Homopolymers of tbutyl acrylate (PtBuA) and a monosubstituted acrylamide (PAM) having an amino acid moiety in the side chain, N‐acryloyl‐(L )‐phenylalanine methyl ester 1 , have been synthesized by Reversible Addition‐Fragmentation Chain Transfer (RAFT) polymerization. Diblock copolymers of these homopolymers were also synthesized by chain extending PtBuA with monomer 1 and after modification, using simple acid deprotection chemistries of the acrylate block to afford a poly (acrylic acid) block, an optically active amphiphilic diblock copolymer was isolated. The optically active amphiphilic diblock copolymers, which contain chiral amino acid moieties within the hydrophobic segment, were then self‐assembled to afford spherical micelles which were subsequently crosslinked throughout the shell layer to afford robust chiral nanoparticles. The hydrodynamic diameters (Dh) of the block copolymer micelles and nanoparticles were measured by dynamic light scattering (DLS) and the dimensions of the nanoparticles were determined using tapping‐mode atomic force microscopy (AFM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Water‐soluble crosslinked hollow nanoparticles were prepared using pH‐responsive anionic polymer micelles as templates. The template micelles were formed from pH‐responsive diblock copolymers (PAMPS‐PAaH) composed of the poly(sodium 2‐(acrylamido)‐2‐methylpropanesulfonate) and poly(6‐(acrylamido)hexanoic acid) blocks in an aqueous acidic solution. The PAMPS and PAaH blocks form a hydrophilic anionic shell and hydrophobic core of the core‐shell polymer micelle, respectively. A cationic diblock copolymer (PEG‐P(APTAC/CEA)) with the poly(ethylene glycol) block and random copolymer block composed of poly((3‐acrylamidopropyl)trimethylammonium chloride) containing a small amount of the 2‐(cinnamoyl)ethylacrylate photo‐crosslinkable unit can be adsorbed to the anionic shell of the template micelle due to electrostatic interaction, which form a core‐shell‐corona three‐layered micelle. The shell of the core‐shell‐corona micelle is formed from a polyion complex with anionic PAMPS and cationic P(APTAC/CEA) chains. The P(APTAC/CEA) chains in the shell of the core‐shell‐corona micelle can be photo‐crosslinked with UV irradiation. The template micelle can be dissociated using NaOH, because the PAaH blocks are ionized. Furthermore, electrostatic interactions between PAMPS and PAPTAC in the shell are screened by adding excess NaCl in water. The template micelles can be completely removed by dialysis against water containing NaOH and NaCl to prepare the crosslinked hollow nanoparticles. Transmission electron microscopy observations confirmed the hollow structure. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2012  相似文献

Double hydrophilic diblock copolymer, poly(N,N‐dimethylacrylamide)‐b‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide‐co‐3‐azidopropylacrylamide) (PDMA‐b‐P(NIPAM‐co‐AzPAM), containing azide moieties in one of the blocks was synthesized via consecutive reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer polymerization. The obtained diblock copolymer molecularly dissolves in aqueous solution at room temperature, and can further supramolecularly self‐assemble into core‐shell nanoparticles consisting of thermoresponsive P(NIPAM‐co‐AzPAM) cores and water‐soluble PDMA coronas above the lower critical solution temperature of P(NIPAM‐co‐AzPAM) block. As the micelle cores contain reactive azide residues, core crosslinking can be facilely achieved upon addition of difunctional propargyl ether via click chemistry. In an alternate approach in which the PDMA‐b‐P(NIPAM‐co‐AzPAM) diblock copolymer was dissolved in a common organic solvent (DMF), the core‐crosslinked (CCL) micelles can be fabricated via “click” crosslinking upon addition of propargyl ether and subsequent dialysis against water. CCL micelles prepared by the latter approach typically possess larger sizes and broader size distributions, compared with that obtained by the former one. In both cases, the obtained (CCL) micelles possess thermoresponsive cores, and the swelling/shrinking of which can be finely tuned with temperature, rendering them as excellent candidates as intelligent drug nanocarriers. Because of the high efficiency and quite mild conditions of click reactions, we expect that this strategy can be generalized for the structural fixation of other self‐assembled nanostructures. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. AB block copolymers composed of hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and hydrophobic poly(amino acid) with a carboxyl group at the end of PEG were synthesized with α‐carboxylic sodium‐ω‐amino‐PEG as a macroinitiator for the ring‐opening polymerization of N‐carboxy anhydride. Characterizations by 1H NMR, IR, and gel permeation chromatography were carried out to confirm that the diblock copolymers were formed. In aqueous media this copolymer formed self‐associated polymer micelles that have a carboxyl group on the surface. The carboxyl groups located at the outer shell of the polymeric micelle were expected to combine with ligands to target specific cell populations. The diameter of the polymer micelles was in the range of 30–80 nm. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 3527–3536, 2004  相似文献

We report the synthesis and characterization of well‐defined homo‐ and diblock copolymers containing poly(furfuryl glycidyl ether) (PFGE) via living anionic ring‐opening polymerization using different initiators. The obtained materials were characterized by SEC, MALDI‐TOF MS, and 1H NMR spectroscopy and molar masses of up to 9400 g/mol were obtained for PFGE homopolymers. If the amphiphilic diblock copolymer PEG‐block‐PFGE was dissolved in water, micelles with a PFGE core and a PEG corona were formed. Hereby, the hydrophobic PFGE core domains were used for the incorporation of a suitable bismaleimide and heating to 60 °C induced the crosslinking of the micellar core via Diels‐Alder chemistry. This process was further shown to be reversible. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2012  相似文献

A novel amphiphilic poly(ethylene glycol)‐block‐poly(γ‐cholesterol‐L ‐glutamate) (mPEG–PCHLG) diblock copolymer has been synthesized. The mPEG–PCHLG copolymer has good biocompatibility and low toxicity. The mPEG–PCHLG copolymers could aggregate into nanoparticles with PCHLG blocks as the hydrophobic core and PEG blocks as the hydrophilic shell through emulsion solvent evaporation method. The copolymers were characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, mass spectrum, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and gel permeation chromatography. The particle sizes, size distributions, and zeta potentials of nanoparticles can also be determined by dynamic light scattering and transmission electron microscopy. This work provides a new and facile approach to prepare amphiphilic block copolymer nanoparticles with controllable performances. This novel copolymer may have potential applications in drug delivery and bioimaging applications.© 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2012  相似文献

New micelle‐like organic supports for single site catalysts based on the self‐assembly of polystyrene‐b‐poly(4‐vinylbenzoic acid) block copolymers have been designed. These block copolymers were synthesized by sequential atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of styrene and methyl 4‐vinylbenzoate, followed by hydrolysis. As evidenced by dynamic light scattering, self‐assembly in toluene that is a selective solvent of polystyrene, induced the formation of micelle‐like nanoparticles composed of a poly(4‐vinylbenzoic acid) core and a polystyrene corona. Further addition of trimethylaluminium (TMA) afforded in situ MAO‐like species by diffusion of TMA into the core of the micelles and its subsequent reaction with the benzoic acid groups. Such reactive micelles then served as nanoreactors, MAO‐like species being efficient activators of 2,6‐bis[1‐{(2,6‐diisopropylphenyl)imino}ethyl]pyridinyl iron toward ethylene polymerization. These new micelle‐like organic supports enabled the production of polyethylene beads with a spherical morphology and a high bulk density through homogeneous‐like catalysis. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This study reports the synthesis of poly(ethylene glycol)methyl ether‐block‐poly(glycidyl methacrylate) (MPEG‐b‐PGMA) diblock, and poly(ethylene glycol)methyl ether‐block‐poly(glycidyl methacrylate)‐block‐poly(methyl methacrylate) (MPEG‐b‐PGMA‐b‐PMMA) triblock copolymers via atom transfer radical polymerization and their self‐assembly behaviors in aqueous media by using acetone as cosolvent. These block copolymers formed near monodisperse core–shell micelles having cross‐linkable cores. Two types of cross‐linked micelles, namely spherical MPEG‐b‐PGMA core cross‐linked (CCL) micelles and MPEG‐b‐PGMA‐b‐PMMA interlayer cross‐linked (ILCL) micelles, were also successfully prepared from these block copolymers by using various bifunctional cross‐linkers such as hexamethylenediamine (HMDA), ethylenediamine (EDA), and 2‐aminoethanethiol (AET). Cross‐linking was successfully carried out via ring‐opening reactions of epoxy residues of hydrophobic‐cores with primary amine or thiol groups of bifunctional cross‐linkers. Finally, these cross‐linked micelles were successfully used as nanoreactors in the synthesis of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) in aqueous media. Both CCL and ILCL micelles were found to be good stabilizers for AuNPs in aqueous media. Both CCL‐ and ILCL‐stabilized AuNP dispersions were stable for a long time without any size changes and flocculation at room temperature. These cross‐linked stabilized AuNPs exhibited good catalytic activities in the reduction of p‐nitrophenol. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. For the first time, the polyelectrolyte complex (PEC) formation tool was used for preparation of core‐shell nanoparticles form the natural polyampholyte N‐carboxyethylchitosan (CECh) and weak polycationic (protonated) polyoxyethylene‐b‐poly[2‐(dimethyl‐amino)ethyl methacrylate] (POE‐b‐PDMAEMA) diblock copolymers. The performed dynamic light scattering analyses revealed that nanoparticles with a PEC core and a POE shell could be formed at mixing ratio between the oppositely charged groups equal to 1/1 depending on CECh molar mass, polymerization degree of PDMAEMA block and ionic strength. The results were confirmed by the performed AFM and cryo‐TEM analyses. When high molar mass CECh was used, core‐shell nanoparticles were obtained with the diblock copolymer of the shortest PDMAEMA block at ionic strength (I) of 0.01. At ionic strength value close to the physiological one (I = 0.1) secondary aggregation occurred. Spherical nanoparticles at I = 0.1 were obtained upon lowering the CECh molar mass. Depending on the polymer partners and medium parameters the size of the obtained particles varied from 60 to 600 nm. The X‐ray photoelectron spectra evidenced the hydrophilic POE‐block shell—coacervate CECh/PDMAEMA‐block core structure. The nanoparticles are stable in a rather narrow pH range around 7.0, thus revealing the high pH‐sensitivity of the obtained core‐shell particles. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Double‐responsive core‐shell‐corona complex micelles for applications in drug release were formed from self‐assembly of two diblock copolymers PtBA‐b‐ PNIPAM and PtBA‐b‐P4VP. The two diblock copolymers coaggregated into core‐shell complex micelles in acidic water with the hydrophobic PtBA blocks as the common core and soluble PNIPAM/P4VP blocks as the mixed shell. Increasing temperature or pH value, the micelles converted into core‐shell‐corona micelles because of the collapse of PNIPAM or P4VP blocks as the inner shell and soluble P4VP or PNIPAM chains stretching outside as the outer corona. The anti‐inflammation drug naproxen (NAP) was loaded as the model drug in micelles in acidic water and released because of the ionization of NAP in alkaline solutions. Compared with pure core‐shell micelles, release of NAP from core‐shell‐corona complex micelles avoided the burst diffusion and the release rate is more easily controlled by tuning the composition of the mixtures or by adjusting the pH of the medium. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new, efficient method for synthesizing stable nanoparticles with poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) functionalities on the core surface, in which the micellization and crosslinking reactions occur in one pot, has been developed. First, amphiphilic PEO‐b‐PS copolymers were synthesized by reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) radical polymerization of styrene using (PEO)‐based trithiocarbonate as a macro‐RAFT agent. The low molecular weight PEO‐b‐PS copolymer was dissolved in isopropyl alcohol where the block copolymer self‐assembled as core‐shell micelles, and then the core‐shell interface crosslink was performed using divinylbenzene as a crosslinking agent and 2,2′‐azobisisobutyronitrile as an initiator. The design of the amphiphilic RAFT agent is critical for the successful preparation of core‐shell interface crosslinked micellar nanoparticles, because of RAFT functional groups interconnect PEO and polystyrene blocks. The PEO functionality of the nanoparticles surface was confirmed by 1H NMR and FTIR. The size and morphology of the nanoparticles was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and dynamic laser light scattering analysis. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Self assembly of block copolymers has gained considerable attention because of its potential use in various areas such as medical and biomedical applications, nanotechnology, and electronics. Herein, we present the synthesis and characterization of amphiphilic block‐random copolymers with a covalently incorporated pH‐sensitive dye, namely eosin. Ring opening metathesis polymerization was chosen for the preparation of well defined block copolymers and block‐random copolymers using a modified “2nd Generation Grubbs” initiator. The self assembly behavior of the block‐random copolymers in solution was studied by dynamic light scattering and small angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS). The influence of dye incorporation on the result of the self assembly process in methanol and ethanol was investigated and a subtle interplay of the nature of the selective solvent, the chain‐length of the block copolymer and the position of the dye within the polymer chain was established. Structural investigations using SAXS revealed a spherical shape and a core‐shell structure of exemplary block and block‐random copolymer micelles. UV–vis absorption and photoluminescence measurements revealed similar optical properties for polymer micelles in methanol compared to polymer solutions in THF. The pH‐sensitive behavior of the eosin dye was preserved within the micelles. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 46: 401–413, 2008  相似文献

In this work, we showed that the self‐assembly behavior of the macro‐chain transfer agent P(DMA69b‐NIPAM60)‐S? (C?S)? S? C12H25 [dodecyltrithiocarbonate (DTTC)] was very different to P(DMA68b‐NIPAM62)‐S? (C?S)? S? C4H9 [butyltrithiocarbonate (BTTC)], resulting in very different water‐based nanoreactor polymerizations. The DTTC diblock formed small aggregates below the lower critical solution temperature (LCST), which increased slightly above the LCST. This is in contrast to the BTTC diblock, in which unimers existed below the LCST and large aggregates of core–shell nanoreactors were present above the LCST. Polymerization of styrene in the DTTC diblock nanoreactors afforded fast rates of polymerization with the production of narrow molecular weight and particle size distributions. We found a direct relationship between the size and the targeted molecular weight; the greater the targeted the molecular weight the greater the particle size. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The field of polymer chemistry is currently experiencing major research efforts into development of novel techniques for synthesis of polymers with well‐controlled microstructure. Recently, a new method has been reported [McHale et al., Nat. Chem. 2012, 4, 491–497] whereby high molecular weight and low dispersity polymer can be obtained by a radical polymerization process via the use of solely physico‐chemical interactions. This work was based on the combination of H‐bonding templated polymerization confined within nanoreactors of self‐assembled block copolymers. Herein, this system is thoroughly investigated to fully elucidate the underlying mechanism. Modification of physico‐chemical parameters, kinetic parameters as well as observations of size exclusion chromatography (SEC) results and colloidal behavior in various solvents provide revised insights into the mechanism. Through detailed NMR and SEC investigations, it is demonstrated that the SEC secondary peak originally believed to be the high molecular weight “daughter” polymer actually corresponds to nanoparticles containing the daughter polymer. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The amphiphilic poly(AM‐co‐SA)‐ITXH macrophotoinitiator was synthesized by precipitation photopolymerization under UV irradiation with isopropylthioxanthone (ITX) as free radical photoinitiator. A novel method has been developed to prepare amphiphilic core‐shell polymer nanospheres via photopolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) in aqueous media, with amphiphilic copolymer macrophotoinitiator poly(AM‐co‐SA)‐ITXH. During polymerization, the amphiphilic macroradicals underwent in situ self‐assembly to form polymeric micelles, which promoted the emulsion polymerization of the monomer. Thus, amphiphilic core‐shell nanospheres ranging from 70 to 140 nm in diameter were produced in the absence of surfactant. The conversion of the monomer, number average molecular weights (Mn), and particle size were found to be highly dependent on the macrophotoinitiator and monomer concentration. The macrophotoinitiator and amphiphilic particles were characterized by FTIR, UV‐vis, 1H NMR, TEM, DSC, and contact angle measurements. The results showed the particles had well‐defined amphiphilic core‐shell structure. This new method is scientifically and technologically significant because it provides a commercially viable route to a wide variety of novel amphiphilic core‐shell nanospheres. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Reported here is self‐assembly behavior in selective solvent of diblock copolymers with relatively long corona‐forming block compared to core‐forming block. Three diblock copolymers, poly(ethylene glycol) monomethyl ether‐b‐poly(methacryloyl‐L ‐leucine methyl ester), also denoted as MPEG‐b‐PMALM copolymer, were prepared by fixing MPEG block with an average number of repeating units of 115, whereas varying PMALM block with an average number of repeating unit of 44, 23, 9, respectively. Multiple morphologies, such as sphere, cylinder, vesicle, and their coexisted structures from self‐assembly of these diblock copolymers in aqueous media by changing block nonselective solvent and initial polymer concentration used in preparation, were demonstrated directly via TEM observation. These results herein might, therefore, demonstrate as an example that a wide range of morphologies can be accessed not only from “crew‐cut micelles” but also from “star‐micelles” by controlling over preparation strategies. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Amphiphilic core–shell nanostructures containing 19F stable isotopic labels located regioselectively within the core domain were prepared by a combination of atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), supramolecular assembly, and condensation‐based crosslinking. Homopolymers and diblock copolymers containing 4‐fluorostyrene and methyl acrylate were prepared by ATRP, hydrolyzed, assembled into micelles, and converted into shell‐crosslinked nanoparticles (SCKs) by covalent stabilization of the acrylic acid residues in the shell. The ATRP‐based polymerizations, producing the homopolymers and diblock copolymers, were initiated by (1‐bromoethyl)benzene in the presence of CuBr metal and employed N,N,N,N,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine as the coordinating ligand for controlled polymerizations at 75–90 °C for 1–3 h. Number‐average molecular weights ranged from 2000 to 60,000 Da, and molecular weight distributions, generally less than 1.1 and 1.2, were achieved for the homopolymers and diblock copolymers, respectively. Methyl acrylate conversions as high as 70% were possible, without observable chain–chain coupling reactions or molecular weight distribution broadening, when bromoalkyl‐terminated poly(4‐fluorostyrene) was used as the macroinitiator. Poly(4‐fluorostyrene), incorporated as the second segment in the diblock copolymer synthesis, was initiated from a bromoalkyl‐terminated poly(methyl acrylate) macroinitiator. After hydrolysis of the poly(methyl acrylate) block segments, micelles were formed from the resulting amphiphilic block copolymers in aqueous solutions and were then stabilized by covalent intramicellar crosslinking throughout the poly(acrylic acid) shells to yield SCKs. The SCK nanostructures on solid substrates were visualized by atomic force microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Dynamic light scattering was used to probe the effects of crosslinking on the resulting hydrodynamic diameters of nanoparticles in aqueous and buffered solutions. The presence of fluorine atoms in the diblock copolymers and resulting SCK nanostructures allowed for characterization by 19F NMR in addition to 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and IR spectroscopy. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Copolymerizations of substituted acetylenes have been intensively studied in solution polymerization for constructing chirally helical polymers, while emulsion copolymerizations of the kind of monomers have been only scarcely reported. In the present study, chiral substituted acetylene monomer containing cholic acid group underwent emulsion copolymerizations with an achiral acetylenic monomer in the presence of rhodium catalyst, providing optically active helical copolymer nanoparticles. Synergistic effects were found in the resulting helical copolymers, enabling one certain copolymer to show the maximum CD signal intensity. Moreover, the helicity of the helical copolymers in nanoparticle state was opposite to that in solution state. This is the first demonstration that synergistic effects and helicity inversion simultaneously occurred in helical copolymers prepared by emulsion copolymerization process. To deepen the understanding of the unique phenomena, corresponding solution copolymerization and emulsification process were also investigated. Different from “Sergeant and Soldiers rule” approach, the present study provides a new strategy for preparing chirally helical polymer particles by making full use of achiral monomers. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We describe herein the synthesis and self‐assembly characteristics of a doubly responsive AB diblock copolymer comprised of N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) and 4‐vinylbenzoic acid (VBZ). The AB diblock copolymer was prepared via reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) radical polymerization in DMF employing a trithiocarbonate‐based RAFT agent. PolyNIPAM was employed as the macroRAFT agent. The NIPAM homopolymerization was shown to possess all the characteristics of a controlled process, and the blocking with VBZ was judged, by size exclusion chromatography, to be essentially quantitative. The NIPAM‐VBZ block copolymer was subsequently demonstrated to be able to form normal and inverse micelles in the same aqueous solution by taking advantage of the stimuli responsive characteristics of both building blocks. Specifically, and as judged by NMR spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering, raising the temperature to 40 °C (above the lower critical solution temperature of the NIPAM block), while at pH 12 results in supramolecular self‐assembly to yield nanosized species that are composed of a hydrophobic NIPAM core stabilized by a hydrophilic VBZ corona. Conversely, lowering the solution pH to 2.0 at ambient temperature results in the formation of aggregates in which the VBZ block is now hydrophobic and in the core, stabilized by the hydrophilic NIPAM block. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new, simple, and cost‐effective approach toward the development of well‐defined optically active diblock copolymers based on methacrylate monomers is described for the first time. Starting from the low‐cost optically active (S)‐(?)‐2‐methyl‐1‐butanol, a new optically active methacrylic monomer, namely, (S)‐(+)‐2‐methyl‐1‐butyl methacrylate [(S)‐(+)‐MBuMA], was synthesized. Reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer polymerization was then used for preparing well‐defined poly[(S)‐(+)‐MBuMA] homopolymers and water‐soluble diblock copolymers based on [(S)‐(+)‐MBuMA] and the hydrophilic and ionizable monomer 2‐(dimethyl amino)ethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA). The respective homopolymers and diblock copolymers were characterized in terms of their molecular weights, polydispersity indices, and compositions by size exclusion chromatography and 1H NMR spectroscopy. Polarimetry measurements were used to determine the specific optical rotations of these systems. The structural and compositional characteristics of micellar nanostructures possessing an optically active core generated by p((S)‐(+)‐MBuMA)‐b‐p(DMAEMA) chains characterized by predetermined molecular characteristics may be easily tuned to match biological constructs. Consequently, the aggregation behavior of the p[(S)‐(+)‐MBuMA]‐b‐p[DMAEMA] diblock copolymers was investigated in aqueous media by means of dynamic light scattering and atomic force microscopy, which revealed the formation of micelles in neutral and acidified aqueous solutions. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
