The use of perlite for the removal of victoria blue from aqueous solution at different concentration, ionic strength, pH and temperature has been investigated. Adsorption process is attained to the equilibrium within 1 h. It is found that the adsorption capacity of perlite samples for the removal of victoria blue increased by increasing pH and temperature, and decreased by expansion and ionic strength. The adsorption isotherms are described by means of the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. The adsorption isotherm was measured experimentally at different conditions, and the experimental data were correlated reasonably well by the adsorption isotherm of the Langmuir, and the isotherm parameters (Q m and K) have been calculated for perlite samples as well. It is concluded that victoria blue is physically adsorbed onto the perlite. The removal efficiency (P) and dimensionless seperation factor (R) have shown that perlite can be used for removal of victoria blue from aqueous solutions, but unexpanded perlite is more effective.  相似文献

Removal of methyl violet from aqueous solution by perlite   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The use of perlite for the removal of methyl violet from aqueous solutions at different concentration, pH, and temperature has been investigated. Adsorption equilibrium is reached within 1 h. The capacity of perlite samples for the adsorption of methyl violet was found to increase with increasing pH and temperature and decrease with expansion and increasing acid-activation. The adsorption isotherms are described by means of the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. The adsorption isotherm was measured experimentally at different conditions and the experimental data were correlated reasonably well by the adsorption isotherm of Langmuir. The order of heat of adsorption corresponds to a physical reaction. It is concluded that the methyl violet is physically adsorbed onto the perlite. The removal efficiency (P) and dimensionless separation factor (R) have shown that perlite can be used for removal of methyl violet from aqueous solutions, but unexpanded perlite is more effective.  相似文献

In this study, surfactant-modified pillared montmorillonites (MMT) were prepared using cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) by the intercalation method and used as adsorbent to remove bentazon from aqueous solutions. The main compositions of MMT and CTAB/MMT were characterized by Fourier transform–infrared spectroscopy (FT–IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron micrography (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy. The removal efficiency of bentazon was studied as a function of adsorbent dosage, pH, initial bentazon concentration and ionic strength (sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, sodium sulfate and sodium chloride). The removal efficiency of bentazon by CTAB/MMT was more than that of MMT in similar conditions. By increasing adsorbent dosage and initial bentazon concentration, the removal efficiency was increased and declined, respectively. The results showed that the maximum adsorption of organo-modified montmorillonite was obtained at pH 3. The maximum adsorption capacity was estimated to be 500 mg/g at pH 3 and room temperature. The study of the adsorption kinetic model revealed that the pseudo-second order model was the best applicable one to describe the adsorption of bentazon onto CTAB/MMT. Adsorption data were analyzed by both Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherms and the results showed that it was better described by the Langmuir model. The adsorption capacities of the samples were found to increase with Na2CO3 anion saturation, while they decreased in the presence of NaHCO3, Na2SO4 and NaCl.  相似文献

In this study, the adsorption of an industrial dye Supranol Yellow 4GL onto Cetyltrimethylammonium-bentonite (CTAB-bentonite) is investigated. The organobentonite is synthesised by exchanging cetyltrimethylammonium cations (CTAB) with inorganic ions on the surface of bentonite. The adsorption of Supranol Yellow 4GL onto organobentonite is found to be maximum when the concentration of CTAB exchanged is 100% according to the cation exchange capacity of the clay (CEC). The modification of organobentonite is examined using XRD and FTIR techniques. The effect of the process parameters such as: contact time, adsorbate concentration, adsorbent dose, pH and temperature are reported. Nearly 1200 seconds of contact time are found to be sufficient for the adsorption to reach equilibrium. The pseudo second order model is used to describe the kinetic data, and the rate constant is therefore evaluated. The dye adsorption to organobentonite is characterized by monolayer isotherm and caused by adsorption with relatively strong uptake. The Langmuir and Freundlich models adsorption are applied to describe the isotherm equilibrium and to determine its constants. The Langmuir and Freundlich models agree well with the experimental data with a adsorption capacity of 0.5 g of dye per g of organobentonite. A better fixation was obtained at acidic pH. The effect of temperature on the adsorption of dye has been also studied and the thermodynamic parameters ΔH, ΔS, ΔG, were determined. Organobentonite is found to be effective for removing Supranol Yellow 4GL dye from wastewater.  相似文献

The adsorption of polyvinylimidazole (PVI) onto kaolinite from aqueous solutions has been investigated systematically as a function of parameters such as calcination temperature of kaolinite, pH, ionic strength, and temperature. According to the experimental results, the adsorption of PVI increases with pH from 8.50 to 11.50, temperature from 25 to 55 degrees C, and ionic strength from 0 to 0.1 mol L(-1). The kaolinite sample calcined at 600 degrees C has a maximum adsorption capacity. Adsorption isotherms of PVI onto kaolinite have been determined and correlated with common isotherm equations such as Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. The Langmuir isotherm model appeared to fit the isotherm data better than the Freundlich isotherm model. The physical properties of this adsorbent are consistent with the parameters obtained from the isotherm equations. Furthermore, the zeta potentials of kaolinite suspensions have been measured in aqueous solutions of different PVI concentrations and pH. From the experimental results, (i) pH strongly alters the zeta potential of kaolinite; (ii) kaolinite has an isoelectric point at about pH 2.35 in water and about pH 8.75 in 249.9 ppm PVI concentration; (iii) PVI changes the interface charge from negative to positive for kaolinite. The study of temperature effect has been quantified by calculating various thermodynamic parameters such as Gibbs free energy, enthalpy, and entropy changes. The dimensionless separation factor (RL) has shown that kaolinite can be used for adsorption of PVI from aqueous solutions.  相似文献

An experimental investigation is presented for separation of pentachlorophenol (PCP) and methyl orange (MO) from an aqueous solution by use of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as a regulator in the paper capillary permeation adsorption process (PCPA). The effects of pH, concentration of CTAB, and ionic strength on the separatability of the molecules were studied. The maximum separatability of nearly 100% PCP and MO was obtained in the optimum pH range 5–11 and 7–11, respectively. The ionic strength has an appreciable effect on separatability. The recovery of PCP and MO from paper by elution with acetone: isooctane solvent gradients was also studied. The selective separation of PCP and MO admixed in aqueous solution by a developed solvent elution technique was also reported. It was believed that PCP and MO were separated as their ion pairs with CTA cations by adsorption on the fiber surface.  相似文献

In this study, granular activated carbon (GAC) coated with cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) (GAC-CTAB) was synthesized to remove perchlorate from water via adsorption. Laboratory-scale batch experiments were performed to study the factors affecting the perchlorate adsorption by GAC-CTAB, including the CTAB content and solution pH, and explore the mechanisms behind the adsorption phenomenon. The novel GAC-CTAB material was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), zeta potential measurement and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis. The characterization tests showed that CTAB was deposited on the GAC surface, pH(pzc) of the material was between 2.0 and 3.0, and the BET specific surface area was reduced from 925 to 729 m(2)/g with the increasing CTAB content from 0 to 0.034 mmol CTAB/g GAC. The adsorption process was better described by a pseudo-second-order kinetics model and the Freundlich adsorption model. The CTAB content and solution pH significantly influenced the kinetics and chemical equilibrium of the adsorption. When the CTAB content was increased from 0.0.023 to 0.135 mmol CTAB/g GAC, the K in the Freundlich adsorption isotherm increased from 0.071 to 0.19 mmol/g. The optimal adsorption typically occurred at pH 2-3, close to the pH(pzc) of the solution. Finally, the mechanisms for the adsorption of perchlorate on GAC-CTAB were associated with surface complexation, electrostatic interaction and ion exchange.  相似文献

Ternary biopolymeric microspheres of chitosan, yeast and gelatin were prepared and characterized by FTIR spectral analysis, particle size measurements, and scanning electron micrograph techniques. The prepared microspheres were investigated for static and dynamic studies of adsorption of As+3 ions onto the microspheres surfaces at fixed pH and ionic strength of the aqueous solution. The adsorption data were applied to Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm equations and various static parameters were calculated. The dynamic nature of adsorption was quantified in terms of several kinetic constants such as rate constants for adsorption, Lagergreen rate constant, inter particle diffusion rate constant and pore diffusion coefficient. The influence of various experimental parameters such as solid to liquid ratio, pH, temperature, and chemical composition of biopolymeric microspheres were investigated on the adsorption of arsenic ion and various thermodynamic parameter were also calculated.  相似文献

Adsorption of nitrobenzene from aqueous solution by MCM-41   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Adsorption of nitrobenzene onto mesoporous molecular sieves (MCM-41) from aqueous solution has been investigated systematically using batch experiments in this study. Results indicate that nitrobenzene adsorption is initially rapid and the adsorption process reaches a steady state after 1 min. The adsorption isotherms are well described by the Langmuir and the Freundlich models, the former being found to provide the better fit with the experimental data. The effects of temperature, pH, ionic strength, humic acid, and the presence of solvent on adsorption processes are also examined. According to the experimental results, the amount of nitrobenzene adsorbed decreases with an increase of temperature from 278 to 308 K, pH from 1.0 to 11.0, and ionic strength from 0.001 to 0.1 mol/L. However, the amount of nitrobenzene adsorbed onto MCM-41 does not show notable difference in the presence of humic acid. The presence of organic solvent results in a decrease in nitrobenzene adsorption. The desorption process shows a reversibility of nitrobenzene adsorption onto MCM-41. Thermodynamic parameters such as Gibbs free energy are calculated from the experimental data at different temperatures. Based on the results, it suggests that the adsorption is primarily brought about by hydrophobic interaction between nitrobenzene and MCM-41 surface.  相似文献

Adsorption of Promethazine hydrochloride (PHCl) onto KSF Montmorillonite from aqueous solution has been investigated. Experiments were conducted at various pH values, ionic backgrounds and solution temperatures. The pseudo-second-order equation successfully predicted the adsorption among the tried kinetics models (pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order and intraparticle diffusion). Langmuir, Freundlich and DR adsorption models were used to describe equilibrium isotherms and the isotherm constants were obtained. The increase in solution temperature caused a decrease in the adsorption capacity values found from Freundlich and DR isotherm. The adsorption type can be explained by combined ion exchange and physisorption. Thermodynamic parameters of adsorption of Promethazine hydrochloride (PHCl) onto KSF were also evaluated. The surface morphologies of KSF and PHCl loaded KSF were examined using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). FTIR measurements of samples were also conducted.  相似文献

Hematite sample prepared by transformation of ferrihydrite was used to remove Cr(VI) from aqueous solution. Effects of initial concentration, contact time, pH, ionic strength, and temperature were investigated. The data were fitted to Langmuir, Freundlich, Dubinin-Kaganer-Radushkevich and Temkin models of adsorption. The results showed the best fit to the Langmuir isotherm. The increase of pH as well as that of increasing ionic strength resulted in the decrease of adsoiption of Cr(VI). Two kinetic models namely pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order were used to fit the experimental data. The thermodynamic parameters were found, and the results indicated spontaneous and exothermic nature of the process.  相似文献

Adsolubilization, solubilization of organic compounds into adsorbed surfactant aggregates, has attracted much attention in the past few years. It is being explored for a variety of new commercial applications including the formation of engineered surfaces, pharmaceutical applications, and nanotechnology. Adsolubilization is strongly influenced by the amount of adsorbed surfactant, which in turn depends upon pH, ionic strength, and surfactant type and concentration. In this study, the adsorption of a cationic surfactant, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) on precipitated silica and the adsolubilization of organic solutes (toluene and acetophenone) into the adsorbed surfactant aggregates were examined as a function of surfactant adsorption at two pH values (5 and 8). Three levels of surfactant adsorption, corresponding to equilibrium concentration low in region II, high in region II, and low in region III of the adsorption isotherm, and the adsolubilization of toluene and acetophenone were investigated both in single- and mixed-solute systems. The results showed that the adsorption of CTAB depended strongly on pH and for each pH the adsolubilization increased with increasing surface adsorption. However, the adsolubilization behaviors of the adsorbed CTAB aggregates in different adsorption regions were quite distinct, suggesting that the structural arrangement of the surfactant aggregates may play an important part in addition to the amount of adsorbed surfactant. This phenomenon was more noticeable at low surfactant adsorption than at higher surface adsorption. In mixed-solute systems, the presence of acetophenone had little effect on the toluene adsolubilization. In contrast, a synergetic effect was observed in the adsolubilization of acetophenone in the presence of toluene.  相似文献

Adsorption of polyvinylalcohol onto Fuller''s earth surfaces   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The adsorption of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) onto Fuller's earth surfaces has been studied at fixed pH (4.8) and ionic strength of the medium. The adsorption isotherm obtained resembles with LIII type of isotherm, which indicates that multilayer formation of polymer chains begins after a certain time period when the monolayer formation is complete. The study of concentration effect and kinetics of adsorption process enabled in evaluating various adsorption and kinetic parameters such as the adsorption coefficient, modified Freundlich adsorption isotherm constants, distribution coefficient and rate constants for adsorption and desorption. A plausible mechanism of adsorption process was suggested according to which the adsorption was predominantly due to the formation of hydrogen bonds between the OH groups of PVA and aluminols, silanols and carboxylate ions of the organic matter of the Fuller's earth. The proposed mechanism was further confirmed by the IR spectral analysis of native and PVA-adsorbed clay. The adsorption was appreciably affected by the pH, presence of salts, organic solvents, solid to liquid ratio and temperature of the adsorption medium. The study of temperature effect was quantified by calculating various thermodynamic parameters such as Gibb's free energy, enthalpy and entropy. The results obtained in the study helped in formulating a mechanism of interaction between PVA and Fuller's earth surfaces.  相似文献

Magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) based on cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB)-coated magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (C-MIONPs) was investigated for the separation, preconcentration and determination of Rose Bengal (RB) in aqueous solutions. The influences of different analytical parameters such as pH, temperature, ionic strength, volume of desorbent solvent, amount of adsorbent and interfering ions in the adsorption of RB on C-MIONPs were investigated. The RB adsorption on C-MIONPs follows Langmuir isotherm. The sizes of C-MIONPs were in the range of 20–80 nm. The method was capable of determining RB concentration in the range of 0.01–1.20 μg ml?1. The limit of detection (LOD) of RB based on three times the standard deviation of the blank (3Sb) was found to be 5.91 × 10–3 μg ml?1 (n = 8). The relative standard deviation (RSD) for 0.3 μg ml?1 and 0.8 μg ml?1 of RB were 4.1% and 1.1%, respectively. The proposed method was applied to the determination of RB in Brucella Antigen solution and water samples from the Karoon River.  相似文献

Using sodium silicate as precursor, rod-like mesoporous silica with hexagonal appearance was synthesized by controlling the pH value of a mixed micelles solution of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and cetyltrimethylammonium chloride (CTAC) during hydrolysis of ethyl acetate. The resulting mesoporous silica was characterized by small angle X-ray diffraction, nitrogen gas adsorption-desorption measurement and scanning electron microscopy. Results showed that the regular rod-like shapes with hexagonal appearance were obtained at a 9:1 molar ratio of CTAB to CTAC, and that the amounts and lengths of the rod-like mesoporous silica particles decreased with decreasing CTAB to CTAC molar ratio. There existed a type IV adsorption isotherm and an H1 hysteresis loop in N2 gas adsorption-desorption curves.  相似文献

The removal of tannin from aqueous media by cationic surfactant-modified bentonite clay was studied in a batch system. The surfactant used was hexadecyltrimethylammonium chloride. Adsorbent characterizations were investigated using X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, surface area analysis, and potentiometric titration. The effects of pH, contact time, initial solute concentration, adsorbent dose, ionic strength, and temperature on the adsorption of tannin onto modified clay were investigated. The adsorbent exhibited higher tannin removal efficiency (>99.0%) from an initial concentration of 10.0 micromol/L at pH 3.0. Adsorption capacity decreased from 90.1 to 51.8% with an increase in temperature from 10 to 40 degrees C at an initial concentration of 25.0 micromol/L. The adsorption process was found to follow pseudo-first-order kinetics. Film diffusion was found to be the rate-limiting step. Tannin adsorption was found to decrease with increase in ionic strength. The tannin equilibrium adsorption data were fitted to Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models, the former being found to provide the best fit of the experimental data. The maximum monolayer adsorption capacity for tannin was 69.80 micromol/g at 30 degrees C. Comparison of adsorption capacity of the modified clay with reported adsorbents in the literature was also presented. Adsorbed tannin on modified clay can be recovered by treatment with 0.1 M NaOH solution. Regeneration experiments were tried for four cycles and results indicate a capacity loss of <10.0%. From the results it can be concluded that the surfactant-modified clay could be a good adsorbent for treating tannin-contaminated waters.  相似文献

The adsorption of, the still widely used, herbicide atrazine on model soil components, such as humic acid and humic acid-silica gel mixtures, was investigated in a series of batch experiments, under different experimental conditions (ionic strength, temperature, and pH). The investigation aimed at obtaining an estimate of the contribution of each of the soil components on the adsorption of atrazine from aqueous solutions. The kinetics of atrazine adsorption on humic acid showed two steps: a fast step, of a few hours duration, and a second slow step, which continued for weeks. The kinetics of adsorption data gave a satisfactory fit to the Elovich equation. Τhe adsorption of atrazine on the test substrates was found to be reversible in all cases. The atrazine uptake data on the test substrates were fitted best with the Freundlich adsorption isotherm. The ionic strength of the atrazine aqueous solutions did affect the amount of the atrazine adsorbed on the test substrates, suggesting that electrostatic forces between atrazine molecules and soil play a significant role in the adsorption process. An increase of temperature resulted in a decrease of atrazine adsorption on humic acid at low atrazine equilibrium concentrations. However, for higher levels of equilibrium concentrations (≥3 mg/L) the amount of atrazine adsorbed onto the test substrate increased as temperature increased. The calculated isosteric enthalpies of adsorption ranged between slightly exothermic at low atrazine uptake and slightly endothermic at high atrazine uptake, all values being in the range of physisorption.  相似文献

The biosorption of rhodamine-B from aqueous solution using crosslinked alginate beads was studied by contact method at fixed pH ?3 and room temperature (28 ± 0.2°C). Both the Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm models could describe the adsorption equilibrium of the rhodamine-B onto crosslinked alginate beads. The influence of various experimental parameters such as pH, temperature, effect of concentration and time were evaluated. It was observed that the adsorption capacity of rhodamine-B onto alginate beads decreased with increase in pH and temperature above room temperature.  相似文献
