We investigate the dual solutions for the MHD flow of micropolar fluid over a stretching/shrinking sheet with heat transfer. Suitable relations transform the partial differential equations into the ordinary differential equations.Closed forms solutions are also obtained in terms of confluent hypergeometric function. This is the first attempt to determine the exact solutions for the non-linear equations of MHD micropolar fluid model. It is demonstrated that the microrotation parameter helps in increasing Nusselt number and the dual solutions exist for all fluid flow parameters under consideration. The dual behavior of dimensionless velocity, temperature, microrotation, skin-friction coefficient, local Nusselt number is displayed on graphs and examined.  相似文献

An extensive investigation is performed to reveal the flow and heat transfer characteristics of a thermomicropolar hybrid nanofluid over a shrinking surface. For a wide range of physical parameters, the dual solutions of the shear stress, gradient of microrotation and heat transfer are presented. When the dual solutions fail to occur beyond a critical value of the shrinking parameter, the boundary layer separation takes place. However, this causes mechanical damages to a system. The critical values of the shrinking parameter, shear stress, gradient of microrotation and heat transfer are expressed in explicit functions of the physical parameters. Results show that these functions can predict the solutions with a good accuracy. Since these expressions can easily be used in order to identify the drawbacks of a system with a wide range of flow parameters, it might play an important role for the development of technologies.  相似文献

An analysis is presented to study the dual nature of solutions for the forced convective boundary layer flow and heat transfer in a cross flow with viscous dissipation terms in the energy equation. The governing equations are transformed into a set of three self-similar ordinary differential equations by similarity transformations. These equations are solved numerically using the very efficient shooting method. This study reveals that the dual solutions of the transformed similarity equations for velocity and temperature distributions exist for certain values of the moving parameter, Prandtl number, and Eckert numbers. The reverse heat flux is observed for larger Eckert numbers; that is, heat absorption at the wall occurs.  相似文献

A mathematical model is developed for steady state magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) heat and mass transfer flow along an inclined surface in an ocean MHD energy generator device with heat generation and thermo-diffusive (Soret) effects. The governing equations are transformed into nonlinear ordinary differential equations with appropriate similarity variables. The emerging two-point boundary value problem is shown to depend on six dimensionless thermophysical parameters - magnetic parameter, Grashof number, Prandtl number, modified Prandtl number, heat source parameter and Soret number in addition to plate inclination. Numerical solutions are obtained for the nonlinear coupled ordinary differential equations for momentum, energy and salinity (species) conservation, numerically, using the Nachtsheim–Swigert shooting iteration technique in conjunction with the Runge–Kutta sixth order iteration scheme. Validation is achieved with Nakamura's implicit finite difference method. Further verification is obtained via the semi-numerical Homotopy analysis method (HAM). With an increase in magnetic parameter, skin friction is depressed whereas it generally increases with heat source parameter. Salinity magnitudes are significantly reduced with increasing heat source parameter. Temperature gradient is decreased with Prandtl number and salinity gradient (mass transfer rate) is also reduced with modified Prandtl number. Furthermore, the flow is decelerated with increasing plate inclinations and temperature also depressed with increasing thermal Grashof number.  相似文献

Present study investigates entropy generation analysis for peristaltic motion of hybrid nanofluid. Hybrid nanofluid is composed of iron-oxide and copper nanoparticles suspended in water. Effects of Hall current, Ohmic heating and mixed convection are taken into account. Governing equations are simplified by utilizing lubrication approach. The numerical solutions for resulting system of differential equations are obtained with the aid of Shooting method. Attention has been given to the analysis of hybrid nanoparticles, Hall parameter and Grashoff number on entropy generation, heat transfer rate, velocity profile and pressure gradient. Outcomes reveal that insertion of nanoparticles decreases the temperature of hybrid nanofluid. It is found that increase in Hall parameter reduces the heat transfer rate at wall. Increment in Hall parameter reduces the entropy generation. Velocity and pressure gradient increases by enhancing Grashoff number. It is believed that the present flow model can prove useful in improving the efficiency of similar thermodynamical systems.  相似文献

The phenomena of heat and mass transfer during the flow of non-Newtonian transfer are amongst the core subjects in mechanical sciences. Recently, the nanomaterials are among the eminent tools for improving the low thermal conductivity of working fluids. Therefore, in view of the existing contributions, this article presents a two-dimensional numerical simulation for the transient flow of a non-Newtonian nanofluid generated by an expanding/contracting circular cylinder. This critical review further explores the impacts of variable magnetic field, thermal radiation, velocity slip and convective boundary conditions. The basic governing equations for Williamson fluid flow are formulated with the assistance of boundary layer approximations. The non-dimensional form of partially coupled ordinary differential equations has been tackled numerically by utilizing versatile Runge–Kutta integration scheme. The momentum, thermal and concentration characteristics are investigated with respect to several critical parameters, like, Weissenberg number, unsteadiness parameter, viscosity ratio parameter, slip parameter, suction parameter, magnetic parameter, thermophoresis parameter, Brownian motion parameter, Prandtl number, Lewis number and Biot number. The outcomes of the systematic reviews of these parameters and forest plots are illustrated. The study reveals that multiple solutions for the considered problem occurs for diverse values of involved physical parameters. The computed results indicate that the friction and heat transfer coefficients are significantly raised by the magnetic parameter for upper branch solutions.  相似文献

The present paper studies the flow and heat transfer of the hybrid nanofluids flows induced by a permeable power-law stretching/shrinking surface modulated orthogonal surface shear. The governing partial differential equations were converted into non-linear ordinary differential equations by using proper similarity transformations. These equations were then solved applying a numerical technique, namely bvp4c solver in MATLAB. Results of the flow field, temperature distribution, reduced skin friction coefficient and reduced Nusselt number were deduced. It was found that increasing mass flux parameter slows down the velocity and, hence, decreases the temperature. Furthermore, on enlarging the stretching parameter, the velocity and temperature increases and decreases, respectively. In addition, that the radiation parameter can effectively control the thermal boundary layer. Finally, the temperature decreases when the values of the temperature parameter increases. We apply similarity transformation in order to transform the governing model into a system of ODEs (ordinary differential equations). Numerical solutions for particular values of involved parameters are in very good agreement with previous calculations. The most important and interesting result of this paper is that for both the cases of shrinking and stretching sheet flows exhibit dual solutions in some intervals of the shrinking and stretching parameter. In spite of numerous published papers on the flow and heat transfer over a permeable stretching/shrinking surface in nanofluids and hybrid nanofluids, none of the researchers studied the present problem. Therefore, we believe that the results of the present paper are new, and have many industrial applications.  相似文献

An analysis is carried out to study the steady two-dimensional stagnation-point flow and heat transfer from a warm, laminar liquid flow to a melting stretching/shrinking sheet. The governing partial differential equations are converted into ordinary differential equations by similarity transformation, before being solved numerically using the Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg method. Results for the skin friction coefficient, local Nusselt number, velocity profiles as well as temperature profiles are presented for different values of the governing parameters. Effects of the melting parameter, stretching/shrinking parameter and Prandtl number on the flow and heat transfer characteristics are thoroughly examined. Different from a stretching sheet, it is found that the solutions for a shrinking sheet are non-unique.  相似文献

Heat and mass transport properties in the neighbourhood of stagnation region are analyzed in this paper where the region is created by the motion of Casson nanofluid inside a porous space. Porous space bounded by a sheet from one side is modeled by Darcy-Forchheimer rule, and is under the influence of heat source/sink and normal magnetic field. The developed mathematical model is solved for numerical solutions by the application of Runge-Kutta scheme due to Fehlberg along with Newton Raphson Shooting approach. This model is further reduced to Blasius and Sakiadis type flows to correlate them. For the validation of code and results, a comparison graph is prepared. Solutions depicted by figures and tables, reveal that velocity is declined in Sakiadis flow with Casson parameter however opposite nature is noted for Blasius flow. In Blasius flow, it is observed that temperature is greater and concentration is lower if compared with Sakiadis flow.  相似文献

A boundary layer analysis is presented for non-Newtonian fluid flow and heat transfer over a nonlinearly stretching surface. The Casson fluid model is used to characterize the non-Newtonian fluid behavior. By using suitable transformations, the governing partial differential equations corresponding to the momentum and energy equations are converted into non-linear ordinary differential equations. Numerical solutions of these equations are obtained with the shooting method. The effect of increasing Casson parameter is to suppress the velocity field. However the temperature is enhanced with the increasing Casson parameter.  相似文献

A novel finite volume method is developed to investigate the axisymmetric convection flow and heat transfer of fractional viscoelastic fluid past a vertical cylinder. Fractional cylindrical governing equations are formulated by fractional Maxwell model and generalized Fourier's law. The velocity slip and temperature jump boundary conditions are considered across the fluid-solid interface. Numerical results are validated by exact solutions of special case with source terms. The effects of fractional derivative parameter and boundary condition parameters on flow and heat transfer characteristics are discussed. The viscoelastic fluid performs evident shear thickening property in the fractional Maxwell constitutive relation. Moreover, the boundary condition parameters have remarkable influence on velocity and temperature distributions.  相似文献

The hydromagnetic convective boundary layer flow past a stretching porous wall embedded in a porous medium with heat and mass transfer in the presence of a heat source and under the influence of a uniform magnetic field is studied. Exact solutions of the basic equations of motion, heat and mass transfer are obtained after reducing them to nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The reduced equations of heat and mass transfer are solved using a confluent hypergeometric function. The effects of the flow parameters such as a suction parameter (N), magnetic parameter (M), permeability parameter (K p ), wall temperature parameter (r), wall concentration parameter (n), and heat source/sink parameter (Q) on the dynamics are discussed. It is observed that the suction parameter appears in the boundary condition ensuring the variable suction at the surface. Transverse component of the velocity increases only when magnetic field strength exceeds certain value, but the thermal boundary layer thickness and concentration distribution increase for all values. Results presented in this paper are in good agreement with the work of the previous author and also in conformity with the established theory.  相似文献

The steady flow and heat transfer over a moving thin needle with prescribed surface heat flux is studied. The similarity equations are obtained by using similarity transformation technique. The problem is solved numerically using the boundary value problem solver (bvp4c) in Matlab software. The plots of the skin friction coefficient and the local Nusselt number as well as the velocity and temperature profiles are presented and their behaviors are discussed for different values of the needle size and the velocity ratio parameter. Results show that the decreasing of the needle size enhance the skin friction coefficient and the local Nusselt number on the needle surface. It is found that dual solutions exist (upper and lower branches) for a certain range of the velocity ratio parameter. A stability analysis of the solutions are performed and it shows that the upper branch solution is stable, while the lower branch solution is unstable.  相似文献

The nanofluid and porous medium together are able to fulfill the requirement of high cooling rate in many engineering problems. So, here the impact of various shapes of nanoparticles on unsteady stagnation-point flow of Cu-H2O nanofluid on a flat surface in a porous medium is examined. Moreover, the thermal radiation and viscous dissipation effects are considered. The problem governing partial differential equations are converted into self-similar coupled ordinary differential equations and those are numerically solved by the shooting method. The computed results can reveal many vital findings of practical importance. Firstly, dual solutions exist for decelerating unsteady flow and for accelerating unsteady and steady flows, the solution is unique. The presence of nanoparticles affects the existence of dual solution in decelerating unsteady flow only when the medium of the flow is a porous medium. But different shapes of nanoparticles are not disturbing the dual solution existence range, though it has a considerable impact on thermal conductivity of the mixture. Different shapes of nanoparticles act differently to enhance the heat transfer characteristics of the base fluid, i.e., the water here. On the other hand, the existence range of dual solutions becomes wider for a larger permeability parameter related to the porous medium. Regarding the cooling rate of the heated surface, it rises with the permeability parameter, shape factor (related to various shapes of Cu-nanoparticles), and radiation parameter. The surface drag force becomes stronger with the permeability parameter. Also, with growing values of nanoparticle volume fraction, the boundary layer thickness (BLT) increases and the thermal BLT becomes thicker with larger values of shape factor. For decelerating unsteady flow, the nanofluid velocity rises with permeability parameter in the case of upper branch solution and an opposite trend for the lower branch is witnessed. The thermal BLT is thicker with radiation parameter. Due to the existence of dual solutions, a linear stability analysis is made and it is concluded that the upper branch and unique solutions are stable solutions.  相似文献

An analysis of the MHD Couette flow on taking into account the Hall and the ion-slip effects has been carried out for fully developed flow. Exact solutions to the velocity components, magnetic field components, axial and transverse components of the skin-friction, temperature and the rate of heat transfer have been derived. The numerical values of the transverse induced pressure gradient, the skin friction and the rate of heat transfer are entered in tables and the others have been shown on graphs. It has been observed that the flow may become unstable when M is small and ?e (Hall parameter) and ?i (ion-slip parameter) are large or at large value of M.  相似文献

The Ellipsoidal Statistical model (ES-model) and the Shakhov model (S-model) were constructed to correct the Prandtl number of the original BGK model through the modification of stress and heat flux. With the introduction of a new parameter to combine the ES-model and S-model, a generalized kinetic model can be developed. This new model can give the correct Navier-Stokes equations in the continuum flow regime. Through the adjustment of the new parameter, it provides abundant dynamic effect beyond the ES-model and S-model. Changing the free parameter, the physical performance of the new model has been tested numerically. The unified gas kinetic scheme (UGKS) is employed for the study of the new model. In transition flow regime, many physical problems, i.e., the shock structure and micro-flows, have been studied using the generalized model. With a careful choice of the free parameter, good results can be achieved for most test cases. Due to the property of the Boltzmann collision integral, the new parameter in the generalized kinetic model cannot be fully determined. It depends on the specific problem. Generally speaking, the S-model predicts more accurate numerical solutions in most test cases presented in this paper than the ES-model, while ES-model performs better in the cases where the flow is mostly driven by temperature gradient, such as a channel flow with large boundary temperature variation at high Knudsen number.  相似文献

The authors scrutinize the steady, MHD flow of SiO2−MoS2/water hybrid nanofluid towards two different geometries i.e. a wedge and a cone. The Tiwari and Das model is implemented with a generalized–Fourier's model, popularized as Cattaneo-Christov heat flux model. Analysis of heat transfer also incorporates the effects of suction, heat generation and thermal radiation. To showcase the relationship between engineering quantities and pertinent parameters involved in the study, the correlation coefficient for heat transfer coefficient and the skin friction coefficient is computed followed by the computation of probable error and statistical declaration. Similarity transformations are utilized to remodel the constitutive laws of flow in non-dimensional form. Numerical computation of non-linear, coupled O.D.E.’s is performed with the support of the Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg scheme and shooting method. Graphical and tabular illustrations of computed results are provided to report the variation in flow properties with the fluctuation in physical parameters. In both cases, i.e. flow close to a wedge and a cone, the temperature of hybrid nanofluid enhances on intensifying the thermal radiation and experiences a decrement with thermal relaxation parameter and magnetic field. Rising values of the suction parameter, thermal relaxation parameter, and thermal radiation cause increment in heat transfer coefficient. Interestingly, it was spotted that the heat generation parameter has contrary effects on temperature distribution over the two geometries.  相似文献

This work is focused on the effect of heat and mass transfer with unsteady natural convection flow of viscous fluid along with ramped wall temperature under the assumption of the slip wall condition at the boundary. Analytical solutions are obtained by using Laplace transformation to the non-dimensional set of governing equations containing velocity, temperature and concentration. Moreover, the expression for skin-friction is derived by differentiating the analytical solutions of fluid velocity. Numerical tables for Skin-friction, Sherwood number and Nusselt-number are examined. For the physical aspects of the flow, we use various values of involved physical parameters such as Prandtl number (Pr), slip parameter ($\eta$), Schmidt number (Sc), buoyancy ratio parameter ($N$), Sherwood number (Sh), and time $(t)$. Additionally, the general solutions are plotted graphically and a comprehensive theoretical section of numerical discussions is included.  相似文献

Mathematical model for Maxwell fluid flow in rotating frame induced by an isothermal stretching wall is explored numerically. Scale analysis based boundary layer approximations are applied to simplify the conservation relations which are later converted to similar forms via appropriate substitutions. A numerical approach is utilized to derive similarity solutions for broad range of Deborah number. The results predict that velocity distributions are inversely proportional to the stress relaxation time. This outcome is different from that observed for the elastic parameter of second grade fluid. Unlike non-rotating frame, the solution curves are oscillatory decaying functions of similarity variable. As angular velocity enlarges, temperature rises and significant drop in the heat transfer coefficient occurs. We note that the wall slope of temperature has an asymptotically decaying profile against the wall to ambient ratio parameter. From the qualitative view point, temperature ratio parameter and radiation parameter have similar effect on the thermal boundary layer. Furthermore, radiation parameter has a definite role in improving the cooling process of the stretching boundary.A comparative study of current numerical computations and those from the existing studies is also presented in a limiting case. To our knowledge, the phenomenon of non-linear radiation in rotating viscoelastic flow due to linearly stretched plate is just modeled here.  相似文献

A class of nonlinear problems of non-stationary radiation-convective heat transfer under the conditions of microwave action with a small depth of penetration is considered in a forced laminar flow of liquid around a flat plane. The solutions to these problems are obtained using the effective asymptotic procedures at the successive stages of nonstationary and stationary radiation-convective heat transfer on the heat-radiating horizontal plane. The non-stationary and stationary stages of solution are matched using the “longitudinal coordinate-time” characteristic. The solutions constructed on such principles correlate reliably with the exact ones at the limiting values of such parameters as a small and large intensity of external thermal impact, small and large times, etc. The error of solutions does not exceed 1–7 %. As the plate is removed from the leading edge of the plate due to heat radiation, convective heat transfer degenerates from values characteristic of the boundary condition of the second kind to the values characteristic of the boundary condition of the first kind. A strong effect on the nature of variations of the surface temperature and Nusselt number of the complex parameter of microwave and thermal radiation is noted. An important advantage of the developed method for solving this class of external problems is that even before complex calculations it is possible to perform an exhaustive analysis of the fundamental laws of the processes under study. Despite a number of initial simplifications, the latter do not significantly affect the accuracy of results, guaranteeing reliable quantitative information. The developed method can also be extended to the regimes of forced convection with linear dependence of physical properties on temperature using transformation of A.A. Dorodnitsyn. To confirm adequacy of the constructed mathematical model, stationary radiation-convective heat transfer under the forced flow around a flat plate was studied experimentally. The results of comparison of the theoretical and experimental data show that they are in a good agreement. This again confirms the effectiveness of the developed method for constructing theoretical solutions to the nonlinear problems of forced convection using the asymptotic procedures.  相似文献
