Although the spin-reorientation transition from out-of-plane to in-plane in Fe/Si film is widely reported, the tuning of in-plane spin orientation is not yet well developed. Here, we report the thickness-, temperature- and Cu-adsorptioninduced in-plane spin-reorientation transition processes in Fe/Si(557) film, which can be attributed to the coexistence of two competing step-induced uniaxial magnetic anisotropies, i.e., surface magnetic anisotropy with magnetization easy axis perpendicular to the step and volume magnetic anisotropy with magnetization easy axis parallel to the step. For Fe film thickness smaller than 32 monolayer(ML), the magnitudes of two effects under various temperatures are extracted from the thickness dependence of uniaxial magnetic anisotropy. For Fe film thickness larger than 32 ML, the deviation of experimental results from fitting results is understood by the strain-relief-induced reduction of volume magnetic anisotropy.Additionally, the surface and volume magnetic anisotropies are both greatly reduced after covering Cu capping layer on Fe/Si(557) film while no significant influence of Na Cl capping layer on step-induced magnetic anisotropies is observed. The experimental results reported here provide various practical methods for manipulating in-plane spin orientation of Fe/Si films and improve the understanding of step-induced magnetic anisotropies.  相似文献

We study S=1 kagome antiferromagnets with an isotropic Heisenberg exchange J and strong easy-axis single-ion anisotropy D. For D>J, the low-energy physics can be described by an effective S=1/2 XXZ model with antiferromagnetic Jz approximately J and ferromagnetic J perpendicular approximately J2/D. Exploiting this connection, we argue that nontrivial ordering into a "spin-nematic" occurs whenever D dominates over J, and discuss its experimental signatures. We also study a magnetic field induced transition to a magnetization plateau state at magnetization 1/3 which breaks lattice translation symmetry due to ordering of the Sz and occupies a lobe in the B/Jz-Jz/J perpendicular phase diagram.  相似文献

Classical microscopic spin reorientation phase transitions (RPT) are the result of competing magnetocrystalline anisotropies. RPTs can also be observed in discrete macroscopic systems induced by competing shape anisotropies and magnetostatic coupling. Such a configurational RPT was recently observed in series of self-organized hexagonal arrays of 2.5 μm long, 25-60 nm diameter circular permalloy nanowires grown in anodic alumina matrix. This RPT is a crossover transition from a one-dimensional easy axis “wire” behavior of weakly interacting uniaxial nanowires to a two-dimensional behavior of strongly coupled “wire film” having an easy plane anisotropy. It is shown that RPT takes place due to the competition between the intrinsic dipolar forces in individual wires and the external dipolar field of interacting nanowires in the array. The crossover occurs at a volume ratio of 0.38 for 65 nm periodicity. The experimental results are in agreement with the semi-analytical calculations of the dipolar interaction fields for these arrays of circular ferromagnetic nanowires, and are interpreted in terms of the Landau phase transition theory. The conditions for the crossover and the order of the phase transition are established. Based on the contribution to the magnetic energy from the flower state at the ends of the wires, it is concluded that the observed transition is of the first order.  相似文献

The magnetization distribution is considered in a thin ferromagnetic film of a thickness near the critical value, for which the continuous phase transition from the homogeneous magnetization state to the domain structure appears. The easy axis of the magnetization is perpendicular to the film plane and the anisotropy constant β < 4π. On the basis of the self-consistent theory the vortex-like magnetization distribution in the interdomain wall was obtained. The value of the critical thickness, the period of the domain structure and the amplitudes of the magnetization vector components as dependent on the film parameters were derived.  相似文献

The evolution of the magnetic states in nanostructures with competing surface and bulk anisotropies was studied under a variation in the applied magnetic field. For spatially uniform magnetic states, the energy functional reduces to the energy of a bulk magnet in which the effective anisotropy depends on the thickness of the ferromagnetic layer. This dependence results in spin reorientation as the nanolayer thickness varies. The lines of first-order phase transitions and the equilibrium parameters of multidomain structures and domains of competing phases were determined. The calculated magnetic phase diagrams are used to analyze magnetic states and to construct magnetization curves.  相似文献

Abstract

Following the Bogoliubov variational principle, the equilibrium and stability equations of the free energy for the two sublattice antiferromagnetic system with inter- and intrasublattice exchange interactions and with an external magnetic field are investigated. For the Ising spin system with uniaxial anisotropy, the phase diagrams have been calculated for various values of anisotropy constant d and the ratio of intra- to intersublattice interaction constants γ. It is shown that first-order, as well as second-order transitions, occur for γ > 0, whereas only a second-order transition occurs for γ ≦ 0, irrespective of the sign of d. Furthermore, similar calculations are extended for the anisotropic Heisenberg spin system and quite interesting phase diagrams have been obtained. Next, the effects of the anisotropic exchange interactions on the magnetic ordered states and the magnetizations of the singlet ground state system of spin one and with a uniaxial anisotropy term are investigated in the vicinity of the level crossing field H ? D/gμ B . A field-induced ordered state without the transverse component of magnetization is shown to appear in a certain range of magnetic field as the spin dimensionality decreases. It has also turned out that the phase transition between this ordered state and the canted antiferromagnetic state ordinarily found for the isotropic singlet ground state system is of first order. Lastly, the stable spin configurations at a temperature of absolute zero for a two-sublattice uniaxial antiferromagnet under an external magnetic field of arbitrary direction are studied. In particular, the effects of a single ionic anisotropy D-term and anisotropy in the exchange interactions on the magnetic phases are investigated. The antiferromagnetic state has turned out to appear only for the external magnetic field along the easy axis of sublattice magnetization, and makes a first-order phase transition to the canted-spin state or the ferromagnetic state. For other field directions, no antiferromagnetic state appears and only a second-order phase transition between the canted-spin and the ferromagnetic states occurs. The critical field as a function of external field direction has been calculated for several D-values.  相似文献

This paper reports on the results of a theoretical investigation into the magnetic and resonance properties of thin films in the range of the transition from a paramagnetic state to a ferromagnetic state in the case where the magnetic transition is a first-order phase transformation. It is demonstrated that, in an external magnetic field directed perpendicular to the film plane, the formation of a specific domain structure consisting of domains of the coexisting paramagnetic and ferromagnetic phases can appear to be energetically favorable. The parameters of the equilibrium system of stripe phase domains and their dependences on the temperature, the magnetic field, and the characteristics of the material are calculated. The specific features of the magnetic resonance spectra under the conditions of formed stripe phase domains are considered. A relationship is derived for the dependence of the resonance field of the system of ferromagnetic domains on the magnetization and temperature. It is shown that the alternating external field can fulfill an orientation function in the formation of stripe phase domains.  相似文献

The spin configurations of two dimensional ferromagnetic/antiferromagnetic system were investigated using model calculations and Monte-Carlo simulation methods. The lowest energy state was obtained under various coupling conditions to investigate the role of interfacial interaction on anisotropy. We found that the total ferromagnetic layer anisotropy is contributed not only from its own crystalline anisotropy but also from the antiferromagnetic layer spin flop effect. The overall ferromagnetic layer effective anisotropy is calculated as a function of the exchange energy of antiferromagnetic layer and the interfacial interaction energy. If the effective anisotropy from the spin flop effect is comparable with the crystalline anisotropy, the asymmetric spin configuration is generated. In this configuration, the magnetization direction of the ferromagnetic layer is neither perpendicular nor parallel to the antiferromagnetic spin direction. Temperature effect on the perpendicular-to-collinear coupling transition was also investigated using Monte-Carlo simulation, and the relationship between the effective anisotropy and the temperature was obtained.  相似文献

The magnetic ground state, magnetic anisotropies and spin excitations of surfaces, interfaces and ultra-thin films of ferromagnetic 3d-metals are discussed. Enhanced magnetic ground state moments and altered hyperfine fields as predicted by ab initio band calculations have not been conclusively verified by experiments up to now. Future calculations should take into account dipolar fields and the role of interface roughness. Very large magnetic anisotropies are observed at magnetic surfaces and interfaces. In Ni/Cu multilayered films, the superposition of surface and stress-induced anisotropies was used to switch the easy axis of magnetization from the film plane to a perpendicular orientation by a proper choice of the Ni layer thickness. This could be an attractive possibility to develop new magnetic materials for technical applications. The temperature dependence of the spontaneous magnetization at surfaces and in ultra-thin films deviates from the behaviour of bulk material. Size effects as well as surface effects of spin wave excitations are discussed, comparing theoretical and experimental results. The need for more complete theories including surface exchange, surface anisotropy and realistic surface structures is emphasized.  相似文献

It is found that the magnetization reversal of an array of superthin Co films coupled by the ferromagnetic exchange interaction through the Ag layers may result in a domain structure of an unexpected new type. Due to the incoherent different-sense spin rotation upon lowering the field perpendicular to the easy axis, the specific macrodomains first form in a sample. They are separated not by the Neél domain wall but by a wide transition region containing high-density microdomains of sizes correlating with the grain sizes in the films. Further magnetization reversal proceeds through the formation of standard domain walls in the macrodomain in a magnetostatic field at the plate edge and through their shifting toward the transition region. These processes are explained with taking into account the character of the revealed magnetic anisotropy dispersion.  相似文献

It is important to control magnetic anisotropy of ferromagnetic materials. In this work, FeCo thin films are deposited on the curving substrates by electrochemical deposition to adjust the stress-induced magnetic anisotropy. The compressive stress is produced in the as-deposited films after the substrates are flattened. A simplified theoretical model of ferromagnetic resonance is utilized to measure the intrinsic magnetic anisotropy field and saturation magnetization. The results show that the stress-induced magnetic anisotropy and the resonance frequency increase with the increase of substrate curvature. The induced easy axis is perpendicular to the compressive stress direction.  相似文献

The magnetic properties of a mixed spin-3/2 and spin-2 and a mixed spin-3/2and spin-5/2 Ising ferromagnetic system with different anisotropies are studied by means of mean-field theory (MFT). The dependence of the phase diagram on single-ion anisotropy strengths is studied too. In the mixed spin-3/2 and spin-2 Ising model, besides the second-order phase transition, the first order-disorder phase transition and the tricritical line are found. In the mixed spin-3/2 and spin-5/2 Ising model, there is no first-order transition and tricritical line.  相似文献

We report experimental evidence for a transition in the interface coupling between an antiferromagnetic film and a ferromagnetic substrate. The transition is observed in a thin epitaxial NiO film grown on top of Fe(001) as the film thickness is increased. Photoemission electron microscopy excited with linearly polarized x rays shows that the NiO film is antiferromagnetic at room temperature with in-plane uniaxial magnetic anisotropy. The anisotropy axis is perpendicular to the Fe substrate magnetization when the NiO thickness is less than about 15 A, but rapidly becomes parallel to the Fe magnetization for a NiO coverage higher than 25 A.  相似文献

The magnetic anisotropy and magnetization reversal of single crystal Fe films with thickness of 45 monolayer (ML) grown on Si(111) have been investigated by ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). Owing to the significant modification of the energy surface in remanent state by slight misorientation from (111) plane and a uniaxial magnetic anisotropy, the azimuthal angular dependence of in-plane resonance field shows a six-fold symmetry with a weak uniaxial contribution, while the remanence of hysteresis loops displays a two-fold one. The competition between the first and second magnetocrystalline anisotropies may result in the switching of in-plane easy axis of the system. Combining the FMR and VSM measurements, the magnetization reversal mechanism has also been determined.  相似文献

The theory of magnetization in a longitudinal magnetic field is developed for an easy-plane multisublattice antiferromagnet with a singlet ground state and a strong single-ion anisotropy exceeding the magnitude of exchange interaction. The magnetic-field-induced phase transition from the singlet (magnetically dis-ordered) state to a multisublattice antiferromagnetic state represents a displacive magnetic phase transition. At T=0, this transition proceeds continuously and belongs to second-order phase transitions, while at T ≠0, the behavior changes to jumplike and the process becomes the first-order phase transition.  相似文献

Micromagnetic and analytical models are used to investigate how in-plane uniaxial anisotropy affects transverse and vortex domain walls in nanowires where shape anisotropy dominates. The effect of the uniaxial anisotropy can be interpreted as a modification of the effective wire dimensions. When the anisotropy axis is aligned with the wire axis (θ(a) = 0), the wall width is narrower than when no anisotropy is present. Conversely, the wall width increases when the anisotropy axis is perpendicular to the wire axis (θ(a) = π/2). The anisotropy also affects the nanowire dimensions at which transverse walls become unstable. This phase boundary shifts to larger widths or thicknesses when θ(a) = 0, but smaller widths or thicknesses when θ(a) = π/2.  相似文献

The magnetization distributions in a symmetric magnetic film nanocontact for oppositely magnetized ferromagnetic electrodes are analyzed based on numerically solving the Landau-Lifshitz and magnetostatic equations as a function of magnetic and geometrical factors. It is found that a symmetric magnetic configuration is unstable when the head-to-head domain wall dividing the regions with opposite orientations of magnetization is located at the center of the nanocontact. The instability arises when the uniaxial magnetic anisotropy constant reaches a certain critical value K c below which it spontaneously leaves the center of the nanocontact. The transition from the symmetric state (wall at the center) to an asymmetric one can be continuous (second order) or discrete (first order), depending on the geometrical and physical parameters of the nanocontact (length to width ratio, anisotropy constant, and saturation magnetization). The phase diagram is constructed in terms of the variable’s nanocontact length vs. anisotropy constant. This diagram divides the symmetric and asymmetric magnetic configurations of the system. The occurrence of a tricritical point in the phase diagram is its characteristic feature.  相似文献

The precession dynamics of the magnetization of a film with in-plane uniaxial anisotropy in the case of its biasing along the hard magnetization axis has been analyzed by numerically solving the Landau-Lifshitz equations. It has been revealed that the ferromagnetic resonance spectrum near the magnetic anisotropy field exhibits an additional peak, which is associated with the angular bistability due to the presence of two symmetric angular equilibrium positions. The trajectories of precession motion during biasing along the hard magnetization axis differ substantially from the trajectories corresponding to the biasing along the easy axis.  相似文献
