In the connected facility location problem with buy-at-bulk edge costs we are given a set of clients with positive demands and a set of potential facilities with opening costs in an undirected graph with edge lengths obeying the triangle inequality. Moreover, we are given a set of access cable types, each with a cost per unit length and a capacity such that the cost per capacity decreases from small to large cables, and a core cable type of infinite capacity. The task is to open some facilities and to connect them by a Steiner tree using core cables, and to build a forest network using access cables such that the edge capacities suffice to simultaneously route all client demands unsplit to the open facilities. The objective is to minimize the total cost of opening facilities, building the core Steiner tree, and installing the access cables. In this paper, we devise a constant-factor approximation algorithm for this problem based on a random sampling technique.  相似文献

We consider a generalized version of the rooted connected facility location problem which occurs in planning of telecommunication networks with both survivability and hop-length constraints. Given a set of client nodes, a set of potential facility nodes including one predetermined root facility, a set of optional Steiner nodes, and the set of the potential connections among these nodes, that task is to decide which facilities to open, how to assign the clients to the open facilities, and how to interconnect the open facilities in such a way, that the resulting network contains at least λ edge-disjoint paths, each containing at most H edges, between the root and each open facility and that the total cost for opening facilities and installing connections is minimal. We study two IP models for this problem and present a branch-and-cut algorithm based on Benders decomposition for finding its solution. Finally, we report computational results.  相似文献

In this paper we develop a network location model that combines the characteristics of ordered median and gradual cover models resulting in the Ordered Gradual Covering Location Problem (OGCLP). The Gradual Cover Location Problem (GCLP) was specifically designed to extend the basic cover objective to capture sensitivity with respect to absolute travel distance. The Ordered Median Location problem is a generalization of most of the classical locations problems like p-median or p-center problems. The OGCLP model provides a unifying structure for the standard location models and allows us to develop objectives sensitive to both relative and absolute customer-to-facility distances. We derive Finite Dominating Sets (FDS) for the one facility case of the OGCLP. Moreover, we present efficient algorithms for determining the FDS and also discuss the conditional case where a certain number of facilities is already assumed to exist and one new facility is to be added. For the multi-facility case we are able to identify a finite set of potential facility locations a priori, which essentially converts the network location model into its discrete counterpart. For the multi-facility discrete OGCLP we discuss several Integer Programming formulations and give computational results.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose two exact algorithms for the GQAP (generalized quadratic assignment problem). In this problem, given M facilities and N locations, the facility space requirements, the location available space, the facility installation costs, the flows between facilities, and the distance costs between locations, one must assign each facility to exactly one location so that each location has sufficient space for all facilities assigned to it and the sum of the products of the facility flows by the corresponding distance costs plus the sum of the installation costs is minimized. This problem generalizes the well-known quadratic assignment problem (QAP). Both exact algorithms combine a previously proposed branch-and-bound scheme with a new Lagrangean relaxation procedure over a known RLT (Reformulation-Linearization Technique) formulation. We also apply transformational lower bounding techniques to improve the performance of the new procedure. We report detailed experimental results where 19 out of 21 instances with up to 35 facilities are solved in up to a few days of running time. Six of these instances were open.  相似文献

This paper presents a new combinatorial optimization problem that can be used to model the deployment of broadband telecommunications systems in which optical fiber cables are installed between a central office and a number of end-customers. In this capacitated network design problem the installation of optical fiber cables with sufficient capacity is required to carry the traffic from the central office to the end-customers at minimum cost. In the situation motivating this research the network does not necessarily need to connect all customers (or at least not with the best available technology). Instead, some nodes are potential customers. The aim is to select the customers to be connected to the central server and to choose the cable capacities to establish these connections. The telecom company takes the strategic decision of fixing a percentage of customers that should be served, and aims for minimizing the total cost of the network providing this minimum service. For that reason the underlying problem is called the Prize-Collecting Local Access Network Design problem (PC-LAN).  相似文献

A distribution network problem arises in a lower level of an hierarchical modeling approach for telecommunication network planning. This paper describes a model and proposes a lagrangian heuristic for designing a distribution network. Our model is a complex extension of a capacitated single commodity network design problem. We are given a network containing a set of sources with maximum available supply, a set of sinks with required demands, and a set of transshipment points. We need to install adequate capacities on the arcs to route the required flow to each sink, that may be an intermediate or a terminal node of an arborescence. Capacity can only be installed in discrete levels, i.e., cables are available only in certain standard capacities. Economies of scale induce the use of a unique higher capacity cable instead of an equivalent set of lower capacity cables to cover the flow requirements of any link. A path from a source to a terminal node requires a lower flow in the measure that we are closer to the terminal node, since many nodes in the path may be intermediate sinks. On the other hand, the reduction of cable capacity levels across any path is inhibited by splicing costs. The objective is to minimize the total cost of the network, given by the sum of the arc capacity (cables) costs plus the splicing costs along the nodes. In addition to the limited supply and the node demand requirements, the model incorporates constraints on the number of cables installed on each edge and the maximum number of splices at each node. The model is a NP-hard combinatorial optimization problem because it is an extension of the Steiner problem in graphs. Moreover, the discrete levels of cable capacity and the need to consider splicing costs increase the complexity of the problem. We include some computational results of the lagrangian heuristics that works well in the practice of computer aided distribution network design.  相似文献

A near-optimum parallel algorithm for solving facility layout problems is presented in this paper where the problem is NP-complete. The facility layout problem is one of the most fundamental quadratic assignment problems in Operations Research. The goal of the problem is to locate N facilities on an N-square (location) array so as to minimize the total cost. The proposed system is composed of N × N neurons based on an artificial two-dimensional maximum neural network for an N-facility layout problem. Our algorithm has given improved solutions for several benchmark problems over the best existing algorithms.  相似文献

A two-stage facility location problem on a tree-like network is considered under the restriction that the transportation costs for a unit of production from one node to another is equal to the sum of the edges in the path connecting these nodes. Some exact algorithm with time complexity O(nm 3) is suggested for this problem, where n is the number of the production demand points and, m is an upper bound on the number of possible facility location sites of each stage.  相似文献

Probabilistic Formulation of the Emergency Service Location Problem   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The problem of locating emergency service facilities is studied under the assumption that the locations of incidents (accidents, fires, or customers) are random variables. The probability distribution for rectilinear travel time between a new facility location and the random location of the incident P i is developed for the case of P i being uniformly distributed over a rectangular region. The location problem is considered in a discrete space. A deterministic formulation is obtained and recognized to be a set cover problem. Probabilistic variation of the central facility location problem is also presented. An example and some computational experience are provided to emphasize the impact of the probabilistic formulation on the location decision.  相似文献

The recycling of urban solid wastes is a critical point for the “closing supply chains” of many products, mainly when their value cannot be completely recovered after use. In addition to environmental aspects, the process of recycling involves technical, economic, social and political challenges for public management. For most of the urban solid waste, the management of the end-of-life depends on selective collection to start the recycling process. For this reason, an efficient selective collection has become a mainstream tool in the Brazilian National Solid Waste Policy. In this paper, we study effective models that might support the location planning of sorting centers in a medium-sized Brazilian city that has been discussing waste management policies over the past few years. The main goal of this work is to provide an optimal location planning design for recycling urban solid wastes that fall within the financial budget agreed between the municipal government and the National Bank for Economic and Social Development. Moreover, facility planning involves deciding on the best sites for locating sorting centers along the four-year period as well as finding ways to meet the demand for collecting recyclable materials, given that economic factors, consumer behavior and environmental awareness are inherently uncertain future outcomes. To deal with these issues, we propose a deterministic version of the classical capacity facility location problem, and both a two-stage recourse formulation and risk-averse models to reduce the variability of the second-stage costs. Numerical results suggest that it is possible to improve the current selective collection, as well as hedge against data uncertainty by using stochastic and risk-averse optimization models.  相似文献

In this paper we introduce and analyze new classes of cooperative games related to facility location models defined on general metric spaces. The players are the customers (demand points) in the location problem and the characteristic value of a coalition is the cost of serving its members. Specifically, the cost in our games is the service radius of the coalition. We call these games the Minimum Radius Location Games (MRLG).We study the existence of core allocations and the existence of polynomial representations of the cores of these games, focusing on network spaces, i.e., finite metric spaces induced by undirected graphs and positive edge lengths, and on the ?p metric spaces defined over Rd.  相似文献

The universal facility location problem generalizes several classical facility location problems, such as the uncapacitated facility location problem and the capacitated location problem (both hard and soft capacities). In the universal facility location problem, we are given a set of demand points and a set of facilities. We wish to assign the demands to facilities such that the total service as well as facility cost is minimized. The service cost is proportional to the distance that each unit of the demand has to travel to its assigned facility. The open cost of facility i depends on the amount z of demand assigned to i and is given by a cost function \(f_i(z)\). In this work, we extend the universal facility location problem to include linear penalties, where we pay certain penalty cost whenever we refuse serving some demand points. As our main contribution, we present a (\(7.88+\epsilon \))-approximation local search algorithm for this problem.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the location of several transfer points to serve as collector points for customers who need the services of a facility. For example, demand for emergency services by patients is generated at a set of demand points that need the services of a central facility (such as a hospital). Patients are transferred to a helicopter pad (transfer point) at normal speed, and from there they are transferred to the facility at increased speed. The general model involves the location of multiple transfer points and one facility. Locating one transfer point when the set of demand points and the location of the facility are known was investigated in a previous paper by the authors. In this paper, we apply the results of that paper to solve the problem when the location of the facility is known. Both minisum and minimax versions of the models are investigated both in the plane and on the network.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the location of a new obnoxious facility that serves only a certain proportion of the demand. Each demand point can be bought by the developer at a given price. An expropriation budget is given. Demand points closest to the facility are expropriated within the given budget. The objective is to maximize the distance to the closest point not expropriated. The problem is formulated and polynomial algorithms are proposed for its solution both on the plane and on a network.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce the transfer point location problem. Demand for emergency service is generated at a set of demand points who need the services of a central facility (such as a hospital). Patients are transferred to a helicopter pad (transfer point) at normal speed, and from there they are transferred to the facility at increased speed. The general model involves the location of p helicopter pads and one facility. In this paper, we solve the special case where the location of the facility is known and the best location of one transfer point that serves a set of demand points is sought. Both minisum and minimax versions of the models are investigated. In follow up papers we investigate the general model using the results obtained in this paper.  相似文献

This paper examines a network design problem that arises in the telecommunications industry. In this problem, communication between a gateway vertex and a number of demand vertices is achieved through a network of fiber optic cables. Since each cable has an associated capacity (bandwidth), enough capacity must be installed on the links of the network to satisfy the demand, using possibly different types of cables. Starting with a network with no capacity or some capacity already installed, a tabu search heuristic is designed to find a solution that minimizes the cost of installing any additional capacity on the network. This tabu search applies a k-shortest path algorithm to find alternative paths from the gateway to the demand vertices. Numerical results are presented on different types of networks with up to 200 vertices and 100 demand vertices.  相似文献

We consider discrete competitive facility location problems in this paper. Such problems could be viewed as a search of nodes in a network, composed of candidate and customer demand nodes, which connections correspond to attractiveness between customers and facilities located at the candidate nodes. The number of customers is usually very large. For some models of customer behavior exact solution approaches could be used. However, for other models and/or when the size of problem is too high to solve exactly, heuristic algorithms may be used. The solution of discrete competitive facility location problems using genetic algorithms is considered in this paper. The new strategies for dynamic adjustment of some parameters of genetic algorithm, such as probabilities for the crossover and mutation operations are proposed and applied to improve the canonical genetic algorithm. The algorithm is also specially adopted to solve discrete competitive facility location problems by proposing a strategy for selection of the most promising values of the variables in the mutation procedure. The developed genetic algorithm is demonstrated by solving instances of competitive facility location problems for an entering firm.
