Stochastic local search is a successful technique in diverse areas of combinatorial optimisation and is predominantly applied to hard problems. When dealing with individual instances of hard problems, gathering information about specific properties of instances in a pre-processing phase is helpful for an appropriate parameter adjustment of local search-based procedures. In the present paper, we address parameter estimations in the context of landscapes induced by k-SAT instances: at first, we utilise a sampling method devised by Garnier and Kallel in 2002 for approximations of the number of local maxima in landscapes generated by individual k-SAT instances and a simple neighbourhood relation. The objective function is given by the number of satisfied clauses. The procedure provides good approximations of the actual number of local maxima, with a deviation typically around 10%. Secondly, we provide a method for obtaining upper bounds for the average number of local maxima in k-SAT instances. The method allows us to obtain the upper bound \(2^{n-O(\sqrt{n/k})}\) for the average number of local maxima, if m is in the region of 2 k · n/k.  相似文献

Let f(n) be the largest integer such that every poset on n elements has a 2-dimensional subposet on f(n) elements. What is the asymptotics of f(n)? It is easy to see that f(n) = n 1/2. We improve the best known upper bound and show f(n) = O (n 2/3). For higher dimensions, we show \(f_{d}(n)=\O \left (n^{\frac {d}{d + 1}}\right )\), where f d (n) is the largest integer such that every poset on n elements has a d-dimensional subposet on f d (n) elements.  相似文献

The cube graph Q n is the skeleton of the n-dimensional cube. It is an n-regular graph on 2 n vertices. The Ramsey number r(Q n ;K s ) is the minimum N such that every graph of order N contains the cube graph Q n or an independent set of order s. In 1983, Burr and Erd?s asked whether the simple lower bound r(Q n ;K s )≥(s?1)(2 n ?1)+1 is tight for s fixed and n sufficiently large. We make progress on this problem, obtaining the first upper bound which is within a constant factor of the lower bound.  相似文献

The k-means algorithm is a well-known method for partitioning n points that lie in the d-dimensional space into k clusters. Its main features are simplicity and speed in practice. Theoretically, however, the best known upper bound on its running time (i.e., n O(kd)) is, in general, exponential in the number of points (when kd=Ω(n/log?n)). Recently Arthur and Vassilvitskii (Proceedings of the 22nd Annual Symposium on Computational Geometry, pp. 144–153, 2006) showed a super-polynomial worst-case analysis, improving the best known lower bound from Ω(n) to \(2^{\varOmega (\sqrt{n})}\) with a construction in \(d=\varOmega (\sqrt{n})\) dimensions. In Arthur and Vassilvitskii (Proceedings of the 22nd Annual Symposium on Computational Geometry, pp. 144–153, 2006), they also conjectured the existence of super-polynomial lower bounds for any d≥2.Our contribution is twofold: we prove this conjecture and we improve the lower bound, by presenting a simple construction in the plane that leads to the exponential lower bound 2Ω(n).  相似文献

In this paper we present two upper bounds on the length of a shortest closed geodesic on compact Riemannian manifolds. The first upper bound depends on an upper bound on sectional curvature and an upper bound on the volume of the manifold. The second upper bound will be given in terms of a lower bound on sectional curvature, an upper bound on the diameter and a lower bound on the volume. The related questions that will also be studied are the following: given a contractible k-dimensional sphere in M n , how “fast” can this sphere be contracted to a point, if π i (M n )={0} for 1≤i<k. That is, what is the maximal length of the trajectory described by a point of a sphere under an “optimal” homotopy? Also, what is the “size” of the smallest non-contractible k-dimensional sphere in a (k-1)-connected manifold M n providing that M n is not k-connected?  相似文献

The Ramsey number r(K 3,Q n ) is the smallest integer N such that every red-blue colouring of the edges of the complete graph K N contains either a red n-dimensional hypercube, or a blue triangle. Almost thirty years ago, Burr and Erd?s conjectured that r(K 3,Q n )=2 n+1?1 for every n∈?, but the first non-trivial upper bound was obtained only recently, by Conlon, Fox, Lee and Sudakov, who proved that r(K 3,Q n )?7000·2 n . Here we show that r(K 3,Q n )=(1+o(1))2 n+1 as n→∞.  相似文献

An exclusive-OR sum of pseudoproducts (ESPP) is a modufo-2 sum of products of affine (linear) Boolean functions. The length of an ESPP is defined as the number of summands in this sum; the length of a Boolean function in the class of ESPPs is the minimum length of an ESPP representing this function. The Shannon length function L ESPP(n) on the set of Boolean functions in the class of ESPPs is considered; it is defined as the maximum length of a Boolean function of n variables in the class of ESPPs. It is proved that L ESPP(n) = ? (2 n /n 2). The quantity L ESPP(n) also equals the least number l such that any Boolean function of n variables can be represented as a modulo-2 sum of at most l multiaffine functions.  相似文献

Let f: {-1, 1}n → [-1, 1] have degree d as a multilinear polynomial. It is well-known that the total influence of f is at most d. Aaronson and Ambainis asked whether the total L1 influence of f can also be bounded as a function of d. Ba?kurs and Bavarian answered this question in the affirmative, providing a bound of O(d3) for general functions and O(d2) for homogeneous functions. We improve on their results by providing a bound of d2 for general functions and O(d log d) for homogeneous functions. In addition, we prove a bound of d/(2p) + o(d) for monotone functions, and provide a matching example.  相似文献

The paper considers cubature formulas for calculating integrals of functions f(X), X = (x 1, …, x n ) which are defined on the n-dimensional unit hypercube K n = [0, 1] n and have integrable mixed derivatives of the kind \(\partial _{\begin{array}{*{20}c} {\alpha _1 \alpha _n } \\ {x_1 , \ldots , x_n } \\ \end{array} } f(X)\), 0 ≤ α j ≤ 2. We estimate the errors R[f] = \(\smallint _{K^n } \) f(X)dX ? Σ k = 1 N c k f(X(k)) of cubature formulas (c k > 0) as functions of the weights c k of nodes X(k) and properties of integrable functions. The error is estimated in terms of the integrals of the derivatives of f over r-dimensional faces (rn) of the hypercube K n : |R(f)| ≤ \(\sum _{\alpha _j } \) G j )\(\int_{K^r } {\left| {\partial _{\begin{array}{*{20}c} {\alpha _1 \alpha _n } \\ {x_1 , \ldots , x_n } \\ \end{array} } f(X)} \right|} \) dX r , where coefficients G j ) are criteria which depend only on parameters c k and X(k). We present an algorithm to calculate these criteria in the two- and n-dimensional cases. Examples are given. A particular case of the criteria is the discrepancy, and the algorithm proposed is a generalization of those used to compute the discrepancy. The results obtained can be used for optimization of cubature formulas as functions of c k and X(k).  相似文献

Given a large positive number x and a positive integer k, we denote by Qk(x) the set of congruent elliptic curves E(n): y2= z3- n2 z with positive square-free integers n x congruent to one modulo eight, having k prime factors and each prime factor congruent to one modulo four. We obtain the asymptotic formula for the number of congruent elliptic curves E(n)∈ Qk(x) with Mordell-Weil ranks zero and 2-primary part of Shafarevich-Tate groups isomorphic to(Z/2Z)2. We also get a lower bound for the number of E(n)∈ Qk(x)with Mordell-Weil ranks zero and 2-primary part of Shafarevich-Tate groups isomorphic to(Z/2Z)4. The key ingredient of the proof of these results is an independence property of residue symbols. This property roughly says that the number of positive square-free integers n x with k prime factors and residue symbols(quadratic and quartic) among its prime factors being given compatible values does not depend on the actual values.  相似文献

We give all solutions of the equation f(n) = g(n) + h(n) for every n ∈ ?, where f is a completely multiplicative, g is a 2-additive, and h is a 3-additive function. We also determine all completely multiplicative functions f and all q-additive functions g for which f(n) = g 2(n) for every n ∈ ?.  相似文献

Inspired by Durfee Conjecture in singularity theory, Yau formulated the Yau number theoretic conjecture(see Conjecture 1.3) which gives a sharp polynomial upper bound of the number of positive integral points in an n-dimensional(n≥3) polyhedron. It is well known that getting the estimate of integral points in the polyhedron is equivalent to getting the estimate of the de Bruijn function ψ(x, y), which is important and has a number of applications to analytic number theory and cryptography. We prove the Yau number theoretic conjecture for n = 6. As an application, we give a sharper estimate of function ψ(x, y) for 5≤y 17, compared with the result obtained by Ennola.  相似文献

An exclusive-OR sum of pseudoproducts (ESPP), or a pseudopolynomial over a finite field is a sum of products of linear functions. The length of an ESPP is defined as the number of its pairwise distinct summands. The length of a function f over this field in the class of ESPPs is the minimum length of an ESPP representing this function. The Shannon length function L k ESPP (n) on the set of functions over a finite field of k elements in the class of ESPPs is considered; it is defined as the maximum length of a function of n variables over this field in the class of ESPPs. It is proved that L k ESPP (n) = O(k n /n 2).  相似文献

We consider the problem: Given a set of n vectors in the d-dimensional Euclidean space, find a subsetmaximizing the length of the sum vector. We propose an algorithm that finds an optimal solution to this problem in time O(nd?1(d + logn)). In particular, if the input vectors lie in a plane then the problem is solvable in almost linear time.  相似文献

Suppose each of kn o(1) players holds an n-bit number x i in its hand. The players wish to determine if ∑ ik x i =s. We give a public-coin protocol with error 1% and communication O(k logk). The communication bound is independent of n, and for k≥3 improves on the O(k logn) bound by Nisan (Bolyai Soc. Math. Studies; 1993).  相似文献

We study optimal approximation of stochastic integrals in the Itô sense when linear information, consisting of certain integrals of trajectories of Brownian motion, is available. Upper bounds on the nth minimal error, where n is the fixed cardinality of information, are obtained by the Wagner–Platen algorithm and are O(n ???3/2) or O(n ???2), depending on considered class of integrands. We also show that Ω(n ???2) is a lower bound which holds even for very smooth integrands.  相似文献

The article is devoted to the theory of elliptic functions of level n. An elliptic function of level n determines a Hirzebruch genus called an elliptic genus of level n. Elliptic functions of level n are also of interest because they are solutions of the Hirzebruch functional equations. The elliptic function of level 2 is the Jacobi elliptic sine function, which determines the famous Ochanine–Witten genus. It is the exponential of the universal formal group of the form F(u, v) = (u2 ? v2)/(uB(v) ? vB(u)), B(0) = 1. The elliptic function of level 3 is the exponential of the universal formal group of the form F(u, v) = (u2A(v) ? v2A(u))/(uA(v)2 ? vA(u)2), A(0) = 1, A″(0) = 0. In the present study we show that the elliptic function of level 4 is the exponential of the universal formal group of the form F(u, v) = (u2A(v) ? v2A(u))/(uB(v) ? vB(u)), where A(0) = B(0) = 1 and for B′(0) = A″(0) = 0, A′(0) = A1, and B″(0) = 2B2 the following relation holds: (2B(u) + 3A1u)2 = 4A(u)3 ? (3A12 ? 8B2)u2A(u)2. To prove this result, we express the elliptic function of level 4 in terms of the Weierstrass elliptic functions.  相似文献

Let IK be an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0 complete for an ultrametric absolute value. Following results obtained in complex analysis, here we examine problems of uniqueness for meromorphic functions having finitely many poles, sharing points or a pair of sets (C.M. or I.M.) defined either in the whole field IK or in an open disk, or in the complement of an open disk. Following previous works in C, we consider functions fn(x)fm(ax + b), gn(x)gm(ax + b) with |a| = 1 and nm, sharing a rational function and we show that f/g is a n + m-th root of 1 whenever n + m ≥ 5. Next, given a small function w, if n, m ∈ IN are such that |n ? m| ≥ 5, then fn(x)fm(ax + b) ? w has infinitely many zeros. Finally, we examine branched values for meromorphic functions fn(x)fm(ax + b).  相似文献

For a Lebesgue integrable complex-valued function f defined over the n-dimensional torus \(\mathbb{T}^n \):= [0, 2π) n , let \(\hat f\)(k) denote the Fourier coefficient of f, where k = (k 1, … k n ) ∈ ? n . In this paper, defining the notion of bounded p-variation (p ≧ 1) for a function from [0, 2π] n to ? in two diffierent ways, the order of magnitude of Fourier coefficients of such functions is studied. As far as the order of magnitude is concerned, our results with p = 1 give the results of Móricz [5] and Fülöp and Móricz [3].  相似文献

Let M n(n ≥ 2) be an immersed umbilic-free hypersurface in the (n+1)-dimensional unit sphere S n+1. Then M n is associated with a so-called Möbius metric g, and a Möbius second fundamental form B which are invariants of M nunder the Möbius transformation group of S n+1. In this paper, we classify all umbilic-free hypersurfaces with parallel Möbius second fundamental form.  相似文献
