction. The interaction of tabu restriction and aspiration criterion enables survivor selection to balance selection pressure and population diversity. The experimental results on numerical and combinatorial optimization problems show that this hybridization can significantly improve GAs in terms of solution quality as well as convergence speed. An empirical analysis further identifies the influences of the TS strategies on the performance of this hybrid GA.  相似文献
