Characterization of the trace by monotonicity inequalities

Let ?be a positive linear functional on the algebra of n × n complex matrices and p be a number greater than 1. The main result of the paper says that if for any pair A, B of positive semi-definite n × n matrices with A ? B the inequality ?(A^p) ? ?(B^p) holds true, then ?is a nonnegative scalar multiple of the trace.     

Regular Submanifolds in Conformal Space ${\mathbb Q}^n_p$

The authors study the regular submanifolds in the conformal space Q_p~n and introduce the submanifold theory in the conformal space Q_p~n.The first variation formula of the Willmore volume functional of pseudo-Riemannian submanifolds in the conformal spaceQ_p~n is given.Finally,the conformal isotropic submanifolds in the conformal space Q_p~n are classified.     

p-Adic invariant summation of some p-adic functional series

We consider summation of some finite and infinite functional p-adic series with factorials. In particular, we are interested in the infinite series which are convergent for all primes p, and have the same integer value for an integer argument. In this paper, we present rather large class of such p-adic functional series with integer coefficients which contain factorials. By recurrence relations, we constructed sequence of polynomials A _k (n; x) which are a generator for a few other sequences also relevant to some problems in number theory and combinatorics.     

On the number of n-plexes

An n-plex of order p is an n-dimensional simplicial complex with p 0-simplexes in which every maximal simplex has dimension n or 0. An effective method is provided for calculating the number sⁿ_p of n-plexes of order p, and all values of sⁿ_p are computed for p≥9, thereby extending some results of Harary [1,2] and Oberschelp [5]. Connected n-plexes and self-complementary n-plexes are also enumerated and some useful asymptotic formulas are found.     

Path continuity of fractional Dirichlet functionals

We prove that the quasi continuous version of a functional in E^p_r is continuous along the sample paths of the Dirichlet process provided that p>2, 0<r?1 and pr>2, without assuming the Meyer equivalence. Parallel results for multi-parameter processes are also obtained. Moreover, for 1<p<2, we prove that a n parameter Dirichlet process does not touch a set of (p,2n)-zero capacity. As an example, we also study the quasi-everywhere existence of the local times of martingales on path space.     

On the number of distinct multinomial coefficients

We study M(n), the number of distinct values taken by multinomial coefficients with upper entry n, and some closely related sequences. We show that both pP(n)/M(n) and M(n)/p(n) tend to zero as n goes to infinity, where pP(n) is the number of partitions of n into primes and p(n) is the total number of partitions of n. To use methods from commutative algebra, we encode partitions and multinomial coefficients as monomials.     

Higher dimensional cable knots and their finite cyclic covering spaces

As an analogue of the classical cable knot, the p-cable n-knot about an n-knot K, where p is an integer and n?2, is defined, and some basic properties of higher dimensional cable knots are described. We show that for p>0 then p-fold branched cyclic covering space of an (n+2)-sphere branched over the p-cable knot about an n-knot K is an (n+2)-sphere or a homotopy (n+2)-sphere which is the result of Gluck-surgery on the composition of p copies of K according as if p is odd or even. At the same time, we prove that for any n?2 and p?2, the composition of p copies of any n-knot K is the fixed point set of a Z_p-action on an (n+2)-sphere. This is another counterexample to the higher dimensional Smith conjecture.     

Non-orientable fundamental surfaces in lens spaces

We give a concrete example of an infinite sequence of (pn,qn)-lens spaces L(pn,qn) with natural triangulations T(pn,qn) with pn tetrahedra such that L(pn,qn) contains a certain non-orientable closed surface which is fundamental with respect to T(pn,qn) and of minimal crosscap number among all closed non-orientable surfaces in L(pn,qn) and has n−2 parallel sheets of normal disks of a quadrilateral type disjoint from the pair of core circles of L(pn,qn). Actually, we can set p₀=0, q₀=1, pk+1=3pk+2qk and qk+1=pk+qk.     

Stably extendible tangent bundles over lens spaces

The purpose of this paper is to study the stable extendibility of the tangent bundle τn(p) over the (2n+1)-dimensional standard lens space Ln(p) for odd prime p. We investigate for which m the tangent bundle τn(p) is stably extendible to Lm(p) but is not stably extendible to Lm+1(p), where we consider m=∞ if τn(p) is stably extendible to Lk(p) for any k?n, and determine m in the case n?p−3.     

On banach spaces with unconditional bases

It is shown that for every space with an unconditional basis there exists a uniformly bounded sequence of projectionsP _n;n=1, 2, ... whose ranges are uniformly isomorphic tol _p ⁿ ;n=1, 2, ... either forp=1, orp=2, or forp=∞.
