We study generalizations of the classical Bernstein operators on the polynomial spaces \(\mathbb {P}_{n}[a,b]\), where instead of fixing \(\mathbf {1}\) and x, we reproduce exactly \(\mathbf {1}\) and a polynomial \(f_1\), strictly increasing on [ab]. We prove that for sufficiently large n, there always exist generalized Bernstein operators fixing \(\mathbf {1}\) and \(f_1\). These operators are defined by non-decreasing sequences of nodes precisely when \(f_1^\prime > 0\) on (ab), but even if \(f_1^\prime \) vanishes somewhere inside (ab), they converge to the identity.  相似文献

For any positive integer n, let \(\sigma (\mathrm{n})\) and p(n) denote the sum of divisors and the least prime divisor of n respectively. Let a, b be positive integers. In this paper we prove the following two results: (i) If 4 | a and \(\gcd (a, b)=1\), then a and b do not satisfy \(\sigma (a)= \sigma (b)=a+b\). (ii) If \(a>10^{8}\) and \(p(a)>2\log _{2}a+1\), where \(\log _{2}{a}\) is the logarithm of a with base 2, then a and b do not satisfy \(\sigma (a)=\sigma (b)=a+b+\lambda \), where \(\lambda \in \{0,\pm 1\}\).  相似文献

The first main theorem of this paper asserts that any \((\sigma , \tau )\)-derivation d, under certain conditions, either is a \(\sigma \)-derivation or is a scalar multiple of (\(\sigma - \tau \)), i.e. \(d = \lambda (\sigma - \tau )\) for some \(\lambda \in \mathbb {C} \backslash \{0\}\). By using this characterization, we achieve a result concerning the automatic continuity of \((\sigma , \tau \))-derivations on Banach algebras which reads as follows. Let \(\mathcal {A}\) be a unital, commutative, semi-simple Banach algebra, and let \(\sigma , \tau : \mathcal {A} \rightarrow \mathcal {A}\) be two distinct endomorphisms such that \(\varphi \sigma (\mathbf e )\) and \(\varphi \tau (\mathbf e )\) are non-zero complex numbers for all \(\varphi \in \Phi _\mathcal {A}\). If \(d : \mathcal {A} \rightarrow \mathcal {A}\) is a \((\sigma , \tau )\)-derivation such that \(\varphi d\) is a non-zero linear functional for every \(\varphi \in \Phi _\mathcal {A}\), then d is automatically continuous. As another objective of this research, we prove that if \(\mathfrak {M}\) is a commutative von Neumann algebra and \(\sigma :\mathfrak {M} \rightarrow \mathfrak {M}\) is an endomorphism, then every Jordan \(\sigma \)-derivation \(d:\mathfrak {M} \rightarrow \mathfrak {M}\) is identically zero.  相似文献

It is well known that the pseudovariety \(\mathbf {J}\) of all \(\mathscr {J}\)-trivial monoids is not local, which means that the pseudovariety \(g\mathbf {J}\) of categories generated by \(\mathbf {J}\) is a proper subpseudovariety of the pseudovariety \(\ell \mathbf {J}\) of categories all of whose local monoids belong to \(\mathbf {J}\). In this paper, it is proved that the pseudovariety \(\mathbf {J}\) enjoys the following weaker property. For every prime number p, the pseudovariety \(\ell \mathbf {J}\) is a subpseudovariety of the pseudovariety \(g(\mathbf {J}*\mathbf {Ab}_p)\), where \(\mathbf {Ab}_p\) is the pseudovariety of all elementary abelian p-groups and \(\mathbf {J}*\mathbf {Ab}_p\) is the pseudovariety of monoids generated by the class of all semidirect products of monoids from \(\mathbf {J}\) by groups from \(\mathbf {Ab}_p\). As an application, a new proof of the celebrated equality of pseudovarieties \(\mathbf {PG}=\mathbf {BG}\) is obtained, where \(\mathbf {PG}\) is the pseudovariety of monoids generated by the class of all power monoids of groups and \(\mathbf {BG}\) is the pseudovariety of all block groups.  相似文献

In this paper we continue to develop the topological method to get semigroup generators of semi-simple Lie groups. Consider a subset \(\Gamma \subset G\) that contains a semi-simple subgroup \(G_{1}\) of G. If one can show that \( \Gamma \) does not leave invariant a contractible subset on any flag manifold of G, then \(\Gamma \) generates G if \(\mathrm {Ad}\left( \Gamma \right) \) generates a Zariski dense subgroup of the algebraic group \(\mathrm {Ad}\left( G\right) \). The proof is reduced to check that some specific closed orbits of \(G_{1}\) in the flag manifolds of G are not trivial in the sense of algebraic topology. Here, we consider three different cases of semi-simple Lie groups G and subgroups \(G_{1}\subset G\).  相似文献

Given a model \(\mathcal {M}\) of set theory, and a nontrivial automorphism j of \(\mathcal {M}\), let \(\mathcal {I}_{\mathrm {fix}}(j)\) be the submodel of \(\mathcal {M}\) whose universe consists of elements m of \(\mathcal {M}\) such that \(j(x)=x\) for every x in the transitive closure of m (where the transitive closure of m is computed within \(\mathcal {M}\)). Here we study the class \(\mathcal {C}\) of structures of the form \(\mathcal {I}_{\mathrm {fix}}(j)\), where the ambient model \(\mathcal {M}\) satisfies a frugal yet robust fragment of \(\mathrm {ZFC}\) known as \(\mathrm {MOST}\), and \(j(m)=m\) whenever m is a finite ordinal in the sense of \(\mathcal {M}.\) Our main achievement is the calculation of the theory of \(\mathcal {C}\) as precisely \(\mathrm {MOST+\Delta }_{0}^{\mathcal {P}}\)-\(\mathrm {Collection}\). The following theorems encapsulate our principal results: Theorem A. Every structure in \(\mathcal {C}\) satisfies \(\mathrm {MOST+\Delta }_{0}^{\mathcal {P}}\)-\(\mathrm { Collection}\). Theorem B. Each of the following three conditions is sufficient for a countable structure \(\mathcal {N}\) to be in \(\mathcal {C}\):(a) \(\mathcal {N}\) is a transitive model of \(\mathrm {MOST+\Delta }_{0}^{\mathcal {P}}\)-\(\mathrm {Collection}\).(b) \(\mathcal {N}\) is a recursively saturated model of \(\mathrm {MOST+\Delta }_{0}^{\mathcal {P}}\)-\(\mathrm {Collection}\).(c) \(\mathcal {N}\) is a model of \(\mathrm {ZFC}\). Theorem C. Suppose \(\mathcal {M}\) is a countable recursively saturated model of \(\mathrm {ZFC}\) and I is a proper initial segment of \(\mathrm {Ord}^{\mathcal {M}}\) that is closed under exponentiation and contains \(\omega ^\mathcal {M}\) . There is a group embedding \(j\longmapsto \check{j}\) from \(\mathrm {Aut}(\mathbb {Q})\) into \(\mathrm {Aut}(\mathcal {M})\) such that I is the longest initial segment of \(\mathrm {Ord}^{\mathcal {M}}\) that is pointwise fixed by \(\check{j}\) for every nontrivial \(j\in \mathrm {Aut}(\mathbb {Q}).\) In Theorem C, \(\mathrm {Aut}(X)\) is the group of automorphisms of the structure X, and \(\mathbb {Q}\) is the ordered set of rationals.  相似文献

Let \(\Omega \) be a bounded domain with smooth boundary in an n-dimensional metric measure space \((\mathbb {R}^n, \langle ,\rangle , e^{-\phi }dv)\) and let \(\mathbf {u}=(u^1, \ldots , u^n)\) be a vector-valued function from \(\Omega \) to \(\mathbb {R}^n\). In this paper, we investigate the Dirichlet eigenvalue problem of a system of equations of the drifting Laplacian: \(\mathbb {L}_{\phi } \mathbf {u} + \alpha [ \nabla (\mathrm {div}\mathbf { u}) -\nabla \phi \mathrm {div} \mathbf {u}]= - \widetilde{\sigma } \mathbf {u}\), in \( \Omega \), and \(u|_{\partial \Omega }=0,\) where \(\mathbb {L}_{\phi } = \Delta - \nabla \phi \cdot \nabla \) is the drifting Laplacian and \(\alpha \) is a nonnegative constant. We establish some universal inequalities for lower order eigenvalues of this problem on the metric measure space \((\mathbb {R}^n, \langle ,\rangle , e^{-\phi }dv)\) and the Gaussian shrinking soliton \((\mathbb {R}^n, \langle ,\rangle _{\mathrm {can}}, e^{-\frac{|x|^2}{4}}dv, \frac{1}{2})\). Moreover, we give an estimate for the upper bound of the second eigenvalue of this problem in terms of its first eigenvalue on the gradient product Ricci soliton \((\Sigma \times \mathbb {R}, \langle ,\rangle , e^{-\frac{\kappa t^2}{2}}dv, \kappa )\), where \( \Sigma \) is an Einstein manifold with constant Ricci curvature \(\kappa \).  相似文献

We introduce and study the first-order Generic Vopěnka’s Principle, which states that for every definable proper class of structures \(\mathcal {C}\) of the same type, there exist \(B\ne A\) in \(\mathcal {C}\) such that B elementarily embeds into A in some set-forcing extension. We show that, for \(n\ge 1\), the Generic Vopěnka’s Principle fragment for \(\Pi _n\)-definable classes is equiconsistent with a proper class of n-remarkable cardinals. The n-remarkable cardinals hierarchy for \(n\in \omega \), which we introduce here, is a natural generic analogue for the \(C^{(n)}\)-extendible cardinals that Bagaria used to calibrate the strength of the first-order Vopěnka’s Principle in Bagaria (Arch Math Logic 51(3–4):213–240, 2012). Expanding on the theme of studying set theoretic properties which assert the existence of elementary embeddings in some set-forcing extension, we introduce and study the weak Proper Forcing Axiom, \(\mathrm{wPFA}\). The axiom \(\mathrm{wPFA}\) states that for every transitive model \(\mathcal M\) in the language of set theory with some \(\omega _1\)-many additional relations, if it is forced by a proper forcing \(\mathbb P\) that \(\mathcal M\) satisfies some \(\Sigma _1\)-property, then V has a transitive model \(\bar{\mathcal M}\), satisfying the same \(\Sigma _1\)-property, and in some set-forcing extension there is an elementary embedding from \(\bar{\mathcal M}\) into \(\mathcal M\). This is a weakening of a formulation of \(\mathrm{PFA}\) due to Claverie and Schindler (J Symb Logic 77(2):475–498, 2012), which asserts that the embedding from \(\bar{\mathcal M}\) to \(\mathcal M\) exists in V. We show that \(\mathrm{wPFA}\) is equiconsistent with a remarkable cardinal. Furthermore, the axiom \(\mathrm{wPFA}\) implies \(\mathrm{PFA}_{\aleph _2}\), the Proper Forcing Axiom for antichains of size at most \(\omega _2\), but it is consistent with \(\square _\kappa \) for all \(\kappa \ge \omega _2\), and therefore does not imply \(\mathrm{PFA}_{\aleph _3}\).  相似文献

Let A be an ordered algebra with a unit \(\mathbf{e}\) and a cone \(A^+\). The class of order continuous elements \(A_\mathrm{n}\) of A is introduced and studied. If \(A=L(E)\), where E is a Dedekind complete Riesz space, this class coincides with the band \(L_\mathrm{n}(E)\) of all order continuous operators on E. Special subclasses of \(A_\mathrm {n}\) are considered. Firstly, the order ideal \(A_\mathbf{e}\) generated by \(\mathbf{e}\). It is shown that \(A_\mathbf{e}\) can be embedded into the algebra of continuous functions and, in particular, is a commutative subalgebra of A. If A is an ordered Banach algebra with normal cone \(A^+\) then \(A_\mathbf{e}\) is an AM-space and is closed in A. Secondly, the notion of an orthomorphism in the ordered algebra A is introduced. Among others, the conditions under which orthomorphisms are order continuous, are considered. In the second part, the main emphasis will be on the case of an ordered \(C^*\)-algebra A and, in particular, on the case of the algebra B(H), where H is an ordered Hilbert space with self-adjoint cone \(H^+\). If the cone \(A^+\) is normal then every element of \(A_\mathbf{e}\) is hermitian. In H the operations are introduced which coincide with the lattice ones when H is a Riesz space. It is shown that every regular \(T\in B(H)\) is an order continuous element and operators \(T\in (B(H))_I\) have properties which are analogous to the properties of orthomorphisms on Riesz spaces.  相似文献

Let \(\pi _{\varphi }\) (or \(\pi _{\psi }\)) be an automorphic cuspidal representation of \(\text {GL}_{2} (\mathbb {A}_{\mathbb {Q}})\) associated to a primitive Maass cusp form \(\varphi \) (or \(\psi \)), and \(\mathrm{sym}^j \pi _{\varphi }\) be the jth symmetric power lift of \(\pi _{\varphi }\). Let \(a_{\mathrm{sym}^j \pi _{\varphi }}(n)\) denote the nth Dirichlet series coefficient of the principal L-function associated to \(\mathrm{sym}^j \pi _{\varphi }\). In this paper, we study first moments of Dirichlet series coefficients of automorphic representations \(\mathrm{sym}^3 \pi _{\varphi }\) of \(\text {GL}_{4}(\mathbb {A}_{\mathbb {Q}})\), and \(\pi _{\psi }\otimes \mathrm{sym}^2 \pi _{\varphi }\) of \(\text {GL}_{6}(\mathbb {A}_{\mathbb {Q}})\). For \(3 \le j \le 8\), estimates for \(|a_{\mathrm{sym}^j \pi _{\varphi }}(n)|\) on average over a short interval have also been established.  相似文献

Let \(G=\mathbf{C}_{n_1}\times \cdots \times \mathbf{C}_{n_m}\) be an abelian group of order \(n=n_1\dots n_m\), where each \(\mathbf{C}_{n_t}\) is cyclic of order \(n_t\). We present a correspondence between the (4n, 2, 4n, 2n)-relative difference sets in \(G\times Q_8\) relative to the centre \(Z(Q_8)\) and the perfect arrays of size \(n_1\times \dots \times n_m\) over the quaternionic alphabet \(Q_8\cup qQ_8\), where \(q=(1+i+j+k)/2\). In view of this connection, for \(m=2\) we introduce new families of relative difference sets in \(G\times Q_8\), as well as new families of Williamson and Ito Hadamard matrices with G-invariant components.  相似文献

We present a way to study a wide class of optimal design problems with a perimeter penalization. More precisely, we address existence and regularity properties of saddle points of energies of the form
$$\begin{aligned} (u,A) \quad \mapsto \quad \int _\Omega 2fu \,\mathrm {d}x \; - \int _{\Omega \cap A} \sigma _1\mathscr {A}u\cdot \mathscr {A}u \, \,\mathrm {d}x \; - \int _{\Omega {\setminus } A} \sigma _2\mathscr {A}u\cdot \mathscr {A}u \, \,\mathrm {d}x \; + \; \text {Per }(A;\overline{\Omega }), \end{aligned}$$
where \(\Omega \) is a bounded Lipschitz domain, \(A\subset \mathbb {R}^N\) is a Borel set, \(u:\Omega \subset \mathbb {R}^N \rightarrow \mathbb {R}^d\), \(\mathscr {A}\) is an operator of gradient form, and \(\sigma _1, \sigma _2\) are two not necessarily well-ordered symmetric tensors. The class of operators of gradient form includes scalar- and vector-valued gradients, symmetrized gradients, and higher order gradients. Therefore, our results may be applied to a wide range of problems in elasticity, conductivity or plasticity models. In this context and under mild assumptions on f, we show for a solution (wA), that the topological boundary of \(A \cap \Omega \) is locally a \(\mathrm {C}^1\)-hypersurface up to a closed set of zero \(\mathscr {H}^{N-1}\)-measure.

Given a simple digraph D on n vertices (with \(n\ge 2\)), there is a natural construction of a semigroup of transformations \(\langle D\rangle \). For any edge (ab) of D, let \(a\rightarrow b\) be the idempotent of rank \(n-1\) mapping a to b and fixing all vertices other than a; then, define \(\langle D\rangle \) to be the semigroup generated by \(a \rightarrow b\) for all \((a,b) \in E(D)\). For \(\alpha \in \langle D\rangle \), let \(\ell (D,\alpha )\) be the minimal length of a word in E(D) expressing \(\alpha \). It is well known that the semigroup \(\mathrm {Sing}_n\) of all transformations of rank at most \(n-1\) is generated by its idempotents of rank \(n-1\). When \(D=K_n\) is the complete undirected graph, Howie and Iwahori, independently, obtained a formula to calculate \(\ell (K_n,\alpha )\), for any \(\alpha \in \langle K_n\rangle = \mathrm {Sing}_n\); however, no analogous non-trivial results are known when \(D \ne K_n\). In this paper, we characterise all simple digraphs D such that either \(\ell (D,\alpha )\) is equal to Howie–Iwahori’s formula for all \(\alpha \in \langle D\rangle \), or \(\ell (D,\alpha ) = n - \mathrm {fix}(\alpha )\) for all \(\alpha \in \langle D\rangle \), or \(\ell (D,\alpha ) = n - \mathrm {rk}(\alpha )\) for all \(\alpha \in \langle D\rangle \). We also obtain bounds for \(\ell (D,\alpha )\) when D is an acyclic digraph or a strong tournament (the latter case corresponds to a smallest generating set of idempotents of rank \(n-1\) of \(\mathrm {Sing}_n\)). We finish the paper with a list of conjectures and open problems.  相似文献

A special case of a fundamental theorem of Schneider asserts that if \(j(\tau )\) is algebraic (where j is the classical modular invariant), then any zero z not in \(\mathbf{Q}.L_\tau := \mathbf{Q}\oplus \mathbf{Q}\tau \) of the Weierstrass function \(\wp (\tau ,\cdot )\) attached to the lattice \(L_\tau =\mathbf{Z}\oplus \mathbf{Z}\tau \) is transcendental. In this note we generalize this result to holomorphic Jacobi forms of weight k and index \(m\in \mathbf{N}\) with algebraic Fourier coefficients.  相似文献

Denoising has to do with estimating a signal \(\mathbf {x}_0\) from its noisy observations \(\mathbf {y}=\mathbf {x}_0+\mathbf {z}\). In this paper, we focus on the “structured denoising problem,” where the signal \(\mathbf {x}_0\) possesses a certain structure and \(\mathbf {z}\) has independent normally distributed entries with mean zero and variance \(\sigma ^2\). We employ a structure-inducing convex function \(f(\cdot )\) and solve \(\min _\mathbf {x}\{\frac{1}{2}\Vert \mathbf {y}-\mathbf {x}\Vert _2^2+\sigma {\lambda }f(\mathbf {x})\}\) to estimate \(\mathbf {x}_0\), for some \(\lambda >0\). Common choices for \(f(\cdot )\) include the \(\ell _1\) norm for sparse vectors, the \(\ell _1-\ell _2\) norm for block-sparse signals and the nuclear norm for low-rank matrices. The metric we use to evaluate the performance of an estimate \(\mathbf {x}^*\) is the normalized mean-squared error \(\text {NMSE}(\sigma )=\frac{{\mathbb {E}}\Vert \mathbf {x}^*-\mathbf {x}_0\Vert _2^2}{\sigma ^2}\). We show that NMSE is maximized as \(\sigma \rightarrow 0\) and we find the exact worst-case NMSE, which has a simple geometric interpretation: the mean-squared distance of a standard normal vector to the \({\lambda }\)-scaled subdifferential \({\lambda }\partial f(\mathbf {x}_0)\). When \({\lambda }\) is optimally tuned to minimize the worst-case NMSE, our results can be related to the constrained denoising problem \(\min _{f(\mathbf {x})\le f(\mathbf {x}_0)}\{\Vert \mathbf {y}-\mathbf {x}\Vert _2\}\). The paper also connects these results to the generalized LASSO problem, in which one solves \(\min _{f(\mathbf {x})\le f(\mathbf {x}_0)}\{\Vert \mathbf {y}-{\mathbf {A}}\mathbf {x}\Vert _2\}\) to estimate \(\mathbf {x}_0\) from noisy linear observations \(\mathbf {y}={\mathbf {A}}\mathbf {x}_0+\mathbf {z}\). We show that certain properties of the LASSO problem are closely related to the denoising problem. In particular, we characterize the normalized LASSO cost and show that it exhibits a “phase transition” as a function of number of observations. We also provide an order-optimal bound for the LASSO error in terms of the mean-squared distance. Our results are significant in two ways. First, we find a simple formula for the performance of a general convex estimator. Secondly, we establish a connection between the denoising and linear inverse problems.  相似文献

Consider \(G=SL_2(\mathbb {Z})/\{\pm I\}\) acting on the complex upper half plane H by \(h_M(z)=\frac{az\,+\,b}{cz\,+\,d}\) for \(M \in G\). Let \(D=\{z \in H: |z|\ge 1, |\mathfrak {R}(z)|\le 1/2\}\). We consider the set \({\mathcal {E}} \subset G\) with the nine elements M, different from the identity, such that \(\mathrm{tr\,}(MM^T)\le 3\). We equip the tiling of H defined by \(\mathbb {D}=\{h_M(D){:}\, M \in G\}\) with a graph structure where the neighbours are defined by \(h_M(D) \cap h_{M'}(D) \ne \emptyset \), equivalently \(M^{-1}M' \in {\mathcal {E}}\). The present paper studies several Markov chains related to the above structure. We show that the simple random walk on the above graph converges a.s. to a point X of the real line with the same distribution of \(S_2 W^{S_1}\), where \(S_1,S_2,W\) are independent with \(\Pr (S_i=\pm 1)=1/2\) and where W is valued in (0, 1) with distribution \(\Pr (W<w)=\mathbf ? (w)\). Here \(\mathbf ? \) is the Minkowski function. If \(K_1, K_2, \ldots \) are i.i.d with distribution \(\Pr (K_i=n)= 1/2^n\) for \(n=1,2,\ldots \), then \(W= \frac{1}{K_1+\frac{1}{K_2+\ldots }}\): this known result (Isola in Appl Math 5:1067–1090, 2014) is derived again here.  相似文献

This paper first shows that the Riemann localisation property holds for the Fourier-Laplace series partial sum for sufficiently smooth functions on the two-dimensional sphere, but does not hold for spheres of higher dimension. By Riemann localisation on the sphere \(\mathbb {S}^{d}\subset \mathbb {R}^{d+1}\), \(d\ge 2\), we mean that for a suitable subset X of \(\mathbb {L}_{p}(\mathbb {S}^{d})\), \(1\le p\le \infty \), the \(\mathbb {L}_{p}\)-norm of the Fourier local convolution of \(f\in X\) converges to zero as the degree goes to infinity. The Fourier local convolution of f at \(\mathbf {x}\in \mathbb {S}^{d}\) is the Fourier convolution with a modified version of f obtained by replacing values of f by zero on a neighbourhood of \(\mathbf {x}\). The failure of Riemann localisation for \(d>2\) can be overcome by considering a filtered version: we prove that for a sphere of any dimension and sufficiently smooth filter the corresponding local convolution always has the Riemann localisation property. Key tools are asymptotic estimates of the Fourier and filtered kernels.  相似文献
