To investigate whether and how manual acupuncture (MA) modulates brain activities, we design an experiment that acupuncture at acupoint ST36 of right leg to obtain electroencephalograph (EEG) signals in healthy subjects. We adopt autoregressive (AR) Burg method to estimate the power spectrum of EEG signals and analyze the relative powers in delta (0 Hz-4 Hz), theta (4 Hz-8 Hz), alpha (8 Hz-13 Hz), and beta (13 Hz-30 Hz) bands. Our results show that MA at ST36 can significantly increase the EEG slow wave relative power (delta band) and reduce the fast wave relative powers (alpha and beta bands), while there are no statistical differences in theta band relative power between different acupuncture states. In order to quantify the ratio of slow to fast wave EEG activity, we compute the power ratio index. It is found that the MA can significantly increase the power ratio index, especially in frontal and central lobes. All the results highlight the modulation of brain activities with MA and may provide potential helps in clinical treatment of acupuncture. The proposed quantitative method of acupuncture signals may be further used to make MA more standardized.  相似文献

Neurofeedback training (NFT) has shown promising results in recent years as a tool to address the effects of age-related cognitive decline in the elderly. Since previous studies have linked reduced complexity of electroencephalography (EEG) signal to the process of cognitive decline, we propose the use of non-linear methods to characterise changes in EEG complexity induced by NFT. In this study, we analyse the pre- and post-training EEG from 11 elderly subjects who performed an NFT based on motor imagery (MI–NFT). Spectral changes were studied using relative power (RP) from classical frequency bands (delta, theta, alpha, and beta), whilst multiscale entropy (MSE) was applied to assess EEG-induced complexity changes. Furthermore, we analysed the subject’s scores from Luria tests performed before and after MI–NFT. We found that MI–NFT induced a power shift towards rapid frequencies, as well as an increase of EEG complexity in all channels, except for C3. These improvements were most evident in frontal channels. Moreover, results from cognitive tests showed significant enhancement in intellectual and memory functions. Therefore, our findings suggest the usefulness of MI–NFT to improve cognitive functions in the elderly and encourage future studies to use MSE as a metric to characterise EEG changes induced by MI–NFT.  相似文献

Stroke is the commonest cause of disability. Novel treatments require an improved understanding of the underlying mechanisms of recovery. Fractal approaches have demonstrated that a single metric can describe the complexity of seemingly random fluctuations of physiological signals. We hypothesize that fractal algorithms applied to electroencephalographic (EEG) signals may track brain impairment after stroke. Sixteen stroke survivors were studied in the hyperacute (<48 h) and in the acute phase (∼1 week after stroke), and 35 stroke survivors during the early subacute phase (from 8 days to 32 days and after ∼2 months after stroke): We compared resting-state EEG fractal changes using fractal measures (i.e., Higuchi Index, Tortuosity) with 11 healthy controls. Both Higuchi index and Tortuosity values were significantly lower after a stroke throughout the acute and early subacute stage compared to healthy subjects, reflecting a brain activity which is significantly less complex. These indices may be promising metrics to track behavioral changes in the very early stage after stroke. Our findings might contribute to the neurorehabilitation quest in identifying reliable biomarkers for a better tailoring of rehabilitation pathways.  相似文献

Depression is a public health issue that severely affects one’s well being and can cause negative social and economic effects to society. To raise awareness of these problems, this research aims at determining whether the long-lasting effects of depression can be determined from electroencephalographic (EEG) signals. The article contains an accuracy comparison for SVM, LDA, NB, kNN, and D3 binary classifiers, which were trained using linear (relative band power, alpha power variability, spectral asymmetry index) and nonlinear (Higuchi fractal dimension, Lempel–Ziv complexity, detrended fluctuation analysis) EEG features. The age- and gender-matched dataset consisted of 10 healthy subjects and 10 subjects diagnosed with depression at some point in their lifetime. Most of the proposed feature selection and classifier combinations achieved accuracy in the range of 80% to 95%, and all the models were evaluated using a 10-fold cross-validation. The results showed that the motioned EEG features used in classifying ongoing depression also work for classifying the long-lasting effects of depression.  相似文献

Lyapunov exponents are a set of fundamental dynamical invariants characterizing a system's sensitive dependence on initial conditions. For more than a decade, it has been claimed that the exponents computed from electroencephalogram (EEG) or electrocorticogram (ECoG) signals can be used for prediction of epileptic seizures minutes or even tens of minutes in advance. The purpose of this paper is to examine the predictive power of Lyapunov exponents. Three approaches are employed. (1) We present qualitative arguments suggesting that the Lyapunov exponents generally are not useful for seizure prediction. (2) We construct a two-dimensional, nonstationary chaotic map with a parameter slowly varying in a range containing a crisis, and test whether this critical event can be predicted by monitoring the evolution of finite-time Lyapunov exponents. This can thus be regarded as a "control test" for the claimed predictive power of the exponents for seizure. We find that two major obstacles arise in this application: statistical fluctuations of the Lyapunov exponents due to finite time computation and noise from the time series. We show that increasing the amount of data in a moving window will not improve the exponents' detective power for characteristic system changes, and that the presence of small noise can ruin completely the predictive power of the exponents. (3) We report negative results obtained from ECoG signals recorded from patients with epilepsy. All these indicate firmly that, the use of Lyapunov exponents for seizure prediction is practically impossible as the brain dynamical system generating the ECoG signals is more complicated than low-dimensional chaotic systems, and is noisy.  相似文献

将外骨骼机器人技术与BCI系统结合起来,使人体具有了外骨骼机器人的一系列优良特性,同时使外骨骼机器人具备了人体的智能。首先,对外骨骼机器人技术与BCI技术的融合进行了可行性分析,说明了该方法的可行性。其次,通过实验采集了六种想象运动的脑电信号,选取了C3、C4通道的脑电信号,并对其进行了去噪处理。然后,对经过预处理的六种想象运动的脑电信号通过小波变换进行了分解,提取了包括小波分解系数和能量系数的脑电信号小波特征。最后,针对所提取的小波特征,采用了最小二乘支持向量机对这六种想象运动模式进行分类处理。  相似文献

皮层肌肉功能耦合是大脑皮层和肌肉组织间的相互作用, 脑肌电信号的多尺度耦合特征可以体现皮层-肌肉间多时空的功能联系. 本文引入变分模态分解并与传递熵结合, 构建变分模态分解-传递熵模型应用于脑肌间耦合研究. 首先基于变分模态分解将同步采集的脑电(EEG) 和肌电(EMG) 信号分别进行时频尺度化, 然后计算不同时频尺度间的传递熵值, 获取不同耦合方向(EEG→EMG 及EMG→EEG) 上不同尺度间的非线性耦合特征. 结果表明, 在静态握力输出条件下, 皮层与肌肉beta (15—35 Hz) 频段间的耦合强度最为显著; EEG→EMG 方向上脑电与肌电高gamma (50—72 Hz) 频段的耦合强度总体上高于EMG→EEG 方向.研究结果揭示皮层-肌肉功能耦合具有双向性, 且脑肌间不同耦合方向上、不同频段间的耦合强度有所差异.因此可利用变分模态分解-传递熵方法定量刻画大脑皮层与肌肉各时频段之间的非线性同步特征及功能联系.  相似文献

We apply flicker-noise spectroscopy (FNS), a time series analysis method operating on structure functions and power spectrum estimates, to study the clinical electroencephalogram (EEG) signals recorded in children/adolescents (11 to 14 years of age) with diagnosed schizophrenia-spectrum symptoms at the National Center for Psychiatric Health (NCPH) of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. The EEG signals for these subjects were compared with the signals for a control sample of chronically depressed children/adolescents. The purpose of the study is to look for diagnostic signs of subjects’ susceptibility to schizophrenia in the FNS parameters for specific electrodes and cross-correlations between the signals simultaneously measured at different points on the scalp. Our analysis of EEG signals from scalp-mounted electrodes at locations F3 and F4, which are symmetrically positioned in the left and right frontal areas of cerebral cortex, respectively, demonstrates an essential role of frequency-phase synchronization, a phenomenon representing specific correlations between the characteristic frequencies and phases of excitations in the brain. We introduce quantitative measures of frequency-phase synchronization and systematize the values of FNS parameters for the EEG data. The comparison of our results with the medical diagnoses for 84 subjects performed at NCPH makes it possible to group the EEG signals into 4 categories corresponding to different risk levels of subjects’ susceptibility to schizophrenia. We suggest that the introduced quantitative characteristics and classification of cross-correlations may be used for the diagnosis of schizophrenia at the early stages of its development.  相似文献

神经运动控制中脑肌电同步特征可以反映皮层与肌肉之间的功能联系. 为定量研究脑电和肌电信号在不同时间尺度上的同步耦合特征, 提出多尺度传递熵方法实现静态握力输出下的脑肌电耦合分析: 对同步采集的头皮脑电信号(EEG) 和表面肌电信号(EMG)进行多尺度化, 计算不同尺度因子下EEG与EMG间的传递熵值, 获取不同耦合方向(EEG→EMG及EMG→EEG)上的非线性脑肌电耦合特征; 进一步计算功能频段下的显著性面积指标, 定量分析不同尺度下皮层肌肉功能耦合强度的差异. 分析结果显示, 静态握力输出时beta频段(15–35 Hz)皮层肌肉功能耦合特征显著, 且beta2频段(25–35 Hz)在不同尺度上EEG→EMG方向的耦合强度大于EMG→EEG方向, 耦合强度最大值和方向间耦合强度差异显著值均出现于较高时间尺度. 研究结果揭示: 皮层肌肉功能耦合具有双向性, 且耦合强度在不同时间尺度和不同功能频段上有所差异, 可利用多尺度传递熵定量刻画大脑皮层与肌肉之间的非线性同步特征及功能联系.  相似文献

It is well known that there may be significant individual differences in physiological signal patterns for emotional responses. Emotion recognition based on electroencephalogram (EEG) signals is still a challenging task in the context of developing an individual-independent recognition method. In our paper, from the perspective of spatial topology and temporal information of brain emotional patterns in an EEG, we exploit complex networks to characterize EEG signals to effectively extract EEG information for emotion recognition. First, we exploit visibility graphs to construct complex networks from EEG signals. Then, two kinds of network entropy measures (nodal degree entropy and clustering coefficient entropy) are calculated. By applying the AUC method, the effective features are input into the SVM classifier to perform emotion recognition across subjects. The experiment results showed that, for the EEG signals of 62 channels, the features of 18 channels selected by AUC were significant (p < 0.005). For the classification of positive and negative emotions, the average recognition rate was 87.26%; for the classification of positive, negative, and neutral emotions, the average recognition rate was 68.44%. Our method improves mean accuracy by an average of 2.28% compared with other existing methods. Our results fully demonstrate that a more accurate recognition of emotional EEG signals can be achieved relative to the available relevant studies, indicating that our method can provide more generalizability in practical use.  相似文献

基于图论的脑功能网络分析是近年来的一个研究热点,而相同步分析已被证实为揭示多导联脑电信号之间功能连接的有效工具.针对当脑电采集系统中导联数目较少而不适用于采用图论分析的情况,提出使用基于导联间相同步分析的网络连接度指标研究脑功能网络的关联特性和整体特性.采用新的频带划分方法,将0.5—30 Hz带宽内的脑电信号划分到5个子带上,计算了不同数据长度下各子带分量的网络连接度指标,并对比分析了各子带分量的相对功率.结果表明:在对脑梗死患者的脑电图和正常人的脑电图进行分析时,需要合理的数据长度量化不同动力学系统之间的差异;在合理的数据长度下,在网络连接度指标的区分效果方面,19—24 Hz分量信号优于其他分量,而且仅在19—24 Hz频带上,脑梗死患者组的所有导联出现了与对照组的所有导联相同趋势的变化.研究表明19—24 Hz频带是脑梗死最佳的脑电图诊断频段,可将该频段下的网络连接度指标作为脑梗死辅助诊断的新指标.  相似文献

自闭症谱系障碍是一种涉及感觉、情感、记忆、语言、智力、动作等认知功能和执行功能障碍的精神疾病. 本文从神经工效学角度出发, 用虚拟开车环境作为复杂多任务激励源将大脑系统与人体动作控制等有机地结合起来, 通过对脑电信号的滑动平均样本熵分析来探索自闭症儿童在虚拟开车环境中的脑活动特征. 研究发现不论是休息状态还是开车状态, 自闭症患者的滑动平均样本熵总体上低于健康者, 尤其在前额叶、颞叶、顶叶和枕叶功能区, 表明自闭症儿童的行为适应性较低. 不过, 自闭症患者的开车状态与健康受试者的休息状态比较接近, 表明虚拟开车环境或许有助于自闭症患者的干预治疗. 此外, 自闭症患者在颞叶区呈现显著性右半球优势性. 本研究为进一步深入开展自闭症疾病的机理研究及其诊断、评估和干预等研究提供一种新的研究思路.  相似文献

This paper analyses the complexity of electroencephalogram (EEG) signals in different temporal scales for the analysis and classification of focal and non-focal EEG signals. Futures from an original multiscale permutation Lempel–Ziv complexity measure (MPLZC) were obtained. MPLZC measure combines a multiscale structure, ordinal analysis, and permutation Lempel–Ziv complexity for quantifying the dynamic changes of an electroencephalogram (EEG). We also show the dependency of MPLZC on several straight-forward signal processing concepts, which appear in biomedical EEG activity via a set of synthetic signals. The main material of the study consists of EEG signals, which were obtained from the Bern-Barcelona EEG database. The signals were divided into two groups: focal EEG signals (n = 100) and non-focal EEG signals (n = 100); statistical analysis was performed by means of non-parametric Mann–Whitney test. The mean value of MPLZC results in the non-focal group are significantly higher than those in the focal group for scales above 1 (p < 0.05). The result indicates that the non-focal EEG signals are more complex. MPLZC feature sets are used for the least squares support vector machine (LS-SVM) classifier to classify into the focal and non-focal EEG signals. Our experimental results confirmed the usefulness of the MPLZC method for distinguishing focal and non-focal EEG signals with a classification accuracy of 86%.  相似文献

认知心理学发现,视觉、听觉接收到信息有冲突时,大脑皮层电位会发生扰动,由此可探索认知冲突控制的“刺激-反应”机制。视觉认知冲突实验较多,成果丰硕,而相应的听觉实验很少,并且得到不一样的结论。本研究利用冲突和非冲突的语音信号刺激,分析研究脑电信号,提出基于三阶段听觉认知控制的时域特征模型。研究人脑听觉通道在出现语音认知冲突时的认知控制的规律下的单次试验脑电数据特征提取方法。根据得到的认知规律,单次试验脑电样本被分成3个部分。被分割的每个阶段使用时域上的平均幅值和Lempel-Ziv复杂度(LZC)进行计算,从而联合3个阶段的特征作为听觉认知脑电样本的特征。结果表明:(1)先发现的认知冲突相关的混合脑电成分“N1-P2&N2&Late-SW”分别体现了听觉认知控制的3个阶段;(2)一个更完整的听觉认知控制过程应包括3个阶段的时域特征:感知阶段:110~140 ms,识别阶段:260~320 ms,解决阶段:500~700 ms;(3)提出针对单次听觉认知控制脑电样本的特征提取方法,联合使用平均幅度和LZC可以获得最好的识别率(99.33%)。实验结果证明了提出的方法能够有效地检测听觉认知控制脑电数据,进而提供人脑认知控制能力评价的声学方法。   相似文献

针对多类运动想象脑电信号个体差异性强和分类正确率比较低的问题,提出了一种时-空-频域相结合的脑电信号分析方法:首先利用小波包对EEG原始信号进行分解,根据EEG信号的频域分布提取出运动想象脑电节律,通过“一对多”共空间模式(CSP)算法对不同运动想象任务的脑电节律进行空间滤波提取特征;然后将特征向量输入到“一对多”模式下的支持向量机(SVM)中,并利用判断决策函数值的方法对SVM的输出结果进行融合;最后通过引入时间窗对脑电信号进行时域滤波,消除运动想象开始和结束时脑电的波动,进一步提高信号信噪比和算法的分类效果。实验结果显示:在时间窗为2s时,平均最大 系数达到了0.72,比脑机接口竞赛第一名提高了0.15,验证了该算法能够有效减小脑电信号个体差异性影响,提高多类识别正确率。  相似文献

在神经科学研究领域,对大脑的观察主要来源于对脑电信号的收集与分析。当前对脑电信号收集的方法是通过专业脑电设备将信号收集保存,再由专业软件处理。由于这类仪器非常昂贵,系统体积也比较大,软件更新快,现在只能用在科学研究上,根本无法用于有规模的实验教学,更不可能一人一机。为此,提出了一种基于LABVIEW的脑电信号虚拟采集系统设计方法,使脑电收集与分析可以广泛地应用于教学。该方法首先对脑电信号虚拟采集系统的硬件进行构造,然后以硬件构造为依据,利用AR模型功率谱估计对脑电信号进行特征提取,在特征提取过程中,对模型类型与模型系数算法以及模型最佳阶数进行分析,最后通过将二阶低通滤波器与二阶高通滤波器进行串联,形成4阶Bessel带通滤波器,实现脑电信号的滤波,并以脑电信号传输电路的设计完成脑电信号虚拟采集系统的设计。实验结果证明,所提方法可以快速地对脑电信号虚拟采集系统进行设计,并为该领域的研究发展提供支撑。#$NL关键词:LABVIEW;脑电信号;虚拟采集系统;  相似文献

Biodynamic responses of the hand-arm system have been mostly characterized in terms of driving-point force-motion relationships, which have also served as the primary basis for developing the mechanical-equivalent models. The knowledge of localized vibration responses of the hand-arm segments could help derive more effective biodynamic models. In this study, the transmission of zh-axis handle vibration to the wrist, elbow and the shoulder of the human hand and arm are characterized in the laboratory for the bent-arm and extended arm postures. The experiments involved six subjects grasping a handle subject to two different magnitudes of broad-band random vibration, and nine different combinations of hand grip and push forces. The vibration transmissibility data were acquired in the zh- and yh-axis at the wrist and shoulder, and along all the three axes around the elbow joint. The results show that the human hand-arm system in an extended arm posture amplifies the vibration transmitted to the upper-arm and the whole-body at frequencies below 25 Hz, but attenuates the vibration above 25 Hz more effectively than the bent-arm posture, except at the shoulder. The magnitudes of transmitted vibration under an extended arm posture along the yh-axis were observed to be nearly twice those for the bent-arm posture in the low frequency region. The results further showed that variations in the grip force mostly affect vibration transmissibility and characteristic frequencies of the forearm, while changes in the push force influenced the dynamic characteristics of the entire hand-arm system. The magnitudes of transmitted vibration in the vicinity of the characteristic frequencies were influenced by the handle vibration magnitude.  相似文献

Nowadays, electroencephalography signals can be acquired from a patient lying in a magnetic resonance imaging system. It is even possible to acquire EEG signals during an MR imaging sequence. However, such EEG signals are severely distorted by artifacts originating from various effects (e.g., MR gradients, ECG). In this paper, a simple method is presented to reduce such artifacts. Thereby, special attention is focused on artifacts related to the patient's electrocardiogram. The method is shown to be effective, adaptive, and automatic.  相似文献

为消除传统细分方法中由于两路条纹信号不正交引入的细分误差,提出了一种可对任意相位差条纹信号直接细分的新方法。根据两路条纹信号的极性和幅值大小,把一个信号周期分成8个区段。高速采集两路条纹信号,通过判断信号采样点所处的区段是否跳变对信号幅值交点进行动态跟踪。对不足一个周期的条纹移动,当测量出起点与终点的幅值,计算出其所在的区段及位置后,结合两路信号的交点,可实现对任意相位差条纹信号的细分。实验结果表明,该方法突破了传统细分方法必须信号正交的限制,可对任意相位差信号进行准确地细分,降低了条纹测量中器件安装与调试的难度,具有更强的环境适应性和抗干扰能力。  相似文献
