The paper deals with results of thermal analysis of low-alloyed chromium-molybdenum steel. The methods of analysis were dilatometry, differential thermal analysis (DTA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The Ac1 and Ac3 temperatures of the steel samples measured by dilatometry and DTA during the heating period were in good agreement. Generated by cooling a martensitic structure first became apparent at 503 K. Tempering of the as-quenched samples showed the presence of the second tempering stage in the region between 473 and 573 K. At that stage heat capacity decreased from 0.48 to 0.32 J g-1 K-1, as a result of conversion of transition carbide due to heat consumption. After normalization of the as-quenched samples the heat capacity values were restored to between 0.42 and 0.47 J g-1 K-1 in the temperature range from 373 to 673 K. The heat capacity of poly[carbonyl(ethylene‐co‐propylene)] with 95 mol % C2H4? CO? (Carilon EP®) was measured with standard differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and temperature‐modulated DSC (TMDSC). The integral functions of enthalpy, entropy, and free enthalpy were derived. With quasi‐isothermal TMDSC, the apparent reversing heat capacity was determined from 220 to 570 K, including the glass‐ and melting‐transition regions. The vibrational heat capacity of the solid and the heat capacity of the liquid served as baselines for the quantitative analysis. A small amount of apparent reversing latent heat was found in the melting range, just as for other polymers similarly analyzed. With an analysis of the heat‐flow rates in the time domain, information was collected about latent heat contributions due to annealing, melting, and crystallization. The latent heat decreased with time to an even smaller but truly reversible latent heat contribution. The main melting was fully irreversible. All contributions are discussed in the framework of a suggested scheme of six physical contributions to the apparent heat capacity. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Low temperature heat capacities of N-(p-methylphenyl)-N'-(2-pyridyl)urea were determined by adiabatic calorimetry method in the temperature range from 80 to 370 K. It was found that there was not any heat anomaly in this temperature region. Based on the experimental data, some thermodynamic function results were obtained. Thermal stability and decomposition characteristics analysis of N-(p-methylphenyl)-N'-(2-pyridyl)urea were carried out by DSC and TG. The results indicated that N-(p-methylphenyl)-N'-(2-pyridyl)urea started to melt at ca. 426 K (153°C) and the melting peak located at 447.01 K (173.86°C). The melting enthalpy was 204.445 kJ mol-1 (899.6 J g-1). The decomposition peak of N-(p-methylphenyl)-N'-(2-pyridyl)urea was found at 499.26 K (226.11°C) from DSC curve. This result was similar with that from TG and DTG experiment, in which the mass loss peak was determined as 500.4 K (227.2°C). The double melting behavior of poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) was studied with differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and wide‐angle X‐ray analysis. DSC melting curves of melt‐crystallized PBT samples, which we prepared by cooling from the melt (250 °C) at various cooling rates, showed two endothermic peaks and an exothermic peak located between these melting peaks. The cooling rate effect on these peaks was investigated. The melt‐crystallized PBT sample cooled at 24 K min?1 was heated at a rate of 1 K min?1, and its diffraction patterns were obtained successively at a rate of one pattern per minute with an X‐ray measurement system equipped with a position‐sensitive proportional counter. The diffraction pattern did not change in the melting process, except for the change in its peak height. This suggests that the double melting behavior does not originate from a change in the crystal structure. The temperature dependence of the diffraction intensity was obtained from the diffraction patterns. With increasing temperature, the intensity decreased gradually in the low‐temperature region and then increased distinctly before a steep decrease due to the final melting. In other words, the temperature‐dependence curve of the diffraction intensity showed a peak that is interpreted as proof of the recrystallization in the melting process. The peak temperature was 216 °C. The temperature‐dependence curve of the enthalpy change obtained by the integration of the DSC curve almost coincided with that of the diffraction intensity. The double melting behavior in the heating process of PBT is concluded to originate from the increase of crystallinity, that is, recrystallization. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. In the present study, the effect of the molecular weight and thermal treatments on commercial polyethylene glycols (PEG) samples used in the pharmaceutical processing technology, has been analyzed using DSC and HSM. The molecular weight of these polymers range from 1500 to 200000. Thermal investigations on the melting behavior of original PEG samples (as received from the manufacturer) showed only one single melting DSC endotherm effect before 373 K. This fact was associated to the presence of only one type of polymeric chain. Using standard conditions, PEG samples were solidified from the melt at 373 K, either by flash cooling (using liquid nitrogen and an ice bath) and by slow cooling, soaked and by slow cooling at room temperature. They were further studied by DSC. It was found that after cooling, PEG with molecular weight 1500 and 15000 showed DSC thermograms with a single endothermic peak. However, thermograms for PEG 4000 and 6000 produced a splitted melting endotherm. This fact was attributed to the presence of two types of chains, that are the folded and extended chains.Ageing time influences also the shape of the DSC endothermal effects. It was concluded that the endotherms obtained after heating these PEG indicate that the thermal history determine the structure (extended or folded chain type forms) and the degree of crystallinity, as evidenced by changes in heat of fusion values, melting points and structures after crystallization. The relationships between melting enthalpies and melting points, as deduced from DSC diagrams, with molecular weight of the polymers are also presented.  相似文献

The heat capacity of a linear polyethylene with dimethyl branches, at every 21st backbone atom was analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and quasi-isothermal temperature-modulated DSC. This novel copolyethylene (PE2M) is relatively difficult to crystallize from the melt. On subsequent heating, a first, sharp melting peak is followed by a sharp cold-crystallization and crystal perfection and a smaller endotherm, before reaching the main melting at 315–320 K, close to the melting temperatures of eicosane and tetracontane. The low-temperature melting is sensitive to the cooling rate and disappears below 1.0 K min−1. The cold crystallization can be avoided by heating with rates faster than 80 K min−1. The PE2M exhibits some reversing and reversible melting, which is typical for chain-folded polymers. The glass transition of semicrystalline PE2M is broadened and reaches its upper limit at about 260 K (midpoint at about 0.355 K). Above this temperature, the crystals seem to have a heat capacity similar to that of the liquid. A hypothesis is that the melting transition can be explained by changes in crystal perfection without major alteration of the crystal structure and the lamellar morphology. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The influence of thermal history on morphology, melting, and crystallization behavior of bacterial poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) has been investigated using temperature‐modulated DSC (TMDSC), wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXRD) and polarized optical microscopy (POM). Various thermal histories were imparted by crystallization with continuous and different modulated cooling programs that involved isoscan and cool–heat segments. The subsequent melting behavior revealed that PHB experienced secondary crystallization during heating and the extent of secondary crystallization varied with the cooling treatment. PHB crystallized under slow, continuous, and moderate cooling rates were found to exhibit double melting behavior due to melting of TMDSC scan‐induced secondary crystals. PHB underwent considerable secondary crystallization/annealing that took place under modulated cooling conditions. The overall melting behavior was interpreted in terms of recrystallization and/or annealing of crystals. Interestingly, the PHB analyzed by temperature modulation programs showed a broad exotherm before the melting peak in the nonreversing heat capacity curve and a multiple melting reversing curve, verifying that the melting–recrystallization and remelting process was operative. WAXRD and POM studies supported the correlations from DSC and TMDSC results. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 44: 70–78, 2006  相似文献

Synthesis and thermal behavior of a new high-energy organic potassium salt   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A new high-energy organic potassium salt, 1-amino-1-hydrazino-2,2-dinitroethylene potassium salt [K(AHDNE)], was synthesized by reacting of 1-amino-1-hydrazino-2,2-dinitroethylene (AHDNE) and potassium hydroxide in methanol aqueous solution. The thermal behavior of K(AHDNE) was studied using DSC and TG/DTG methods and can be divided into three obvious exothermic decomposition processes. The decomposition enthalpy, apparent activation energy and pre-exponential factor of the first decomposition process were ?2662.5?J?g?1, 185.2?kJ?mol?1 and 1019.63 s?1, respectively. The critical temperature of thermal explosion of K(AHDNE) is 171.38?°C. The specific heat capacity of K(AHDNE) was determined using a micro-DSC method, and the molar heat capacity is 208.57?J?mol?1 K?1 at 298.15?K. Adiabatic time-to-explosion of K(AHDNE) was also calculated. K(AHDNE) presents higher thermal stability than AHDNE.  相似文献

The heat capacity of poly(trimethylene terephthalate) (PTT) has been analyzed using temperature‐modulated differential scanning calorimetry (TMDSC) and compared with results obtained earlier from adiabatic calorimetry and standard differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Using quasi‐isothermal TMDSC, the apparent reversing and nonreversing heat capacities were determined from 220 to 540 K, including glass and melting transitions. Truly reversible and time‐dependent irreversible heat effects were separated. The extrapolated vibrational heat capacity of the solid and the total heat capacity of the liquid served as baselines for the analysis. As one approaches the melting region from lower temperature, semicrystalline PTT shows a reversing heat capacity, which is larger than that of the liquid, an observation that is common also for other polymers. This higher heat capacity is interpreted as a reversible surface or bulk melting and crystallization, which does not need to undergo molecular nucleation. Additional time‐dependent, reversing contributions, dominating at temperatures even closer to the melting peak, are linked to reorganization and recrystallization (annealing), while the major melting is fully irreversible (nonreversing contribution). © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. This paper studies the effect of molecular mass on the melting temperature, enthalpy and entropy of hydroxy-terminated poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO). It aims to correlate the thermal behaviour of PEO polymers and their variation of molecular mass (MW). Samples ranging from 1500 to 200,000 isothermally treated at 373 K during 10 min, were investigated using DSC and Hot Stage Microscopy (HSM). On the basis of DSC and HSM results, melting temperatures were determined, and melting enthalpies and entropies were calculated. Considering the melting temperatures, it was found that the maximum or critical value of MW was found around 4000, and then these remain almost constant. This behaviour was interpreted assuming that lower MW fractions (MW<4000) crystallize in the form of extended chains and higher MW fractions (MW>4000), as folded chains. The melting enthalpies showed a scattering effect at least up to MW 35,000. It was difficult to obtain any relationship between melting enthalpies in J g–1 and MW. These variations seem to be of statistical nature. Corrected enthalpy data on a molar basis (kJ mol–1) exhibited a linear relationship with MW. Considering the solid—liquid equilibrium, the melting entropies (in kJ mol–1) were calculated. These values were more negative as compared with molar enthalpy increases. It was explained because the changes in melting temperatures are much smaller than those observed in the enthalpy values. Linear relationship between enthalpies andentropies as a function of MW was deduced. This revised version was published online in November 2005 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The specific heat and the enthalpy variation of a highly deuterated crystal of ferroelectric triglycine selenate have been measured around its first-order phase transition using the technique square modulated differential thermal analysis (SMDTA). The low temperature variation rate has allowed analyzing the kinetics of the phase transition. Due to an internal crack in the sample, the transition is carried out in two steps and an intermediate region where the transition is blocked and both phases coexist without transformation has been found. The latent heat on cooling (L c=1.32±0.02 J g–1) is higher than on heating (L h=1.08±0.02 J g–1) due to the thermal hysteresis and the great difference between the specific heat in both phases. Nevertheless, the enthalpy balance is fulfilled on heating and on cooling.  相似文献

The heat capacity and the enthalpy increments of strontium metaniobate SrNb2O6 were measured by the relaxation method (2-276 K), micro DSC calorimetry (260-320 K) and drop calorimetry (723-1472 K). Temperature dependence of the molar heat capacity in the form C pm=(200.47±5.51)+(0.02937±0.0760)T-(3.4728±0.3115)·106/T 2 J K−1 mol−1 (298-1500 K) was derived by the least-squares method from the experimental data. Furthermore, the standard molar entropy at 298.15 K S m0 (298.15 K)=173.88±0.39 J K−1 mol−1 was evaluated from the low temperature heat capacity measurements. The standard enthalpy of formation Δf H 0 (298.15 K)=-2826.78 kJ mol−1 was derived from total energies obtained by full potential LAPW electronic structure calculations within density functional theory.  相似文献

Polytetrafluoroethylenes of different crystallinity were analyzed between 220 and 700 K by differential scanning calorimetry. A new computer coupling of the standard DSC is described. The measured heat capacity data were combined with all literature data into a recommended set of thermodynamic properties for the crystalline polymer and a preliminary set for the amorphous polymer (heat capacity, enthalpy, entropy, and Gibbs energy; range 0–700 K). The crystal heat capacities have been linked to the vibrational spectrum with a θ3 of 54 K, and θ1 of 250 K, and a full set of group vibrations. Cv to Cp conversion was possible with a Nernst–Lindemann constant of A = 1.6 × 10?3 mol K/J. The glass transition was identified as a broad transition between 160 and 240 K with a ΔCp of 9.4 J/K mol. The room-temperature transitions at 292 and 303 K have a combined heat of transition of 850 J/mol and an entropy of transition of 2.90 J/K mol. The equilibrium melting temperature is 605 K with transition enthalpy and entropy of 4.10 kj/mol and 6.78 J/K mol, respectively. The high-temperature crystal from is shown to be a condis crystal (conformationally disordered), and for the samples discussed, the crystallinity model holds.  相似文献

The thermal behaviour of salicylsalicylic acid (CAS number 552-94-3) was studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The endothermic melting peak and the fingerprint of the glass transition were characterised at a heating rate of 10°C min-1. The melting peak showed an onset at T on = 144°C (417 K) and a maximum intensity at T max = 152°C (425 K), while the onset of the glass transition signal was at T on = 6°C. The melting enthalpy was found to be ΔmH = 28.9±0.3 kJ mol-1, and the heat capacity jump at the glass transition was ΔC P = 108.1±0.1 J K-1mol-1. The study of the influence of the heating rate on the temperature location of the glass transition signal by DSC, allowed the determination of the activation energy at the glass transition temperature (245 kJ mol-1), and the calculation of the fragility index of salicyl salicylate (m = 45). Finally, the standard molar enthalpy of formation of crystalline monoclinic salicylsalicylic acid at T = 298.15 K, was determined as ΔfHm o(C14H10O5, cr) = - (837.6±3.3) kJ mol-1, by combustion calorimetry. The melting temperature, melting enthalpy, and specific heat capacities (C p) of 5′-deoxy-5′-iodo-2′,3′-O-isopropylidene-5-fluorouridine (DIOIPF) were measured using DSC-60 Differential Scanning Calorimetry. The melting temperature and melting enthalpy were obtained to be 453.80 K and 33.22 J g?1, respectively. The relationship between the specific heat capacity and temperature was obtained to be C p/J g?1 K?1 = 2.0261 – 0.0096T + 2 × 10?5 T 2 at the temperature range from 320.15 to 430.15 K. The thermal decomposition process was studied by the TG–DTA analyzer. The results showed that the thermal decomposition temperature of DIOIPF was above 487.84 K, and the decomposition process can be divided into three stages: the first stage is the decomposition of impurities, the mass loss in the second stage may be the sublimation of iodine and thermal decomposition process of the side-group C4H2O2N2F, and the third stage may be the thermal decomposition process of both the groups –CH3 and –CH2OCH2–. The obtained thermodynamic basic data are helpful for exploiting new synthetic method, engineering design, and commercial process of DIOIPF.  相似文献

Poly(2-methylpentamethylene terephthalamide) (Nylon M5T) is a new high temperature aromatic polyamide developed by Hoechst Celanese. In this paper thermal properties of Nylon M5T chips, as well as as-spun and drawn fibers were studied by DSC, DMA, hot stage microscopy and WAXS.T g of the fully amorphous Nylon M5T is 143°C when measured by DSC;T g increases with crystallinity to 151°C. The temperature dependence of the solid and melt specific heat capacities has also been determined. The heat capacity increase at the glass transition of the amorphous polymer is 103.9 J °C–1 mol–1.T g by DMA for the as-spun fiber is 155°C, for a drawn fiber is 180°C. Three secondary transitions were observed by DMA in addition to the glass transition. These correspond to a local mode relaxation of the methylene groups at –120°C, onset of rotation of the amide-groups at –65°C and the onset of the rotation of the phenylenegroups (at 63°C). The crystallinity of Nylon M5T strongly depends on the rate of cooling from the melt. The isothermal crystallization data are melt temperature dependent: two-dimensional crystallization takes place when the samples are crystallized from higher melt temperatures, and this phase changes into a spherulitic structure during cooling to room temperature. Spherulitic crystallization occurs when lower melt temperatures are used. This polymer has three crystal forms as indicated by DSC, DMA and WAXS data. The crystal to crystal transitions are clearly visible when amorphous samples are heated in the DSC, or the DMA curves of as-spun fibers are recorded. It is experimentally shown that a considerable melting of the lower temperature crystal forms takes place during the crystal to crystal transitions. The equilibrium melting point as measured by the Hoffman-Weeks method, has been determined to be 339°C.Dedicated to Professor Bernhard Wunderlich on the occasion of his 65th birthday  相似文献

Using XRY-1C calorimeter, the standard molar enthalpy of taurine was determined to be ?2546.2?kJ?mol?1 . The reliability of the instrument used was tested by using naphthalene as reference material; and through comparing the molar combustion enthalpy of naphthalene measured with its standard value found in literature, the absolute error and relative error were found to be 4.53?kJ?mol?1 and 0.09%, respectively. The melting point and melting enthalpy of taurine were determined by Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), which was found to be 588.45?K and ?22.197?kJ?mol?1, respectively. Moreover, using the DSC method, the specific heat capacities C p of taurine was measured and the relationship between C p and temperature was established. The thermodynamic basic data obtained are available for the exploiting new synthesis method, engineering design and industry production of taurine.  相似文献

The response of a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) to sawtooth-type temperature modulation has been analyzed in the time domain using a standard treatment of the DSC data without Fourier transformation into the frequency domain. This method has some of the advantages of a temperature-modulated DSC (TMDSC) and may achieve a reasonable accuracy with more transparent and less time-consuming data analysis than the current TMDSC. The limits of linearity and stationarity of the thermal response, a prerequisite for the validity of the calculation of the reversing heat capacity by Fourier transformation, can be easily recognized in standard DSC. In contrast to the common handling of TMDSC, where the non-reversing contributions are calculated as difference between the total and reversing parts, we define a new, directly measured quantity, called the imbalance in heat capacity. It represents the difference between heating and cooling due to the non-reversing thermal process. This quantity is also of value for the representation of irreversible contributions inquasi-isothermal processes, such as cold crystallization and the annealing of crystallites in the melting range. The crystallisation kinetics, melting behaviour and morphology, of bacterial poly(3-hydoxybutyrate) (PHB) have been investigated by using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), step-scan DSC (SDSC), wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXRD) and hot stage polarised optical microscopy (HSPOM). DSC imparted isothermal crystallisation thermal history. The subsequent melting behaviour revealed that all PHB materials experienced secondary crystallisation during heating and the extent of secondary crystallisation varied depending on the crystallisation temperature. PHB samples were found to exhibit double melting behaviour due to melting of SDSC scan-induced secondary crystals, while considerable secondary crystallisation or annealing took place under the modulated heating conditions. The overall melting behaviour was rationalised in terms of recrystallisation and/or annealing of crystals. Interestingly, the PHB materials analysed by SDSC showed a broad exotherm before the melting peak in the non-reversing curve and a multiple melting peak reversing curve, verifying that the melting-recrystallisation and remelting process was operative. HSOM studies supported the conclusions from DSC that the radial growth rate of the PHB spherulites was significantly varied upon the crystallisation conditions. One form of crystals was shown by WAXRD from isothermally crystallised PHB.  相似文献
