Absolute photoionization and dissociative photoionization cross‐sections of eleven n‐alkanes (n‐pentane, n‐hexane, n‐heptane, n‐nonane, n‐decane, n‐undecane, n‐dodecane, n‐tridecane, n‐tetradecane, n‐pentadecane and n‐hexadecane), three cyclo‐alkanes (cyclopentane, methylcyclohexane and trans‐decahydronaphthalene) and iso‐octane were measured for photon energies from the ionization thresholds to 11.5 eV. The measurements were performed with the binary‐liquid‐mixture method utilizing the photoionization cross‐sections of benzene as a calibration standard. The ionization energies of n‐alkanes and cyclo‐alkanes were also calculated at the B3P86/6‐31 + +G(d,p) level and by the G3B3 method. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Absolute photoionization cross sections of the molecules 2‐ethylfuran, 2‐acetylfuran and furfural, including partial ionization cross sections for the dissociative ionized fragments, are measured for the first time. These measurements are important because they allow fuel quantification via photoionization mass spectrometry and the development of quantitative kinetic modeling for the complex combustion of potential fuels. The experiments are carried out using synchrotron photoionization mass spectrometry with an orthogonal time‐of‐flight spectrometer used for mass analysis at the Advanced Light Source of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. The CBS‐QB3 calculations of adiabatic ionization energies and appearance energies agree well with the experimental results. Several bond dissociation energies are also derived and presented. Absolute photoionization cross sections for 2 potential propargylic fuels (propargylamine and dipropargyl ether) along with the partial ionization cross sections for their dissociative fragments are measured and presented for the first time via synchrotron photoionization mass spectrometry. The experimental setup consists of a multiplexed orthogonal time‐of‐flight mass spectrometer and is located at the Advanced Light Source facility of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, California. Data for a third propargylic compound (propargyl alcohol) were taken; however, because of its low signal, due to its weakly bound cation, only the dissociative ionization fragment from the H‐loss channel is observed and presented. Suggested pathways leading to formation of dissociative photoionization fragments along with CBS‐QB3 calculated adiabatic ionization energies and appearance energies for the dissociative fragments are also presented.  相似文献

Analytical expressions for the square of the spherical average of Fourier transforms of Gaussian type orbitals (GTO 's) are given. A direct application of these expressions to the calculation of molecular photoionization cross sections is considered under the generalized sudden (GSA ) and dipole (DA ) Approximations. Numerical calculations were done on the CO molecule using bound orbitals obtained by ab initio LCAO –MO calculations with Gaussian basis sets. The results are in good agreement with experiments. Those obtained by the GSA method however, suggest a limitation in its use: the GSA method is only applicable when comparing photoionization intensities of neighboring ionization energy orbitals. Applications to other molecules are immediate.  相似文献

The effects of anisotropy of the photoionization cross‐section and elastic scattering of photoelectrons in solids are investigated for angle‐resolved XPS spectra (ARXPS) recorded from α–Al2O3 substrate in parallel data acquisition mode. It is shown that for quantitative analysis of ARXPS spectra recorded in parallel data acquisition mode it is essential to account for the anisotropies of the photoionization cross‐sections of the detected photoelectrons for the concerned elements in the solid due to variation of the angle between the incident x‐rays and the detected photoelectrons. Neglecting the effect of elastic scattering only leads to minor errors in quantitative analysis of the ARXPS spectra. By adopting experimentally determined values for the relative sensitivity factors of the concerned photoelectrons in the solid as a function of the detection angle, cumbersome corrections for the effects of anisotropy of the photoionization cross‐section and elastic scattering can be avoided. L X-ray fluorescence cross sections, and intensity ratios were measured for elements in the 70£Z£92 atomic range at the excitation energy 59.5 keV using a Si(Li) detector. Furthermore, L X-ray fluorescence cross sections and intensity ratios were calculated for elements in the same range. The average L shell fluorescence yields were derived using experimental L X-ray fluorescence cross sections and theoretical photoionization cross sections. The obtained results were compared with other experimental and theoretical values. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Analysis of free metal clusters studied with photoionization mass spectrometry or photoelectron spectroscopy requires theoretical predictions of the photoionization cross sections to gain a deeper physical understanding. Calculated energy-dependent photoionization cross sections of Na2–8 and K2–8 clusters are presented in this study. The ground state electronic structure of the clusters are calculated using the Local Spin Density method (LSD) which is also the starting point for the cross section calculation with the continuum multiple scattering method. A basic analysis of the photoionization process is given within the independent electron picture. Strong resonances are predicted in the UV cross sections (5–10 eV) of K3–8 but not for Na3–8, interpreted as shape resonances, i.e. quasibound states in which electrons are trapped by a potential barrier. Unfortunately experimental data are only known close to the ionization threshold and a comparison between our values and experimental data in a broad energy range is not possible.  相似文献

The Cu2+ ions in the title compounds, namely bis[1,3‐bis(pentafluorophenyl)propane‐1,3‐dionato‐κ2O,O′]copper(II) p‐xylene n‐solvate, [Cu(C15HF10O2)2nC8H10, with n = 1, (I), n = 2, (II), and n = 4, (III), are coordinated by two 1,3‐bis(pentafluorophenyl)propane‐1,3‐dionate ligands. The coordination complexes of (I) and (II) have crystallographic inversion symmetry at the Cu atom and the p‐xylene molecule in (I) also lies across an inversion centre. The p‐xylene molecules in (I) and (II) interact with the pentafluorophenyl groups of the complex via arene–perfluoroarene interactions. In the crystal of (III), two of the p‐xylene molecules interact with the pentafluorophenyl groups via arene–perfluoroarene interactions. The other two p‐xylene molecules are located on the CuO4 coordination plane, forming a uniform cavity produced by metal...π interactions.  相似文献

Two series of bis(styryl)benzene derivatives (BSBD), namely the single‐BSBD and the double‐BSBD, were investigated. The equilibrium geometries and electronic structures were obtained by using the density functional theory B3LYP and 6‐31G basis set. In succession, the one‐ and two‐photon absorption properties of all the molecules were studied theoretically with a ZINDO‐SOS (sum‐over‐states) method in detail. It can be seen that the double‐BSBDs have larger two‐photon absorption (TPA) cross sections in the visible‐IR range than the corresponding single‐BSBDs, demonstrating that increasing the molecular dimension is a very effective method to enhance the values of the TPA cross sections. On the other hand, it can be also noticed that the values of the TPA cross sections are correlative with the ability of donating (accepting) electrons of the terminal substituent groups R [N(CH3)2, CH3, H and CF3] in these molecules. That is, the intramolecular charge transfer is also a factor for the enhancement of the TPA efficiency. To sum up, the idea of increasing the molecular dimension to enhance the TPA cross section value is a helpful direction to explore better TPA materials for practical applications. And the double‐BSBD molecules are promising TPA materials for the further investigation from the standpoint of the high transparency and the larger TPA cross sections.  相似文献

It is demonstrated that the partial photoionization cross sections of outer subshells of atomic Eu in the giant resonance region are determined by the action of the 4d-electron excitations. The cross section for photoionization of the semifilled 4f 7 subshell is also entirely dominated by the interaction with 4d 10 electrons.  相似文献

Calculated cross sections for collisional defocusing of a beam of symmetric‐top molecules in a hexapole field are compared with new and recent experimental values. The calculations show that collision processes involving changes in K have much smaller cross sections than those for changing M, and cross sections for changing J are smaller still. The beam defocusing produced by collisions with a background gas that is not the same species as the molecules in the beam occurs mainly as a consequence of ΔM transitions induced by a time‐varying field which comprises the dipole‐induced dipole potential and the anisotropic part of the London potential between the symmetric top and its collision partner. Because the dipole–dipole potential depends on 1/r3, its time variation is much slower, and so it is much less effective than the potentials which vary as 1/r6 at inducing transitions by this mechanism during long‐range (∼1 nm) collisions at moderate relative velocity (∼500 m/s). ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization of the titanium atoms has been investigated in the 293 321 nm wavelength. We couple a laser-ablated metal target into a molecular beam to produce free atoms. Ions produced from photoionization of the neutral atoms are monitored by a home-built time-of-flight mass spectrometer. Photoionization cross sections of the excited states of Ti I were deduced from the dependence of the ion signal intensity on the laser intensity for photon energies close to the ionization threshold. The values obtained range from 0.2 Mb to 6.0 Mb. No significant isotope-dependence was found from measurements of the photoionization cross sections of ^46Ti, ^47Ti, and ^48Ti.  相似文献

Efficient violet–blue‐emitting molecules are especially useful for applications in full‐color displays, solid‐state lighting, as well as in two‐photon absorption (TPA) excited frequency‐upconverted violet–blue lasing. However, the reported violet–blue‐emitting molecules generally possess small TPA cross sections. In this work, new 1,8‐diazapyrenes derivatives 3 with blue two‐photon‐excited fluorescence emission were concisely synthesized by the coupling reaction of readily available 1,4‐naphthoquinone O,O‐diacetyl dioxime ( 1 ) with internal alkynes 2 under the [{RhCl2Cp*}2]–Cu(OAc)2 (Cp*=pentamethylcyclopentadienyl ligand) bimetallic catalytic system. Elongation of the π‐conjugated length of 1,8‐diazapyrenes 3 led to the increase of TPA cross sections without the expense of a redshift of the emission wavelength, probably due to the rigid planar structure of chromophores. It is especially noteworthy that 2,3,6,7‐tetra(4‐bromophenyl)‐1,8‐diazapyrene ( 3c ) has a larger TPA cross section than those of other molecules reported so far. These experimental results are explained in terms of the effects of extension of the π‐conjugated system, intramolecular charge transfer, and reduced detuning energy.  相似文献

We present a theoretical study of charge transfer in H++C60 and He2++C60 collisions using an extension of the molecular time‐dependent method of ion–atom collisions. Energy‐correlation diagrams have been evaluated for the corresponding (C60–H)+ and (C60–He)2+ quasi‐molecules. Single and double charge‐transfer cross sections in C60+He2+ collisions are reported for the first time. The results show that double charge‐transfer cross sections are only one order of magnitude smaller than single charge‐transfer cross sections. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A laboratory study was carried out to investigate the chemical composition of aged aromatic secondary organic aerosol (SOA) formed from the photoxidation of p‐xylene in the presence of ammonia (NH3). The experiments were conducted by irradiating p‐xylene/CH3ONO/NH3 air mixtures without and with NO in a home‐made smog chamber. The particulate products of aged p‐ xylene SOA in the presence of NH3 were measured by UV–vis spectrophotometry, attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared (ATR‐FTIR) spectroscopy, and aerosol laser time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry (ALTOFMS) coupled with the fuzzy C‐means (FCM) clustering algorithm. The experimental results show that NH3 does not alter the gas–particle partitioning in the photoxidation of p‐xylene without NO and that 2,5‐dimethylphenol is the predominant NH3‐aged p‐xylene SOA without NO. However, NH3 has a significant promotional effect on the formation of organonitrogen compounds in the OH‐initiated oxidation of p‐xylene with NO. Organic ammonium salts such as ammonium glyoxylate and p‐methyl ammonium benzoate, which are formed from NH3 reactions with gaseous organic acids, were detected as the major particulate organonitrogen products of NH3‐aged p‐xylene SOA with NO. 1H‐Imidazole, 4‐methyl‐1H‐imidazole, and other imidazole products of the heterogeneous reactions between NH3 and dialdehydes of p‐xylene SOA were newly measured. The possible reaction mechanisms leading to these organonitrogen products are also discussed and proposed. The formation of imidazole products suggests that some ambient particles containing organonitrogen compounds may be the result of this mechanism. The results of this study may provide valuable information for discussing anthropogenic SOA aging mechanisms.  相似文献

The dissociative excitation of the even doublet levels of the cobalt atom upon the collisions of cobalt dichloride molecules with 100-eV monoenergetic electrons was experimentally studied. Dissociative excitation cross sections for transitions from these levels turned out to be greater than the corresponding cross sections of direct excitation in electron-atom collisions (except for the e 2 P 1/2 level). The total excitation cross sections (including the contribution of cascade population) were determined for ten levels.  相似文献

We demonstrate that we can use the extreme ultraviolet radiation produced by high order harmonic generation to perform photoionization experiments. With harmonics from the 11th to the 69th of a 140 fs Cr:LiSAF laser operating at 825 nm, we measure the relative photoionization cross sections of xenon, krypton, argon and neon over the range 10 to 110 eV. With narrow bandwidth harmonics produced by a tunable, 1 ps dye laser, we observe the autoionizing states between the 4p 5 ionization thresholds in krypton.  相似文献

To investigate the preferential complexing behavior of isomeric xylenes, syndiotactic polystyrene (sPS) membranes are prepared using varying compositions of m‐ and p‐xylene. Complex formation between sPS and the xylenes was studied by means of thermogravimetric and FT‐IR analyses to determine the exact amounts of solvent molecules present per styrene repeating unit. A preferential complexing ability of p‐xylene was revealed due to its favorable interaction with sPS.  相似文献

A classification of the shape resonances in the photoionization of diatomic molecules into two types is proposed: the well known molecular shape resonances which appear in the σ u channel for the photoionization of the σ g shells of light molecules like 3σ g in N2 or in O2, and the atomic-like shape resonances. To illustrate this last class of shape resonances, calculations in the frozen core static exchange approximation of thed inner shell photoionization cross sections, σ, and of the angular distribution parameters, β, are performed for both HBr and HI. In our model, the σ and β curves look roughly like that of the isoelectronic Kr and Xe rare gases, but in order to obtain quantitative agreement with experiment, an approach including interchannel interactions, i.e. similar to that used for the halogen atoms would be probably necessary.  相似文献
