Efficient grating-tuned mid-infrared Cr2+:CdSe laser   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1

Room-temperature, all-solid-state, broadly tunable laser operation of Cr(2+) -doped CdSe has been demonstrated. Pumping with a Q -switched Tm, Ho:YLF laser running at a 1-kHz repetition rate achieved broadband output of 500 mW at 2.6mum with 48% absorbed power slope efficiency. With reduced efficiency, as much as 815 mW of power was obtained. With a diffraction grating, the Cr(2+): CdSe laser was tuned from 2.3 to 2.9mum with 10-nm bandwidth (FWHM) and output power up to 350 mW.  相似文献

The transfer of continuous-relief diffractive structures from resist into diamond by use of direct-write electron-beam lithography followed by dry etching in an inductively coupled plasma is demonstrated. The gases used for the diamond etching are O(2) and Ar. The chemical-vapor-deposited diamond substrate is of optical quality. Our results show that the transfer process generates fairly smooth etched structures. Blazed gratings with periods of 45mum and Fresnel lenses have been manufactured. The blazed gratings have been optically evaluated with a femtosecond laser operating at 400 nm. The diffraction efficiency was 68% in the first order, with a theoretical value of 100%. We intend to investigate the transfer process further and then to fabricate diffractive and refractive elements for use with Nd:YAG high-power lasers.  相似文献

We have demonstrated 1.15 W of Gaussianlike (M(2) = 2) cw output at 2.94 mum from a diode laser end-pumped monolithic laser crystal composed of Er-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) bonded to undoped YAG. The laser was pumped with two polarization-coupled 2.5-W flared laser diodes that provided a 45-mum pump waist with a low N.A. (<0.04) . Output at 2.94 mum was generated with a 34% slope efficiency and a greater-than-unity quantum efficiency.  相似文献

We demonstrate an innovative method for fabrication of high-spatial-frequency grating structures. This technique makes use of the near-field diffraction patterns from computer-generated phase holograms for lithographic fabrication of grating structures with periods that are one half that of the phase hologram mask. Linear, rectilinear, and circular gratings were fabricated with this technique. Experimental results from gratings with periods to 0.5 mum and feature sizes to ~0.2 mum are presented.  相似文献

We have investigated the spectral responsivity of porous silicon Schottky barrier photodetectors in the wavelength range 0.4-1.7 mum . The photodetectors show strong photoresponsivity in both the visible and the infrared bands, especially at 1.55 mum . The photocurrent can reach 1.8 mA at a reverse bias of 6 V under illumination by a 1.55-mum , 10-mW laser diode. The corresponding quantum efficiency is 14.4%.  相似文献

Broadband monolithic acousto-optic tunable filters that combine a piezoelectric transducer array and an acousto-optic interaction medium in a single crystal have been investigated. A linearly chirped acoustic superlattice with an optical tuning range of lambda = 1.3-1.6 mum was formed by domain inversion in LiNbO(3) . X-propagating longitudinal acoustic waves are excited in a crossed-field scheme by a rf E(y) field applied to the superlattice and couple collinearly propagating e- and o-polarized optical modes. At mu = 1.319 mum and mu = 1.55 mum the spectral bandwidths (FWHM) were 1.54 and 2.3 nm, respectively. A relative conversion efficiency of 43%/W and a maximum conversion efficiency of 51% were measured at 1.319 mum.  相似文献

We report what is believed to be the first observation of lasing of an optically pumped thin CdS film formed by laser ablation on glass. Laser action is observed at room temperature, and the emission peak is at 501 nm. X-ray diffraction shows that the polycrystalline films are of wurtzite structure and have (002) preferred orientation. Fabry-Perot laser modes are spaced 16 nm apart, indicating a cavity length of 2.9mum . The cavity is formed by consistently self-formed microcavities within the hexagonal lattice.  相似文献

Mid-infrared radiation near 2.8 mum was generated by difference-frequency generation in an 80-mm-long periodically poled Ti:LiNbO(3) channel waveguide by pump radiation near 1.55 mum (tunable external-cavity laser) and a signal radiation of 3.391 mum (HeNe laser). We obtained a normalized conversion efficiency of 105% W(-1) , which is to our knowledge the highest value ever reported.  相似文献

We describe a high-repetition-rate femtosecond optical parametric oscillator (OPO) that was broadly tunable in the mid infrared. The all-solid-state-pumped OPO was based on quasi-phase matching in periodically poled lithium niobate. The idler was tunable from approximately 1.7 mum to beyond 5.4 mum, with maximum average power levels greater than 200 mW and more than 20 mW of average power at 5.4 mum. We used interferometric autocorrelation to characterize the mid-infrared idler pulses, which typically had durations of 125 fs. This OPO had a pumping threshold as low as 65 mW of average pump power, a maximum conversion efficiency of >35% into the near-infrared signal, a slope efficiency for the signal of approximately 60%, and a maximum pump depletion of more than 85%.  相似文献

High-power passively Q-switched microchip lasers produce 157-muJ pulses of 1-ns duration in a single-frequency, diffraction-limited output beam. The unfocused 1.064-mum output of these devices has been used to drive periodically poled lithium niobate optical parametric amplifiers at wavelengths between 1.4 and 4.3 mum . With a peak conversion efficiency of nearly 100%, these devices generate 100-kW, subnanosecond pulses in the mid IR, with a beam quality that is better than two times diffraction limited.  相似文献

We report traveling-wave optical parametric generation in short (2-mm) ZnGeP(2) samples with reduced anomalous absorption, using femtosecond pump pulses near 2 mum . The signal and the idler waves generated could be tuned from 2.5 to 10 mum , and they extend the tunability of the beta-barium borate optical parametric generator used as a pump source to the mid-infrared. At a single-pass internal conversion efficiency of 2.5% we estimate pulse durations of 75 fs (signal near 3 mum) and 200 fs (idler near 6 mum).  相似文献

We report the phase coherent splitting of Bose-Einstein condensates by means of a phase grating produced near the surface of a microelectronic chip. A lattice potential with a period of 4 mum is generated by the superposition of static and oscillating magnetic fields. Precise control of the diffraction is achieved by controlling the currents in the integrated conductors. The interference of overlapping diffraction orders is observed after 8 ms of propagation in a harmonic trap and subsequent ballistic expansion of the atomic ensemble. By analyzing the interference pattern we show a reproducible phase relation between the diffraction orders with an uncertainty limited by the resolution of the diffraction grating.  相似文献

Two-dimensional scanning of a 0.6328 mum guided-light beam has been realized using noncolinear acousto-optic (AO) coplanar Bragg diffraction together with colinear AO guided-mode to substrate radiation-mode conversion in a Z-cut Xpropagation LiNbO3 proton-exchanged (PE) waveguide. The two surface acoustic (SAW) waves utilized are at the center frequencies of 500 and 200 MHz, propagating in the Y and X axes, respectively. Two-dimensional scanning of approximately 720 resolvable light beam spots, namely, 18 40 (horizontal vertical) scanning, has been demonstrated using a light beam of 1.0 mm aperture. The total number of resolvable beam spots can be greatly increased from 720 by simply utilizing SAW transducers of larger bandwidth and a light beam of greater aperture. It should also be possible to significantly increase the diffraction efficiency from 3 % by optimizing the parameters of the PE waveguide and the SAWs.  相似文献

A CdSe optical parametric oscillator (OPO) pumped by a 2.79-mum , Cr, Er:YSGG laser yielded a 59% signal-plus-idler slope efficiency (eta), a total idler output of 1.2-2.4mJ between 8.5 and 12.3 mum , and an idler beam that was 2.2-2.5 times the diffraction limit. A ZnGeP(2) OPO operated with a lower threshold, eta = 29% , and a forward idler output of 0.7-2.4 mJ from 6.9 to 9.9 microm . The signal and idler bandwidths were typically 4 cm(-1) for each OPO.  相似文献

A ZnGeP>(2) (ZGP) optical parametric oscillator (OPO) with wide mid-IR tunability has been demonstrated. The singly resonant angle-tuned ZGP OPO was pumped by 100-ns erbium laser pulses at lambda =2.93mum and yielded output that was continuously tunable from 3.8 to 12.4 mum (type I phase matching) and from 4 to 10 mum (type II phase matching). An OPO pump threshold was less than 1 mJ in the whole 4-12 mum range of the output, and the quantum conversion efficiency reached 35%. An OPO linewidth was typically a few wave numbers; however, with a single intracavity etalon (uncoated Si plate) in a type II OPO it was narrowed to <0.5cm(-1). We demonstrate the sensitive detection of N(2)O gas with the narrow-linewidth OPO.  相似文献

We have demonstrated photorefractive InGaAs/GaAs multiple-quantum-well devices in the quantum confined Stark geometry. A four-wave-mixing diffraction efficiency up to 0.3% is obtained at a wavelength of 949 nm. Proton implantation strongly reduces the maximum diffraction efficiency although it saturates the diffraction efficiency at smaller grating period comparing to as-grown device. We have also observed higher order diffractions. It is found that the space-charge field changes its pattern temporally from a sinusoidal pattern to a rectangular one with decreasing its modulation depth. Based on a photonic-crystal slab structure, a 60 degrees photonic-crystal waveguide bend is successfully fabricated. Its bending efficiency within the photonic bandgap is measured, and near 100% efficiency is observed at certain frequencies near the valence band edge. The bending radius is ~1mum at a wavelength of lambda~1.55mum . The measured eta spectrum also agrees well with a finite-difference time-domain simulation.  相似文献

We have achieved 150 mW of cw output at 4.3mum, using difference frequency mixing in a singly resonant optical parametric oscillator (OPO). We pumped the OPO cavity, which contains periodically poled LiNbO(3) (PPLN), with a 14-W 1.06-mum Nd:YAG laser to generate a signal at 1.7 mum and an idler at 2.8 mum. Mixing of the two waves at the same crystal temperature and grating spacing yielded emission in the mid IR. This technique avoids the mid-IR absorption-high-threshold problem, which has limited the cw performance of PPLN OPO's at wavelengths beyond 4 mum. Provided that tunability is not required, this method is a simple alternative to multiple-crystal configurations.  相似文献

We present a method of controlling the shape of the domain-inverted structure in an off-cut MgO:LiNbO(3) crystal by utilizing a two-dimensional high-voltage application. With this technique a periodically domain-inverted structure with a period of 3.2mum and a thickness of 2.0mum was fabricated over a 10-mm interaction length. This structure has made possible sufficient overlaps between propagation modes and domain inversion in the waveguide. Using this structure, we demonstrated cw blue second-harmonic generation of 17.3 mW of power at a wavelength of 426 nm with single-pass 55-mW cw AlGaAs laser diode input, which corresponded to 31% power-conversion efficiency.  相似文献
