A theoretical investigation is presented of scattering characteristics of a perfectly conducting spherical object placed inside a quasi-optical transmission line of the millimeter and submillimeter waves in the form of a circular hollow dielectric waveguide (HDW). From the analytical expressions obtained, backscattering and extinction cross sections of this object are derived via the excitation coefficient of the dominantHE 11 mode of the circular HDW and the HDW geometrical parameters. The agreement of the results with the corresponding data for the scattering of a plane homogeneous wave is shown.  相似文献

The problem of the approximation of the HE11 radiation pattern by a Gaussian distribution is discussed. A numerical comparison between the HE11 far-field theoretical pattern, and the Gaussian approximations derived by Abrams and by Crenn, permits and evaluation of the precision of these approximations. A new optimized HE11 Gaussian approximation is calculated: the value of ro=0.421a (or wo=0.596a) for the beam radius at the waist is demonstrated to give the best HE11 Gaussian approximation in the far-field and is very close to the result given by Crenn, while the Abrams value is less precise. The calculations are extended to the near-field. Universal curves for intensity, amplitude and power distribution are given for the HE11 radiated mode. These results are of interest for laser waveguide applications and for plasma ECRH transmission systems.  相似文献

Measurements have been done in the millimeter wave region on a composite waveguide which comprises a dielectric rod waveguide connecting two metal rectangular waveguides. Such a waveguide has been used by us in a Josephson harmonic mixer installed in a small metal cryostat, to prevent the thermal invasion from outside environment and to transmit both signal and LO waves with small losses. The measured transmission loss, that is caused mainly by the coupling loss between metal rectangular waveguides (TE10 mode) and a dielectric rod waveguide (HE11 mode), has been less than 2dB in the frequency range of 52–104 GHz.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a generic mode theory for the three-layer cylindrical waveguides consisting of three arbitrary material mediums. Based on derived eigenvalue equations of the TE, TM, and hybrid modes, the mode conditions of metal/dielectric-coated terahertz hollow waveguides are extracted. In addition, we quantitatively describe both the effective refractive indexes and the loss characteristics of the aurum/polystyrene-coated terahertz hollow waveguides operating at the TE01, TM01, and HE11 modes. It is indicated that the loss coefficient of the TE01 mode can be much lower than that of the TM01, and HE11 modes, and, especially, can tend to that of the terahertz wave in air. So the TE01 mode is very significant for the hollow waveguides in term of low loss propagating of the terahertz wave. We expect these results to enable a variety of new long-distance THz applications in sensing, detecting and communicating.  相似文献

Experimental measurements by wavepacket reflectometry are carried out to verify the low transmission loss of hybrid mode on HE11 in the corrugated waveguide with 88.9 mm in diameter. The HE11 mode is injected into the 62-m straight circular corrugated waveguide and the beat between the HE11 and HE21 (including degenerated TE01 and TM02) modes is observed. The loss is too small to measure and inferred to be less than 2 db/km. The result shows that the use of HE11 mode for electron cyclotron heating system is suitable.  相似文献

在波束波导和反射面天线的馈源应用中, 为了产生低副瓣且方向图等化的高斯波束, 需要将高功率微波转换为准高斯模HE11模辐射. 本文利用弯曲圆波导可同时从TM01模产生TE11模和TM11模的原理, 提出了采用双弯曲过模圆波导结构直接将TM01转换为HE11的模式变换器, 避免了常规微波领域中首先将TM01转换为TE11再用波纹式或半径渐变式TE11-HE11转换器转换为准高斯波束功率容量不足或尺寸过长的不足. 基于模式耦合理论和Taguchi优化算法对模式变换器的弯曲半径、相移直端长度及引入位置进行了优化, 使输出的TE11和TM11成一定比率, 以组成HE11模式, 并对设计的模式变换器进行了全电磁波仿真分析, 结果表明输出波束的标量高斯含量在9.05–9.8 GHz范围内均高于99%, 理论功率容量可达4.5 GW. 关键词: 高功率微波 模式耦合理论 Taguchi优化算法 模式变换器  相似文献

Linearly polarized fundamental mode Gaussian beams were generated and coupled to a hollow circular oversized dielectric waveguide by placing the waist of the beam at the guide entrance. The transmission properties of the waveguide were characterized as a function of frequency for a variety of coupling conditions. These conditions included changes in the input beam waist radius, angle of incidence, and displacement perpendicular and parallel to the guide axis. It has been found that: 1.) power transmission is maximized when the waist of the input beam is centered at the guide input, injected normally, and has a radius of 0.43 times the waveguide radius, 2.) power transmission decreases rapidly with increasing angle of incidence and the rate of that loss increases with frequency, 3.) the waveguide preserves the linear polarization of the input beam, 4.) power transmission in the fundamental waveguide mode is not greatly affected by moderate displacements in the input beam position, and 5.) upon exit from the waveguide the launched EH11 mode propagates as a fundamental mode Gaussian beam in the quasi-far field. The results compare favorably to the transmission theory of Belland and Crenn and approximately to the near and far field mode pattern theory of Degnan.  相似文献

Using convenient parameters, the mode propagation constants in hollow circular waveguides with low-conductivity wall material are derived into practical formulas. The variations of these propagation constants versus electrical characteristics of the wall material are studied. The results allow the determination of optimal materials for low-loss mode transmission and the improvements achieved with these optimal materials compared to the usual dielectrical materials are pointed out. Application to the particular case of ordinary glass as a guide wall material is made. The condition to have the fundamental EH11 mode the less attanuated is given.  相似文献

We report on the optical coupling between hollow core waveguides and external cavity mid-IR quantum cascade lasers (QCLs). Waveguides with 1000???m bore size and lengths ranging from 2 to 14?cm, with metallic (Ag)/dielectric (AgI or polystyrene) circular cross-section internal coatings, have been employed. Our results show that the QCL mode is perfectly matched to the hybrid HE11 waveguide mode, demonstrating that the internal dielectric coating thickness is effective to suppress the higher losses TE-like modes. Optical losses down to 0.44?dB/m at 5.27???m were measured in Ag/polystyrene-coated waveguide with an almost unitary coupling efficiency.  相似文献

A theory is presented describing the infrared pump beam propagation in circular waveguides of OPFIRLs. Based upon a ray representation of the Gaussian beam, the overall transport of pump power into the gas by nonlinear absorption and into the wall of the waveguide by partial reflections can be balanced. The condition of the single fundamental mode (HE11) transmission in hollow core Bragg fibres is investigated theoretically by the transfer matrix method. The influences of core size and cladding parameters on the single HE11 mode bandwidth are analysed, showing that the maximal bandwidth is more sensitive to the core size than the cladding. The numerical results show that sufficiently broad bandwidth of single HE11 mode transmission can be achieved by proper fibre design. A simple and fast method based on improved hollow metal waveguide model is proposed to optimize fibre structure parameters for the maximal single HE11 mode bandwidth.  相似文献

In this paper the coupling between two closely spaced single mode dielectric rod waveguides is investigated when the corresponding propagation axes are not in the same plane. An approximate analysis is presented by assuming only first order interaction between the guided waves. For a given incident HE11 mode (in one of the rod waveguides) the coupled wave amplitudes are computed in the other waveguide for both propagation directions. The transmission losses of different modes in gaps in oversized waveguides are calculated using a modified scattering matrix formalism. Measurements performed for the modes TE01, TE11, TM01, TM11 and HE11 are in good agreement with the calculated numerical results. A Gaussian beam entering an hollow oversized circular waveguide of dielectric or low-conductivity wall material is considered: a simple formula giving the optimal beam charac-teristics for the lowest losses in the guide is derived from an optical theory. This optimization depends on the geometry and the wall material of the guide. The formula is valid for small beam diameters at the guide entrance and for low losses inside the guide, which are conditions corresponding to usual cases. Physical interpretations are given. Comparisons with some experimental results show a good agreement with the theory. These results are of interest for waveguides lasers and waveguide transmission lines.  相似文献

When neglecting space harmonics and higher-order slot modes, the attenuation characteristic of corrugated circular groove waveguide has been investigated. Here, we present our calculation results of the electromagnetic field distributions and the dispersion characteristics of open cylindrical tube waveguides. The analyzed waveguides are made of the onion-like carbon (OLC) material. The solution of the boundary problem was fulfilled by the partial area method (Nickelson et al. in electrodynamical analysis of open lossy metamaterial waveguide and scattering structures. InTech, UK, pp 27–58 [1]). We have determined the complex roots of the dispersion equation using of the Muller method. It discovered the very complicated dependencies of the phase and attenuation constants on the waveguide radii. Such dependencies arise because the OLC material is the highly dispersive and absorbing one. We have investigated the high-frequency cutoff frequency of the propagating hybrid modes HE11 and HE12 dependent on the tube waveguide external and internal radii. We found that it is possible to reach the one-mode regime of OLC tube waveguide.  相似文献

A new scheme of quasi-optical HE11 mode exciter is presented. It consists of a smooth rectangular horn, dielectric focusing lens and output waveguide section. The main advantages of the converter are frequency broad band operation and simple design. Results of measurements of converter parameters performed at millimeter waves agree well with the design parameters: total conversion efficiency exceeds 96% in the frequency band of 20%.  相似文献
