We introduce the notion of a definable category–a category equivalent to a full subcategory of a locally finitely presentable category that is closed under products, directed colimits and pure subobjects. Definable subcategories are precisely the finite-injectivity classes. We prove a 2-duality between the 2-category of small exact categories and the 2-category of definable categories, and provide a new proof of its additive version. We further introduce a third vertex of the 2-category of regular toposes and show that the diagram of 2-(anti-)equivalences between three 2-categories commutes; the corresponding additive triangle is well-known.  相似文献

We study the type-theoretical analogue of Bernays-Gödel set-theory and its models in categories. We introduce the notion of small structure on a category, and if small structure satisfies certain axioms we can think of the underlying category as a category of classes. Our axioms imply the existence of a co-variant powerset monad on the underlying category of classes, which sends a class to the class of its small subclasses. Simple fixed points of this and related monads are shown to be models of intuitionistic Zermelo-Fraenkel set-theory (IZF).  相似文献

We generalise the correspondence between Lawvere theories and finitary monads on in two ways. First, we allow our theories to be enriched in a category V that is locally finitely presentable as a symmetric monoidal closed category: symmetry is convenient but not necessary. And second, we allow the arities of our theories to be finitely presentable objects of a locally finitely presentable V-category A. We call the resulting notion that of a Lawvere A-theory. We extend the correspondence for ordinary Lawvere theories to one between Lawvere A-theories and finitary V-monads on A. We illustrate this with examples leading up to that of the Lawvere -theory for cartesian closed categories, i.e., the -enriched theory on the category for which the models are all small cartesian closed categories. We also briefly investigate change-of-base.  相似文献

We show, using [A. Carboni, P.T. Johnstone, Connected limits, familial representability and Artin glueing, Math. Structures Comput. Sci. 5 (1995) 441-459] and Eckmann-Hilton argument, that the category of 3-computads is not cartesian closed. As a corollary we get that neither the category of all computads nor the category of n-computads, for n>2, do form locally cartesian closed categories, and hence elementary toposes.  相似文献

Beyond groups of automorphisms in the category Gp of groups and Lie-algebras of derivations in the category K-Lie of Lie algebras, there are structures of internal groupoids (called action groupoids) in both categories. They allow a synthesis of the notion of obstruction to extensions. This leads, in any pointed protomodular category C with split extension classifiers, to a general treatment of non-abelian extensions which can be understood as morphisms in a certain groupoid TorsC.  相似文献

Let A be a locally finitely presented Grothendieck category. It is shown that a class of localizations of A in the sense of Bousfield is again locally finitely presented. The criterion is applied to torsion-free classes in A, sheaves and separated presheaves on a generalized ringed space, and representations of partially ordered sets.  相似文献

In this paper, we obtain a non-abelian analogue of Lubkin's embedding theorem for abelian categories. Our theorem faithfully embeds any small regular Mal'tsev category C in an n-th power of a particular locally finitely presentable regular Mal'tsev category. The embedding preserves and reflects finite limits, isomorphisms and regular epimorphisms, as in the case of Barr's embedding theorem for regular categories. Furthermore, we show that we can take n to be the (cardinal) number of subobjects of the terminal object in C.  相似文献

For locally finitely presentable categories it is well known that categories of F-algebras, where F is a finitary endofunctor, are also locally finitely presentable. We prove that this generalizes to locally finitely multipresentable categories. But it fails, in general, for finitely accessible categories: we even present an example of a strongly finitary functor F (one that preserves finitely presentable objects) whose category of F-algebras is not finitely accessible. On the other hand, categories of F-algebras are proved to be ω1-accessible for all strongly finitary functors—and it is an open problem whether this holds for all finitary functors.  相似文献

Raikov’s conjecture states that semi-abelian categories are quasi-abelian. A first counterexample is contained in a paper of Bonet and Dierolf who considered the category of bornological locally convex spaces. We prove that every semi-abelian category I admits a left essential embedding into a quasi-abelian category Kl(I) such that I can be recovered from Kl(I) by localization. Conversely, it is shown that left essential full subcategories I of a quasi-abelian category are semi-abelian, and a criterion for I to be quasi-abelian is given. Applied to categories of locally convex spaces, the criterion shows that barreled or bornological spaces are natural counterexamples to Raikov’s conjecture. Using a dual argument, the criterion leads to a simplification of Bonet and Dierolf’s example.  相似文献

We endow the homotopy category of well generated (pretriangulated) dg categories with a tensor product satisfying a universal property. The resulting monoidal structure is symmetric and closed with respect to the cocontinuous RHom of dg categories (in the sense of Toën [32]). We give a construction of the tensor product in terms of localisations of dg derived categories, making use of the enhanced derived Gabriel-Popescu theorem [27]. Given a regular cardinal α, we define and construct a tensor product of homotopically α-cocomplete dg categories and prove that the well generated tensor product of α-continuous derived dg categories (in the sense of [27]) is the α-continuous dg derived category of the homotopically α-cocomplete tensor product. In particular, this shows that the tensor product of well generated dg categories preserves α-compactness.  相似文献

We show that every essentially small finitely semisimple k-linear additive spherical category for which k=End(1) is a field, is equivalent to its dual over the long canonical forgetful functor. This includes the special case of modular categories. In order to prove this result, we show that the universal coend of the spherical category, with respect to the long forgetful functor, is self-dual as a Weak Hopf Algebra.  相似文献

For a set F of small categories, F-conservative cocompletions of a category are cocompletions preserving all existing colimits of type F. We prove that every category has a free F-conservative cocompletion. However, unless F is trivial, this cocompletion fails in general to be locally small.  相似文献

Concordant-dissonant and monotone-light factorisation systems on categories, ways to construct them, and conditions for them to coincide, as well as their examples are studied in this article. These factorisation systems are constructed from a reflection induced from a ground adjunction and a specified prefactorisation system. Furthermore, we give additional conditions, under which the monotone-light and the concordant-dissonant factorisations coincide for sub-reflections of the induced reflection. The adjunctions given by right Kan extensions, from the category of presheaves on sets, turn out to be very well-behaved examples, provided they satisfy the cogenerating set condition, which allows to describe the four classes of morphisms in the reflective and concordant-dissonant (= monotone-light) factorisations. It is also noticed that the faithfulness of the composite of the left-adjoint with the Yoneda embedding can be seen as a generalisation of the cogenerating set condition. Using this generalisation it is possible to present a convenient simplified version of the sufficient conditions above for the case of an adjunction from the category of presheaves on sets into a cocomplete category, satisfying the faithfulness of the abovementioned composite. Then, the same is done for induced sub-reflections from categories of models of (limit) sketches; in particular this explains why the monotone-light factorisation for categories via preordered sets is just the restriction of the same factorisation for simplicial sets via ordered simplicial complexes.  相似文献

Constellations are asymmetric generalisations of categories. Although they are not required to possess a notion of range, many natural examples do. These include commonly occurring constellations related to concrete categories (since they model surjective morphisms), and also others arising from quite different sources, including from well-studied classes of semigroups. We show how constellations with a well-behaved range operation are nothing but ordered categories with restrictions. We characterise abstractly those categories that are canonical extensions of constellations with range, as so-called IS-categories. Such categories contain distinguished subcategories of insertions (which are monomorphisms) and surjections (in general different to the epimorphisms) such that each morphism admits a unique factorisation into a surjection followed by an insertion. Most familiar concrete categories are IS-categories, and we show how some of the well-known properties of these categories arise from the fact that they are IS-categories. For appropriate choices of morphisms in each, the category of IS-categories is shown to be equivalent to the category of constellations with range.  相似文献

The category of small covariant functors from simplicial sets to simplicial sets supports the projective model structure [B. Chorny, W.G. Dwyer, Homotopy theory of small diagrams over large categories, preprint, 2005]. In this paper we construct various localizations of the projective model structure and also give a variant for functors from simplicial sets to spectra. We apply these model categories in the study of calculus of functors, namely for a classification of polynomial and homogeneous functors. In the n-homogeneous model structure, the nth derivative is a Quillen functor to the category of spectra with Σn-action. After taking into account only finitary functors—which may be done in two different ways—the above Quillen map becomes a Quillen equivalence. This improves the classification of finitary homogeneous functors by T.G. Goodwillie [T.G. Goodwillie, Calculus. III. Taylor series, Geom. Topol. 7 (2003) 645-711 (electronic)].  相似文献

Abstract

An adaptation of a theorem by Herrlich [5] shows that every initially structured category A can be fully embedded in a topological category AC, which is, in fact, a MacNeille completion of A. It is then shown that A is Cartesian closed if and only if AC is.

Also developed is the notion of a Cartesian closed initially structured (CCIS) hull of a category. The theory of the CCIS hull is analogous to that of the Cartesian closed topological (CCT) hull. It is proved that a category has a CCT hull-if and only if it has a CCIS hull; and this allows the list of conditions equivalent to the existence of a CCT hull to be supplemented.

Examples are given, drawn mainly from the various categories of binary relations.  相似文献

We prove that the exactness of direct limits in an abelian category with products and an injective cogenerator J is equivalent to a condition on J which is well-known to characterize pure-injectivity in module categories, and we describe an application of this result to the tilting theory. We derive our result as a consequence of a more general characterization of when inverse limits in the Eilenberg–Moore category of a monad on the category of sets preserve regular epimorphisms.  相似文献

Abstract

In this paper, the relation between the notion of a discrete functor (see [4]) and the notion of a fine functor (see [1]) is examined. As a generalization of the notion of a F-fine object (see [1]), discrete functors T: AX are used to define K-fine objects, where K is a class of A-objects. It is shown that if T is in addition semi-topological, then (as for F-fine objects in a topological category, see [1]) the class of K-fine objects determines a bicoreflective subcategory of A. Moreover, it is shown that in co-complete, co-(well-powered) categories, the existence of bicoreflective subcategories is equivalent to the existence of functors that are both discrete and semi-topological.  相似文献

An abelian category with arbitrary coproducts and a small projective generator is equivalent to a module category (Mitchell (1964) [17]). A tilting object in an abelian category is a natural generalization of a small projective generator. Moreover, any abelian category with a tilting object admits arbitrary coproducts (Colpi et al. (2007) [8]). It naturally arises the question when an abelian category with a tilting object is equivalent to a module category. By Colpi et al. (2007) [8], the problem simplifies in understanding when, given an associative ring R and a faithful torsion pair (X,Y) in the category of right R-modules, the heartH(X,Y)of the t-structure associated with (X,Y) is equivalent to a category of modules. In this paper, we give a complete answer to this question, proving necessary and sufficient conditions on (X,Y) for H(X,Y) to be equivalent to a module category. We analyze in detail the case when R is right artinian.  相似文献

Models for parallel and concurrent processes lead quite naturally to the study of monoidal categories (Inform. Comput. 88 (2) (1990) 105). In particular a category Tree of trees, equipped with a non-symmetric tensor product, interpreted as a concatenation, seems to be very useful to represent (local) behavior of non-deterministic agents able to communicate (Enriched Categories for Local and Interaction Calculi, Lecture Notes in Computer Science, Vol. 283, Springer, Berlin, 1987, pp. 57-70). The category Tree is also provided with a coproduct (corresponding to choice between behaviors) and the tensor product is only partially distributive w.r.t. it, in order to preserve non-determinism. Such a category can be properly defined as the category of the (finite) symmetric categories on a free monoid, when this free monoid is considered as a 2-category. The monoidal structure is inherited from the concatenation in the monoid. In this paper we prove that for every alphabet A, Tree(A), the category of finite A-labeled trees is equivalent to the free category which is generated by A and enjoys the afore-mentioned properties. The related category Beh(A), corresponding to global behaviors is also proven to be equivalent to the free category which is generated by A and enjoys a smaller set of properties.  相似文献
