This paper presents a canonical duality theory for solving a general nonconvex quadratic minimization problem with nonconvex constraints. By using the canonical dual transformation developed by the first author, the nonconvex primal problem can be converted into a canonical dual problem with zero duality gap. A general analytical solution form is obtained. Both global and local extrema of the nonconvex problem can be identified by the triality theory associated with the canonical duality theory. Illustrative applications to quadratic minimization with multiple quadratic constraints, box/integer constraints, and general nonconvex polynomial constraints are discussed, along with insightful connections to classical Lagrangian duality. Criteria for the existence and uniqueness of optimal solutions are presented. Several numerical examples are provided.  相似文献

This paper presents a set of complete solutions and optimality conditions for a nonconvex quadratic-exponential optimization problem. By using the canonical duality theory developed by the first author, the nonconvex primal problem in n-dimensional space can be converted into an one-dimensional canonical dual problem with zero duality gap, which can be solved easily to obtain all dual solutions. Each dual solution leads to a primal solution. Both global and local extremality conditions of these primal solutions can be identified by the triality theory associated with the canonical duality theory. This paper presents a canonical dual approach for solving a nonconvex global optimization problem governed by a sum of 4th-order polynomial and a log-sum-exp function. Such a problem arises extensively in engineering and sciences. Based on the canonical duality–triality theory, this nonconvex problem is transformed to an equivalent dual problem, which can be solved easily under certain conditions. We proved that both global minimizer and the biggest local extrema of the primal problem can be obtained analytically from the canonical dual solutions. As two special cases, a quartic polynomial minimization and a minimax problem are discussed. Existence conditions are derived, which can be used to classify easy and relative hard instances. Applications are illustrated by several nonconvex and nonsmooth examples.  相似文献

This paper presents a set of complete solutions to a class of polynomial optimization problems. By using the so-called sequential canonical dual transformation developed in the author’s recent book [Gao, D.Y. (2000), Duality Principles in Nonconvex Systems: Theory, Method and Applications, Kluwer Academic Publishers, Dordrecht/Boston/London, xviii + 454 pp], the nonconvex polynomials in can be converted into an one-dimensional canonical dual optimization problem, which can be solved completely. Therefore, a set of complete solutions to the original problem is obtained. Both global minimizer and local extrema of certain special polynomials can be indentified by Gao-Strang’s gap function and triality theory. For general nonconvex polynomial minimization problems, a sufficient condition is proposed to identify global minimizer. Applications are illustrated by several examples.  相似文献

This paper presents a canonical duality theory for solving quadratic minimization problems subjected to either box or integer constraints. Results show that under Gao and Strang’s general global optimality condition, these well-known nonconvex and discrete problems can be converted into smooth concave maximization dual problems over closed convex feasible spaces without duality gap, and can be solved by well-developed optimization methods. Both existence and uniqueness of these canonical dual solutions are presented. Based on a second-order canonical dual perturbation, the discrete integer programming problem is equivalent to a continuous unconstrained Lipschitzian optimization problem, which can be solved by certain deterministic technique. Particularly, an analytical solution is obtained under certain condition. A fourth-order canonical dual perturbation algorithm is presented and applications are illustrated. Finally, implication of the canonical duality theory for the popular semi-definite programming method is revealed.  相似文献

This paper studies the canonical duality theory for solving a class of quadrinomial minimization problems subject to one general quadratic constraint. It is shown that the nonconvex primal problem in \mathbb Rn{\mathbb {R}^n} can be converted into a concave maximization dual problem over a convex set in \mathbb R2{\mathbb {R}^2}, such that the problem can be solved more efficiently. The existence and uniqueness theorems of global minimizers are provided using the triality theory. Examples are given to illustrate the results obtained.  相似文献

This paper presents a canonical duality theory for solving a general nonconvex constrained optimization problem within a unified framework to cover Lagrange multiplier method and KKT theory. It is proved that if both target function and constraints possess certain patterns necessary for modeling real systems, a perfect dual problem (without duality gap) can be obtained in a unified form with global optimality conditions provided.While the popular augmented Lagrangian method may produce more difficult nonconvex problems due to the nonlinearity of constraints. This paper mainly investigates the extrema of a nonconvex functional with double-well potential in 1D through the approach of nonlinear differential equations. Based on the canonical duality method, the corresponding Euler–Lagrange equation with Neumann boundary condition can be converted into a cubic dual algebraic equation, which will help find the local extrema for the primal problem.  相似文献

This paper presents a method to estimate the bounds of the radius of the feasible space for a class of constrained nonconvex quadratic programmings. Results show that one may compute a bound of the radius of the feasible space by a linear programming which is known to be a PP-problem [N. Karmarkar, A new polynomial-time algorithm for linear programming, Combinatorica 4 (1984) 373–395]. It is proposed that one applies this method for using the canonical dual transformation [D.Y. Gao, Canonical duality theory and solutions to constrained nonconvex quadratic programming, J. Global Optimization 29 (2004) 377–399] for solving a standard quadratic programming problem.  相似文献

In this paper, under the existence of a certificate of nonnegativity of the objective function over the given constraint set, we present saddle-point global optimality conditions and a generalized Lagrangian duality theorem for (not necessarily convex) polynomial optimization problems, where the Lagrange multipliers are polynomials. We show that the nonnegativity certificate together with the archimedean condition guarantees that the values of the Lasserre hierarchy of semidefinite programming (SDP) relaxations of the primal polynomial problem converge asymptotically to the common primal–dual value. We then show that the known regularity conditions that guarantee finite convergence of the Lasserre hierarchy also ensure that the nonnegativity certificate holds and the values of the SDP relaxations converge finitely to the common primal–dual value. Finally, we provide classes of nonconvex polynomial optimization problems for which the Slater condition guarantees the required nonnegativity certificate and the common primal–dual value with constant multipliers and the dual problems can be reformulated as semidefinite programs. These classes include some separable polynomial programs and quadratic optimization problems with quadratic constraints that admit certain hidden convexity. We also give several numerical examples that illustrate our results.  相似文献

We describe a general scheme for solving nonconvex optimization problems, where in each iteration the nonconvex feasible set is approximated by an inner convex approximation. The latter is defined using an upper bound on the nonconvex constraint functions. Under appropriate conditions, a monotone convergence to a KKT point is established. The scheme is applied to truss topology design (TTD) problems, where the nonconvex constraints are associated with bounds on displacements and stresses. It is shown that the approximate convex problem solved at each inner iteration can be cast as a conic quadratic programming problem, hence large scale TTD problems can be efficiently solved by the proposed method.  相似文献

This paper presents some applications of the canonical dual theory in optimal control problems. The analytic solutions of several nonlinear and nonconvex problems are investigated by global optimizations. It turns out that the backward differential flow defined by the KKT equation may reach the globally optimal solution. The analytic solution to an optimal control problem is obtained via the expression of the co-state. Some examples are illustrated.  相似文献

We deal with the linear programming problem in which input data can vary in some given real compact intervals. The aim is to compute the exact range of the optimal value function. We present a general approach to the situation the feasible set is described by an arbitrary linear interval system. Moreover, certain dependencies between the constraint matrix coefficients can be involved. As long as we are able to characterize the primal and dual solution set (the set of all possible primal and dual feasible solutions, respectively), the bounds of the objective function result from two nonlinear programming problems. We demonstrate our approach on various cases of the interval linear programming problem (with and without dependencies).  相似文献

Local sensitivity information is obtained for KKT points of parametric NLPs that may exhibit active set changes under parametric perturbations; under appropriate regularity conditions, computationally relevant generalized derivatives of primal and dual variable solutions of parametric NLPs are calculated. Ralph and Dempe obtained directional derivatives of solutions of parametric NLPs exhibiting active set changes from the unique solution of an auxiliary quadratic program. This article uses lexicographic directional derivatives, a newly developed tool in nonsmooth analysis, to generalize the classical NLP sensitivity analysis theory of Ralph and Dempe. By viewing said auxiliary quadratic program as a parametric NLP, the results of Ralph and Dempe are applied to furnish a sequence of coupled QPs, whose unique solutions yield generalized derivative information for the NLP. A practically implementable algorithm is provided. The theory developed here is motivated by widespread applications of nonlinear programming sensitivity analysis, such as in dynamic control and optimization problems.  相似文献

Nonconvex quadratic programming (QP) is an NP-hard problem that optimizes a general quadratic function over linear constraints. This paper introduces a new global optimization algorithm for this problem, which combines two ideas from the literature—finite branching based on the first-order KKT conditions and polyhedral-semidefinite relaxations of completely positive (or copositive) programs. Through a series of computational experiments comparing the new algorithm with existing codes on a diverse set of test instances, we demonstrate that the new algorithm is an attractive method for globally solving nonconvex QP.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with a primal–dual interior point method for solving nonlinear semidefinite programming problems. The method consists of the outer iteration (SDPIP) that finds a KKT point and the inner iteration (SDPLS) that calculates an approximate barrier KKT point. Algorithm SDPLS uses a commutative class of Newton-like directions for the generation of line search directions. By combining the primal barrier penalty function and the primal–dual barrier function, a new primal–dual merit function is proposed. We prove the global convergence property of our method. We propose a new class of incremental primal–dual techniques for solving nonlinear programming problems with special structure. Specifically, the objective functions of the problems are sums of independent nonconvex continuously differentiable terms minimized subject to a set of nonlinear constraints for each term. The technique performs successive primal–dual increments for each decomposition term of the objective function. The primal–dual increments are calculated by performing one Newton step towards the solution of the Karush–Kuhn–Tucker optimality conditions of each subproblem associated with each objective function term. We show that the resulting incremental algorithm is q-linearly convergent under mild assumptions for the original problem.  相似文献

This paper extends and completes the discussion by Xing et?al. (Canonical dual solutions to the quadratic programming over a quadratic constraint, submitted) about the quadratic programming over one quadratic constraint (QP1QC). In particular, we relax the assumption to cover more general cases when the two matrices from the objective and the constraint functions can be simultaneously diagonalizable via congruence. Under such an assumption, the nonconvex (QP1QC) problem can be solved through a dual approach with no duality gap. This is unusual for general nonconvex programming but we can explain by showing that (QP1QC) is indeed equivalent to a linearly constrained convex problem, which happens to be dual of the dual of itself. Another type of hidden convexity can be also found in the boundarification technique developed in Xing et?al. This paper provides a canonical dual approach for minimizing a general quadratic function over a set of linear constraints. We first perturb the feasible domain by a quadratic constraint, and then solve a “restricted” canonical dual program of the perturbed problem at each iteration to generate a sequence of feasible solutions of the original problem. The generated sequence is proven to be convergent to a Karush-Kuhn-Tucker point with a strictly decreasing objective value. Some numerical results are provided to illustrate the proposed approach.  相似文献
