Let X be a Banach space, K be a scattered compact and T: B C(K)X be a Fréchet smooth operator whose derivative is uniformly continuous. We introduce the smooth biconjugate T**: B C(K)**X** and prove that if T is noncompact, then the derivative of T** at some point is a noncompact linear operator. Using this we conclude, among other things, that either is compact or that ℓ1 is a complemented subspace of X*. We also give some relevant examples of smooth functions and operators, in particular, a C 1,u -smooth noncompact operator from B c O which does not fix any (affine) basic sequence. P. We study the approximation of the classes of functions by the manifold R n formed by all possible linear combinations of n ridge functions of the form r(a · x)): It is proved that, for any 1 ≤ qp ≤ ∞, the deviation of the Sobolev class W r p from the set R n of ridge functions in the space L q (B d ) satisfies the sharp order n -r/(d-1).  相似文献

We show that for every odd integer p 1 there is an absolute positive constantcp, so that the maximum cardinality of a set of vectors in Rn such that the lp distance between any pair is precisely 1, is at most cp n log n. We prove some upper bounds for other lp norms as well.  相似文献

Let D be an infinite division ring. A famous result due to Herstein says that every non-central element of D has infinitely many conjugates and so, if D * is an FC-group, then D is a field. Let M be a maximal subgroup of GL n (D), where n ≥ 1. In this paper, we prove that if M is an FC-group, then it is the multiplicative group of some maximal subfield of M n (D). Moreover, if M is algebraic over Z(D), then [D : Z(D)] < ∞.  相似文献

There is a well-known fact, that any group G 1 is a CEP-subgroup both for the direct product G 1 × G 2 and the free productG 1 * G 2 of G 1 with any group G 2. The paper gives a necessary and sufficient condition providing that a multiplier G i of a n-periodic product Π iI n G i of any family of groups {G i } iI is a CEP-subgroup. Particularly, the found criterionmeans that any group G 1 of odd period n ≥ 665 is a CEP-subgroup of the n-periodic product Π iI n G i for any group G 2.  相似文献

Very recently, Yu, Le and Zhou introduced the so called △B1^* and △B2^* conditions, which are generalizations of the monotone condition. By applying these two new conditions, the author essentially generalizes the classical results of Chen on the necessary and sufficient conditions of the Lp integrability of trigonometric series. In fact, the present paper gives the first result on the necessary and sufficient conditions of the Lp integrability of trigonometric series, where coefficients may have different signs.  相似文献

Let R be a ring, n a fixed nonnegative integer and FP n (F n ) the class of all left (right) R-modules of FP-injective (flat) dimensions at most n. A left R-module M (resp., right R-module F) is called n-FI-injective (resp., n-FI-flat) if Ext 1(N,M) = 0 (resp., Tor 1(F,N) = 0) for any NFP n . It is shown that a left R-module M over any ring R is n-FI-injective if and only if M is a kernel of an FP n -precover f: AB with A injective. For a left coherent ring R, it is proven that a finitely presented right R-module M is n-FI-flat if and only if M is a cokernel of an F n -preenvelope KF of a right R-module K with F projective if and only if M F n . These classes of modules are used to construct cotorsion theories and to characterize the global dimension of a ring.  相似文献

Let M n (K) be the algebra of all n × n matrices over an infinite field K. This algebra has a natural ℤ n -grading and a natural ℤ-grading. In the present paper we discuss in detail the cohomogeneity one isometric actions of the Lie groups SU(3) × SU(3) and SU(3) on the exceptional compact symmetric spaces G2 and G2/SO(4), respectively. We show that the principal orbits coincide with the tubular hypersurfaces around the totally geodesic singular orbits, and the symmetric spaces G2 and G2/SO(4) can be thought of as compact tubes around SU(3) and P2, respectively. Moreover, we determine the radii of these tubes and describe the shape operators of the principal orbits. This paper considers semigroups of operators generated by pseudodifferential operators in weighted L p -spaces of vector functions on \mathbbRn {\mathbb{R}^n} (or on a compact manifold without boundary). Sufficient conditions for a semigroup to be strongly continuous and analytic are obtained, conditions for it to be completely continuous are found, and the distribution of the eigenvalues of its infinitesimal generator is examined. Also, an integral representation that singles out the principal term of the semigroup as t → 0+ is established.  相似文献
