In this paper, we first continue our study of group duality, and prove that the duality we established earlier is natural. Then we use this naturality to study the category of commutative, cocommutative HopfC *-algebras, and show that the category of compact Abelian semigroups and the category of commutative, cocommutative HopfC *-algebras with units are isomorphic. By using this result, we show that the category of commutative, cocommutative quantum groups is Abelian. This is a generalization of a result of Grothendieck about the catrgory of finite-dimensional commutative, cocommutative Hopf algebras with antipodes.  相似文献

A pro-C*-algebra is a (projective) limit of C*-algebras in the category of topological *-algebras. From the perspective of non-commutative geometry, pro-C*-algebras can be seen as non-commutative k-spaces. An element of a pro-C*-algebra is bounded if there is a uniform bound for the norm of its images under any continuous *-homomorphism into a C*-algebra. The *-subalgebra consisting of the bounded elements turns out to be a C*-algebra. In this paper, we investigate pro-C*-algebras from a categorical point of view. We study the functor (−) b that assigns to a pro-C*-algebra the C*-algebra of its bounded elements, which is the dual of the Stone-Čech-compactification. We show that (−) b is a coreflector, and it preserves exact sequences. A generalization of the Gelfand duality for commutative unital pro-C*-algebras is also presented.  相似文献

We show that the following five categories are equivalent: (1) the opposite category of commutative von Neumann algebras; (2) compact strictly localizable enhanced measurable spaces; (3) measurable locales; (4) hyperstonean locales; (5) hyperstonean spaces. This result can be seen as a measure-theoretic counterpart of the Gelfand duality between commutative unital C?-algebras and compact Hausdorff topological spaces. Every Markov-regular quantum Lévy process on a multiplier C *-bialgebra is shown to be equivalent to one governed by a quantum stochastic differential equation, and the generating functionals of norm-continuous convolution semigroups on a multiplier C *-bialgebra are then completely characterised. These results are achieved by extending the theory of quantum Lévy processes on a compact quantum group, and more generally quantum stochastic convolution cocycles on a C *-bialgebra, to locally compact quantum groups and multiplier C *-bialgebras. Strict extension results obtained by Kustermans, together with automatic strictness properties developed here, are exploited to obtain existence and uniqueness for coalgebraic quantum stochastic differential equations in this setting. Then, working in the universal enveloping von Neumann bialgebra, we characterise the stochastic generators of Markov-regular, *-homomorphic (respectively completely positive and contractive), quantum stochastic convolution cocycles.  相似文献

We give a pedagogical survey of those aspects of the abstract representation theory of quantum groups which are related to the Tannaka–Krein reconstruction problem. We show that every concrete semisimple tensor *-category with conjugates is equivalent to the category of finite-dimensional nondegenerate *-representations of a discrete algebraic quantum group. Working in the self-dual framework of algebraic quantum groups, we then relate this to earlier results of S. L. Woronowicz and S. Yamagami. We establish the relation between braidings and R-matrices in this context. Our approach emphasizes the role of the natural transformations of the embedding functor. Thanks to the semisimplicity of our categories and the emphasis on representations rather than corepresentations, our proof is more direct and conceptual than previous reconstructions. As a special case, we reprove the classical Tannaka–Krein result for compact groups. It is only here that analytic aspects enter, otherwise we proceed in a purely algebraic way. In particular, the existence of a Haar functional is reduced to a well-known general result concerning discrete multiplier Hopf *-algebras.  相似文献

Convolution semigroups of states on a quantum group form the natural noncommutative analogue of convolution semigroups of probability measures on a locally compact group. Here we initiate a theory of weakly continuous convolution semigroups of functionals on a C*-bialgebra, the noncommutative counterpart of a locally compact semigroup. On locally compact quantum groups we obtain a bijective correspondence between such convolution semigroups and a class of C 0-semigroups of maps which we characterise. On C*-bialgebras of discrete type we show that all weakly continuous convolution semigroups of states are automatically norm-continuous. As an application we deduce a known characterisation of continuous conditionally positive-definite Hermitian functions on a compact group.  相似文献

A Hopf algebra is a pair (A, Δ) whereAis an associative algebra with identity andΔa homomorphism formAtoAAsatisfying certain conditions. If we drop the assumption thatAhas an identity and if we allowΔto have values in the so-called multiplier algebraM(AA), we get a natural extension of the notion of a Hopf algebra. We call this a multiplier Hopf algebra. The motivating example is the algebra of complex functions with finite support on a group with the comultiplication defined as dual to the product in the group. Also for these multiplier Hopf algebras, there is a natural notion of left and right invariance for linear functionals (called integrals in Hopf algebra theory). We show that, if such invariant functionals exist, they are unique (up to a scalar) and faithful. For a regular multiplier Hopf algebra (A, Δ) (i.e., with invertible antipode) with invariant functionals, we construct, in a canonical way, the dual (Â, Δ). It is again a regular multiplier Hopf algebra with invariant functionals. It is also shown that the dual of (Â, Δ) is canonically isomorphic with the original multiplier Hopf algebra (A, Δ). It is possible to generalize many aspects of abstract harmonic analysis here. One can define the Fourier transform; one can prove Plancherel's formula. Because any finite-dimensional Hopf algebra is a regular multiplier Hopf algebra and has invariant functionals, our duality theorem applies to all finite-dimensional Hopf algebras. Then it coincides with the usual duality for such Hopf algebras. But our category of multiplier Hopf algebras also includes, in a certain way, the discrete (quantum) groups and the compact (quantum) groups. Our duality includes the duality between discrete quantum groups and compact quantum groups. In particular, it includes the duality between compact abelian groups and discrete abelian groups. One of the nice features of our theory is that we have an extension of this duality to the non-abelian case, but within one category. This is shown in the last section of our paper where we introduce the algebras of compact type and the algebras of discrete type. We prove that also these are dual to each other. We treat an example that is sufficiently general to illustrate most of the different features of our theory. It is also possible to construct the quantum double of Drinfel'd within this category. This provides a still wider class of examples. So, we obtain many more than just the compact and discrete quantum within this setting.  相似文献

Given a closed quantum subgroup of a locally compact quantum group, we study induction of unitary corepresentations of the quantum subgroup to the ambient quantum group. More generally, we study induction given a coaction of the quantum subgroup on a C*-algebra. We prove imprimitivity theorems that unify the existing theorems for actions and coactions of groups. This means that we define quantum homogeneous spaces as C*-algebras and that we prove Morita equivalence of crossed products and homogeneous spaces. We essentially use von Neumann algebraic techniques to prove these Morita equivalences between C*-algebras.  相似文献

Each (Hausdorff) lmc C*-algebra is *-semisimple. The *-semisimplicity of two suitable lmc*-algebras is passed on to their completed -tensor product iff is faithful. A sort of strong converse is also valid. In the commutative case, *-semisimplicity implies semisimplicity, whereas the converse occurs for suitable lmc*-algebras.  相似文献

In this paper we study C*-algebras generated by a commuting family of isometric operators. Such algebras naturally generalize the Toeplitz algebra. We investigate *-automorphisms and ideals of C*-algebras generated by semigroups.  相似文献

In this paper, we construct representatives for all equivalence classes of the unital essential extension algebras of Cuntz algebra by the C*-algebras of compact operators on a separable infinite-dimensional Hilbert space. We also compute their K-groups and semigroups and classify these extension algebras up to isomorphism by their semigroups.  相似文献

We study some properties of a reduced semigroup C*-algebra of a semigroup S. For the semigroup C*-algebra generated by the deformation of the algebra of continuous functions on a compact abelian group we obtain a structure of a compact quantum semigroup. We also consider morphisms of constructed compact quantum semigroups.  相似文献

We show that all rapid-decay locally compact groups are unimodular and that the set of rapid-decay functions on a locally compact rapidly decaying group forms a dense and spectral invariant Fréchet *-subalgebra of the reduced group C *-algebra. In general, the set of rapid-decay functions on a locally compact strongly rapid-decay group with values in a commutative C *-algebra forms a dense and spectral invariant Fréchet *-subalgebra of the twisted crossed product C *-algebra. The spectral invariance property implies that the K-theories of both algebras are naturally isomorphic under inclusion. This project is supported in part by the National Science Foundation Grant #DMS 92-04005.  相似文献

The aim of the present (mostly expository) paper is to show the relationship of a generalization of Kazhdan’s property (T) for C*-algebras introduced in our recent paper to that of B. Bekka. It is shown that our definition coincides with Bekka’s definition for group C*-algebras of locally compact groups, whereas, in general, these definitions are distinct. Criteria for a C*-algebra to possess our property (T) are given. A number of examples of C*-algebras with and without property (T) are considered. Relations to K-theory are studied. The notion of a quantum family of maps has been introduced in the framework of C*-algebras. As in the classical case, one may consider a quantum family of maps preserving additional structures (e.g. quantum family of maps preserving a state). In this paper, we define a quantum family of homomorphisms of locally compact quantum groups. Roughly speaking, we show that such a family is classical. The purely algebraic counterpart of the discussed notion, i.e. a quantum family of homomorphisms of Hopf algebras, is introduced and the algebraic counterpart of the aforementioned result is proved. Moreover, we show that a quantum family of homomorphisms of Hopf algebras is consistent with the counits and coinverses of the given Hopf algebras. We compare our concept with weak coactions introduced by Andruskiewitsch and we apply it to the analysis of adjoint coaction.  相似文献

For compact Lie groups, the Chern characters K*(G) Q H* DR(G;Q) have been already constructed. In this paper, we construct and study the corresponding noncommutative Chern characters. They are homomorphisms chC*: K*(C*(G)) from quantum K-groups into entire current periodic cyclic homology groups of group C*-algebras. We also obtain the corresponding algebraic version chalg: K*(C*(G)) HP*(C*(G)), which can be identified with the classical Chern character K* (C(T)) HP* (C(T)), where T is the maximal torus of G.  相似文献

A pseudogroup is a complete infinitely distributive inverse monoid. Such inverse monoids bear the same relationship to classical pseudogroups of transformations as frames do to topological spaces. The goal of this paper is to develop the theory of pseudogroups motivated by applications to group theory, CC-algebras and aperiodic tilings. Our starting point is an adjunction between a category of pseudogroups and a category of étale groupoids from which we are able to set up a duality between spatial pseudogroups and sober étale groupoids. As a corollary to this duality, we deduce a non-commutative version of Stone duality involving what we call boolean inverse semigroups and boolean étale groupoids, as well as a generalization of this duality to distributive inverse semigroups. Non-commutative Stone duality has important applications in the theory of CC-algebras: it is the basis for the construction of Cuntz and Cuntz–Krieger algebras and in the case of the Cuntz algebras it can also be used to construct the Thompson groups. We then define coverages on inverse semigroups and the resulting presentations of pseudogroups. As applications, we show that Paterson’s universal groupoid is an example of a booleanization, and reconcile Exel’s recent work on the theory of tight maps with the work of the second author.  相似文献

A strict 2-group is a 2-category with one object in which all morphisms and all 2-morphisms have inverses. 2-Groups have been studied in the context of homotopy theory, higher gauge theory and Topological Quantum Field Theory (TQFT). In the present article, we develop the notions of trialgebra and cotrialgebra, generalizations of Hopf algebras with two multiplications and one comultiplication or vice versa, and the notion of Hopf categories, generalizations of monoidal categories with an additional functorial comultiplication. We show that each strict 2-group has a ‘group algebra’ which is a cocommutative trialgebra, and that each strict finite 2-group has a ‘function algebra’ which is a commutative cotrialgebra. Each such commutative cotrialgebra gives rise to a symmetric Hopf category of corepresentations. In the semisimple case, this Hopf category is a 2-vector space according to Kapranov and Voevodsky. We also show that strict compact topological 2-groups are characterized by their C*-cotrialgebras of ‘complex-valued functions’, generalizing the Gel'fand representation, and that commutative cotrialgebras are characterized by their symmetric Hopf categories of corepresentations, generalizing Tannaka-Kre?ˇn reconstruction. Technically, all these results are obtained using ideas from functorial semantics, by studying models of the essentially algebraic theory of categories in various base categories of familiar algebraic structures and the functors that describe the relationships between them.  相似文献
