One of the future goals of the LHC is to precisely measure the properties of the Higgs boson. The associated production of a Higgs boson and top quark pair is a promising process to investigate the related Yukawa interaction and the properties of the Higgs.Compared with the pure scalar sector in the Standard Model, the Higgs sector contains both scalars and pseudoscalars in many new physics models, which makes the ttH interaction more complex and provides a variety of phenomena. To investigate the ttH interaction and the properties of the Higgs,we study the top quark spin correlation observables at the LHC.  相似文献

For a top quark mass fixed to its measured value, we find natural regions of minimal supergravity parameter space where all squarks, sleptons, and heavy Higgs scalars have masses far above 1 TeV and are possibly beyond the reach of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. This result is simply understood in terms of "focus point" renormalization group behavior and holds in any supergravity theory with a universal scalar mass that is large relative to other supersymmetry breaking parameters. We highlight the importance of the choice of fundamental parameters for this conclusion and for naturalness discussions in general.  相似文献

We have searched for direct pair production of scalar top and scalar bottom quarks in 88 pb-1 of pp collisions at sqrt[s]=1.8 TeV with the CDF detector. We looked for events with a pair of heavy flavor jets and missing energy, consistent with scalar top (bottom) quark decays to a charm (bottom) quark and a neutralino. The numbers of events that pass our selections show no significant deviation from standard model expectations. We compare our results to the next-to-leading order scalar quark production cross sections to exclude regions in scalar quark-neutralino mass parameter space.  相似文献

We have searched for direct production of scalar top quarks at the Collider Detector at Fermilab in 88 pb(-1) of p&pmacr; collisions at sqrt[s] = 1.8 TeV. We assume the scalar top quark decays into either a bottom quark and a chargino or a bottom quark, a lepton, and a scalar neutrino. The event signature for both decay scenarios is a lepton, missing transverse energy, and at least two b-quark jets. For a chargino mass of 90 GeV/c(2) and scalar neutrino masses of at least 40 GeV/c(2), we find no evidence for scalar top production and present upper limits on the production cross section in both decay scenarios.  相似文献

We investigate the potential of γ γ collisions to probe scalar unparticle couplings via top–antitop quark pair production. We find 95% confidence level limits on the unparticle couplings with an integrated luminosity of 500 fb−1 and an energy of  TeV. We investigate the effect of the top quark spin polarization on the unparticle couplings. It is shown that spin polarization of the top quark leads to a significant improvement in the sensitivity limits.  相似文献

We present a two-Higgs-doublet model, with a Z3 symmetry, in which CP violation originates solely in a soft (dimension-2) coupling in the scalar potential, and reveals itself solely in the CKM (quark mixing) matrix. In particular, in the mass basis the Yukawa interactions of the neutral scalars are all real. The model has only eleven parameters to fit the six quark masses and the four independent CKM-matrix observables. We find regions of parameter space in which the flavour-changing neutral couplings are so suppressed that they allow the scalars to be no heavier than a few hundred GeV.  相似文献

The gauge group, quark and lepton generations, Higgs scalar structure, couplings of quarks and leptons to Higgs scalars and to colour triplet scalars, and the gauge symmetry breaking are studied for a class of four-dimensional heterotic string models whose boundary conditions include third-integral twists.  相似文献

We show that the forward-backward asymmetry in top quark pair production can be enhanced by fields that transform nontrivially under the flavor group and satisfy minimal flavor violation, while at the same time the constraints from associated effects on the dσ(tt)/dM(tt) distribution, dijet resonance searches, same-sign top-pair production, and other phenomenology are satisfied. We work out two examples in detail: one where a scalar color antisextet field that is also an antisextet of SU(3)(U) enhances the forward-backward asymmetry and one where the enhancement arises from a vector color octet field that is also an octet of SU(3)(U).  相似文献

The massless string states are constructed for a four-dimensional heterotic string model with the U(5) gauge group in the untwisted sector. The complete observable gauge group, quark and lepton generations, Higgs scalar structure, quark and lepton mass matrix, couplings to colour triplet scalars, and gauge symmetry breaking are studied for this model.  相似文献

In the minimal supersymmetric standard model with R-parity violation, the lepton number violating top quark interactions can contribute to the top pair production at a linear collider via tree-level u-channel squark exchange diagrams. We calculate such contributions and find that in the allowed range of these R-violating couplings, the top pair production rate as well as the top quark polarization and the forward-backward asymmetry can be significantly altered. By comparing the unpolarized beams with the polarized beams, we find that the polarized beams are more powerful in probing such new physics.  相似文献

We searched for scalar bottom quarks 156 pb(-1) of pp collisions at radicalS = 1.96 recorded by the Collider Detector at Fermilab II experiment at the Tevatron. Scalar bottom quarks can be produced from gluino decays in -parity conserving models of supersymmetry when the mass of the gluino exceeds that of the scalar bottom quark. Then, a scalar bottom quark can decay into a bottom quark and a neutralino. To search for this scenario, we investigated events with large missing transverse energy and at least three jets, two or more of which were identified as containing a secondary vertex from the hadronization of quarks. We found four candidate events, where 2.6 +/- 0.7 are expected from standard model processes, and placed 95% confidence level lower limits on gluino and scalar bottom quark masses of up to 280 and 240 GeV/c(2), respectively.  相似文献

New results are reported from large scale lattice simulations of a frequently discussed strongly interacting gauge theory with a fermion flavor doublet in the two-index symmetric (sextet) representation of the SU(3) color gauge group. We find that the chiral condensate and the mass spectrum of the sextet model are consistent with chiral symmetry breaking in the limit of vanishing fermion mass. In contrast, sextet fermion mass deformations of spectral properties are not consistent with leading conformal scaling behavior near the critical surface of a conformal theory. A recent paper could not resolve the conformal fixed point of the gauge coupling from the slowly walking scenario of a very small nearly vanishing β-function (DeGrand et al. [3]). It is argued that overall consistency with our new results is resolved if the sextet model is close to the conformal window, staying outside with a very small non-vanishing β-function. The model would exhibit then the simplest composite Higgs mechanism leaving open the possibility of a light scalar state with quantum numbers of the Higgs impostor. It would emerge as the pseudo-Goldstone dilaton state from spontaneous symmetry breaking of scale invariance. We will argue that even without association with the dilaton, the scalar Higgs-like state can be light very close to the conformal window. A new Higgs project of sextet lattice simulations is outlined to resolve these important questions.  相似文献

We formulate an effective action for averages of fields for the coupled system of scalars and (chiral) fermions. The renormalization group equations for the scale dependence of the average potential exhibit a quadratic renormalization in addition to the usual logarithmic renormalization. It is independent of the regularization scheme and the momentum cutoff. We investigate to what extent quadratic relations for the top quark mass, which were formerly based on the vanishing of the quadratic divergence, can be motivated in the light of these results.  相似文献

In the framework of the littlest Higgs model with T-parity(LHT),we study the top quark spin correlation and polarization at the International Linear Collider(ILC).We find that the top quark polarization asymmetry δP t and the left-right asymmetry δA LR can respectively reach-35% and-37.5% for s~(1/2)=500 GeV and s~(1/2)=1000 GeV via e+e-collision,which can reach the observable level at the ILC.By contrast, the spin correlation δC is smaller. The correlation behaviors of these observables at the e+e-collision and the γγ collision will be helpful to distinguish different models and test the LHT model at the ILC.  相似文献

A large forward-backward asymmetry is seen in both the top quark rapidity distribution A(FB)(t) and in the rapidity distribution of charged leptons A(FB)(?) from top quarks produced at the Tevatron. We study the kinematic and dynamic aspects of the relationship of the two observables arising from the spin correlation between the charged lepton and the top quark with different polarization states. We emphasize the value of both measurements, and we conclude that a new physics model which produces more right-handed than left-handed top quarks is favored by the present data.  相似文献

Recently, it was shown that the absence of circular polarization of visible light from quasars severely constrains the interpretation of axion-like particles (ALPs) as a solution for the generation of linear polarization. Furthermore, the new observation of linear polarization in radio wavelength from quasars, similar to the earlier observation performed in the optical bands, makes the ALPs scenario inconsistent with at least one of the two observations. In this study, we extend this scenario by including more scalars. We find that the effects from scalar and pseudoscalar neutralize each other, thereby suppressing the circular polarization, while preserving consistent linear polarization, as observed in both the visible and radio wave bands.  相似文献

The starting point is the attractive class of composite models where quarks and leptons appear as fermion-scalar bound states (). The aim is to resolve the “naturality” problem associated with fundamental scalars without losing the appealing properties of -type composite models. A systematic construction of such models is given, where the scalar constituents automatically qualify as light dynamical scalars, i.e. as composite (pseudo) Goldstonebosons. A comfortably large class of composite models then results, where all standard “naturality” requirements are satisfied: the quark and lepton masses are kept small through 't Hooft's chiral protection mechanism; the dynamical scalar “constituents” are light and the CP problem of QCD finds an automatic solution. Further characteristics are economy, absence of light exotics, possibility of three generations and elegance of anomaly matching. It is shown that existing attractive models with fundamental scalars can be made “natural” in the sense defined above.  相似文献
