Abstract

In this study the effect of the dose and particle size of the adsorbent, initial dye concentration, initial pH, contact time and temperature were investigated for the removal of by means of fly ash (FA) methylene blue (MB) from an aqueous solution. The FA dose was found to be 2.0?g and the under 270 mesh sized particles were found to be effective particles for adsorption. The adsorption process reached its maximum value at 0.5?mg/L dye concentration and attained equilibrium within 10?minutes. The adsorption isotherm was found to follow the Langmuir model. The estimated adsorption free energy (ΔGo), enthalpy change (ΔHo), and entropy change (ΔSo) for the adsorption process were ?37.77?kJ mol?1, ?13.44?kJ mol?1 and 122 J mol?1 K?1 respectively at 298 K. The maximum adsorption capacity is 0,12?mg g?1 at 298 K and 0,07?mg g?1 at 398 K. The adsorption process was exothermic, feasible and spontaneous. The positive value of ΔSo shows the affinity of FA for MB while the low value of ΔGo suggests a physical adsorption process.  相似文献

CuO supported on an NaA zeolite (CuO/NaA) was prepared with an NaA zeolite through the ion-exchange (CuO/NaA) method. The morphology and the physicochemical properties of the prepared samples were investigated by XRD, MEB, and EDS. The various parameters, such as contact time, catalyst dose, initial dye concentration, initial pH, and temperature, influencing the adsorption of methyl orange (MO) were optimized. The MO adsorption equilibrium was reached after 240 min of contact time. Removal of MO is better at neutral pH than in acidic and alkaline solutions. Among the tested models, the equilibrium adsorption data are well fitted by the Langmuir isotherm. The adsorption kinetics is best described by the pseudo-second-order model. The evaluation of the thermodynamic parameters, i.e. ΔGo, ΔHo, and ΔSo, revealed that MO adsorption was spontaneous, while the activation energy (20.98 kJ/mol) indicates a physical adsorption. The photodegradation of MO decreased from 100 mg/L down to 2 mg/L when the solution is exposed to visible light.  相似文献

In this paper, how chitosan hydrogel beads were modified by anionic surfactants (SDS, SDOS, SDBS, AOT, and DTM-12) and then used for the adsorption and removal of an anionic dye (congo red) from aqueous solutions were described. The effect of surfactant concentration, surfactant ionic head-group, and surfactant hydrophobic tail were investigated in detail. The result revealed the modified CS beads all had the obviously higher adsorption capacity than CS beads. Compared to the ionic head-group, the hydrophobic tail of the surfactant plays more important role in the adsorption, and a high adsorption capacity was observed for CS/AOT beads and CS/DTM-12 beads (both with two hydrophobic tails). The Sips isotherm model showed a good fit with the equilibrium experimental data, and the values of the heterogeneity factor (n) indicated heterogeneous adsorption. The adsorption kinetics analysis indicated that the pseudo-second-order rate model could better describe the adsorption process than the pseudo-first-order rate model.  相似文献

Adsorption of acid blue 1 from aqueous solution onto carbonaceous substrate produced from the wood of Paulownia tomentosa was investigated. The samples characterized by FTIR, SEM, EDS and XRD techniques, indicated that the surface functional groups like carboxyl, lactones or phenols and ethers have disappeared at high activation temperature (800 ℃) and as a result porous structure was developed that has a positive effect on the adsorption capacity. Bangham and parabolic diffusion models were applied to the kinetic adsorption data, which show that the adsorption of acid blue 1 was a diffusion controlled process. The reaction rate increased with the increase in temperatures of both the adsorption and activation. Thermodynamic parameters like △E^≠, △H^≠, △S^≠ and △G^≠ were calculated from the kinetic data. The negative values of △S^≠ reflected the decrease in the disorder of the system at the solid-solution interface during adsorption. Gibbs free energy (△G^≠), representing the driving force for the affinity of dye for the carbon surface, increased with the increase in sample activation and the adsorption temperatures.  相似文献

Kinetic, equilibrium, and thermodynamic studies were performed for the batch adsorption of methylene blue (MB) on the high lime fly ash as a low cost adsorbent material. The studied operating variables were adsorbent amount, contact time, dye concentration, and temperature. The kinetic data were analyzed using the pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order kinetic models and the adsorption kinetic was followed well by the pseudo-second order kinetic model. The equilibrium data were fitted with the Freundlich, Langmuir, and Dubinin Radushkevich (D–R) isotherms and the equilibrium data were found to be well represented by the Freundlich and D–R isotherms. Based on these two isotherms MB is taken by chemical ion exchange and active sites on the high lime fly ash have different affinities to MB molecules. Various thermodynamic parameters such as enthalpy of adsorption (ΔH°), free energy change (ΔG°), and entropy change (ΔS°) were investigated. The positive value of ΔH° and negative value of ΔG° indicate that the adsorption is endothermic and spontaneous. The positive value of ΔS° shows the increased randomness at the solid–liquid interface during the adsorption. A single-stage batch adsorber was also designed based on the Freundlich isotherm for the removal of MB by the high lime fly ash.  相似文献

This study investigates the adsorption of Congo red (CR) dye onto corn cob based activated carbon (CCAC) in the batch process. The activated carbon was characterized using FTIR, SEM, and EDX techniques, respectively. The effect of operational parameters such as the initial dye concentration (10–50?mg/L), contact time (5–160 minutes), and solution temperature (30–50°C) were studied. The amount of the CR dye adsorbed was found to increase as these operational parameters increased. Kinetic data for CR dye adsorption onto CCAC were best represented by the pseudo second-order kinetic model. Four different isotherms namely Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, and Dubinin-Radushkevich models were used to test the adsorption data. It fitted the Langmuir isotherm model most. Thermodynamic parameters such as ΔH0, ΔS0, and ΔG0 were evaluated. The adsorption process was found to be exothermic and spontaneous. The study shows that CCAC is an effective adsorbent for the adsorption of CR dye from aqueous solution.  相似文献

In present study adsorption capacity of waste materials of Daucus carota plant (carrot stem powder: CSP and carrot leaves powder: CLP) was explored for the removal of methylene blue (MB) malachite green (MG) dye from water. The morphology and functional groups present were investigated by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The operating variables studied were pH, adsorbent dose, ionic strength, initial dye concentration, contact time and temperature. Equilibrium data were analysed using Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models and monolayer adsorption capacity of adsorbents were calculated. Kinetic data were studied using pseudo-first and pseudo-second order kinetic models and the mechanism of adsorption was described by intraparticle diffusion model.Various thermodynamic parameters such as enthalpy of adsorption ΔH°, free energy change ΔG° and entropy ΔS° were estimated. Negative value of ΔH° and negative values of ΔG° showed that the adsorption process was exothermic and spontaneous. Negative value of entropy ΔS° showed the decreased randomness at the solid–liquid interface during the adsorption of MB and MG onto CSP and CLP.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This study reports on the adsorption of 2-chlorophenol from an aqueous solution using activated carbon prepared by H2SO4 activation of the pericarp of Ricinus communis (RCAC). The pericarp was carbonized and activated by treating with H2SO4 solution followed by heating in an oven at 105°C for 12 hrs. Batch adsorption experiments were carried out as a function of pH, contact time, initial concentration of the adsorbate, adsorbent dosage and temperature of the solution. Kinetic data were best fit to a pseudo-first-order rate equation for the adsorption of 2-chlorophenol on RCAC. Thermodynamic parameters ΔHo, ΔSo and ΔGo for the adsorption were also determined which shows that adsorption on the surface of RCAC was spontaneous in nature, and exothermic between temperatures of 20°C and 80°C. The equilibrium data better fit the Langmuir isotherm model for 2-chlorophenol adsorption on RCAC. IR spectrum for loaded and unloaded RCAC was obtained and found to be in good agreement.  相似文献

The objective of this study is to find optimum preparation conditions in converting teak wood waste into activated carbon (TWAC) and to evaluate its performance in adsorbing cationic dye of methylene blue (MB). TWAC was produced via physiochemical activation (potassium hydroxide, KOH chemical treatment, and carbon dioxide, CO2 gasification) and heated through microwave irradiation technique. With the aid of response surface methodology (RSM), optimized TWAC was successfully synthesized at radiation power, radiation time, and impregnation ratio (IR) of 366 W, 5.30 min, and 1.15 g/g, respectively. These preparation conditions produced TWAC with MB adsorption uptakes of 66.69 mg/g and a yield of 38.23%. Characteristics of TWAC in terms of BET surface area, mesopores surface area, total pore volume, and average pore diameter were determined to be 1345.25 m2/g, 878.63 m2/g, 0.6140 cm3/g, and 2.85 nm, respectively. Isotherm studies divulged that the MB-TWAC adsorption system followed the Langmuir model with a maximum monolayer adsorption capacity of 567.52 mg/g. In terms of kinetic studies, this adsorption system fit pseudo-second order model the best whereas Boyd plot confirmed that the adsorption process was controlled by the film diffusion mechanism. Thermodynamic parameters of enthalpy change, ΔH°, entropy change, ΔS°, Gibbs free energy, ΔG° and Arrhenius activation energy, Ea were calculated to be ?4.06 kJ/mol, 0.06 kJ/mol.K, –22.69 kJ/mol and 16.03 kJ/mol, respectively. The activation and microwave heating methods employed succeeded to produce TWAC with excellent adsorption performance in removing MB dye. TWAC was also successfully regenerated for 5 cycles via microwave heating technique.  相似文献

Methylene blue (MB) removal using eco-friendly, cost-effective, and freely available Urtica was investigated. The morphology of the adsorbent surface and the nature of the possible Urtica and MB interactions were examined using SEM analysis and the FTIR technique, respectively. Various factors affecting MB adsorption such as adsorption time, initial MB concentration, temperature, and solution pH were investigated. The adsorption process was analysed using different kinetic models and isotherms. The results showed that the MB adsorption kinetic follows a pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the isotherm data fit the Langmuir isotherm well. Thermodynamic parameters, such as ΔG°, ΔH°, and ΔS°, were also evaluated, and the results indicated that the adsorption process is endothermic and spontaneous in nature. The MB adsorption capacity of Urtica was found to be as high as 101.01 mg g?1, higher than those of many other adsorbents studied in the literature. This superior adsorption capacity, along with the ready availability of Urtica, render this adsorbent potentially suitable for practical applications.  相似文献

In this study, antimicrobial pigment cinnabarinic acid (CA) was produced from Pycnoporus cinnabarinus in laboratory‐scale batch cultures. Magnetic poly(ethylene glycol dimethacrylate‐N‐methacryloyl‐l‐tryptophan methyl ester) [m‐poly(EGDMA‐MATrp)] beads (average diameter = 53–103 µm) were synthesized by copolymerizing of N‐methacryloyl‐l‐tryptophan methyl ester (MATrp) with ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) in the presence of magnetite (Fe3O4) and used for the adsorption of CA. The m‐poly(EGDMA‐MATrp) beads were characterized by N2 adsorption/desorption isotherms (Brunauer Emmet Teller), X‐ray photoelecron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, infrared spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis, electron spin resonance and swelling studies. The efficiency of m‐poly(EGDMA‐MATrp) beads for separation of CA from culture fluid was evaluated. The effects of pH, initial concentration, contact time and temperature on adsorption were analyzed. The maximum CA adsorption capacity of the m‐poly(EGDMA‐MATrp) beads was 272.9 mg g−1 at pH 7.0, 25 °C. All the isotherm data can be fitted with the Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin–Radushkevich isotherm models. The adsorption process obeyed pseudo‐second‐order kinetic model. Thermodynamic parameters ΔH = 5.056 kJ mol−1, ΔS = 52.44 J K−1 mol−1 and ΔG = −9.424 kJ mol−1 to ‐11.27 kJ mol−1 with the rise in temperature from 4 to 40 °C indicated that the adsorption process was endothermic and spontaneous. The effect of cetylpyridinium bromide (CPB) and sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) on the direction and the rate of the reaction ofo-dimethylaminomethylphenol (MP) withp-nitrophenyl diphenyl phosphate (1) has been studied by31P NMR and spectrophotometry. It was shown that the reaction of MP with1 proceeds in two steps both with and without the surfactant. The product of transesterification is formed in the first step. The second step is hydrolysis catalyzed by the aminomethyl group yielding equal amounts of diphenyl phosphate ando-dimethylaminomethyl phenyl phosphate. The reaction of MP with1 is catalyzed by CPB and inhibited by SDS. The ratio between the rates of the first and the second stages changes in the presence of surfactant. The parameters of the reaction of MP with1 inhibited by micellar SDS were calculated.Translated fromIzvestiya Akademii Nauk. Seriya Khimicheskaya, No. 2, pp. 242–245, February, 1994.  相似文献

The adsorption of methylene blue (MB) dye from aqueous solution onto a cashew nut shell (CNS) was investigated as a function of parameters such as solution pH, CNS dose, contact time, initial MB dye concentration and temperature. The CNS was shown to be effective for the quantitative removal of MB dye, and the equilibrium was reached in 60 min. The experimental data were analysed by two-parameter isotherms (Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and Dubinin-Radushkevich models) using nonlinear regression analysis. The characteristic parameters for each isotherm and the related correlation coefficients were determined. Thermodynamic parameters such as ΔG°, ΔH° and ΔS° were also evaluated, the sorption process was found to be spontaneous and exothermic. Pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order and Elovich kinetic models were used to analyze the adsorption process. The results of the kinetic study suggest that the adsorption of MB dye matches the pseudo-second-order equation, suggesting that the adsorption process is presumably chemisorption. The adsorption process was found to be controlled by both surface and pore diffusion. Analysis of adsorption data using a Boyd kinetic plot confirmed that the external mass transfer is a rate determining step in the sorption process. A single-stage batch adsorber was designed for different CNS doses to effluent volume ratios using the Freundlich equation. The results indicated that the CNS could be used effectively to adsorb MB dye from aqueous solutions.  相似文献

Developing a low-cost and well-recyclable adsorbent with high adsorption capacity is greatly desirable in dye wastewater treatment. Here, we demonstrate a kind of novel tough and reusable hydrogel beads with quite high capacity of dye adsorption via incorporating mussel-bioinspired poly(L-DOPA) (PDOPA) into alginate/poly(acrylamide) double network (DN) hydrogels. The synthesized PDOPA nanoaggregates were introduced into the DN hydrogels by simple one-pot mixing with the monomers prior to polymerization. The fabricated hydrogel beads exhibited high mechanical strength and good elastic recovery due to the interpenetrating Ca2+-alginate and poly(acrylamide) networks. It was shown that the beads exhibited relatively high dye adsorption capacity compared to other adsorbents reported in literature, and the introduction of PDOPA with an appropriate amount raised the adsorption capacity. It is believed that the addition of PDOPA and the matrix of double network architecture contributed synergistically to the high adsorption capacity of hydrogel beads. Moreover, the desorption of dyes could be easily realized via rinsing in acidic water and ethanol solution. The hydrogel beads remained the high adsorption capacity even after 5 times of adsorption and desorption cycles. This tough and stable hydrogel with high adsorption capacity may have potential in treatment of dye wastewater released by textile dyeing industry.  相似文献

Effect of anionic surfactant on the optical absorption spectra and redox reaction of basic fuchsin, a cationic dye, has been studied. Increase in the absorbance of the dye band at 546 nm with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) is assigned to the incorporation of the dye in the surfactant micelles with critical micellar concentration (CMC) of 7.3 × 10?3 mol dm?3. At low surfactant concentration (<5 × 10?3 mol dm?3) decrease in the absorbance of the dye band at 546 nm is attributed to the formation of a dye–surfactant complex (1:1). The environment, in terms of dielectric constant, experienced by basic fuchsin inside the surfactant micelles has been estimated. The association constant (KA) for the formation of dye–SDS complex and the binding constant (KB) for the micellization of dye are determined. Stopped‐flow studies, in the premicellar region, indicated simultaneous depletion of dye absorption and formation of new band at 490 nm with a distinct isosbestic point at 520 nm and the rate constant for this region increased with increasing SDS concentration. The reaction of hydrated electron with the dye and the decay of the semireduced dye are observed to be slowed down in the presence of SDS. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Sound velocity and density measurements of aqueous solutions of the anionic surfactant SDS (sodium dodecyl sulfate) and the cationic surfactant CTAB (cetyltrimethylammonium bromide) with the drug furosemide (0.002 and 0.02 mol⋅dm−3) have been carried out in the temperature range 20–40 °C. From these measurements, the compressibility coefficient (β), apparent molar volume (φ v ) and apparent molar compressibility (φ κ ) have been computed. From electrical conductivity measurements, the critical micelle concentrations (CMCs) of SDS and CTAB has been determined in the above aqueous furosemide solutions. From the CMC values as a function of temperature, various thermodynamic parameters have been evaluated: the standard enthalpy change (DHmo\Delta H_{\mathrm{m}}^{\mathrm{o}}), standard entropy change (DSmo\Delta S_{\mathrm{m}}^{\mathrm{o}}), and standard Gibbs energy change (DGmo\Delta G_{\mathrm{m}}^{\mathrm{o}}) for micellization. This work also included viscosity studies of aqueous solutions of SDS and CTAB with the drug in order to determine the relative viscosity (η r). UV-Vis studies have also been carried for the ternary drug/surfactant/water system having SDS in the concentration range 0.002–0.014 mol⋅dm−3. All of these parameters are discussed in terms of drug–drug, drug–solvent and drug–surfactant interactions resulting from of various electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions.  相似文献

Synchronous fluorescence spectroscopy (SFS) was applied for the investigation of interactions of the antibiotic, tetracycline (TC), with DNA in the presence of aluminium ions (Al3+). The study was facilitated by the use of the Methylene Blue (MB) dye probe, and the interpretation of the spectral data with the aid of the chemometrics method, parallel factor analysis (PARAFAC). Three-way synchronous fluorescence analysis extracted the important optimum constant wavelength differences, Δλ, and showed that for the TC-Al3+-DNA, TC-Al3+ and MB dye systems, the associated Δλ values were different (Δλ = 80, 75 and 30 nm, respectively). Subsequent PARAFAC analysis demonstrated the extraction of the equilibrium concentration profiles for the TC-Al3+, TC-Al3+-DNA and MB probe systems. This information is unobtainable by conventional means of data interpretation. The results indicated that the MB dye interacted with the TC-Al3+-DNA surface complex, presumably via a reaction intermediate, TC-Al3+-DNA-MB, leading to the displacement of the TC-Al3+ by the incoming MB dye probe.  相似文献

In this work, sequestration of Ni(II) from aqueous solution to Mg2Al layered double hydroxide (Mg2Al LDH) by adsorption process as a function of various water quality parameters and temperature was investigated. The results showed that the kinetic adsorption could be described by a pseudo-second order model very well. The adsorption of Ni(II) on Mg2Al LDH was strongly dependent on pH and ionic strength. The presence of humic acid (HA)/fulvic acid (FA) enhanced the adsorption of Ni(II) on Mg2Al LDH at low pH, whereas reduced Ni(II) adsorption at high pH. The Langmuir model fitted the adsorption isotherms of Ni(II) better than the Freundlich model at three different temperatures of 298, 318 and 338 K. The thermodynamic parameters (ΔHo, ΔSo and ΔGo) calculated from the temperature dependent adsorption isotherms indicated that the adsorption process of Ni(II) on Mg2Al LDH was endothermic and spontaneous. The results show that Mg2Al LDH is a promising material for the preconcentration and separation of pollutants from large volumes of aqueous solutions.  相似文献

Mixing behavior of anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) with cationic hydrotropes aniline hydrochloride (AH), o-toluidine hydrochloride (o-TH), and p-toluidine hydrochloride (p-TH) have been studied using conductivity at different temperatures. Critical micelle concentration for different mixing mole fractions, their ideal values, and different interaction parameters have been estimated. All the parameters show nonideal behavior with synergistic interactions. Thermodynamic parameters are also calculated for these systems.  相似文献
