Thewidth (chain number) of a partial order P, < is the smallest cardinal such that ¦A¦< 1 + whenever A is an antichain (chain) in P. We prove that, if a partial order (P, <) has width and cf()=, then P contains antichains An (n<) such that ¦A 0¦<¦A1¦ <...<={¦An¦: n < < } and either A01 A2< ... or A0>A1 >A2> ... A similar structure result is obtained for partial orders with chain number if cf()=. As an application we solve a problem of van Douwen, Monk and Rubin [1] by showing that if a Boolean algebra has width , thencf() .This work has been partially supported by NATO grant No. 339/84.Presented by Bjarni Jonsson.  相似文献

We find conditions under which the ratio of particle and antiparticle total scattering cross sections as s. If the forward elastic scattering amplitudes become purely real asymptotically, then their ratio tends to –1. We prove that /(s)1 for +(s)/m 2, where m is the -meson mass. We show that the asymptotic relations obtained have finite-energy analogues for some processes.  相似文献

Summary Consider a random walk S n on the integers, where the steps i have mean 0 and variance 2. Let T be the time of first self-intersection of the random walk. It is shown that, as , T grows at rate 2/3. More precisely, T2/3 has a non-degenerate limit distribution which can be described in terms of Brownian motion local time.Research supported by National Science Foundation Grant MCS80-02698.  相似文献

Let be a semilocal ring (a factor ring with respect to the Jacobson-Artin radical) for which the residue field C/m of its center C with respect to each maximal idealmC contains no fewer than seven elements. The structure of subgroups H in the full linear group GL(n, ) containing the group of diagonal matrices is considered. The main theorem: for any subgroup H there is a uniquely determined D-net of ideals such that G()HN(), whereN() is the normalizer of the D-net subgroup . A transparent classification of subgroups GL(n, ) normalizable by diagonal matrices is thus obtained. Further, the factor groupN()/G() is studied.Translated from Zapiski Nauchnykh Seminarov Leningradskogo Otdeleniya Matematicheskogo Instituta im. V. A. LetX be the solution of the SDE:dX t = (X t)dB t +b(X t)dt, with andb C b (R) such that >0 for some constant , andB a real Brownian motion. Let be the law ofX onE=C([0, 1],R) andk E* – {0}, whereE* is the topological dual space ofE. Consider the classical form: k (u, v)=u / kv / kd, whereu andv are smooth functions onE. We prove that, if k is closable for anyk in a dense subset ofE* and if the smooth functions are contained in the domain of the generator of the closure of k , must be a constant function.  相似文献

We obtain asymptotic estimates of meromorphic solutions to the differential equationP n (z, , )=P n–1 (z, , ,..., (m) ) in the angular domain P={z: arg z · }. Here Pn(z, w, w) is a polynomial in all variables, and of degree n with respect to w and w; Pn–1(z, w, w, ..., w(m)) is a polynomial in all variables, and of degree n –1 with respect to w, w, ..., w(m) In the particular case, when the solutions are entire functions, these estimates are more precise than the known estimates that are obtained by using the method of Wiman-Valiron, which cannot be applied to meromorphic solutions in the domain P.Translated from Ukrainskii Matematicheskii Zhurnal, Vol. 44, No. 4, pp. 514–523, April, 1992.  相似文献

A Singer cycle in GL(n,q) is an element of order q permuting cyclically all the nonzero vectors. Let be a Singer cycle in GL(2n,2). In this note we shall count the number of lines in PG (2n-1,2) whose orbit under the subgroup of index 3 in the Singer group is a spread. The lines constituting such a spread are permuted cyclically by the group 3, hence gives rise to a flag-transitive 2-(22n ,4,1) design.  相似文献

We study (set-valued) mappings of bounded -variation defined on the compact interval I and taking values in metric or normed linear spaces X. We prove a new structural theorem for these mappings and extend Medvedev's criterion from real valued functions onto mappings with values in a reflexive Banach space, which permits us to establish an explicit integral formula for the -variation of a metric space valued mapping. We show that the linear span GV (I;X) of the set of all mappings of bounded -variation is automatically a Banach algebra provided X is a Banach algebra. If h:I× X Y is a given mapping and the composition operator is defined by (f)(t)=h(t,f(t)), where tI and f:I X, we show that :GV (I;X) GV (I;Y) is Lipschitzian if and only if h(t,x)=h0(t)+h1(t)x, tI, xX. This result is further extended to multivalued composition operators with values compact convex sets. We prove that any (not necessarily convex valued) multifunction of bounded -variation with respect to the Hausdorff metric, whose graph is compact, admits regular selections of bounded -variation.  相似文献

Let > 0 be an integer. A projective -fibre space is formed by a covering of a projective geometry with -1 isomorphic geometries. The double elliptic space (Sphärischer Raum) is an example of a 2-fibre space. This note deals with projective -fibre spaces which are structured by multy valued orderfunctions (This notion was introduced by W. JUNKERS [2] for projective geometries) the range of which is a group G. If such an ordered -fibre space has the property ¦G¦=, it is called projective G-fibre space. It is proved that the desarguesian projective G-fibre spaces V are exactly those, which are induced by a vector space S over a field K (commutative or not) having a normal subgroup P K*(·) with K* P such that GK*/P and SV*/P. This theorem is a generalization of the well-known case P=K*.  相似文献

The fundamental result: for an arbitrary bounded, simply connected domain in , the subspace Ln,m p() of the space Lp(, ) ( is the plane Lebesgue measure, p 1), consisting of the (m, n)-analytic functions in , is complemented in LP(, ) (a function f is said to be (m, n)-analytic if (m+n/¯ZmZn)f=0 in ). Consequently, by virtue of a theorem of J. Lindenstrauss and A. Pelczyski, the space Ln,m P() is linearly homeomorphic to lP. In particular, for m=n=1 we obtain that the space of all harmonic LP-functions in is complemented in LP(, ). This result has been known earlier only for smooth domains.Translated from Zapiski Nauchnykh Seminarov Leningradskogo Otdeleniya Matematicheskogo Instituta im. V. A. This paper is devoted to results belonging to the theory of rational approximation of analytic functions. We study the rate of decrease of the best approximations n of a functionf holomorphic in a disk ¦z ¦z¦< , >1> by rational functions of order at most n in the uniform metric on the unit disk with center at z=0. We prove theorems that connect the rate of decrease of the quantities n with the order 0 and type 0 of the functionf. The proofs of these results are based on the methods of the theory of Hankel operators.Translated fromMatematichni Metodi ta Fiziko-Mekhanichni Polya, Vol. 40, No. 4, 1997, pp. 32–39.The author is grateful to Prof. V. We study the subgroups of the full linear group GL(n, R) over a Dedekind ring R that contain the group of quasidiagonal matrices of fixed type with diagonal blocks of at least third order, each of which is generated by elementary matrices. For any such subgroup H there exists a unique D-net of ideals of R such that, where E() is the subgroup generated by all transvections of the net subgroup G(). and is the normalizer of G(). The subgroup E() is normal in. To study the factor group we introduce an intermediate subgroup F(), E() F() G(). The group is finite and is connected with permutations in the symmetric group. The factor group G()/F() is Abelian — these are the values of a certain determinant. In the calculation of F()/E() appears the SK1-functor. Results are stated without proof.Translated from Zapiski Nauchnykh Seminarov Leningradskogo Otdeleniya Matematicheskogo Instituta im. V. A. Steklova AN SSSR, Vol. 94, pp. 13–20, 1979.  相似文献
