In this paper we prove that, under an explicit integral pinching assumption between the L2-norm of the Ricci curvature and the L2-norm of the scalar curvature, a closed 3-manifold with positive scalar curvature admits a conformal metric of positive Ricci curvature. In particular, using a result of Hamilton, this implies that the manifold is diffeomorphic to a quotient of S3. The proof of the main result of the paper is based on ideas developed in an article by M. Gursky and J. Viaclovsky.  相似文献

We study curvatures of homogeneous Randers spaces. After deducing the coordinate-free formulas of the flag curvature and Ricci scalar of homogeneous Randers spaces, we give several applications. We first present a direct proof of the fact that a homogeneous Randers space is Ricci quadratic if and only if it is a Berwald space. We then prove that any left invariant Randers metric on a non-commutative nilpotent Lie group must have three flags whose flag curvature is positive, negative and zero, respectively. This generalizes a result of J.A. Wolf on Riemannian metrics. We prove a conjecture of J. Milnor on the characterization of central elements of a real Lie algebra, in a more generalized sense. Finally, we study homogeneous Finsler spaces of positive flag curvature and particularly prove that the only compact connected simply connected Lie group admitting a left invariant Finsler metric with positive flag curvature is SU(2)SU(2).  相似文献

In the homogeneous case, the only curvature behavior which is still far from being understood is Ricci negative. In this paper, we study which nilpotent Lie algebras admit a Ricci negative solvable extension. Different unexpected behaviors were found. On the other hand, given a nilpotent Lie algebra, we consider the space of all the derivations such that the corresponding solvable extension has a metric with negative Ricci curvature. Using the nice convexity properties of the moment map for the variety of nilpotent Lie algebras, we obtain a useful characterization of such derivations and some applications.  相似文献

Sharp estimates for the Ricci curvature of a submanifold M n of an arbitrary Riemannian manifold N n+p are established. It is shown that the equality in the lower estimate of the Ricci curvature of M n in a space form N n+p (c) is achieved only when M n is quasiumbilical with a flat normal bundle. In the case when the codimension p satisfies 1 ≤ pn − 3, the only submanifolds in N n+p (c) on which the Ricci curvature is minimal are the conformally flat ones with a flat normal bundle.   相似文献

We study Ricci flat 4-metrics of any signature under the assumption that they allow a Lie algebra of Killing fields with 2-dimensional orbits along which the metric degenerates and whose orthogonal distribution is not integrable. It turns out that locally there is a unique (up to a sign) metric which satisfies the conditions. This metric is of signature (++−−) and, moreover, homogeneous possessing a 6-dimensional symmetry algebra.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to classify 4-dimensional Einstein-like manifolds whose Ricci tensor has constant eigenvalues (this being a special kind of curvature homogeneity condition). We give a full classification when the Ricci tensor is of Codazzi type; when the Ricci tensor is cyclic parallel, we classify all such manifolds when not all Ricci curvatures are distinct. In this second case we find a one-parameter family of Riemannian metrics on a Lie groupG as the only possible ones which are irreducible and non-symmetric.  相似文献

Following the approach of Bryant [R. Bryant, Some remarks on G2-structures, in: S. Akbulut, T. Önder, R.J. Stern (Eds.), Proceeding of Gökova Geometry-Topology Conference 2005, International Press, 2006], we study the intrinsic torsion of an SU(2)-structure on a 5-dimensional manifold deriving an explicit expression for the Ricci and the scalar curvature in terms of torsion forms and its derivative. As a consequence of this formula we prove that the α-Einstein condition forces some special SU(2)-structures to be Sasaki-Einstein.  相似文献

LetM be a complete Riemannian manifold with Ricci curvature having a positive lower bound. In this paper, we prove some rigidity theorems forM by the existence of a nice minimal hypersurface and a sphere theorem aboutM. We also generalize a Myers theorem stating that there is no closed immersed minimal submanifolds in an open hemisphere to the case that the ambient space is a complete Riemannian manifold withk-th Ricci curvature having a positive lower bound. Given a real number ε>0, small enough, an associated Jost map Jε between two Riemannian manifolds is defined. Then we prove that connected Riemannian manifolds for which the center of mass of each small geodesic ball is the center of the ball (i.e. for which the identity is a Jε map) are ball-homogeneous. In the analytic case we characterize such manifolds in terms of the Euclidean Laplacian and we show that they have constant scalar curvature. Under some restriction on the Ricci curvature we prove that Riemannian analytic manifolds for which the center of mass of each small geodesic ball is the center of the ball are locally and weakly harmonic.  相似文献

In this paper we present several curvature estimates for solutions of the Ricci flow and the modified Ricci flow (including the volume normalized Ricci flow and the normalized Kähler-Ricci flow), which depend on the smallness of certain local \(L^{\frac{n}{2}}\) integrals of the norm of the Riemann curvature tensor |Rm|, where n denotes the dimension of themanifold. These local integrals are scaling invariant and very natural.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to construct a set of Riemannian metrics on a manifold X with the property that will develop a pinching singularity in finite time when evolved by Ricci flow. More specifically, let , where N n is an arbitrary closed manifold of dimension n≥ 2 which admits an Einstein metric of positive curvature. We construct a (non-empty) set of warped product metrics on the non-compact manifold X such that if , then a smooth solution , t∈[0,T) to the Ricci flow equation exists for some maximal constant T, 0<T<∞, with initial value , and
where K is some compact set . Received: 8 March 1999  相似文献

Let M be a complete non-compact connected Riemannian n-dimensional manifold. We first prove that, for any fixed point pM, the radial Ricci curvature of M at p is bounded from below by the radial curvature function of some non-compact n-dimensional model. Moreover, we then prove, without the pointed Gromov-Hausdorff convergence theory, that, if model volume growth is sufficiently close to 1, then M is diffeomorphic to Euclidean n-dimensional space. Hence, our main theorem has various advantages of the Cheeger-Colding diffeomorphism theorem via the Euclidean volume growth. Our main theorem also contains a result of do Carmo and Changyu as a special case.  相似文献

If E is the total space of a vector bundle over a compact Ricci non-negative manifold, it is known that E×Rp admits a complete metric of positive Ricci curvature for all sufficiently large p. In this paper we establish a small, explicit lower bound for the dimension p.  相似文献

Let M be a Riemannian m-dimensional manifold with m ≥ 3, endowed with non zero parallel p-form. We prove that there is no minimal isometric immersions of M in a Riemannian manifold N with constant strictly negative sectional curvature. Next we show that, under the conform flatness of the manifold N and some assumptions on the Ricci curvature of N, there is no α-pluriharmonic isometric immersion.  相似文献

In this paper, we can prove that any non‐degenerate strongly harmonic map ? from a compact Berwald manifold with nonnegative general Ricci curvature to a Landsberg manifold with non‐positive flag curvature must be totally geodesic, which generalizes the result of Eells and Sampson ([2]).  相似文献

We prove a new lower bound for the first eigenvalue of the Dirac operator on a compact Riemannian spin manifold by refined Weitzenb?ck techniques. It applies to manifolds with harmonic curvature tensor and depends on the Ricci tensor. Examples show how it behaves compared to other known bounds. We study a G-manifold M which admits a G-invariant Riemannian metric g of non-positive curvature. We describe all such Riemannian G-manifolds (M,g) of non-positive curvature with a semisimple Lie group G which acts on M regularly and classify cohomogeneity one G-manifolds M of a semisimple Lie group G which admit an invariant metric of non-positive curvature. Some results on non-existence of invariant metric of negative curvature on cohomogeneity one G-manifolds of a semisimple Lie group G are given.  相似文献

We study a notion weakening the Einstein condition on a left invariant Riemannian metric g on a nilpotent Lie groupN. We consider those metrics satisfying Ric for some and some derivationD of the Lie algebra ofN, where Ric denotes the Ricci operator of . This condition is equivalent to the metric g to be a Ricci soliton. We prove that a Ricci soliton left invariant metric on N is unique up to isometry and scaling. The following characterization is also given: (N,g) is a Ricci soliton if and only if (N,g) admits a metric standard solvable extension whose corresponding standard solvmanifold is Einstein. This gives several families of new examples of Ricci solitons. By a variational approach, we furthermore show that the Ricci soliton homogeneous nilmanifolds (N,g) are precisely the critical points of a natural functional defined on a vector space which contains all the homogeneous nilmanifolds of a given dimension as a real algebraic set.
