This paper develops the basic theory of quotients of uniform spaces via sufficiently nice group actions. We generalize and unify two fundamental constructions: quotients of topological groups via closed normal subgroups and quotients of metric spaces via actions by isometries. Basic results about inverse limits of topological groups are extended to inverse limits of group actions on uniform spaces, and notions of prodiscrete action and generalized covering map are introduced.  相似文献

We prove a preservation theorem for the class of Valdivia compact spaces, which involves inverse sequences of retractions of a certain kind. Consequently, a compact space of weight?1 is Valdivia compact iff it is the limit of an inverse sequence of metric compacta whose bonding maps are retractions. As a corollary, we show that the class of Valdivia compacta of weight?1 is preserved both under retractions and under open 0-dimensional images. Finally, we characterize the class of all Valdivia compacta in the language of category theory, which implies that this class is preserved under all continuous weight preserving functors.  相似文献

In Bani?, ?repnjak, Merhar and Milutinovi? (2010) [2] the authors proved that if a sequence of graphs of surjective upper semi-continuous set-valued functions fn:XX2 converges to the graph of a continuous single-valued function f:XX, then the sequence of corresponding inverse limits obtained from fn converges to the inverse limit obtained from f. In this paper a more general result is presented in which surjectivity of fn is not required. The result is also generalized to the case of inverse sequences with non-constant sequences of bonding maps. Finally, these new theorems are applied to inverse limits with tent maps. Among other applications, it is shown that the inverse limits appearing in the Ingram conjecture (with a point added) form an arc.  相似文献

We investigate the limit mappings between inverse limits of continua with upper semi-continuous bonding functions. Results are obtained when the coordinate mappings are surjective, one-to-one or homeomorphisms. We construct examples showing the hypothesis of the theorems are essential. Further, we construct an example showing that, unlike for the inverse limits with single valued maps, properties of being monotone, confluent or weakly confluent mappings between factor spaces are not preserved in the inverse limit map.  相似文献

Abstract

The relationship between Wallman's construction of a compact T1-space [9] and Flachsmeyer's inverse limit spaces of inverse systems of decomposition spaces [2] is investigated. There are connections between Wallman spaces and inverse limits, which were initiated by Alexandroff in 1928. Some old theorems using inverse limits have shorter proofs now. On the other hand we obtain a new method to treat Wallman compactifications in terms of inverse limit spaces. A suitable notion in this context is the “prime-filter space”, having an interesting maximality property. This space seems to be proper to examine prime ideals in C(X).  相似文献

We show that a compact space is I-favorable if, and only if it can be represented as the limit of a σ-complete inverse system of compact metrizable spaces with skeletal bonding maps. We also show that any completely regular I-favorable space can be embedded as a dense subset of the limit of a σ-complete inverse system of separable metrizable spaces with skeletal bonding maps.  相似文献

The concept of p-convergence in fuzzy metric spaces, in George and Veeramani's sense, has been recently given by D. Mihet in [D. Mihet, On fuzzy contractive mappings in fuzzy metric spaces, Fuzzy Sets and Systems 158 (2007) 915-921]. In this note we study some aspects relative to this concept and characterize those fuzzy metric spaces, that we call principal, in which the family of p-convergent sequences agrees with the family of convergent sequences. Also a non-completable fuzzy metric space, which is not principal, is given.  相似文献

It is proved that Knaster's type continua and solenoids can be considered as inverse limits of arcs and of circles with confluent bonding mappings. Several other classes of bonding mappings, which are relative to confluent ones, also are discussed.  相似文献

In this paper we address a problem posed by W. Lewis at the Second International Conference on Continuum Theory held at BUAP, Puebla, Mexico. Lewis asked for a characterization of local-planarity in inverse limit spaces of finite graphs in terms of the dynamics of the bonding maps. We give some sufficiency conditions and show that points at which our sufficiency conditions do not guarantee the space is locally planar, the problem requires a solution to the harder problem of characterizing planarity in inverse limits of graphs. We also examine the case of an inverse limit generated by a single map, f, on a single graph, G. Assuming that f has finitely many turning points and is non-contracting, we characterize local planarity in terms of the dynamics of f.  相似文献

The main result, in Theorem 3, is that in the category Unif of Hausdorff uniform spaces and uniformly continuous maps, the coreflective hulls of the following classes are cartesian-closed: all metric spaces having no infinite uniform partition, all connected metric spaces, all bounded metric spaces, and all injective metric spaces.Furthermore, Theorems 1 and 4 imply that if C is any coreflective, cartesian-closed subcategory of Unif in which enough function space structures are finer than the uniformity of uniform convergence (as in the above examples), then either (1) C is a subclass of the locally fine spaces, or (2) C contains all injective metric spaces and C is a subclass of the coreflective hull of all uniform spaces having no infinite uniform partition.  相似文献

We prove that a Hausdorff space X is very I-favorable if and only if X is the almost limit space of a σ-complete inverse system consisting of (not necessarily Hausdorff) second countable spaces and surjective d-open bonding maps. It is also shown that the class of Tychonoff very I-favorable spaces with respect to the co-zero sets coincides with the d-openly generated spaces.  相似文献

Straight spaces are spaces for which a continuous map defined on the space which is uniformly continuous on each set of a finite closed cover is then uniformly continuous on the whole space. Previously, straight spaces have been studied in the setting of metric spaces. In this paper, we present a study of straight spaces in the more general setting of nearness spaces. In a subcategory of nearness spaces somewhat more general than uniform spaces, we relate straightness to uniform local connectedness. We investigate category theoretic situations involving straight spaces. We prove that straightness is preserved by final sinks, in particular by sums and by quotients, and also by completions.  相似文献

We study compact spaces which are obtained from metric compacta by iterating the operation of inverse limit of continuous sequences of retractions. This class, denoted by R, has been introduced in [M. Burke, W. Kubi?, S. Todor?evi?, Kadec norms on spaces of continuous functions, http://arxiv.org/abs/math.FA/0312013]. Allowing continuous images in the definition of class R, one obtains a strictly larger class, which we denote by RC. We show that every space in class RC is either Corson compact or else contains a copy of the ordinal segment ω1+1. This improves a result of Kalenda from [O. Kalenda, Embedding of the ordinal segment [0,ω1] into continuous images of Valdivia compacta, Comment. Math. Univ. Carolin. 40 (4) (1999) 777-783], where the same was proved for the class of continuous images of Valdivia compacta. We prove that spaces in class R do not contain cutting P-points (see the definition below), which provides a tool for finding spaces in RC?R. Finally, we study linearly ordered spaces in class RC. We prove that scattered linearly ordered compacta belong to RC and we characterize those ones which belong to R. We show that there are only 5 types (up to order isomorphism) of connected linearly ordered spaces in class R and all of them are Valdivia compact. Finally, we find a universal pre-image for the class of all linearly ordered Valdivia compacta.  相似文献

We characterize metric spaces X whose hyperspaces X2 (or Bd(X)) of non-empty closed (bounded) subsets, endowed with the Hausdorff metric, are absolute [neighborhood] retracts.  相似文献

A Bing space is a compact Hausdorff space whose every component is a hereditarily indecomposable continuum. We investigate spaces which are quotients of a Bing space by means of a map which is injective on components. We show that the class of such spaces does not include every compact space, but does properly include the class of compact metric spaces.  相似文献

In this paper we study homotopical properties of a special neighborhood system, which is denoted by {Uε}?>0, for the canonical embedding of a compact metric space in its upper semifinite hyperspace to get results in the shape theory for compacta. We also point out that there are spaces with the shape of finite discrete spaces and having not the homotopy type of any T1-space  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce the concepts of the set-valued dynamical systems of asymptotic contractions of Meir–Keeler type and set-valued dynamical systems of strict contractions in uniform spaces and we present a method which is useful for establishing conditions guaranteeing the existence and uniqueness of endpoints of these contractions and the convergence to these endpoints of all generalized sequences of iterations of these contractions. The result, concerning the investigations of problems of the set-valued asymptotic fixed point theory, include some well-known results of Meir and Keeler, Kirk and Suzuki concerning the asymptotic fixed point theory of single-valued maps in metric spaces. The result, concerning set-valued strict contractions (in which the contractive coefficient is not constant), is different from the result of Yuan concerning the existence of endpoints of Tarafdar–Vyborny generalized contractions (in which the contractive coefficient is constant) in bounded metric spaces and provides some examples of Tarafdar–Yuan topological contractions in compact uniform spaces. Definitions and results presented here are new for set-valued dynamical systems in uniform, locally convex and metric spaces and even for single-valued maps. Examples show a fundamental difference between our results and the well-known ones.  相似文献

The paper discusses interactions between order and topology on a given set which do not presuppose any separation conditions for either of the two structures, but which lead to the existing notions established by Nachbin in more special situations. We pursue this discussion at the much more general level of lax algebras, so that our categories do not concern just ordered topological spaces, but also sets with two interacting orders, approach spaces with an additional metric, etc.  相似文献
