This paper deals with the asymptotic investigation of a nonlinear differential equation with variable time delay. We impose some growth restrictions on the nonlinear delayed term and introduce certain auxiliary differential and functional nondifferential equations. Then some comparison results are given and applied to particular cases of the studied nonlinear equation. Received: January 9, 2006. Revised: October 29, 2007.  相似文献

A technique based on the reduction of order for solving differential equations is employed to investigate a generalized nonlinear Boussinesq wave equation. The compacton solutions, solitons, solitary pattern solutions, periodic solutions and algebraic travelling wave solutions for the equation are expressed analytically under several circumstances. The qualitative change in the physical structures of the solutions is highlighted.  相似文献

A numerical technique for solving nonlinear ordinary differential equations on a semi-infinite interval is presented. We solve the Thomas–Fermi equation by the Sinc-Collocation method that converges to the solution at an exponential rate. This method is utilized to reduce the nonlinear ordinary differential equation to some algebraic equations. This method is easy to implement and yields very accurate results.  相似文献

An improved generalized F-expansion method is proposed to seek exact solutions of nonlinear evolution equations. With the aid of symbolic computation, we choose the generalized nonlinear Schrodinger equation with a source to illustrate the validity and advantages of the proposed method. Many new and more general non-travelling wave solutions are obtained, including single and combined non-degenerate Jacobi elliptic function solutions, solitons-like solutions, trigonometric function solutions and rational solutions. The method is straightforward and concise, and it can also be applied to other nonlinear evolution equations in physics.  相似文献

Approximations are derived for both nonlinear heat equations and singularly perturbed nonlinear wave equations with highly oscillating random force on boundary and strong interaction. By a diffusion approximation method, if the interaction is large and the singular perturbation is small enough, the approximation of the nonlinear wave equation is an one dimensional stochastic ordinary differential equation with white noise from the boundary which is exactly the same as that of the nonlinear heat equation.  相似文献

We consider the semistrong limit of pulse interaction in a thermally driven, parametrically forced, nonlinear Schrödinger (TDNLS) system modeling pulse interaction in an optical cavity. The TDNLS couples a parabolic equation to a hyperbolic system, and in the semistrong scaling we construct pulse solutions which experience both short-range, tail-tail interactions and long-range thermal coupling. We extend the renormalization group (RG) methods used to derive semistrong interaction laws in reaction-diffusion systems to the hyperbolic-parabolic setting of the TDNLS system. A key step is to capture the singularly perturbed structure of the semigroup through the control of the commutator of the resolvent and a re-scaling operator. The RG approach reduces the pulse dynamics to a closed system of ordinary differential equations for the pulse locations.  相似文献

In this paper, the first integral method is used to construct exact solutions of the Hamiltonian amplitude equation and coupled Higgs field equation. The first integral method is an efficient method for obtaining exact solutions of some nonlinear partial differential equations. This method can be applied to nonintegrable equations as well as to integrable ones.  相似文献

Using the solutions of an auxiliary differential equation, a direct algebraic method is described to construct several kinds of exact travelling wave solutions for some Wick-type nonlinear partial differential equations. By this method some physically important nonlinear equations are investigated and new exact travelling wave solutions are explicitly obtained. In addition, the links between Wick-type partial differential equations and variable coefficient partial differential equations are also clarified generally.  相似文献

We present some topological isomorphisms between Wm,p((0,1)) and Lp((0,1))×Rm. Combined with some arguments from Fourier analysis, we obtain explicit Schauder bases for Wm,p((0,1)) and some of its subspaces. In addition, we apply such results to treat some boundary value problems involving nonlinear elliptic differential equations.  相似文献

Modulating pulse solutions play a big rôle in modern long distance high speed communication. Such solutions consist of a traveling pulse-like envelope modulating an underlying electromagnetic wave. In this paper we show that under certain assumptions such solutions exist and are dynamically stable for the associated nonlinear partial differential equations, namely Maxwells integro-differential equations describing nonlinear optics. The analysis is worked out in detail for bulk media, and we discuss how the results extend to optical fibers and to parametrically forced systems.  相似文献

This paper studies the stability of a family of traveling wave solutions to the system proposed by Lane et al. [D.C. Lane, J.D. Murray, V.S. Manoranjan, Analysis of wave phenomena in a morphogenetic mechanochemical model and an application to post-fertilization waves on eggs, IMA J. Math. Appl. Med. Biol. 4 (4) (1987) 309-331], to model a pair of mechanochemical phenomena known as post-fertilization waves on eggs. The waves consist of an elastic deformation pulse on the egg's surface, and a free calcium concentration front. The family is indexed by a coupling parameter measuring contraction stress effects on the calcium concentration. This work establishes the spectral, linear and nonlinear orbital stability of these post-fertilization waves for small values of the coupling parameter. The usual methods for the spectral and evolution equations cannot be applied because of the presence of mixed partial derivatives in the elastic equation. Nonetheless, exponential decay of the directly constructed semigroup on the complement of the zero eigenspace is established. We show that small perturbations of the waves yield solutions to the nonlinear equations decaying exponentially to a phase-modulated traveling wave.  相似文献

We study power series whose coefficients are holomorphic functions of another complex variable and a nonnegative real parameter s, and are given by a differential recursion equation. For positive integer s, series of this form naturally occur as formal solutions of some partial differential equations with constant coefficients, while for s=0 they satisfy certain perturbed linear ordinary differential equations. For arbitrary s?0, these series solve a differential-integral equation. Such power series, in general, are not multisummable. However, we shall prove existence of solutions of the same differential-integral equation that in sectors of, in general, maximal opening have the formal series as their asymptotic expansion. Furthermore, we shall indicate that the solutions so obtained can be related to one another in a fairly explicit manner, thus exhibiting a Stokes phenomenon.  相似文献

An integrating factor mixed with Runge-Kutta technique is a time integration method that can be efficiently combined with spatial spectral approximations to provide a very high resolution to the smooth solutions of some linear and nonlinear partial differential equations. In this paper, the novel hybrid Fourier-Galerkin Runge-Kutta scheme, with the aid of an integrating factor, is proposed to solve nonlinear high-order stiff PDEs. Error analysis and properties of the scheme are provided. Application to the approximate solution of the nonlinear stiff Korteweg-de Vries (the 3rd order PDE, dispersive equation), Kuramoto-Sivashinsky (the 4th order PDE, dissipative equation) and Kawahara (the 5th order PDE) equations are presented. Comparisons are made between this proposed scheme and the competing method given by Kassam and Trefethen. It is found that for KdV, KS and Kawahara equations, the proposed method is the best.  相似文献

We present the existence of the subsonic solution to a two-dimensional Riemann problem governed by a self-similar nonlinear wave equation where the boundary of the subsonic region consists of a transonic shock and the sonic circle. Thus the governing equation becomes a free boundary problem on the transonic shock and degenerates on the sonic circle. By utilizing the barrier methods and iterative methods, we show the well-posedness of the transonic shock in the entire subsonic region and thus establish the global solution. This result does not rely on any smallness of Riemann data.  相似文献

We consider an abstract Cauchy problem for a system of nonhomogeneous abstract differential equations in Hilbert spaces. The “main” equation is of the second order and “boundary” equations are of the first order. Existence of a solution is proved. Application to mixed (initial boundary-value) problems for one-dimensional second order hyperbolic equations and for fourth order PDEs with the time derivative in boundary conditions has been shown. We consider monotone semigroups in ordered spaces and give general results concerning the existence of extremal equilibria and global attractors. We then show some applications of the abstract scheme to various evolutionary problems, from ODEs and retarded functional differential equations to parabolic and hyperbolic PDEs. In particular, we exhibit the dynamical properties of semigroups defined by semilinear parabolic equations in RN with nonlinearities depending on the gradient of the solution. We consider as well systems of reaction-diffusion equations in RN and provide some results concerning extremal equilibria of the semigroups corresponding to damped wave problems in bounded domains or in RN. We further discuss some nonlocal and quasilinear problems, as well as the fourth order Cahn-Hilliard equation.  相似文献

Four symbolic programs, in Macsyma or Mathematica language, are presented. The first program tests forthe existence of solitons for nonlinear PDEs. It explicitly constructs solitons using Hirota's bilinear method. In the second program, the Painlevé integrability test for ODEs and PDEs is implemented. The third program provides an algorithm to compute conserved densities for nonlinear evolution equations. The fourth software package aids in the computation of Lie symmetries of systems of differential and difference-differential equations. Several examples illustrate the capabilities of the software.Research supported in part by NSF under Grant CCR-9300978.  相似文献

In this paper, the first integral method combined with Liu's theorem is applied to integrate a new coupled nonlinear Schrodinger type equation. Using this combination, more new exact traveling wave solutions are obtained for the considered equation using ideas from the theory of commutative algebra. In addition, more solutions are also obtained via the application of semi-inverse variational principle due to Ji-Huan He. The used approaches with the help of symbolic computations via Mathematica 9, may provide a straightforward effective and powerful mathematical tools for solving nonlinear partial differential equations in mathematical physics.  相似文献
