Let be a Minkowski 3-space of Randers type with , where is the Euclidean metric and . We consider minimal surfaces in and prove that if a connected surface M in is minimal with respect to both the Busemann–Hausdorff volume form and the Holmes–Thompson volume form, then up to a parallel translation of , M is either a piece of plane or a piece of helicoid which is generated by lines screwing about the x 3-axis.   相似文献

Let A be an elliptic operator on a compact manifold with boundary , and let be a covering map, where Y is a closed manifold. Let A C be a realization of A subject to a coupling condition C that is elliptic with parameter in the sector Λ. By a coupling condition we mean a nonlocal boundary condition that respects the covering structure of the boundary. We prove that the resolvent trace for N sufficiently large has a complete asymptotic expansion as . In particular, the heat trace has a complete asymptotic expansion as , and the -function has a meromorphic extension to .   相似文献

For finitely generated groups G and H, we prove that there is a weak equivalence G H (G × H) of ku-algebra spectra, where denotes the “unitary deformation K-theory” functor. Additionally, we give spectral sequences for computing the homotopy groups of G and HG in terms of connective K-theory and homology of spaces of G-representations.  相似文献

We study hypersurfaces in Euclidean space whose position vector x satisfies the condition L k x = Ax + b, where L k is the linearized operator of the (k + 1)th mean curvature of the hypersurface for a fixed , is a constant matrix and is a constant vector. For every k, we prove that the only hypersurfaces satisfying that condition are hypersurfaces with zero (k + 1)th mean curvature and open pieces of round hyperspheres and generalized right spherical cylinders of the form , with . This extends a previous classification for hypersurfaces in satisfying , where is the Laplacian operator of the hypersurface, given independently by Hasanis and Vlachos [J. Austral. Math. Soc. Ser. A 53, 377–384 (1991) and Chen and Petrovic [Bull. Austral. Math. Soc. 44, 117–129 (1991)].   相似文献

A singular riemannian foliation on a complete riemannian manifold M is said to admit sections if each regular point of M is contained in a complete totally geodesic immersed submanifold Σ that meets every leaf of orthogonally and whose dimension is the codimension of the regular leaves of . We prove that the algebra of basic forms of M relative to is isomorphic to the algebra of those differential forms on Σ that are invariant under the generalized Weyl pseudogroup of Σ. This extends a result of Michor for polar actions. It follows from this result that the algebra of basic function is finitely generated if the sections are compact. We also prove that the leaves of coincide with the level sets of a transnormal map (generalization of isoparametric map) if M is simply connected, the sections are flat and the leaves of are compact. This result extends previous results due to Carter and West, Terng, and Heintze, Liu and Olmos. Marcos M. Alexandrino and Claudio Gorodski have been partially supported by FAPESP and CNPq.  相似文献

Let K be a Lie group and P be a K-principal bundle on a manifold M. Suppose given furthermore a central extension of K. It is a classical question whether there exists a -principal bundle on M such that . Neeb (Commun. Algebra 34:991–1041, 2006) defines in this context a crossed module of topological Lie algebras whose cohomology class is an obstruction to the existence of . In the present article, we show that is up to torsion a full obstruction for this problem, and we clarify its relation to crossed modules of Lie algebroids and Lie groupoids, and finally to gerbes.   相似文献

Let Ω be a domain in , d ≥ 2, and 1 < p < ∞. Fix . Consider the functional Q and its Gateaux derivative Q′ given by If Q ≥ 0 on, then either there is a positive continuous function W such that for all, or there is a sequence and a function v > 0 satisfying Q′ (v) = 0, such that Q(u k ) → 0, and in . In the latter case, v is (up to a multiplicative constant) the unique positive supersolution of the equation Q′ (u) = 0 in Ω, and one has for Q an inequality of Poincaré type: there exists a positive continuous function W such that for every satisfying there exists a constant C > 0 such that . As a consequence, we prove positivity properties for the quasilinear operator Q′ that are known to hold for general subcritical resp. critical second-order linear elliptic operators.  相似文献

Let NM be a finite Jones’ index inclusion of II1 factors and denote by U N U M their unitary groups. In this article, we study the homogeneous space U M /U N , which is a (infinite dimensional) differentiable manifold, diffeomorphic to the orbit of the Jones projection of the inclusion. We endow with a Riemannian metric, by means of the trace on each tangent space. These are pre-Hilbert spaces (the tangent spaces are not complete); therefore, is a weak Riemannian manifold. We show that enjoys certain properties similar to classic Hilbert–Riemann manifolds. Among them are metric completeness of the geodesic distance, uniqueness of geodesics of the Levi-Civita connection as minimal curves, and partial results on the existence of minimal geodesics. For instance, around each point p 1 of , there is a ball (of uniform radius r) of the usual norm of M, such that any point p 2 in the ball is joined to p 1 by a unique geodesic, which is shorter than any other piecewise smooth curve lying inside this ball. We also give an intrinsic (algebraic) characterization of the directions of degeneracy of the submanifold inclusion , where the last set denotes the Grassmann manifold of the von Neumann algebra generated by M and .   相似文献

Let and denote the complexifications of Heisenberg hypersurfaces in and , respectively. We show that non-degenerate holomorphic Segre mappings from into with possess a partial rigidity property. As an application, we prove that the holomorphic Segre non-transversality for a holomorphic Segre map from into with propagates along Segre varieties. We also give an example showing that this propagation property of holomorphic Segre transversality fails when N > 2n − 2.  相似文献

Laguerre geometry of surfaces in is given in the book of Blaschke [Vorlesungen über Differentialgeometrie, Springer, Berlin Heidelberg New York (1929)], and has been studied by Musso and Nicolodi [Trans. Am. Math. soc. 348, 4321–4337 (1996); Abh. Math. Sem. Univ. Hamburg 69, 123–138 (1999); Int. J. Math. 11(7), 911–924 (2000)], Palmer [Remarks on a variation problem in Laguerre geometry. Rendiconti di Mathematica, Serie VII, Roma, vol. 19, pp. 281–293 (1999)] and other authors. In this paper we study Laguerre differential geometry of hypersurfaces in . For any umbilical free hypersurface with non-zero principal curvatures we define a Laguerre invariant metric g on M and a Laguerre invariant self-adjoint operator : TM → TM, and show that is a complete Laguerre invariant system for hypersurfaces in with n≥ 4. We calculate the Euler–Lagrange equation for the Laguerre volume functional of Laguerre metric by using Laguerre invariants. Using the Euclidean space , the semi-Euclidean space and the degenerate space we define three Laguerre space forms , and and define the Laguerre embeddings and , analogously to what happens in the Moebius geometry where we have Moebius space forms S n , and (spaces of constant curvature) and conformal embeddings and [cf. Liu et al. in Tohoku Math. J. 53, 553–569 (2001) and Wang in Manuscr. Math. 96, 517–534 (1998)]. Using these Laguerre embeddings we can unify the Laguerre geometry of hypersurfaces in , and . As an example we show that minimal surfaces in or are Laguerre minimal in .C. Wang Partially supported by RFDP and Chuang-Xin-Qun-Ti of NSFC.  相似文献

Let be a sequence of letters taken in a finite alphabet Θ. Let be a scoring function and the corresponding score sequence where X i = s(A i ). The local score is defined as follows: . We provide the exact distribution of the local score in random sequences in several models. We will first consider a Markov model on the score sequence , and then on the letter sequence . The exact P-value of the local score obtained with both models are compared thanks to several datasets. They are also compared with previous results using the independent model.  相似文献

We investigate strong versions of enumeration reducibility, the most important one being s-reducibility. We prove that every countable distributive lattice is embeddable into the local structure of the s-degrees. However, is not distributive. We show that on sets s-reducibility coincides with its finite branch version; the same holds of e-reducibility. We prove some density results for . In particular is upwards dense. Among the results about reducibilities that are stronger than s-reducibility, we show that the structure of the bs-degrees is dense. Many of these results on s-reducibility yield interesting corollaries for Q-reducibility as well.  相似文献

Let X1 and X2 be subspaces of quotients of R OH and C OH respectively. We use new free probability techniques to construct a completely isomorphic embedding of the Haagerup tensor product into the predual of a sufficiently large QWEP von Neumann algebra. As an immediate application, given any 1 < q ≤ 2, our result produces a completely isomorphic embedding of (equipped with its natural operator space structure) into with a QWEP von Neumann algebra. Let be an n-dimensional compact, possibly with boundary, submanifold in an (n + p)-dimensional space form R n+p (c). Assume that r is even and , in this paper we introduce rth mean curvature function S r and (r + 1)-th mean curvature vector field . We call M to be an r-minimal submanifold if on M, we note that the concept of 0-minimal submanifold is the concept of minimal submanifold. In this paper, we define a functional of , by calculation of the first variational formula of J r we show that x is a critical point of J r if and only if x is r-minimal. Besides, we give many examples of r-minimal submanifolds in space forms. We calculate the second variational formula of J r and prove that there exists no compact without boundary stable r-minimal submanifold with in the unit sphere S n+p . When r = 0, noting S 0 = 1, our result reduces to Simons’ result: there exists no compact without boundary stable minimal submanifold in the unit sphere S n+p .   相似文献

Let denote the set of simultaneously - approximable points in and denote the set of multiplicatively ψ-approximable points in . Let be a manifold in . The aim is to develop a metric theory for the sets and analogous to the classical theory in which is simply . In this note, we mainly restrict our attention to the case that is a planar curve . A complete Hausdorff dimension theory is established for the sets and . A divergent Khintchine type result is obtained for ; i.e. if a certain sum diverges then the one-dimensional Lebesgue measure on of is full. Furthermore, in the case that is a rational quadric the convergent Khintchine type result is obtained for both types of approximation. Our results for naturally generalize the dimension and Lebesgue measure statements of Beresnevich et al. (Mem AMS, 179 (846), 1–91 (2006)). Moreover, within the multiplicative framework, our results for constitute the first of their type. The research of Victor V. Beresnevich was supported by an EPSRC Grant R90727/01. Sanju L. In this paper, we will define a graph von Neumann algebra over a fixed von Neumann algebra M, where G is a countable directed graph, by a crossed product algebra = M × α , where is the graph groupoid of G and α is the graph-representation. After defining a certain conditional expectation from onto its M-diagonal subalgebra we can see that this crossed product algebra is *-isomorphic to an amalgamated free product where = vN(M × α where is the subset of consisting of all reduced words in {e, e –1} and M × α is a W *-subalgebra of as a new graph von Neumann algebra induced by a graph G e . Also, we will show that, as a Banach space, a graph von Neumann algebra is isomorphic to a Banach space ⊕ where is a certain subset of the set E(G)* of all words in the edge set E(G) of G. A result of Barbashin ([1], [15]) states that an exponentially bounded evolution family defined on a Banach space and satisfying some measurability conditions is uniformly exponentially stable if and only if for some 1 ≤ p < ∞, we have that:
Actually the Barbashin result was formulated for non-autonomous differential equations in the framework of finite dimensional spaces. Here we replace the above ”uniform” condition be a ”strong” one. Among others we shall prove that the evolution family is uniformly exponentially stable if there exists a non-decreasing function with for all r > 0 such that for each , one has:
In particular, the family U is uniformly exponentially stable if and only if for some 0 < p < ∞ and each , the inequality
is fulfilled. The latter result extends a similar one from the recent paper [4]. Related results for periodic evolution families are also obtained.   相似文献
